The one with Jean Luc Pepin (Jade Palace) - Comtes Georges de Vogue: Almost as if I got a bit too carried away with the image of the young lady with the Amoureuses, a picture of a burly bodyguard appeared in the form of the Bonnes Mares. Darker fruit in nature with plums, prunes and blueberries coming to the fore transitioning into meat spice, cherry licorice and earth on the palate. There is power and persistence - even bordering on being a little broody but yet showing good concentration, density and freshness. Touch of saline here that I picked up that I thought was interesting.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Very rich for the vintage with mostly black fruit, cherry liqueur and an unexpected mint note. A sweet ripeness made this seem forward, but there firm structure in the very near background, perhaps hidden by the wine's baby fat, that will reward a decade (or three) in the cellar. 92-93 point potential, 2027 forward.

La Paulée 2020 Grand Tasting of 2017 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): The first time I tried this, all I got out of it was a medium weight mouthful of dusty soil. A second bottle showed much more-wintergreen aromas, serious, sappy black fruit in addition to the earth, and steadily building, sneaky tannins that kick in late. It is actually one of the bigger red wines poured today with unusual presence in the mouth. It will require decades of aging to resolve. I'm glad I went back a second time, which left a much more positive impression.
