Aged well, about a 1 hour decant, lost it's fruitiness since it was stored at close to room temperature for most of it life. but still had a good mouth feel and refined finish. Probably would have scored the wine a few points higher if I had cellared it properly.
HWS Bordeaux 2009 vs 2010 (By me): Dark berries, cedar and licorice in the bouquet. On the palate dark berries like blackberries and licorice as well, some cherries, round acidity and tannin and beautiful bitterness. Youthful wine in its adolescent stage. Will evolve for the better, more elegant stage over the next 5+ years. 92+

Decanted for 2 hours. Aromas of saddle leather, iron, cherry, blackberry and currant. Flavors of blackberry, iron, currant, earth and mint. Ends with a long 25-30 second finish with iron and blackberry notes. Well structured and quite pleasing. Can age for another 20 easy.

Last of 3 bottles. Decanted and paired with grilled steaks. Black in the glass. On nose, blackberry, black currants, plum, cedar and pipe tobacco. On palate, medium+ body, medium acidity, medium+ tannins (fine grained though) with a very long finish. Flavor profile on palate consistent with nose.
Has aged beautifully. 93+

Similar notes as before. Open for 2 hours and improved with air. Classic nose with charcoal, soil and a bit of saline. Very promising but the palate lacks energy and depth IMO. Better than last time and not a disappointment overall but just doesn’t live up to the initial impression (or the hype). Something is missing. Maybe it’s getting a little better with time.
Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (J&J's): Double blind. The darkest wind of the flight but this does appear to have a little age. Aromas of plum, iron, currents and a touch of tobacco. Red berry fruit and iron dominate the palate, and there’s a nice ripeness to the fruit. Medium tannins with a lingering finish. Guessed 2009 St. Julien.
I believe this was merely double decanted off its sediment perhaps two hours before it was poured. (R&D)
Clear deep garnet; clean medium plus nose of cassis, slight balsamic, tobacco leaf and fall cracked leaves; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; medium plus alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of coffee; long finish; drink now or in 10 years; needed a 30 minute decant to come together- initially quite shy, lean and austere;

Couldn't help myself in spite of the vertical score I had from early this year. Now, this is in a very good place. Early, yes but I'm not sure this is a wine I want to let age too long. Dark cherry red, still very youthful color. Better with longer time open and decant but can be drunk pretty quickly upon opening. Aerator used for 2nd half day 2 after prolonged, Coravin decant day 1. Moderate sediment now present on the finale. A pretty classic Gloria nose and flavor profile, plenty of fruit but incredibly structured and the St. Julien terroir elements very evident. Feels very good in the mouth. Tannins pretty well integrated. Long finish. Best part was the last drops after lots of air. A great vintage for many wines and Gloria is no exception. May well improve and gain complexity now but really great now. NOTE TO SELF: HOLD THE REST OF MINE FOR A WHILE- I HAVE ONLY A few left. 93+

Two hour decant. Dark ruby with slight bricking leading to a thin watery rim. Generous nose of dark berries, herbs, coffee, and a sweet alcoholic ending note. Full-bodied, gentle tannins, medium acidity, and flavors of cassis, chocolate, and leather lead to a long finish.
Very good. Great year, of course. Give it plenty of air. Drink now through 2035.
Bordeaux 2010 Vintage Horizontal Tasting (at home with dear friends)
This tasting was a total shock for me – in the most pleasant way. How can (relatively) young Grand Cru Bordeaux taste so drinkable?! Wow!!!
The wines were decanted four hours prior, yet they were still evolving in the glass.
Château Tronquoy-Lalande, Saint-Estèphe 93 p. Nose: Dark berries, a mixture of tertiary aromas (eg. hint of lacquer), tobacco. Palate: Mid fullbodied, long, succulant, dark berries, sweet fruits, a bit leather, silky tannins. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot
Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac 95 p. Nose: Cassis (jam), layers of tertiary aromas, smokey vanilla, velvety leather. Palate: Rather fullbodies, very long, succulant, fruity, dark berries, some cherry, leather, elegant “dusty” tannins. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot
Château Gloria, Saint-Julien 93 p. Nose: Mouth watering, succulant, red berries, tertiary aromas, smoked toffee. Palate: Initially strong attack, rather fullbodied, fruity, long, prunes. (63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot)
Château Gruaud Larose, Saint-Julien 92 p. Nose: Initially (pleasant) hint of barnyard and ripe red berries, later jammed red berries and hint of cherry, tertiary aromas (eg. dry flower potpourri and hint of lacquer), pencil/cedar wood. Palate: Mid fullbodied, fruity, prunes, (dried) fruits, silky tannins, rather long. (66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot)

Rich blackberry and earthy notes, dark chocolate and fresh leather. Scorched earth. Tannic frame still very much in place with a long finish and think the intensity of the black fruit leads this to improve still over 5 years. Deep ruby in colour.

Gloria in excelsis. My best Gloria so far and a worthy representative of this fantastic vintage, easily the equal of a very good cru classé. Amazingly youthful blood-red colour with even some purple at the rim. A broad bouquet with underbrush, cedar, cassis, coffee. On the palate noble ripe cabernet fruit, a lot of ripe tannines refreshing acidity an a long final. Can be drunk with pleasure now or be kept for at least ten years.

Either this has hit a dumb phase or it just isn't aging well. Based on my notes, this is not as good as it was back in 2017. Very austere right now. Venturi and time in glass helped wake it up a bit, but it was still on the "boring" side of bordeaux. Still a good wine, but not where I expected it be at this point in its evolution.
Yes, this has been stored in a temp and humidity controlled cellar.

Decanted half hour. Enjoyed the flavors more on the first glass than the last glass. Towards the end it seemed older than it’s years. Based on some previous notes from others, the next bottle I will decant longer to see if that is what is needed.

Tasted alongside the 1982 and 2011. Decanted for several hours. Best towards the end. Still quite tannic and somewhat closed. Clearly this wine has the structure to be better down the road but was quite enjoyable. HOLD 92 for now, 95 potential.

Smooth, hints of pencil shavings. Good length. Bit more developed after 6 hours. Nice, but maybe better value elsewhere? Xmas day 2010 Brunello was better.

Really enjoyable wine that is just beginning to reach approachability. Can tell this wine is in transition with partially resolved tannins. Good amount of the racy fruits I normally would associate with St. Julien.
Interestingly, as compared to the 2015 vintage I recently tried, this 2010 vintage seems to be more primary. Drink now with a good decant or in 5-10 years.

Tasted at Oinoscent during service from a 375ml bottle.
The wine shows impenetrable dark color with no sign of evolution. In the nose the wine shows freshness, ripe black currants and cherries, licorice, smoke, plums and prunes, some heavier floral notes, graphite, cherry liqueur, bitter chocolate notes, black pepper. With time you also get hues of herbs like oregano. In the palate, the wine is even fresher, bold tannins, full body, again bitter chocolate, massive texture with the acidity carving the sides of the mouth, thick oak frame circling fresh blue and black fruit, ending with long finish. Even in a small bottle this feels years before reaching its peak.

Perfect cork. Decanted for 3 hours before drinking. The black plummy fruit, dark cherry and cassis is equaled with plenty of savoury flavours of leather, cedar, tobacco, and earth. Not shy of oak. A solid structure here with sufficient acidity and plenty of powdery tannins. Medium to full bodied with decent length. Softened over the 2-3 hours it took to drink the bottle. Last glass was the best. A good St Julien that can be enjoyed now or over the next 10 years.

Clear deep ruby/garnet; clean medium nose of cassis, balsamic, grilled meat and cigar box; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; medium plus alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter; long finish; drink now with a decant or in 5 or 10 years; shy out of the bottle but opened up after about 45 minutes; lovely subtle wine - rich on the nose and silky on the palate
Bright coloring when poured. Notes of fruit on the nose followed by more mature notes of cassis, vanilla and a touch of graphite in a medium bodied wine.

This was restrained on the nose upon opening much more than the palate. After an hour, started to really open up and was enjoyable. Still a young wine with plenty of life ahead of it.
Black fruit, graphite, cedar, vanilla, and some very early signs of tertiary notes (mushroom)
Still rich and full of ripe fruit after more than a decade. Tasted blind I would have gone for the 2009 vintage such is the generosity of fruit. That said, there is structure there and this shows little sign of maturity. Very pleasurable. 92

Medium ruby in appearance. Does not appear to have lost a lot of color at age 11+.
No surprise on the nose- classic St Julien- black fruit, cassis, vanilla and a touch of stones and pencil lead. The nose is fresh, elegant and pronounced.
Medium bodied with medium tannins still present and a good back bone of acidity. Gorgeous mouthfeel with a finish in the medium plus range.
Very well made and a delicious food wine.
Drink now, but this style will last for 20 years plus if stored properly...

This 12 years old bottle has disappointed me. Served at First Class at Varig Airlines, during its airline golden time, it is much less attractive than prior vintages. Light red, nice aromas, but not pronounced, not so round at taste and short finishing.

This can benefit from more time in the bottle or a 2+ hour decant. Flavors of rich soil, graphite, black pepper, cocoa powder, and smoke. Great with steaks and rich flavorful soft cheese. I feel it needs more time to integrate, but it is a good value.

Since I last had this wine over 3 months ago, it seemed to have improved a little (from CT high Excellent to low Outstanding), and I gave it 94 points, I only liked the more renowned 2010 Bordeaux reds a bit better than wines such as this.

**What is it:** Mentally, I think of Bordeaux as the First Growths and might-as-well-be crowd, the Lower Crus and might-as-well-be, and then everyone else. Gloria may not technically be a classified estate, but they might as well be for both price and quality reasons. This is blended from 63/26/6/5 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Petit Verdot/Cabernet Franc and clocks in at 13.5% suggesting minimal Rolland/Parker influence.
**Nose:** Black currant, tobacco, cigar humidor, ripe black cherry, herbal notes that are hard to delineate from smell alone.
**Palate:** Hello 2010 vintage! Strongly tannic up front in a well integrated way. Blueberry, black cherry, black plum, earth but not in a potting soil way (is this what people mean when they say clay?), dark chocolate, chalk, charcoal/dark coffee.
**Takeaway:** I really wanted more out of this for the price. It's by no means bad, but for $70 I was hoping it would rise above the Cru Bourgeois and be something special, but it's just a on-style and solid Bordeaux. 3/5

Interesting to taste this for a second time more than six years after the first. Both times, lots of toasted oak on the nose. Too much! Other wines tasted alongside this showed considerable oak as well, but this one showed the heaviest toast, which was a distraction. Otherwise, concentrated fruit, pepper garden, graphite, etc. Bold, quite well balanced. Still young, but not the equal of other wines in this price range on account of the oak and a certain Parkerization. The juice has the substance to evolve for another five to seven years, and hold for a few years thereafter. I do not think the char will fully integrate though. Drink by 2030 or so.

The Nearly Annual Lyon 10 Year Retro Tasting (Lyon's Den): About what you would expect, and blind this time, I gave it the exact same score as in 2013. A nice long wine with black currant, stone, pencil, oak, and tobacco notes. Day two: 93.

This wine is an enigma. I do not generally like Gloria except in really great years and even then I don’t always quite get it. I’m usually a big fan of many a 90 point Bdx because I love the classic Bdx nose and don’t mind if the finish is weak. This Gloria has that fabulous, classic 2010 nose from the start and the palate holds relatively well but the finish? What happened here? It gets kind of unpleasant. And after a couple hours of being open, the finish just dominated (and, no, I wasn’t eating dessert). I put the cork in and gave up on it. Then, the next night somewhat remarkably, it was as if I just opened the bottle and the finish actually improved a bit. I enjoyed it a bit more overall. Enigma?

I bought quite a lot of the 2010 Gloria (black fruit, good body) as my wife and I enjoyed it very much. It is virtually all on previously classified land, and it can sometimes rival its classified stablemate, Chateau Saint-Pierre. I last tasted it some months ago and gave it a 93 (the same as I gave the 2009 Gloria) at least.

Not as refined as the La Petite Eglise '10, showing more spicy, more firm, but also here the vintage gives structure and keeps everything in its place. The midtaste and the aftertaste show the potential for this wine to develop further.

Pleasantly surprised by this and would keep an eye for it again. Accompanied a Asian spicy fusion menu and it blended extremely well with all the spices backed by its softness and medium bodied roundness. Matured enough and worth drinking today.

Well, in my opinion this has come a long way in the last few years. I was pleasantly surprised to see the evolution after about 90 min of a decant. Threw off a lot of sediment not present a few years back and one could notice the softening of the tannin. It got better with more air, so plenty of life ahead. Not the most complex or layered wine - but I know Ch Gloria well, and I don’t expect that either. Glad I continue to grab a case in good years. It’s one of the best value plays in all of Bdx in my opinion.

Fairly tannic to begin with; a long decant helped a lot. Not a very complex wine, but it has a nice earthy/fruity aroma and consistent flavor. Very good concentration and length. Solid.
decanted and drank over 2 hours w/ grilled wagyu. 1995 ch gloria was the first bordeaux future i ever bought... while in grad school (i think $17/btl), and i enjoyed drinking thru a case over the years. this wine reminds me of the same uncomplicated ripe but balanced purple/black fruits, clean, no brett, style that the '95 (and others in btw) had. missing nuance and perhaps more sophisticated aromatics, but a lovely and enjoyable wine nonetheless. i think this will improve and provide drinking pleasure over the next 10+ years.
Day 1-Not rating this yet. Clearly this has made a lot of progress since I drank it a several years ago and even just a couple years ago after I bought some. I did a Coravin taste today with Venturi pour to quick aerate. At first, it was clear that this was more open than before but it shut down almost immediately and the nose was reticent and the flavor was OK but not great during pasta dinner with mushrooms and veggies but should be if it is open longer. I let a glass sit for 4 hours+ and sipped it. It gets better and better with more air. The color is pretty dark purple with slow legs with deep red rim. Aroma starts out a bit funky and manure with some distant black fruit and coffee and then is opening to a more floral and more prominent black fruit and sweet dark cherry and a bit of spice/smoke. It really evolves a lot in the glass and is different every hour. Flavor profile more evident than the nose at first and stays that way. It's not nearly as tannic as it was a couple years ago but it still has some puckering tannins and the flavor does stay with you for a long time so I do think this one is built to last. I'm going to open the bottle tomorrow and decant the rest and then I will score it formally. I'll let it breath for a long time (4-5 hours). I'm glad I have four more bottles and 2 mags of this as I do think this will be better in 5 years and likely the magnums are good for a couple decades or more. It's a very unique vintage of Gloria in my opinion but may turn out to be one of the best with time like other 2010 St. Julien wines I've tried, they need more time but are just starting to come around.
Day 2 opened and decanted and again using Venturi and then poured into glass 2 hours before dinner. Small amount of sediment stayed at the bottom with slow pour. Again the wine was super dark almost black initially and the fruit was immediately there and then very quickly the color turns to a lovely crimson but the aroma and flavor go behind a wall of something less pleasant. By 2 hours, it was perfect and with aroma and flavors I noted late last night and great with grass fed tenderloin and Lamb Chops on the grill with potato and grilled asparagus and amazing with delice de Bourgogne cheese after that. This has tremendous potential for aging. 92 for now potential 95. St julien is the most interesting appellation in Bordeaux from my point of view. 92++
Deep purple in color, med+ alcohol, and very nice elevated acidity you probably would not expect. The nose is meaty, gamey, barnyardy with a hint of brett. Garrigue, smoke and black pepper on the nose show off the new oak… It would be really easy to confuse this with Northern Rhone… The fruits are ripe but there’s also a brightness to them – red plum, black plum, and black cassis. Excellent wine at a reasonable price.
I wanted to try a Bordeaux Claret with with grilled trout. What du you think did it work? One would say to much tannins. But oh wonder very nice with the elegant fish. Tannins not at all disturbing. To be repeated!
Not a great showing. Needs at least an hour decant to open up. Fruit hidden a t first but comes out big and dark on the nose - quite nice- but a bit thin on palate. Tannins have softened but still pronounced. Might have been the bottle but drink now.

This '10 is drinking great right now with well integrated flavors. The black fruit has a nice roundness to it in palate very much in a feminine style. A touch of cedar and leather, along with black pepper, provides a smooth transition to pleasant fruit structure finish with good acidity and resolving tannins. This was a perfect choice with our left over pot roast; hard to tell where the flavors of the pot roast ended in the wine began.
Dark dense purple. Lots if blackberry wild raspberry black currant a bit cedar wood licorice and wet forest floor. Full bodied with silky textured tannins and long persistent finish.
Gloria as I don't recall experiencing. I would dare to say it's a bit Parkerized. Extra bold, super ripe fruit, almost jammy, with lots of oak and smokiness. At least, the wood tends to take a second role after 30-45 min when the notes of violets, cassis take center stage. Nice touch of graphite notes, a bit leathery. Really impressive length, good acid balance. Surprisingly, the tannins are not too harsh and already show very well. I have no idea how this will age. I'll give it 2 years until the next bottle.
Very nice StJ. Drinking very well with 90 minutes of air. Secondary notes are present, and the fruit is exuberant; clearly a great vintage for this chateau. This is at the beginning of its maturity, and I imagine it has a decade left before fading. Drink for vigorous fruit flavors or hold a few years if you want more tertiary notes.
A one-off bottle that Mila (Gloria) Huerta had in the cellar. Wish I had a case of it to enjoy five or ten years from now. Lots of developing everything, yet enjoyable to drink with a solid decant. Liquorice aromas are strong in this one on day three. Amazing how much the price has risen since its release. Get 'em young. Score based on where I believe this will be in 2025.
3 hr decant. Dark crimson with no bricking. On the nose: black fruits, green pepper, leaf tobacco. Secondary notes of black cassis, red currant, herbs. On the palate: St. Julien all the way. Sweet black cassis, soft and warm secondary flavors of red currant, leather and green pepper. Slightly metallic on the finish, but tannins very well behaved. Soft and feminine, but still retains that quintessential Left Bank character. Agree with those who say that 2010 runs toward the modern, flabby style, but this one retains its dignity.
Wow, a big wine. On the nose a little bit heady and sweet with superripe fruits (more plum than cherry or cassis) and a slight semblance of port, touching, but not crossing the border. In the mouth the wine is very viscous and intense. However, it's all kept under control by loads of structure and good freshness. Just like the 2009 Gloria this is not a particularly complex wine. Some notions of mushrooms and forest floor, but predominantly this is about rich plump fruit. Drinking nicely today but should last 2 decades. My feelings about these Bordeaux from vintage 2010 are a bit mixed. Just as they impress with their sheer size, they rarely invite me to open a second bottle.
Quite fruity. The perception of any tannin is just clobbered by punchy blackberry and cassis fruit. Good steak wine. Not sure what to expect with more age given how plush and round it is currently
Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Special wines (@ RW): Dark berries and bell pepper in the bouquet. On the palate dark and red berries, bell pepper as well, juicy acidity and tannin. Good length. Beautiful wine which can last another 5 – 8+ years.
Another bordeaux that typified the region well. Evidently cleaner winemaking than the Ferriere but retains the classic left bank Bordeaux characteristics. Simple and short finish but great for the price, drink now.

Second Sunday Group: 2010 Bordeaux (aka Bal Masqué) (R&D's): Double blind. Black currant, mocha, cassis and campfire-like smoky aromas. On the light side of full-bodied, but with chewy tannin. Dark fruit and spice tones on the palate. Nice compexity- adds aromas of herbs, mineral and incense as it opens in the glass- but the bouquet is well ahead of the palate at this point. 91+ pts.
Perfect drinking window. Rich, graphite, licorice, oak vanilla, brambly berry flavors, sweet at first, and more savory with air. Well integrated tannins.

Definitely the fruit is not as resolved as I would hope. I am of the view this will get better with a bit more time, hence a score that reflects potential. There is a risk that the fruit has passed its best, in which case drink it now. I will take a risk.
A medium-bodied wine with some tannin yet to be resolved. The fruit is fading and best to drink withing the next five years. Nothing remarkable here. A pleasurable bottle of wine.

Wine was totally closed off. Double decanted and let sit a couple of hours and nothing. That said, the structure shows what this wine is going to be once it develops. Tannins are rounding beautifully. I’ll rate at a later date.

Toast oak and dark fruits on the nose. Cassis, dark chocolate, blueberry, cedar and vanilla on the palate. Hint of fennel too after being open a while. Tobacco tannins with just a hint of bitterness (not distracting). Good length and body. Nice wine.
Rich, black creme de cassis fruit with some quality toasted oak and wet tobacco. A creamy front end balanced nicely with firm and bitter tannin at the finish. A little batailley like. A little bitter at the end but there is real quality here. Now trading at silly prices, it isn’t that hard to see why. This is a very good effort. 92

Stuck at home, a good excuse to check in on this again. This is one of my go-to affordable Bdx. PnP, drank over an hour
Full dark ruby color, no real separation. Nose showing dark berries, coffee, spice and smoke. Palate of black cherry, cassis, licorice. Chalk(?), minerals, chocolate through the mid palate. Tannins starting to soften, smooth texture. Medium weight and finish.
Turned out as hoped, good value Bdx. In a good spot now with another 5-7 drinking window ahead.

Served with roast chicken dinner. Was really delicious. Old fashioned food but very modern wine. Matured and ideal with the gravy and roast. All the tannins had softened. All the tobacco and wood shavings showed through. The 28% merlot helps soften the flavours (66% cabernet sauvignon). Ripe fruit and altogether lovely. Decanted 2hrs before serving and was careful with the sediment which was more than usual.

Lots of black fruit on the nose--on the tongue, though, not as much. Just the slightest fruitiness on the tip of the tongue. Some pencil lead suggestions. A bit of salinity. Very mild tannins and acid. Not a particularly big wine—much more elegant than the California wines that I normally drink. A fairly short finish. A good wine, but not breathtaking.
Very good for the price. Just take note it is in its early drinking window, so allow it to decant for AT LEAST 4 hours. I followed the evolution at 2,3 and 4 hours and the extender time it really makes a big difference at this stage of the wine.Classic left bank aromas and palate

Checking in on this, a couple of years since the last bottle. Slow oxed, drank over 2 nights
Prior notes: "Bright red color, youthful. Nose shows blue fruits (?), coffee, spice and smoke notes. Palate of ripe black cherry, cola(?), cassis, licorice, herbs. Mid palate showing some sweetness, tannins are rustic and fined..."
Still a rich and fruit forward wine (by Bdx standards), tannins a bit more fined than last tasting. Picked up a bit more licorice and smoke with this bottle. Still great, has a way to go. Will let remaining bottles settle for a while. Should have a good arc ahead of it

4 hr decant. Dark brown color. Nose of black cherry, chocolate, new leather, wood charcoal. Concentrated, juicy, and strong palate, loaded with black and blue fruits. Mouth feel starts soft with open fruit, then firm, rippling tannins, followed by medium acidity. Never bright, this is a dark, almost brooding wine. Tertiary notes of tobacco, warm sand, spice box, hickory smoke.
Really enjoyable, drank slowly over two nights. An excellent vintage that can be drunk now or held onto for a decade or two. Compared to its 2011 sibling, which is closed and tannic, the 2010 is a gem.
Better than the previous bottle. This had a beautiful firm backbone along with some racy acidity. Very left-bank, with powerful tanins but yielding now after a few years. Nice black and blue fruit. Wish I had more - I think i got this at about $40 which was a nice price for what it is.

Good, slight undertone of brett if you are sensitive to that, if not, it added a nice dimension to the cherry driven, hints of cola, cassis, nice depth and concentration for the price range. There is a softness and elegance to this wine even this early in it's life cycle.

Tight at first, and mostly tannic. Decanted for three hours and it starts to open up a bit. Dark red fruits hiding behind the tannic background. I'm not sure this has the balance to come around but I have little choice other than to wait and find out if those tannins settle before the fruit fades...

This wine is ready but needs about 2 hours of air. Threw lots of chocolatey funk as a young Bordeaux should. Warm espresso and tilled soil, followed by dense, lush black fruit. Though it feels a bit toasty, its roasty good! Drink alone, its ready.

I like chateau Gloria a lot. Ive drank more than 60 bottles of the 2009 and the 2010 is simply flat compared. It lacks the depth of the 2009 in every way. The 2010 is an ok wine but it lacks the power the 2009 has.

It's always nice to find these underrated Bordeauxs from a great vintage, which sells for an ok price. A bit too much oak at this stage, a bit too much fruit, probably because 2010 was an exceptional year, but a nice wine. Quite tannic, yet also quite enjoyable already this young. Fullbodied. Deep, ripe, fruit after 3 days of slowox, and upgrade to 93. Probably needs another 5-10 years to reach its prime.

Pnp. A solid modern style bordeaux. Nose has big dark currant, oak, purple fruit and coffee. Palate is full bodied and juicy. The finish is slightly rough and alcoholic. Overall, it has good qpr. I like the nose more than the palate.

Decanted for an hour or so. Medium to full bodied flavors of dark cassis and currants, tobacco, tar, vanilla and toast. Oak is slightly protruding. Approachable but could use a few more years of ageing. Good quality here.

A bit tight on PnP, but it didn't take more than 10-15 minutes in the glass to start showing some good stuff. As the evening went on, the wine became less full bodied and more elegant. Fruit became better. Notes of blackberry, cassis, and tobacco. Decant only for sediment.
Bottom line: PnP for richer food, wait about 45 minutes for lighter fare (duck, coq a vin, etc.).

Quite delicious; has a tobacco and smokey characteristic that I often find with St. Julien. There is a nice core of sweetness and then freshness on the finish. What's not to like? I got this at about $39 though and prices have increased.
Fades a bit on the 2nd day; harder and less lively.

Poured through vinturi and decanted for two hours. Drank with a simple, unsophisticated dinner. The positives -- I love a French wine who doesn't want to punch you in the face the way Americans think wine should be. Beautiful color, good body, short finish, medium texture. The negatives -- little taste. Instead, all you get is dull juice with little flavor. I thought long and hard what is it that I taste in this wine. The only word that comes to mind is rubber, but I think that's unfair to the wine.
First bottle from a stash bought a few years ago, thought it would be a good time to check in on this. Ch. Gloria has been one of my go-to reasonably priced St. Julien over the years...Splash decanted, through a vinituri and drank over 90 minutes.
Bright red color, youthful. Nose shows blue fruits (?), coffee, spice and smoke notes. Palate of ripe black cherry, cola(?), cassis, licorice, herbs. Mid palate showing some sweetness, tannins are rustic and fined.
This is in a great spot right now...surprised to the upside. Great now but has a decent drinking arc ahead of it, possible 7-10 years to continue to evolve ...shows Bdx doesn't need to break the bank!

Very fresh and very classical palate. Incredibly finely grained tannins. This is surprisingly accessible for something so young, from a vintage so austere and from a wine with such a great reputation. Maybe not the time to make such judgements but I can't see the great potential others seem to. This is wonderful to drink now and has the balance and freshness of a fully mature and classical claret - totally ready to drink. But that in itself is a concern and it seems to lack the sort of density and power one would find in a top tier £30-£40 left bank at this stage in its life, that assures you it can stand up to another 15 years. I have another 5 so maybe I will be proved wrong. 92
Nothing knockout. A good bordeaux, well-made, but perhaps closed right now. Lots of sediment, and a lot of other wine was being drunk so perhaps something to come back and judge in isolation in the next 6-12 months.

This was very dark and rich, lots of dark fruit, leather, tobacco, and mineral. Again, I was surprised at the amount of sediment. Very good, but this is one estate where I like the 2009 better.

Dark, earthy. A touch of tobacco and dust. Balanced. Brooding, but still somewhat complex, or showing promise to be. Nice enough over three nights, but with little development during that time.

Stored in Naples wine fridge for 18 months. Slight bleeding on cork when opened. Wine required decanting given the significant amount of sediment in the bottle. Earthy nose. Blackberry, coffee and tobacco flavors on the palate. Consumed over 3 hours with a cheese platter. Enjoyable. I was just expecting a little more from this wine. Three bottles remain in NJ cellar, I will revisit in several years.

Heavy, thick, good flavor, tannic finish, not sure about WA review or this particular bottle, expected lots more, appeared to be at end of its life, probably would not drink again, friends agreed with my observations, drank with a 2010 chat Arnaud, which was much better, and spinach basil ravioli,
Drunk at Bouchard, in Newport. Very soft and smooth. Nose of leather, some earth, some cedar. Soft, gentle, earthy, leathery, some soft roasted peach, some white pepper, and some overripe black cherry and tobacco.

Drank over three nights. Very dark color, but has already thrown a fair amount of sediment. Violet, ripe blackberry on the nose. Cassis and cedar in the mouth, but a touch hollow. Those flavors followed through on the finish. 1st of 6 bottles, I wondered if this was asleep.

Drank over two days, and like partylikeakennedy, during a business trip, did not decant, and shared with a colleague. Dark red to purple, no bricking. On the first day the bouquet featured a good whack of toasted oak, Cabernet Sauvignon imparted peppers, violets, dark berries, gravel, graphite, black earth, and minerals. The wine tasted as it smelled. Focus, structure, and balance marked the experience. Had it at 92 on this day. The toasted element had integrated by the second day, with blackberry, pomegranate, rooibos, graphite, and a tremendous purity of Cabernet Sauvignon showing prominently. High quality, blackberry and graphite driven finish. Delightful experience, excellent wine! This needs three to five years to come into its own and should drink well through 2028-2030. 93-94.

Drunk over 2 nights. Too much for me on opening - oak covered fruit and woody bitter palate. But after just under 2 hours in the glass, intense damson fruit, violet, eucalyptus and wood spice / leather polish on the nose. Nicely balanced. Full, and rich, blueberry and tobacco on the palate. Fine tannins. Survives well overnight - although balance is a little lost, more oak prominence, fruit a bit hidden. Overall, a great value, modern style Bordeaux - at its best 3 hours in on day one for me. Even a hint of classical Bordeaux freshness, then. Drinking from now with air.

I can dig it! Despite having to cough up $70 for it in Houston. Sighhhh....this place really is a wine desert. But I'm willing to pay what I have to in order to drink decent shit when I'm here. I did the unthinkable and started drinking right away without decanting (well I'm in a hotel room, I'm kinda limited). Danky nose of woods, overripe cherry, mushrooms. Tight tannins on the palate (I'm decanting it with my FACE okay??) but they're actually super enjoyable. You know what? I'M NOT SORRY I DIDN'T DECANT IT. Tobacco, cocoa, anise, blackberry. I'm sure it'll keep changing though....my coworker down the hall has another bottle of a Napa Cab so we're gonna go back and forth between them all night to see how they develop. This is how you make work travel enjoyable, kids.

4 hour decant...still not showing its best. Earthy, woody, floral on the nose. Sour cherry, eucalyptus ( licorice?) on palate. Dusty tannins and long finish. Will be good but not showing well right now. Wait 2-3 years for next.
A bit closed to start but opens up and shows some typical Bordeaux elements. Leather and tobacco on the palate together with blue/dark fruit. A lot of earth mid and finish. So much more elegant than the rest this tasting round from the New world. Also a lot more austere than my recollection of the 2009 I tasted recently, which would make sense considering the vintages. Would be interesting to revisit in 5-10 years time. 90-92p

I served this in my wine course. Showed best among the four Bordeaux, and showed much better than the Clos du Marquis of the same vintage. Floral nose. Some wood, but seems well balanced and in proportion to the fruit. Decent finish. Tannins are already mellowed, but still provided good structure.

Popped and poured (a mistake) purple at the rim, sweaty nose, plums, black fruit. Smooth in the mouth, medium bodied. Not ready, needs time or three to four hours in a decanter. Hold, I'd say two years.

What a great wine. The nose promises eucalyptus, blue fruits and a smoky earth and oak combination. It is balanced perfectly and I can see it living 15+ years given the vintage, just like the '82 Gloria we had recently. Day 2 rolls on and it's still purring, maybe a little short on the finish, but easy medium-bodied drinking. Glad I picked up a dozen of these at the price point

Bordeaux 2009/2010 tasting at home. Double-decanted for 7 hours. Deep purple color. Beautiful and sexy nose of flowers, sweet oaky notes, cassis, blueberries, spices... On the palate, there are notes of dark berries, earth, sweet spices and flowers. It's medium-full bodied with medium-high tannin and medium-high acidity. Very long finish. The more air it received, the more classic it got... A very classy and classic wine from this estate. Make not mistake... behind all the seductive fruit, there is some serious structuce.... It's drinking nicely now already with some air, but it will probably last for a long time... (93+)

Bordeaux Tasting (Private Residence (Miami, FL)): Full body color but a bit closed at the moment. Reticent bouquet of fruit tree bark, tinge of manure and dark fruits. Palate has dark cherry, dense oak, and dusty tannins. Finishes on the shorter side and needs more time to develop. 90-93

PHMG WAG: The 2010 Bordeaux (Chateau Lyon): Deep black fruit, still somewhat primary. Cigar, coffee, and spice rounds things out. Tannins substantial but well hidden. Surprisingly drinkable again with a long life ahead -- very nice for 2 more days.
Not closed, primary and wide open like a barrel sample. Starts out fruity as all get out. Nearly garish, jammy modern nose with some caramelly new oak and oodles of cassis, but there is also something fresh too with smokey-gamey notes appearing and some cooling capsicum. This is spicy right now, with huge minerality and more restraint on the palate, showing inky iodine, ripe but with some cranberry tartness, and lots of tannins on the finish but not freakishly so. I confess, I really like this, but I doubt that Bordeaux tasted like this when young in years past (I know the 2000 vintage didn't and most 2005s didn't either).
I opened this more for educational purposes, let's see how this develops in the cellar against this reference baseline.

With ample ripe blackberry, chocolate, spice and espresso, this tannic, powerful vintage of Gloria is built to age and evolve. It has the depth and structure to improve for years. From a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, this is one of the best buys from St. Julien in this vintage.

66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. This was the equal of the 2000 and 2009. Deep purple color. A very powerful and tannic wine. Not showing as much fruit as the other St. Julien wines. Notes of asphalt and wet earth. 90-91 points.

Much more open that the bottle I tasted little over a month ago. Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, smoke and toast. On the palate the same.

Red berry fruit and iron dominate the palate, and there’s a nice ripeness to the fruit. Medium tannins with a lingering finish. Guessed 2009 St. Julien.

Bordeaux 2010 Vintage Horizontal Tasting (at home with dear friends)
This tasting was a total shock for me – in the most pleasant way. How can (relatively) young Grand Cru Bordeaux taste so drinkable?! Wow!!!
The wines were decanted four hours prior, yet they were still evolving in the glass.
Château Tronquoy-Lalande, Saint-Estèphe 93 p.
Nose: Dark berries, a mixture of tertiary aromas (eg. hint of lacquer), tobacco.
Palate: Mid fullbodied, long, succulant, dark berries, sweet fruits, a bit leather, silky tannins.
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot
Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac 95 p.
Nose: Cassis (jam), layers of tertiary aromas, smokey vanilla, velvety leather.
Palate: Rather fullbodies, very long, succulant, fruity, dark berries, some cherry, leather, elegant “dusty” tannins.
65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot
Château Gloria, Saint-Julien 93 p.
Nose: Mouth watering, succulant, red berries, tertiary aromas, smoked toffee.
Palate: Initially strong attack, rather fullbodied, fruity, long, prunes.
(63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot)
Château Gruaud Larose, Saint-Julien 92 p.
Nose: Initially (pleasant) hint of barnyard and ripe red berries, later jammed red berries and hint of cherry, tertiary aromas (eg. dry flower potpourri and hint of lacquer), pencil/cedar wood.
Palate: Mid fullbodied, fruity, prunes, (dried) fruits, silky tannins, rather long.

This was restrained on the nose upon opening much more than the palate. After an hour, started to really open up and was enjoyable. Still a young wine with plenty of life ahead of it.
Black fruit, graphite, cedar, vanilla, and some very early signs of tertiary notes (mushroom)

Good, slight undertone of brett if you are sensitive to that, if not, it added a nice dimension to the cherry driven, hints of cola, cassis, nice depth and concentration for the price range. There is a softness and elegance to this wine even this early in it's life cycle.

This needs three to five years to come into its own and should drink well through 2028-2030. 93-94.

So much more elegant than the rest this tasting round from the New world. Also a lot more austere than my recollection of the 2009 I tasted recently, which would make sense considering the vintages.

Kind of a licorice-dominated palate. A bit brooding, a little more detail than most vintages? Solid, competent for the vintage. 90-92

Union des Grands Crus 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel - San Francisco): Quite rich on the nose showing tons of ripe dark fruits, cassis, toasted oak, and fresh coffee beans. Plenty of black cherry on the palate, along with some nice red fruits peeking through, leather, coffee beans, and tart red currants. Firm acidity with nice length. Very good

Much more open that the bottle I tasted little over a month ago. Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, smoke and toast. On the palate the same. Beautiful juice with good acidity and tannin and a good length. Luxurious impressions. Glory for this Gloria, but probably wise to wait until 2020 - 2022 at least. 91 - 92+ for now.

Nose of black fruit and vanilla... tannins present, lacking fruit, quite tough in the mouth, hint of greeness

UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2010 (Brussels): The bouquet is a bit reticent and shows some bell peppers. On the palate there is much more luxury with concentrated black fruits like cassis and other dark forest fruits. Beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity. A combination of a classical and modern made wine. For today 90 - 92, so I put 91 in CT.

Bibendum Bordeaux 2010 tasting including selected back vintages (Lords Cricket Ground - St Johns Wood, London): Power, fruit, velvet, great structure and pretty much on the money. Super refreshing. Everything seems in abundance and balance. Acidity and tannins really prop this up. Top notch stuff and certainly worth an audition. 91-93

Deep, dark fruits on the concentrated nose - very black in character; lovely flavour on the palate and some definite animal notes. Very rich and ripe, pinching tannins. Very long aging wine. 91-93
