Last of 6 bottles, loved this BdB today after a day on the water boating. Bright citrus, gorgeous apples, and saline chalkiness. Loveley overall bottle, drink sooner than later.

Didn't catch the base as this was served from a cart in a restaurant... but it tasted good regardless! Classic BdB, although on the relatively full-bodied side, with some citrus fruit seasoned by light toast and, with air, a clearer Marmitey note. Pleasing sense of energy, and a zesty mouthfeel, whilst avoiding going too far towards being 'bracing' - an excellent aperitif, then.

Moderate lemon in the glass. Yeasty, biscuity; definitely dominated by secondary notes here. The palate is zippy, refreshing with that high acidity bringing out the fruit beautifully. Easy and approachable style of Champagne, but lacks a bit of complexity and depth. Paired with honeycomb cookies, was an interesting pairing where the honey of the cookies really popped.

Lovely BdB, enjoyed my penultimate of 6 bottles paired with fresh scallops and linguine. Lovely pairing, the wine shows shy orchard fruits with more citrusy notes interlaced, and a bright acidity alongside a nervy chalkiness. Lovely, bright, nicely paired with the seafood. Drink the final bottle in the next few years.

Lovely wine indeed. Even the freshest of Delamotte is enjoyable. I wish that I knew when the wine was disgorged. Would love to try it again 5-6 years on down the road, the NV cuvee.

France Trip: Paris, Champagne, Burgundy; 9/3/2023-9/17/2023 (Paris, Champagne, Burgundy): Light gold color. Split the bottle between the four of us at Le Bistrot Bourguignon in Beaune. This was a particularly good bottle of the BdB. It really had that Sea spray nose going on, biscuit, pear, quite elegant on the nose with fine wispy minerality and a creamy mousse on the palate.

Base vintage 2017 served en magnum. A bit more verve than the basic brut NV served just before but very similar. More lemon on the palate. Eventual brioche notes. Quite austere. 89-90/100

Lovely BdB, bottle #4 of 6, last had one about 2 yrs prior. Beautifully delineated citrus and green apple fruit. Chalk, minerality, perhaps some sage or thyme...quite bright and incisive on the finish. Drink through 2025 or so. Very nice.

Nose starts with lime oil and a little lemon zest. Palate has lovely mouthfeel with limey caress lasting a good 15 seconds. Acidity is a point. Later something chalky on the nose.

Drank alongside the Brut, usually Blancs de Blancs are dryer, but this was the opposite of the Brut, quite plush on entry and finishes round, good at its level. If you still eat candy or want to drink this with a sweet palate this may be a pick.

Rounded, fat, low-acid style with a fairly evident dosage. Orchard fruits veer into an almost tutti-frutti tropical impression. This won’t appeal to the acid freaks, but I appreciated its richness, vinosity and touch of grip.

Once again, this was remarkably good. Lovely nose of brioche, pears, and apples. Chard coming through loud and clear. Fairly round. Perhaps a tad more acidity and minerality would have made this even better. But, overall, delicious.

Pop and pour. Notes from 3 days open, in the fridge overnight. Always a pleasure to drink this. Lovely acidity, amazing fruit, lemon, lime, herbs, loads of stony minerality. Mousse a touch aggressive on open, but fantastic now.

Brioche aroma. On the palate, the fresh acidity of apples and soft toasty notes balance each other nicely. The minerality is there but rather subdued. Soft and elegant! Rated 90 points.

Very consistent NV, aperitif style, firm and mineral at times sharp but in no way angular. Its been a few year since we had this and from earlier note ( Papies 90) this very much looks consistent across bottlings albeit unfortunately they provide very little in term of date. 90

There seems to be a stylistic change for delamotte bdb. It is more balanced, not as acidic, a bit more toasty, a bit more heavy. Not full on bollinger, but going toward that direction.

Tasted at a charity tasting event sponsored by a large NJ retailer. One more white/sparkler served too cold. This was a step up though from the NV Brut with more texture, reasonably detailed tart lemon fruit and maybe a touch of green apple. Very fresh tasting and with a quite mineral finish. I didn't get much of the yeastiness/brioche I enjoy perhaps due to the excessive chill. Could rate a notch higher in another setting.

Good clean Champagne...... no off notes, but no major surprises either. Perhaps a little tame. But doesn't put a foot wrong, but doesn't take any risks either.. There are some old reserve wines in the blend, good quality but I wish it were a little fresher.

At a Confrerie dinner, early birds apero. This showed surprisingly well with beautiful nose of citrus and brioche intermixed. Lovely and creamy on the palate, not too sinewy as BdB sometimes can be. They found a good balance here between freshness and volume. 92+

My other NV reference Champagne for Blanc de Blanc is here to open,
great freshness initially, large amount of chalk, a great mineral core, some greenish apples and a full load of citrus fruit, very good mouthfeel, increasing steely with more aeration, and revealing some more tasty brioche notes, very long finish, would benefit from some years cellar time, **(*-****),around 91,92 potential

12% alcohol. Half bottle. No info on disgorgement or dosage. Pale straw colour with very fine fizz. The nose is largely lemony with yellow flowers and some wax added. Lively and balanced in the mouth with good length and some verbena. I am basing this note on a glass drunk after the meal (bottle recorked and refrigerated in between). The initial impression was much less favourable, much more bland. So, maybe this is a Champagne that needs some air.

First bottle of this, after enjoying two halfs recently, may I introduce you, the CT community, my newest reference Champagne bottling, this time for an NV Blanc de Blanc? here we are! Very fresh nose full of citrus, green apples and a full load of chalk, on the palate mouthwatering, invigorating, firm and very clean, there are hints of white bread crest, but that young it is crispy and limy all the way swallowing, great mouthfeel here, long, convincing finish, recommended, better with a decent decant now, *(**-****), around 91(+)

Dinner with Friends (Maple & Ash, Chicago): Brief note from memory, courtesy of M&A as we were seated. Light golden color and a bit more toasty and rich than I expected. Baked apple, lemon, and toasted almond elements with a subtle yeasty undertone. Fine bead. Excellent.

This is the weakest offering from Delamotte so far. It has a bit less of the sea-shells sea sand smell and taste as the entry-level brut, and less fruit. It is a bit more acidic, but it is a simple wine, almost simplistic, way dominated by the entry-level brut. In a way a disappointment.

Wine Spectator 40th Anniversary; 10/21/2021-10/23/2021 (Marriott Marquis): This benefited from me not being a chard person which was the other choice. Very bright and fresh and crisp and a great value for the wine. It's lemon and lightness and makes the food almost a bit less intense (a crab salad by Emeril). Works very well.

3rd bottle of 6 purchased; last consumed 2 yrs ago. Beautiful apple and citrus fruits, buttressed by notes of lees and wet stones, some prickly white pepper, and a savory nuttiness. Long and tense on the finish, drink through 2024+. No DG listed on the bottle.

Disgorged July 2019. Tart fresh lemon flesh on the nose, alongside crisp green apple, blanched almonds, fresh brioche. All there on the palette with added lemon zest, toasted almond, fantastic tartness, and a lovely nutty aftertaste. As it warmed in the glass the nuttiness became more pronounced. I perhaps agree with some others that a little more acid would have added to it but still lovely in 35 degree heat.

The Opener 2021 (The Ranch, WI): Light gold color. Very much like the bottle from last year. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. This really hit the spot after a long day on the lake in relative heat. Nicely yeasty and bready, pear, dried apple, fine minerality and just nice purity overall. Probably the best bottle of this I've had.

12% alcohol. Just a short note to record the fact that I enjoyed this half bottle a lot more than the full one that I had recently. Much more rounded and harmonious, and more similar to my memory of earlier bottles. There is a nascent pre-oxidative feel to the mouth, and it is entirely to the benefit of this wine, adding a layer of complexity. Clearly more evolved on account of the format, meaning that my regular bottles simply need more cellar time.

12% alcohol. No disgorgement date, but I bought this bottle at least three years ago. The dosage is not mentioned, but it is reputed to be 7-8 g/L. The colour is very pale with a greenish tinge. Abundant fizz initially, calming down to a persistent flow of very fine bubbles. The nose shows green apples, white flowers and verbena. The mouth has very good energy and medium intensity; good length with a significant bitter component in the finish. The dosage certainly does not call attention to itself. Went well with oysters and smoked salmon, not so much with prawns as the bitter component pulled against the inherent sweetness of the dish. A good Champagne in the 35-40€ bracket, but there is an abundance of choice at similar prices, and I cannot say that this bottle outclassed its peers. In perfect condition with room for improvement.

A champagne that won't challenge many drinkers, but will please nearly everyone. We were pleased, for sure. Cream, chalk, and some hints of citrus and pear showed through. Fine bubbles. Balanced... neither too elegant nor overpowering. Dry.

Cork code A81 Very in line with the style of Delamotte. Predominantly mineral on the nose with a lot chalk, wet stones, and some gunpowder, and slightly floral with white lilies; not as fruity as we expected, but with ripe lemons; it’s surprisingly toasty on the palate with overtoasted bread, toasted mixed nuts, and caramelized brown sugar; somehow metallic/steely. In general, we thought this was somehow cleaner and more precise than the Brut entry. It’s not a stimulating champagne, rather one to drink at an informal pace without too much thought. Everything is in its place, but there is no real emotion. I can’t imagine this ageing in an interesting way; it’s a wine to drink now. We certainly have a lot of apéritif-level references in the same price range that we enjoy more. 87pt

(Disgorged in spring of 2013, base year 2008, 100% Chardonnay) Maturity with citrus, hazelnuts and green apples and with a very nice acidic and minerals intensity combined with a buttery note. (Best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Savoring the Summer (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. I say it every time we have this; I really do like this cuvee. Recent years have been particularly good. This has such a nice yeastiness with a touch of toast, sour dough, a little crustacean minerality, and a nice pear note on the nose. The palate is poised, with pear, citrus, light toast, lemon, and yeast. Very good, and always a good tick above the straight brut. This is a buy. 91+ to 92pts.

Dinner at MingHin (Chicago, IL): A clear step up from the regular brut. This is a far more delineated and precise champagne, with a touch of tart citrus to go with it. On the midpalate and finish, I pick up a little bit of chalkiness as well. Much more overall complexity here as well.

Crisp and elegant in the floral and fruity nose; still acidic on the enjoyable palate, with citrus fruits and peels, pears, plums, toast, wet pebbles, and yeasts; long finish with some dancing bubbles as this bottle had been cellared for 10+ years; overall, 92-93 points at this stage; still some potential to age and evolve further.

100% chardonnay from the chalk soil vineyards of Mesnil-sur-Oger (i.e., the best), a stable-mate of Salon, and not dissimilar in style. Stainless steel ferment, low dosage of 7g. Refined, light effervescence, quite dry, evolving finish, shy hint of oxidation.

12% alcohol. From a half bottle. Y 10 on the top of the cork, whatever that means. The nose is yeasty, pure and fresh, free of any oxidative note. The mouth has good tension, great balance and a refreshing finish. No harshness and no excessive acidity, but no flabbiness either; comes across as perfectly dry. In my regular glass (Gabriel), the fizz dissipates quite fast, but its effect in the mouth remains very pleasant and refined. Next time I will try using a Champagne flute, but I don't expect any improvement except on the visual side. A great companion to our organic smoked salmon, and a repeat purchase.

This is a gorgeous BdB. I find Blanc de Blancs to oftentimes be so searing and intense that I tend to prefer blends...but this wine seems to have the best of both worlds: intensity of citrus fruit, and seamlessly balanced acidity. There are almonds, some autolytic notes, with spice and chalk. Beautiful finish, this NV should drink well through 2026+.

Wine-Ark tasting Tyrell's (wine ark alexandria): Biscuit, toast, a little lemon, honey and a kind of drying core on the palate that lends a tightness that I don't really like...other than that pleasant enough. Though it was an NV we were told it was from 2006.

A rich and fleshy Blanc de Blancs, showing honeyed aromas of lemons, sweet pears, apples, and earth. The palate delivers juicy loquat and apple flavors that are energized by a candied tanginess, salty minerality, and lovely freshness. Wet stones hurtle towards the full, brisk-beaded finish.

Sort of a workmanlike Blanc de Blanc, balancing citric acidity, brioche autolytic notes, orchard fruit and a chalky minerality. Pretty foursquare, but really well balanced and sort of everything you want in a base level Champagne. Speaks more to "Champagne" than a real house style but it is still quite good.

Unimpressive especially given its price point. Correct but to me lacks extract and weight. Interesting that while Le Mesnil is trumpeted on the label as where the wine was made, there is nothing on the label regarding grand cru vineyards, or premier cru vineyards for that matter. Those distinctions matter. Not the champagne for me. Delamotte of course is an NM - negociant. Where the grapes come from is anyone's guess.

Wednesday Wine Party Free & Easy (Chateau Davyd): Allowed to breathe 30mins in bottle and drank over 1 hour. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Thin legs. Fine bubbles. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of stony minerality, light brioche, citrus lemon-lime, green apple. Youthful. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium- body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon-lime, green apple, light brioche, stony chalky minerality. Medium+ finish. Good quality. Easy drink with a linear character, but rather uninteresting I would say. No information on disgorgement date on the bottle. Would be a waste of space trying to age this in the cellar. Drink up.

Nothing special in this bottle, an "everyday" Champagne, not for a special occasion, which, sadly, this was (New Year's Eve). The nose and taste were those of a lightly fruity Chardonnay, with none of the chalkiness, acidic bite, or yeasty compounds I had expected, ie.nothing like the Millesimé I drank only a couple months ago.

A bottle as a complimentary gift from the hotel and drank as an aperitif and then to accompany our opening courses. This is a high piano note classic Blanc de Blancs that I found a bit too acidic as an aperitif but went better with white truffle and scallops.....and also with the white-truffled beef tartare. Nothing not to like here as long as you appreciate its single piano note....... we were spoiled by drinking a bottle of Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs 2002 as comparison in the previous 12-24 hours.

Fine bubbles. It is well balanced, a bit savory and a bit creamy without being too soft and round. It coaxes you with a complex nose then gives your mouth a gentle caress and finishes with a lingering spice. Delicious.

Est. in 1760. 5th oldest house in Champagne. Sister estate to Salon? 100% Grand Cru. Why they don't put that on the label is beyond me. Sugar cookie and a little grapey up front. Lots of sparkly mineral aromas.

Nice, rounded champagne with persistent finish. Some deep yeast and mushroom notes in the mid and late palate. Balanced by a bit of lemon curd (but not much). Low/medium acidity. Nice show.

New Year's Eve: WineSpectator.com Offline, San Diego (San Diego): The label indicates "Le Mesnil Sur Oger." This is a non-vintage cuvee from the producer of Salon. Clear light pale straw color. Vigorous mousse, medium bead. Yeasty bread dough, apples, pear, white grapefruit. With less sense of terroir, less delineation and wow-factor, and much less damage to the pocketbook than its big brother.

The score is unfairly low but..... I often like opening a NV and vintage wine at the same time. So why not the '96 Salon? It crushed this wine without mercy.
Nice crisp acidity and a touch of citrus and dough.

I like this wine. The nose shows lots of apple and, perhaps, guava along with subtle hints of smoke, crumbled stone, and tarragon. Medium body with sweet fruit at mid and really nice earthy, stony elements. Good length and balance.

A solid bottle of champagne but nothing mind blowing. After opening up a bit in the glass, a bit of savory complexity appeared complimenting the fruit quite well. A bit disjointed though as it warmed up... worth trying at the right price.

Salon and Delamotte dinner at Dogwood Cafe (Baltimore, Maryland): Apparently this is the first time this champagne gets imported to the states. According to Jean-Baptiste , the export director, the youngest wine is from 2004 and spent more than five years in the bottle. Very precise, light, mineral expression with some white flowers, lime, limestone. Fine mousse, very clean light palate, limestone and bright acidity. If you like clean, mineral driven, airy champagne, you will enjoy this. Not a lot of strong unique characters though.

Pale straw colour with very fine fizz.

I am basing this note on a glass drunk after the meal (bottle recorked and refrigerated in between). The initial impression was much less favourable, much more bland. So, maybe this is a Champagne that needs some air.

Dry.

Very in line with the style of Delamotte.
87pt

Savoring the Summer (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. I say it every time we have this; I really do like this cuvee. Recent years have been particularly good. This has such a nice yeastiness with a touch of toast, sour dough, a little crustacean minerality, and a nice pear note on the nose. The palate is poised, with pear, citrus, light toast, lemon, and yeast. Very good, and always a good tick above the straight brut. This is a buy. 91+ to 92pts.

England v Australia (RWC 2015): Served from magnum. Not sure of the base wine but this was purchased in 2012 and has remained in my Eurocave since then.
Clean nose, clear appearance with fine mousse. Well balanced with albeit on the leaner side of full-bodied - decent acidity. Yeasty/brioche nose.
This is a very decent champagne without risking ever being an excellent one, and has yet to disappoint. Always happy to have more in my cellar.
