Another great bottle of this cuvée. It held it's own following a stunning Krug GC and the LB Levant VV. Orange, pear, white flowers, hazelnut, apple, and ginger. A great bottle to open when it would have been wiser not to open another.

Grand Cru Classe 1911 is a multi-vintage wine, composed of 50% 1996 and 25% each 1995 and 1997. Party wine for swedish king 60 birthday in2004. A richly-textured, complex aroma with nutty honey mixed with lemon vanilla oak. Full body with long finishing with intense of endless favor.
The 1911 is 100% Pinot Noir made from various lieu-dits in Bouzy.

Has really benefited from a few more years in the cellar. Lovely golden colour. I thought there was a good bit of Chardonnay in this but it’s apparently 100% PN. Lovely lemon biscuit flavour. Will buy more of this. Superb champagne.
Disgorged June 2023 and been on lees for 10 to 12.5 years! 100% Pinot Noir from Bouzy. Exceptionally fresh. Nose of bruised apples, almonds, brioche. Slightly oxidative. Palate is lively and long with similar notes to the nose. Really fine mousse. So balanced with tertiary and primary characteristics. Reminds a little of an aged bottle of Krug. Worth seeking out IMHO.

Had this bottle in our cellar for a number of years (2011?)…. Fine, softer mousse. Golden yellow. Oxidative and vinous. Notes of marzipan, vanilla clover, and honey. Long layered finish. Excellent!
Based on 2007 (25%), 2008 (50%) and 2009 (25%) fruit. Starting to show a nicely aged bouquet with nutty notes, fine brioche and bakery notes, almond, mineral notes of powdery rocks and fruit of bruised apple, pear and strawberry extract. Detailed aroma profile. On the palate fresh acidity with more oxidative flavors, maybe a tad bitter finish.

Not quite as funky as the last bottle (same lot), and a little less interesting. Predominately tasted like fizzy apple cider, with some citrus and a bit of brioche. Good body and persistency. Not bad, but nothing special. Disg. 2022.

The Clouet 1911 was also very nice, if not over the top toasty and brioche laden (can you complain though?). The wine achieves a good balance, bringing acidity to those richer, vinous flavors.

Cuvée 79 disgorged in June, 2019. Amber, persistent mousse. Mature aromas of toffee and caramel. Full bodied, creamy, fresher and less nutty than the last bottle I had. Dry, rich, full of bitter citrus and brioche. Moderately long finish. This wine always resonates with me despite it not being my preferred Champagne style. Terrific!

Last bottle from purchase in 2018. Not turned, but challenging on the way that some just-turned wines can challenge. Funky, with dried orange, strawberry-banana, butter, all subsumed to minerality. Not a crowd pleaser, but a palate teaser. Will seek out more from more-recent releases.

This was a big hit at our boat parade party. I didn’t get any oxidative notes at all (for which I’m thankful), but a crisp, medium bodied, fairly complex champagne, with apples on the nose. I liked it a lot, and I’m glad I have more.

This was a restaurant purchase of uncertain disgorgement, but tasted roughly 20 years old with a strong oxidative component, actually very aged Krug-like, powerful elements of caraway, pumpernickel, high intensity, freshened considerably with air.
January 2023 Disgorgement. 5g/l dosage. Got this recent bottling so decided to see how it fares. Where the other bottlings I've had is a perfect balance of freshness and oxidative character, this one tips the scale to the fresher side. Still enjoyable, full bodied.
I'd imagine more time in the bottle will develop to be more like the older bottlings I've had.

Our friends' bottle. Ironically, my last TN stated "I've never had an off bottle". While this wasn't off, it was atypical of previous experiences. I always like the interplay of freshness and maturity in this cuvée. This bottle had some nice tangerine going on, but was dominated by savory, creamy mushrooms and spice. It might be bottle variation or the fact that our friend stores it in a closet. It was still fun, but not a representative bottle

If we had a house champagne, this would be it. These need some time after disgorgement, but we've loved every bottle. There's always a beautiful interplay between the youthful and aged components in this wine. Some bottles show one side of that more than others, yet I've never had an "off" bottle. This had apples and biscuits, with tart lemon flavors and acidity, coffee beans. Great finesse, complexity and chalky minerality.

Disgorgement january 2022. Markedly different from a bottle 1 1/2 year ago (though with unknown disgorgement date). While that previous bottle was very yeasty, mineral, dry, cheesy and only marginally fruity, this bottle today is almost the opposite with ripe golden apples and sweet almond paste but only moderate minerality and yeasty creaminess. Body and intensity are good and the mouthfeel is refined. Overall while not top notch this is a distinctive bottle of champagne due to its evolved, oxidative profile. And it is food-friendly and excellent QPR.

The nose is deep, round, and toasty with brioche, golden grahams, almond paste, quince, red apples, pears, yellow flowers, custard, biscuits, and warm pastry notes. The Medium bodied feel shows off a lot of texture and balance with crisp, high acidity that is well integrated. This is always a winner, and this bottle is no different. This shows off all of the classic hallmarks that I expect from a 1911 while being as drinkable and excellent as I'd expect. This was from a fresher disgorgement, but I didn't write down the specific disgorgement date.

====================================== The wire is all rusty, and there is a sticky substance under the foil in places. I don't know if it's glue or overflowing wine, but it smells sour.
Another bottle that I peeled off the foil also rusted on the wire, so I opened the existing bottle. Judging from the enormously swollen cork, I wondered if DeGorgemint was recent, perhaps boiling.
Immediately after pouring the glass, the reductive nose is powerful and the alcohol rushes in. The bitterness of grapefruit is strong enough to overshadow the acidity. Carbonic acid is harsh and powerful.. I think it will get better in a few years... but the quality is rather poor compared to the price of $ 80
Consistent with my last tasting note. The wine improved significantly one day after opening in the fridge. This suggests more cellaring, which is unfortunately very difficult to do with Clouet bottles since there is neither a production nor a disgorgement date on the bottle.

Another one I wish I had noted sooner. Opened for Mother’s Day after we finished the Cedric Bouchard and that was an unfair setup for this bottle. Vigorous mousse that remained even on day 2 (good!). Not sure the dosage but it was clearly present. Nice citrus aromas and flavors, plenty of acidity and nice texture. Obviously much more in your face and rustic Champagne than Bouchard so I suspect I will be giving this higher scores when I taste it on its own.

Served blind. Apparently the base is from 2008. Lots of color. Fresh and complex nose with a golden quality. Juicy, fresh and very dry. I thought a no dose wine but I do not believe that is the case with this bottling. Intriguing wine as it showed young and mature at the same time. One of the better wines on the day.
This is a wine that improves which each bottle, and each passing month and year. Last night we enjoyed another with dinner. It blossomed in the glass with air. It combines youthful freshness and energy with some mature scents and flavors. Pear, white flowers, hazelnut, apple, and ginger. 100% GC Bouzy Pinot Noir. I've read it's always blended with 50% of one vintage with a solera of least 10 years or 50% blend of three specific vintages. Perhaps both are true. 6 years sur lattes, and that shows. A mix of stainless and neutral oak. I believe most of my bottles are based off of the 2008 vintage. Unfortunately, the back label yields no useful information. The three cases I purchased will likely prove an inadequate amount. These are seriously under-priced for the quality, and they age remarkably well. An old bottle disgorged in the 90's was stunning when we opened it a few years ago.
Nose of grass, lemon and yellow apple. Palate is a bit one dimentional with yellow apple peel as the prominent taste. Some seawater and citrus. Medium acidity, medium length.

Definitely very good, but was not blown away

I had heard good things about this bottling from Clouet and was able to get my hands on some. Off the bat, I think this is pretty good QPR for Champagne.
Complex, there are so many layers to this. On the nose it seems relatively standard, brioche, baked golden pear, candied apricot.
Then the palate really impressed me. It struck the perfect balance of oxidative winemaking, while keeping the integrity of the fruit. Juicy mango (seriously, it felt like I bit into one), baked pear again, brioche, lemon and some chalkiness. There was good weight to this on the palate too. Evolving throughout, but this bottle disappeared pretty quick.

Det man får stilmessig her, er freshe bobler og samtidig moden stil, utadvendt toppfrukt, bakst/brioche over honning og litt sopp. Mineraltoner. Fin balanse i munn, pinot-rik fruktsødme inn. Nydelig til rakfisk. På alle måter et strålende produkt, og med tanke på ambisjonsnivået og hvordan denne vinen uttrykker Clouets prosjekt, er prisen egentlig latterlig lav. 12%

Deep gold. On the nose the wine has notes of molasses, manuka honey, toasted walnuts, baked apple pastries. The wine is bone dry with searing high acidity well integrated and a palate also demonstrating lemon, minerality. The finish goes on and on with a hint of dried orange peel. An incredibly complex wine with concentration and intensity. Outstanding now but could still go some years. The oxidative notes from the solera reserves are evident but well integrated as is the yeast and acid.

This NV consisted of 50% 2008 fruit and 50% 10 year solera. Dosed with 5 g/l. came straight after drinking a natural burgundy and this was an acid punch to the face. It has really nice orchard fruit and balance, but the acid is insanely strong at first. It mellows later, but this is a hold and forget at this point.

Another nice bottle of Clouet Un Jour de 1911. I think these need a bit of time after disgorgement to really shine. This bottle seemed to have more of the old solera showing through than the base year 2008. Lots of white flowers, hazelnut, apple, and ginger. It was loved by all, and the bottle was empty in no time.

Medium gold colour. Small and lively bubbles. Medium (+) and developing nose with red apples, ripe lemon, butter, brioche, leather, mushroom, roasted walnuts and apple pie. Medium taste of red apples, ripe lemon, butter, toast, bread dough, leather, wet stone, roasted walnuts and apple pie. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good solera based Champagne with 2008 base. Needed 15 min in the glass to open. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well as an aperitif, or with cured meat.

Where do I start... not a bad wine especially for the price but I have a lot of feedback for this producer. This is a recent release, must be a base around 2014 as the wines see 72 months of Oak. Here is my main point of critic: There are no facts on this label whatsoever. If you don't google the wine, you don't know that this is made with a Soleara reserve, you don't know that it is a BdN from 100% Pinot Noir, you don't know that lees aging is 6 years - and no matter what you do - you will never know the base year or the disgorgement of the bottle you just bought. If Andre Clouet wants to join the ranks of the serious growers, there needs to be a back label with this info, period. There are also often complaints about the flimsy aluminum wrap that has to bee peeled away in a 100 pieces. That did not bother me personally that much since I usually lift the entire cover together with the muslet and cork, still why this strange wrap... Anyway, there's your homework, team Clouet. Tasting note: Medium yellow. Pronounced aromas of bruised apples, orchard fruit, pine apples, lemon. Medium+ complexity, good vinous richness. Very bubbly mousse, a bit too foamy at the moment but that may settle with age. I will hand write the base vintage on the label keep this in my cellar for another 5 years as the material here is solid and it will likely add a point or two with more age. 92+
Produced from 100% Pinot Noir from the following vintages; 1995 (25%), 1996 (50%), 1997 (25%).
Pours a pale gold. Aromas of freshly baked crusty white bread, blanched almonds, yellow apple flesh, white pear, white pepper, lightly pickled ginger, and polished steel. A bright, clean, concentrated, high toned palate with red apple skin and layers of citrus. There’s a generous dosage that’s expertly kept in check by the racy acidity. Finishes long with more evolved characteristics of roasted nuts and parmesan rind. Superb.

Mega savoury on the nose, with crusty bread, yeast, buttered brioche, steely minerality, almost a waxy quality, also fresh apple. Amazing tart acidity. Red apple skin. Mouthwatering and long apple then savoury finish. I love the freshness on the palette. Also love that it’s not excessively fizzy. Maybe some lemon zest. So complex and balanced.

Date of degorgement unknown, but probably only two to three years ago. Very yeasty, very bready, a little cheesy at times and very mineral. Fruit? Barely. Therefore I have some issues with comparing it to Krug, as others have done, which has an equally mature and oxidative taste profile but more fruit and seems not as uncompromisingly dry. Nonetheless, this is a champagne full of character with a very good QPR. I might underscore it a little.

Straw. I have to check the degorgement date of this bottle, but it seems to be the youngest I ever had of this cuvee. Quite fruity with apple and pears dominant to the brioche and nutty flavors. Nevertheless great and outstanding, but less powerful in comparison to the 2004 dreamvintage cuvee. 5/12+/17+/10. Needs more time. It is best at least 4-6 years after degorgement. P.S. Nose of yeast, apples, and ripe cheese, Opens with green apples and brioche, transitioning to a yeasty, saline, and almost epoisses like mid-palate, before finishing with nice tart and acidic notes. Very expressive. The cheese funk off of this was very memorable, and would make this a wonderful food wine, but I imagine could be off putting to some that prefer a crisp and lean style.

Vinetasters: Brown Bag (Skokie, IL): 953eme bottle of cuvee 53. Disgorged at Bouzy, June 7th, 2016. One of the better showings of this wine -- this had plenty of richness and depth, with a generous amount of aged pinot champagne character. The richness of this was cut by the acidity, providing a full but balanced wine. I really liked this bottle.

Disgorged June 26, 2019. Powerful nose of dried florals and carmelized sugar. On the palate I found a beautiful expression of Pinot Noir, with a lot of ripe blue/black fruit. Chewy and very autolytic. The acidity doesn’t stand out at all, but rather lends a subtle hand to make this seamless and balanced. Definitely not too young, as it was expressive and probably in its best form right out of the gate.
BTW: Fantastic with Chinese food.

924th bottle of cuvée 53. Pronounced CO2 right when I opened this. This one felt a little more high-toned and aldehydic than some of my previous experiences with this wine. Nonetheless this is still pretty consistent on the palate, with a bit of nuttiness as well as a browned, matured fruit profile. Always a delicious wine in my book -- kind of like a Krug-lite.

This is a delicious entry level Champagne and with the glorious 2008 vintage as a base, this clearly punches above its category. While the nose was a bit muted the palate shines bright with a complex and harmonious profile. Easily 94 points. A more expressive nose and a softer structure and we would be at 95 or more.
TN: Medium- intense nose with vinous aromas and bakery aromas. Much more exciting on the palate, so intense, blanc de blanc like, toast, brioche, very salty, graphite, orchard fruit, a bit of citrus, nicely creamy but with the 2008 poise and freshness. Fine bubbles but not as luxurious and fine like the very best wines. Good length and beautiful finish.
Decanting: Not decanted, no decanting necessary.
Glass: Lehmann Grand Champagne

Appearance: Pale straw with a fine mousse of bubbles.
Nose: Complex, multi-layered. Lemon, honey and tart fruit. Gooseberries, rhubarb, almond perhaps. There’s a bit of dankness which quickly washes away and finally syrupy apricots.
Palate: Sharp acidity with the tiniest hint of tannic bitterness up front. Next comes dried apple skins, pear, lemon, ginger, cinnamon. A long and pleasant finish which reveals sweetness in the form of dried apricots and more honey. Finally there’s deliciously toasted bread.
A very interesting champagne, unique in many respects. Initial thoughts were that it was too acidic but it does mellow. It needs time in the glass and is better a few degrees above fridge temperature. Given time, it is really excellent. I have another bottle that I may leave another 10 years to see how it develops further.

Base 2008, disgorged June 2020. Simply put, this is a fantastic Champagne. I think it is so wonderful because it expresses both the fresh, lively effervescent side of young Champagne, with the deep, toasty, nutty, vinous side of aged Champagne. This wine is a base of 2008 blended with an older perpetual reserve (not sure of the percentage of each). To be fair, I didn't go into this blind, but I believe I can taste the relatively younger component of the wine that is lively and energetic. I can also perceive a deeper, darker, toasty component that, while in the background, provides support and resonance. A truly masterful blend. This will age, but by already including aged components, I believe the blender intended this bottle to be opened sooner rather than later. So if you have hands on one of these, pop the cork, you'll be mightily rewarded!

Pure strawberry fruit core, mineral note of the steely type, nice brioche and very fine herbs. Great intensity mid-palate, fresh with a predominantly citric fruit on the palate. At last this 2008 base is coming together. Previous bottles were disjointed and the latest one had a rather odd bitterness / flavour. Upon opening it seemed to have a similar impression but after 20 mins this melted into the glass somewhat. All starting to work now and is a very solid offering. Not getting too rich or oxidised even on nose and giving good bread notes but has acidity and freshness holding it up.

Nose of red apple, tart tatin, biscuits and yeasty toast. There’s some oxidative notes from the solera but it also has brightness from the more recent 2008 vintage.
On the palate is apple cider, apple skin, and chalky minerality. The finish has nice salinity.
Bright acidity and soft mouthfeel. The residual sugar is on the higher side of brut. I love the complexity from the solera balanced by the fresh acidity. Complex and rich champagne, drinking very well now but with power to last another decade.
Disgorged September 23, 2019, bottle 1364. Cuvée 81, 50% 2008 and 50% solera.

922th bottle of cuvée 53, for Connoisseur Wines, disgorged July 6th, 2016. This has always been a fantastically opulent and rich champagne, with tons of breadth on the palate. This bottle shows a fair bit of autolytic character, and focussing more on cooked rather than fresh fruit (though not in a bad way at all). Lovely sweetness on the midpalate, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and some biscuity tones as well. Delicious as always.

Nose: The nose is as complex as ever, filling the glass with red apples, honeydew melon, pears, kumquats, creams, quince, baker's vanilla, custard, brioche, toast, and roasted nuts. There is excellent depth and balance with great interplay between the more mature and oxidative characteristics and the fresh flavors.
Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with crisp, high acidity. There is great texture and depth with red apples, honeydew melons, kumpquats, creams, custard, brioche, toast, and roasted nuts.
Overall: This is as awesome as it always is. This is a fresher disgorgement and it really benefitted from air in the glass on each pour. I think this could benefit from some time in bottle but it's also just wonderful and such a singular champagne.

2016 disgorgement. Showing golden color. Rich red fruit. Apple. Brioche. Ample toast and supporting fruit and acid. Very long finish. Has left the sulfur and reduction behind and is singing gloriously now.

Interesting to try. Stylistically oxidative and quite clearly a grower with sharp chalky youth. Open knit although also darker fruited with a specific orange zest and spice.

Beautiful medium golden colour, with light, fine perlage. Stone fruit, baked apple, biscuit, brioche, nuts and some smoke, with creamy, medium-fine mousse. Fairly ripe and rich. Balanced, harmonious and very long.

not blind As always a strong wine with a lot of power but balancing acidity. Red berries, bread crust, grapefruit. I like them if they have 5 to 10 years of cellar aging as in this case. For me a perfect for food pairing. It works even with red meat. It is a lush wine. 93-94

Very good, not quite outstanding. From PnP, this was good, but became a bit more complete by the second glass. Rich, though in a restrained style. Nice balance of place/minerals with toasted nuts, rich guava, ripe apples, etc. Kind of like Krug-lite, if you will. At around $80, this is a definite reload. Delicious now, and with a structure to hold at this level for another 3-5 years. highly recommended

I originally thought I had opened a basic NV, but was just informed my bottle was the Cuvée 1911. Here's the TN, originally posted as the wrong wine: Earlier this week, we opened my last NV André Clouet . I bought three of these, as they were bundled with three 1996 Phillipponant Clos des Goisses in an auction lot. I've always considered Clouet a nice fairly priced Champagne, but the bottles I have opened were wonderful. These are old bottles, based on the condition and oxidation of the foil. They were imported by The Rare Wine Company. I'm guessing they're from the nineties since RWC opened in '89, but the bottles look even older. The oxidized foil stuck to the bottle and cork, and while the cork never expanded after opening, this still had a good "pop" and a generous mousse. This would convince anyone that NV Champagne can age beautifully. It was still very lively and clean, with great complexity. Full bodied, red fruit, brioche, mushroom, and a hint of subtle hazelnut. I love it; what a nice surprise from an auction bycatch.

923rd bottle of the 53rd cuvee, dedicated to Connoisseur Wines, and disgorged "6/07/2016". Initially a touch dull and nondescript, this just gets better with air. Broad, rich, oxidative, and nutty, with some browned fruit and beautiful acids, this is a great example of the solera style and is drinking quite well right now. Delicious as always.

Same blend (based on 2008) but not as enjoyable. Has one about 7 months ago that seemed disjointed as if the blends were still separate components. This one seemed more settled and integrated but the finish was very bitter and not overly enjoyable. Nose and palate otherwise as expected with the slightly aged oxidised bread yeast notes. After 30 mins then an hour it did ease up and become more as I’d expect. Just needs time in bottle I feel.

Disgorged February, 2019. Deep brownish yellow, lively small bead. Complex nose-toasty oxidative notes and churned butter. Big, rich, creamy feel. Not completely dry. Bitter citrus complements the large scaled, oxidative style. Once again, I really enjoyed this even if it is not my every day preferred style of fresher, crisper Champagne. For Bolly and Krug lovers.

Attractive nose balancing slightly oxidative and fresh orchard fruit notes. Plate is a medium bodies but with surprising complexity and length. Feels thin but quite flavorful. Pleasant surprise. Might like it more at lower dosage

Dinner with Friends (Bite Cafe, Chicago): Courtesy of m/m slipstitchpass, a blend of the mid- to late-nineties wines, so it has a bit of age on it. Deep and rich bouquet of baked red apples, marshmallow and toasted almonds. Flavorsof candied apple and cooked ginger with a wonderful preserved lemon quality in the finish. In a great place right now. Thanks, slip. 93+ pts.

January birthdays (and porchetta) (Chicago, IL): Of unknown age, this bottle felt a little more oxidative and slightly more nutty and browned than a recent bottle that I purchased. Nonetheless, this is still a brilliant champagne, but tonight this bottle didn't quite have the verve and life that I've seen in other bottles.

"Cette bouteille est la 579 de la cuvée 73... Dégorgée à Bouzy, le 20.09.18." So they write in the small booklet you get if you buy a bottle. Inspite of the small time of bottle age this performs great yet though it is going to age gracefully, I guess. Honey, apple, brioche, pear, toast and nutty notes, almonds in a highly elegant yet intense and powerful style and at the same time so light on its feet. Mineral driven, chalky, almost salty finish. Small fine bubbles. This cuvée never was disappointing in contrast of some bottles of prestige cuvées of the big champagne houses and it is a real bargain as well. Thank god, under the radar of many professional tasters and undervalued in my humble opinion. 5/13/18/10. 19/20 from Weinwisser ("Rein stilistisch eher ein Champagner für erfahrenere Weintrinker als für Etikettentrinker", which means for experienced winelovers not for "labeldrinker") and 95/100 from International Winereports. -2030+ in a cool cellar.

Fine Wines SG - Champagne Tasting (Fine Wines SG): Medium gold, fine beads. Strong aromas and flavours of hazelnut, even some slight marzipan, along with some ripe peaches. The intensity seems to make the acid slightly reduced, but that keeps the wine going on the back. Nice!

Some Grower Champagnes (Flatiron Wines, San Francisco): Outstanding richness and seeming old vine concentration and feel. More oxidative than many wines tonight but not in an exaggerated way that compromises its sense of freshness. I was deeply impressed by this.

Mike's Riesling Dinner (The Glasshouse): Predominantly 2008 base, with a high proportion of older vintages. The latter are to the fore on the nose, with lots of mature bready notes, verging even on cheesiness. 2008 pushes its way forward on the palate, which is much more citrusy and vigorous. There wasn't really any evident mousse, but there must have been some bubbles as it definitely didn't give the impresison of being a still wine.

DG 10/2017 (Cuvée 65) Rich and oxidative style, UMAMI dominates, mushrooms, beef broth, blackcurrant, blackberries, guava, passion fruit, coconut, kirsch, some fresh butter, bread crust, some pepper, honey, some smoke and firewood. Dense texture, vibrant bubbles and moderate acidity. It was very shy but after two hours it became a lot more expressive, it was great. 90pt

Champagne Happy Hour at Pizzeria Bebu (Chicago, IL): I bought these for a song and a dance at an auction where presumably no one else knew what was going on. It came is a fancy wood box and each bottle was individually wrapped in straw with a lovely note giving all the details of the wine (en français naturellement). This was the 955th bottle of the 53rd cuvee, dedicated to Connoisseur Wines, and disgorged "6/07/2016" (those European dates, man). A very rich wine with a lovely sense of density. A distinct mushroom flavour, and a little bit of a umami brothiness as well. Good acidity on the finish that helps tie everything together. Great stuff as usual.

Late night MingHin (Chicago, IL): A bottle purchased in 2014. I think this is one of my favourite grower champagnes -- it just works so well for my palate. A touch of creaminess goes with some sweet apples and nutty oxidative notes. It's full-bodied and rich, with some Krug-like intensity. Plenty of acidity to keep this fresh on the palate too. One other aspect of this I've liked is that even though this feels like it's pretty oxidative and wide, this doesn't have the autolytic yeasty things that can get a little cloying.

A lovely blend. Has plenty on the nose which I love with bread and yeast. Disgorged in 2018 this is 50% based on the 2008 and rest made of other vintages. Really enjoyable.

How about this; 50 percent base from the legendary 96 vintage! Quite developed on the nose with ripe yellow apples, canned pear, honey and biscuit. A complex floral touch on the palate of forsythia and hawthorn. A tad butter and yep, there’s that 96 acidity!

Dinner at Jade Court (Chicago, IL): Purchased (presumably on release) in 2014. I've always loved this wine for its depth and richness, and I think short of Selosse this is one of the best solera champagnes out there. The nose shows a mild mushroom tone, but also this browned fruit opulence that just works. Obviously a champagne made in the oxidative style. There's a slight creaminess on the palate, counterbalanced with some nuttiness and a vibrant streak of acidity.

Terrific Champagne for Korean cold vegetable salad. The salad dressing showed off so much fruit, and encouraged the wine's intensity of character. Really great. I've sat on a case of this "NV" cuvee for over a year, and it just gets better with a little age. Tete du Cuvee for sure.

I am not a big fan of sparkling wine (I simply don't understand the purpose of bubbles), however this one I liked very much, because wine itself was really good. Strong aroma and interesting apples note. And even an aftertaste! Well...OK, but I will stick to still wines.

Wow, the 1911 is a knockout. A beautiful golden color with a pinkish hue at the rim. The nose delivers layers of citrus (lemons, limes) and flowers. The wine has a wonderful mouthfeel--smooth and lithe on the tongue. Everything comes to a dramatic end with bitter orange peel on the finish.

"Southern Rhone" Offline (Mystic Room, SF): Solera style. Champagne cork seemed aged, didn’t rebound like a young cork. Moderately aromatic, a pure minerality to it, salinity, complex; palate is high, high acid, lemon peel, citrus, light but also with a bit of density to it; medium-plus tart finish. 91

(Purchased from retail in late 2014.) "Not overtly corked but a little funky on the nose and muted on the palate." At least, that was my initial impression. But I was pretty wrong about calling this dead. It just needed a fair amount of air to liven up. Once it had been given that, this really did perk up, showing a nose that was still muted, but at least there were some biscuit notes now. The palate shows a slight bit of toast, with a moderate oxidative touch. It's a fairly bready and toasty champagne, with fruit that isn't forthcoming, but with air, this is certainly a lot closer to what I remember this being. Still, this is pretty good for the price point and the solera style -- I think this is better than the Bereche Reflet d'Antan.

Tampa Spring Break III; 2/16/2018-2/18/2018 (Tampa FL): My first time with this wine and I quite liked it. Served from a champagne flute, so the aromatics were a bit difficult to assess and it started a bit too cold. Left a bit in my glass to come back to and it really opened up upon coming to room temperature. Yeasty and a bit oxidative in style - with some rich base notes on the finish. Would love to revisit this in a regular stem.

Tampa Spring Break (the third); 2/16/2018-2/18/2018 (Various Tampa locations (Seasons 52, Capital Grille, Berns etc.)): This champagne has a special place in my heart and I'm sure that colors how I think about it, but for me this is one of the most perfect champagnes. It's light and almost a hint of sweetness and green apple and maybe even white peach (but very crisp). A bit of minerality or 'rock' to it. Very tasty. A nice start to the night. Revisited at the end as well and it's much more expressive in the larger glass.

Medium gold colour with a fine mousse rising in the glass. Notes of brioche, almond and citrus create a beautiful perfumed aroma. The palate is full bodied and opulently textured. Flavours of red delicious apple, cranberry, minerals and dry toast create a wonderfully complex wine. The minerally finish persists on the palate for at least 40 seconds. This is exquisite Champagne, well worth the search to locate the miniscule quantities that make it to North America. www.advinetures.ca

Very pure, strong and clean nose full of red apples. Taste is well balanced with medium acidity. Notes of nuts and some apricots emerge after some air.
It is not the most complex champagne, but it provides a very clean and pure impression - If bold, strong pinot champagne is your thing, then this certainly delivers. L07, which I believe means it is based on the 2004 vintage.

N0 disgorge date on the bottle so I had to choose this entry for my TN. I wasn't feeling this bubbly when it was first opened and granted, we got right after it very quickly and started to drain the bottle fast. It started out round and richer styled, but then with air started to pick up citrus zest and some biscuity tones. Needed some room to breathe. Turned out fine.

Nose: Deep and layered nose filled with brioche, red apples, yeast, honey, cinammon spices, and red berries. There is excellent complexity to boot with a style that just draws you in.
Taste: Full bodied with medium+ acidity. The feel is larger-scaled, yet refined with brioche, cinammon spices, red apples, yeast notes, and a dollop of honey mixed in.

A private lunch (Restaurant Hertog Jan ***, Zedelgem, Belgium): Cuvée 47, bottle no. 753, exported to "Bourgogne Wijnen" in Edegem, Belgium. Much fresher than the bottle tasted in Oxford recently, clearly a recent disgorgement (5 October 2015, I later found out). Mature obviously, but remarkably fresh and floral, wonderful spicy complexity, weighty but elegant, with gentle mousse and firm acidity, substantial bitters, very good length. The booklet does not provide information about the vintages which constitute this cuvée, but I could well imagine that 2008 is at its core.
For reasons known only unto them, the hotel had discarded the individual wooden case, the straw wrapper and, most unfortunately and maddeningly, the little booklet that comes with it which contains the wine's details. A blend of a number of vintages, but I do not know which; 100% Pinot Noir from Bouzy. From the state of the cork I could tell this was a very recent disgorgement and the indication 5 15 46 on the side of the cork seems to signify that this was Cuvée no. 46 disgorged in May 2015. Rich but lively full yellow colour; rich and deep nose, candied fruit, spices, flowers, almonds, fresh yet quite tertiary (mushroom, truffle) too; rich but quite austere palate consistent with long lees ageing, autolytic (flowers, acacia), fresh and energetic; long and layered finish. At The Old Parsonage Hotel, Oxford, UK.

So good. Hay, lots of mousse. The bread was very blended meaning not too yeasty and not too toasty. It was a delicate balance that they hit just perfectly. Excellent bottle. Liked it much better than the regular NV that I had six months earlier. The 1911 was more memorable.

Oh Yes, what a tremendous difference to a bottle two years ago. Concentrated green ripe apple, brioche, pear and all so young and unevolved with many years to come to reach first maturity. This bottling was degorged on 4.05.2012. The bottle 2 years ago was degorged in 2005 and it was a great experience. So if you want to experience this in a matured style that allows this great champagne to come to his full potential you have to cellar it for 5-6+ years. It is worth it! 93+
As always a phantastic powerful PN from Bouzy, perfect for a whole menu. Crispy, fleshy and fruity. Beside that yeasty, brioche and fresh baken bread. Dominating red ripe apple. Lovely. 92-93, I don't know exactly the vintages but the bottle is at least 5 years in my cellar.

As always one of my favorite champagnes, especially for price quality value. typical BdN, roasted aromas, hazelnuts, bread crust, brioche, toast, complex with deepness, long finish, drank it young, unfortunately i don't know the three vintages in the cuvee. I bought it 5 years ago from Jean Francois
Drank as an apertif in the limo to the venue before the girls got ready (we had a bottle left over so drank it at the beginning of our honeymoon). This is just such a great champagne. Very nice balance between the toast, bubbles, and freshness.

Served as an aperitif before the start of our dinner. Whoa, what an aperitif. Very slight toast and a little brioche on the nose, almost like an old pre-90 DP. This shone on the palate, with a very nice creaminess in the body, plus apples, lemons & a tad of honey too. Finished with good freshness. Great way to start the dinner!

Bottle 524 of the 38th Cuvee Poured a medium dark yellow into burgundy glasses. The nose filled immediately with salted churned butter. a bit of acid in the mouth with some herbal notes, perhaps tarragon. Red apple skins, which I get in most of his wines start to appear, then build on the finish and last indefinitely. Long, gorgeous finish never pushing into butterscotch or caramel covered apple, but hinting in that direction. Really fabulous stuff and terrific with rabbit terrine.
House Party (Chicago, IL): This was much lighter in colour and character than I remembered from the last times I had this wine. Perhaps it was because this bottle was the most recent disgorgement? Still, there's a profound biscuit quality to this wine, and this shows its oxidative qualities (much more clearly than the 2000 Krug we drank alongside). Lovely acidity and intensity. This has got to be one of my favourite "geek" champagnes.
cuvee 40, blend of vintages 2000, 2002 and 2005, disgorged 4 11 2014. Seems a little bit young still, although shows a perfectly balanced acidity and enticing aromatic taste. You feel this is not an usual champagne, that to someone reminds of Jacques Selosse or Jacquesson series 7xx due to the blend of three vintages and being not an usual cuvee. Pure blanc des noirs, nose and taste show some hints of crust of bread with a medium-to-long final. Pleasant minerality. Time will surely improve this Jour de 1911

Bright color with full streams of fine bubbles. Has a rich mousse with bread and some secondary elements of nuttiness like an aged vintage. This is due to the Solera method used for 50% of the blend. This was as good as any vintage champagne from the 90's. This bottle had the other 50% portion based from the '99 era vintage although I don't know the exact years included.

Color golden yellow. Center stream of micro bubbles with sattelite streams of micro bubbles moving rapidly to the surface. Aromas of emanthal cheese maybe but a strong 'sulfur' smell but very nice. Seems to be aged, cream honey, mouth feel full and creamy. Many say green apple on the palate and I would agree 'some' but not allot. I'm impressed with this one but can't put my finger on what exactly I find so facinating with this wine. Good call by my wine guy.

Nose: The nose is deep and powerful with all sorts of brioche, crisco, orange blossoms, red apples, quince, honey tones, and citrus.
Taste: Full bodied and creamy with medium+ acid. There is a richness to this along with a restrained power to the feel along with brioche, orange blossoms, honey tones, and red apples.
Overall: This is a fantastic Champagne. While I would love to know where this would go with age, it's insanely hard to not drink this now.
Intense yellow-green color. Somewhat restrained yet very sophisticated aroma of chopped roasted nuts with honey, some perfumed floral notes and a hint of autolytic brioche. The wine feels quite concentrated, yet only medium-bodied with intense flavors of ripe tart apples, aromatic herbs, chalky minerality, some dark-fruited Pinosity, a little bit of nutty autolysis, a hint of oxidative complexity and even a touch of grip. The mousse is very ample and the bubbles are big, yet it is surprisingly soft and very persistent. The finish is rich and spicy with ripe flavors of ripe citrus fruits and even some lemon marmalade, counterpointed by sharp tones of lemon juice, tart green apples and chalky mineral bitterness. There are also some complex undertones of roasted nuts, some brioche and a hint of almond paste to the aftertaste.
A complex Blanc de Noirs that isn't an overdone blockbuster, yet still capable of offering surprisingly much depth and power. An impressive tour de force with lovely autolytic overtones, yet retaining good freshness, balance and terrific drinkability. Feels a bit overpriced at 61,50€ but an enjoyable effort nevertheless.

Blancs de Noirs Growers Champagne Tasting (Restaurant Carlton, Zürich, Switzerland): Tasted blind: Golden in color. Nose of red berries, caramel, but then I taste some 'gravy' notes in the background. Nicely balanced but on the sweet side. That can be explained by the higher dosage and as I was told the aging in used Sauternes barriques. Overall a good wine but I am just missing the special something.

The half open nose showed golden apple, mixed nuts, and perfume.
Light to medium in viscosity, this shows a bit of softness to the fruit along with medium acids. There's a hint of sweetness to the fruit but it's mostly dry. Drinking well now, but no rush to drink.
Finishes mellow, not very long or intense but its graceful and encourages another sip. Should hold for a decade at least, and perhaps improve with additional bottle age.

Great bubbly. Perfect on a late summer night with the feeling of Fall approaching with its apple-y essence. Solid, sophisticated, full-flavored but balanced juice.

Powerful biscuity nose. Mid straw yellow. Good length. Possibly just trying a touch too hard to taste like Krug and look like Crystal. Nice, and reasonable value - but on level with top marque vintage than premium cuvee. Powerful flavours will be a bit love/hate for some.

Golden yellow colour with fine tiny bubbles. On the nose there's a mellow tone of apples. The palate shows a well-rounded soft taste of yellow apples and apple sauce with a high acidity.

Birthday Grower Bubbles (My place, Chicago IL): Nose: Rich and honeyed nose with balanced and fatter tones of honeycomb, sweet peaches, pears, nectarines, red apples, and some brioche tones. There is good complexity and layering on this, but it does seem to be holding back a slight bit.
Taste: Full bodied with medium+ acidity. There is real good power to the feel with it being on the youthful side as well. Underneath the structure are layered tones of honeycomb, sweet peaches, pears, red apples, and brioche.
Overall: I'm glad I finally got a chance with this. I've been wanting this for several years now and had to spring on a bottle when I saw it available. This is a very young champagne, but it's really damn good right now.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/17/2013-5/18/2013 (Chicago, IL): Golden raisins, apple cider, and sherry-like aromas. The palate is dominated by apple cider and some flavours of shiitake mushrooms. This has very good length and mouthwatering Krug-like acidity.

A nice oxidative touch on the nose. Flavours of mushrooms, golden raisins, and stewed apples on the nose. On the palate, this has a very rich profile with the same stewed apple flavours as well as some notes of yeasty dough. Very strong malic acid tones, to the point of apple cider. Alluring and delicious.

Showing its very best sides tonight with a nose full of creamy baked apples, minerals and light buttered toast. The palate reveals pleasant integration of mousse, acidity and fruit. The balanced palate adds to lovely structure in the wine. Overall impression is that of a fully mature effort, which need a rather powerful dish to show its true potential. This super cuvée lacks all the "flabiness" unfortunately found inte the basic cuvée from this producer.

Coming across as a bit one-dimensional with a rather thin mid-palate and short length on the finish, the cuvée 1911 still provides a pleasurable experience tonight. There is no doubt this effort represents skillful winemaking, but tonight the wine lacks the "oomphf" I remember from the previous tasting. There is a nice overall integration combined with lots of apples and fresh toast. This particular bottle was disgorged September 5, 2011.
(Served at NYE dinner with 2000 Billecart-Salmon cuvée Nicolas Billecart, 1996 Henriot Brut Millésimé, 2000 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, NV Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle and 2002 Bollinger La Grande Année.)

A fruity nose, a nice mousse, slightly creamy, and a nice, rather light, a bit fruity palate. This is for socializing, not for food. No depth or smoke and just with a slight touch of toast. A good champagne, but I find it too expensive at 60 euro. Discorged 02/02/2012.

#828, Cuvée 18. Disgorged 11-01-2010. Golden with gentle bubbles. Opulent nose of apple cider, butter cream, mushrooms. Baked apples, toffee, damp leaves, with enough acidity to keep the richness balanced. Elegant. I'm a BdB fan but this sold me! Is the base 2002?

(Cuveé 28, Dégorg: 02.08.12.) Lys gyllen gul.

Made from only Pinot Noir. Opened bottle straight from an ice cold cooler. Aroma not very yeasty at all. Taste started rich and heavy, then finished with a mineral explosion. Great with chocolate cake once the champagne wasn't quite so cold. My champagne fanatic friend said it is her new favorite. I liked it and respected it, but it did not wow me as much.

A cuvee of 50% 1996, 25% 1995 and 25% 1997. Disgorged 11/2011. This is a very fine Champagne, with beautiful development, perfect dosage and bright acidity. Don't know if its that Pinot in character, more citrus than apples to me. Very good in any case.

A wonderful and very elegant Champagne, the Cuvée 1911 from André Clouet is an astonishing and just as rare Champagne. This bottle was disgorged September 5, 2011 and displays a massive attack of crisp toast, lime zest, deep profound minerals and subtle red berries. The palate is full and lush exhibiting a rather dense and full-bodied profile, despite the wine being a BdB. The length on the finish is superb and lasts for some 50 seconds. There is actually plenty of everything in this wine, except from the low dosage, and my guess is age will do this effort justice.

I was very excited to drink this bottle as my last bottle of Clouet 1911 was excellent. While this was from the same lot as the first bottle (cuvee 24), it seemed to be a bit younger and more tight. In fact, this clearly needed another couple of years in the cellar as it was holding back on lots of the flavors I got in the first bottle. Despite this, it was still a very nice champagne with rich pinot based red apple, creamy citrus, strawberry, raspberry, bread and honey flavors. I could also make out a certain perfumed pinot flavor on the palate that gave this a nice silky texture. This certainly has the potential to add at least another one to two points in the long run.

Roasted pears, fresh white truffles, caramel, apple. Watery gold color, clear. Cloves? Baking spices? More apricot than brioche but with a nice fresh yeasty aroma. Dry. Lovely balanced acidity, long finish of vanilla and pear. Delightful. Unsure of disgorgement. Some seepage around cork but didn't seem to matter. Playful, delicate bubbles.

This was the first Clouet 1911 I have tried and my first Andre Clouet champagne. This was an extremely nice bottle that showed a rich pinot flavor intensity, but did so while remaining light at the same time. There is a deep intensity of flavor with strong red apples, spices, oranges, star fruit, bread, honey, and caramel. It was also held in check with wonderful acidity and had great balance given its power. In a way this has some similarities with a Bollinger Grande Annee, but with slightly more power. Very nice and still very youthful. My bottling was the cuvee 24, which I think was based on the 2002 vintage.

The Tenth Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, ON, Canada): What a way to start a party…this wine had notes of lemon zest, lime, subtle caramel, bread dough and a ever present mineral note that provided a nice backbone to the wine. The palate was lush with similar notes and a nice mixture of autolytic notes and citric fruit. The finish was long and persistent with good complexity. 92+pts

Pale straw with a moderate stream of small, thin bubbles. Aromas of peach skin, maple bacon bars from Voodoo Doughnuts, orange zest, coconut macaroons, challah, caramel apples, vanilla cream soda, aloe and limestone. Flavors on the palate are more pronounced as the wine warms with bright acidity, balanced, low alcohol and a long clean finish. There is a hint of tannins...word on the street is that used Sauternes barrels are used in the elevage....Flavors of ocean floor, lemon meringue, black cap raspberry creme brulee, caramel profiterole, coconut water and more of the vanilla cream soda. Breathtaking.

(Tasted blind) Fairly golden in glass. A lot going on with the nose. Smells a little pruney, darker fruits, apple juice-like smell. Rich, expansive mouthfeel with very fine mousse. Ripe darker fruit. Wonderful fig on attack through finish. Still, solid acid that continues. Polarizing wine, but this is right in my wheelhouse. Made in a very particular style. Wow deliciousness.

Have heard varying reports on this one so perhaps there is some bottle variation, but this particular bottle drank really well once it got a bit of air. Not sure is this is 100% pinot but it certainly seems like it on both the nose and the palate. Looking forward to drinking more of this.

Detailed aroma profile. On the palate fresh acidity with more oxidative flavors, maybe a tad bitter finish.

The wire is all rusty, and there is a sticky substance under the foil in places.

Nose :Not the most pronounced nose, with Almond and methylated spirit (red spirit), eventually some green apple
Palate: almond, plum stone, peach .
Light and quite complex, refreshing, very nice med/high acid, nice spritzy mouthfeel . Small bubbles that stays on the tongue.

Cuvée 78

Nose of red apple, tart tatin, biscuits and yeasty toast. There’s some oxidative notes from the solera but it also has brightness from the more recent 2008 vintage.

Delicious now, and with a structure to hold at this level for another 3-5 years. highly recommended

I originally thought I had opened a basic NV, but was just informed my bottle was the Cuvée 1911. Here's the TN, originally posted as the wrong wine:
Earlier this week, we opened my last NV André Clouet .

"Cette bouteille est la 579 de la cuvée 73... Dégorgée à Bouzy, le 20.09.18."
So they write in the small booklet you get if you buy a bottle.

Dense texture, vibrant bubbles and moderate acidity. It was very shy but after two hours it became a lot more expressive, it was great.

Poured a medium dark yellow into burgundy glasses.

Pol Roger, Krug, Dom, Selosse, Philipponnat, Egly and more (Eleven Madison Park, New York, NY): Not complex, but very nice. Fresh and very effervescent. Interesting, but not in the same "class" as the PR, Philipponnat, Krug, Dom, etc.

Nice smel with ripe apples, toast with flowery end. Nicely acidic with fruity taste as in smell. I really should buy more of this.
