Black fruited scents, which then shows great concentration but the flavors are tightly coiled, definitely too grippy with oaky tannins, and lacking any refinment. Old school burg, and the new generation in recent vintages making wines in a better way but in this concentrated way. I'll pass on that.

I cannot agree with the poor reviews given to this wine... After a 2+ hour decant, it showed beautifully and kept evolving in the glass and decanter. As usual with wines from Gouges patience is rewarded. This wine will continue improving for another decade but is drinking so well now. Beautiful hue, typical of fairly young NSG. Intense nose covering the full spectrum from Bing cherries, iron, earthy, blackberry and plenty of spice. while the tannins still make their presence felt, they are of excellent quality and support the wine rather than creating astringency. As always, oak and alcohol are not allowed to detract from the wine. It doesn't need it... I hope they don't change their style of wine making.

6th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, mid garnet, brown rimmed; cooked plums, earth some meat and spice, became more interesting after 30 minutes; medium bodied, decent length, less persistence and concentration, lumpy 98 tannins aggressively present against increasingly attractive fruit with insufficient weight to bring wine into proper balance, little upside from here. At best VG (16).

Burgundy & Baseball - Cubs Win the Pennant! (Home): Pop n' pour and slow oxed for 2-3 hours. You know how they say Burgundy is a minefield, well, I hit a mine with this bottle. The nose was quiet and what did come through was unpleasant, hard fruit. The palate followed suit. Really no depth or textural pleasure here as the wine is hard and fruit is unpleasant. Not sure this ever gets better. One bottle left ... let's see if how it turns out in 10 years.

(Gouges Henri Nuits St.Georges Les Vaucrains) This is a step-up from Gouges' villages Nuits. Darker in colour with with blacker fruit on the nose. Good intensity and length, again very smooth tannins. Fresh and pretty interesting. This is a nice wine.

Wines While Watching the Cubs Win the Pennant (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Black fruit with some rough edges. Tasted three times in the evening, with more structure and less fruit coming across as the evening progressed. Not a personal favorite of mine tonight.
