cork in perfect condition. colour is a beautiful ruby red. nose is a knockout, absolute perfection... some lifted red berry fruit with determined dusty, earthy, mushroomy aromas taking center stage, along with light red pepper and floral notes hovering. palate is feminine and light on its feet texturally. it's smooth and delicate with dusty and savoury flavours rolling seamlessly over into a soft mineral finish. wow.

Undoubtedly getting a bit dustier. Still has breathtaking complexity though, with the fading red fruit backed by an endless cornucopia of tertiary flavors, all set against the Margaux violet backdrop.
Fresh and dry and acidic and lovely. Fine tannin, but it's melting away. Faint metallic tinge on the finish.
Drink up.
EDIT- left the remnants in the fridge for a couple of days and if anything it's even better. Actually I probably should have given it more air to start with.
I still think there's no reason to wait to open this, but this isn't a wine which will fall apart once uncorked. Let it unfurl.
Opened alongside 2010 CLG in a new right bank vs old left bank weird combo at a very strange time (see notes on 2010 CLG). Opened with my family as we all gathered at my parent's house for my father's upcoming funeral. The 1978 Margaux showed beautifully once again. Opened up rather quickly but decanted not too long before dinner just to remove the sediment. Another amazing wine that my dad cellared since release. Rest in peace, papa. We love you. Thank you for being an incredible man. I know I will never drink another sip of wine without thinking of you. 96
Color is medium garnet with a pale tawny rim, showing some age but still pretty youthful in appearance. Intoxicating bouquet of tobacco, dried figs, and leather, with a dusting of cocoa powder - not very much fruit left in this. Did not decant, but let stand for 36 hours to allow sediment to settle. On the palate, the wine is much lighter in body than younger Bordeaux but still with a backbone of good acidity. Tannins are all but resolved. Lots of tobacco, leather, and dried leaves, and hints of fig and dried prune. Drink up - it’s on the decline and may only have a few years left to give.

joli nez encore concentré sur le cuir, le sous bois et les fruits noirs, myrtille cassis. le palais est cependant décevant, sans énergie.
