In this particular case, I even had the advantage of un-blind tasting the bottle before hand because the Somm was concerned that the bottle was incorrect either heat damaged or corked. We thought it was sound and put in the line up of blind tasting grand cru burg against 1970s to 2000s clos lambray and bonne mares. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

4/18/2014 - Paul S wrote: 92 pointsBirthday Dinner 2014 (Saint Pierre, Quayside Isle): After a whole lot of 2004 wines that were devoid of green meanies, this wine gave an almost comfortable familiarity when served blind. Quite a few of us picked up the vintage almost immediately. It certainly hadn't lost any of the green from the bottle we drank two years ago. The nose was full of slightly sweet boiled Chinese herb aromas – angelica root, dried wolfberries, even a touch of ginseng, alongside more standard Morey shades of blueberries and dried flowers on a bed of damp soil. It was certainly a bit green, but I would say this was pleasantly so, rather than being completely distracting. The palate had a certain finesse that belied the vintage, with bright, citrussy acidity and fine tannins giving shape to deep, weighty notes of blueberries and darker black cherries. There was a nice sense of purity to it all, again something one does not always get in 2004. The wine then wound its way into a full back-palate, with earth and meat and a ring of spice and florals and just that menthol-like green note making up a long, satisfying finish. A little grip of fine tannins right at the end showed the relatively youth of the wine. Otherwise, this was actually drinking quite well. It should go on developing nicely in the near future as well. Not a knockout Clos de Tart, but certainly a nice wine - if you do not mind a bit of green meanies that is. |

9/19/2014 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRChicago: wine, food, friends...cigars!; 9/17/2014-9/20/2014 (Blackbird, Les Nomades, Naha, with lunch at Shaw's Crab House): {en magnum} Served side-by-side with the 2001, this was the more available of the two; color was virtually the same. Richly textured, but heavily perfumed, too, with less of a chewy body than I was expecting (for that matter, more acidity than I was expecting, as well). While not quite as interesting on the nose/palate as the '01, it's not far behind, but moreover, it's a joy to drink at the moment, given proper aeration, of course. Notes of black tea, and freshly picked cherries keep this lively. This will likely add complexity and length in the coming years. So glad it wasn't shut down, or worse. recommended |

All in all, it smells like mature Burgundy with secondary nuances. Relatively savory and complex on the palate as well, with medium body, a lightly earthy base, and discretely ripe dark red fruit and herbs. A 1996 that is not dominated by acidity, nor is it terribly tannic at this point either. Probably at or very close to its peak. This wine has been bashed in some places. No, it is not a spectacular, top tier Grand Cru and perhaps it is a bit muddled, but both times I've had it, it has been nothing short of excellent. In my opinion, it deserves a bit more love than it gets. |

Right now, as you'd expect this is still very tightly wound, relatively closed and years from its true drinking window. If you own 3 or less of these don't touch them until 2020+. I think this will truly be rocking around 2025-2030. Right now can't say it delivers much pleasure. The oak is in good check but the structure is out in front of the fruit and much is hidden at this point. I hoping someone pours me some of this in 2020 though! I heard it had been decanted for a couple hours too. With much more time, this could reach Burgundy perfection as you sense its power and depth. |

As expected, this keeps it closer to the vest, with abundant fruit, racy acids and seamless structure. The '03, just as pretty, but so much more approachable now. I took my time with these two wines, for good reason - even though three more (different) mags hung in the balance. Yes, we basically closed the place. Slow-O 2 hours, aerated to decanter and then returned to bottle for service. Thru 2040, highly recommended |

Obviously needs a lot more time. Is it going to be a great tart? I doubt. But it will probably improve with aging. Based on this btl, i wont touch it in the next 4-5 yrs. |

11/4/2016 - Musigny1955 Likes this wine: 95 points{Confrerie de Tastevin de Bourgogne - Chapitre de Massachusetts dinner} Knockout, ravishing nose - just brilliant and seductive and gorgeous - followed by middle-plus weight, complex, elegant, spicy, red fruit/cherry > black 'pinote' flavors, some coffee and mocha, with great length. Spectacularly beautiful. Superb balance. This is why one cellars wine, and especially why one cellars Grand Cru Burgundy. Wow. I may be under-marking this wine; first time have had this vintage. Another reminder of how good the 2001 vintage can be. |

11/7/2020 - tbabes wrote: 95 pointsStill with a deep purple core, turning towards garnet at the rim. An extroverted and rather exotic bouquet, with scents of black cherry, ripe raspberry, baking spices and hints of earth. Full bodied, with a lush and opulent texture, great concentration, layers of flavor, and a heady and very long finish. Obviously made during a hot year, with a very ripe and new world personality, but with the ability to age that only Pinot noir from a grand cru vineyard in burgundy can offer. |

Medium weight with an exhilarating, enveloping feel. Sweet, ripe red and blue fruit, a light touch of wood, light char (less than the 2015), terrific acidity, and here, an uplifting dollop of green from the whole cluster. Incredible balance, texture, and finish. Absolutely superb wine that is already exciting. Unlimited potential development over the next 15-20 years. This is a strikingly finer, lighter style than Clos de Tart wines from the late 1990's and early 2000's. |

4/7/2012 - Paul S wrote: 93 pointsMy Birthday Celebration (Kingyo, Marina Square): Very nice. This was a good way to end the evening. After a string of 2004s that were entirely devoid of green meanies, this was a bit more obvious, with some clearly stemmy notes and hints of Chinese herb drifting in and out of an otherwise classic Clos de Tart nose with its dark cherry and cranberry aromas wed to deeper, more savoury notes of meat and earth. I must say though that the greenness was of a level where it added to the wine's sense of character and complexity rather than distracting the drinker. It was there, but certainly in the background rather than at the fore. Another good sign for the vintage perhaps. However, while the nose was a bit controversial, the palate was clearly very good. It had a nice dose of fresh, lively acidity that lent a lovely sense of defintion to deep flavours of black cherries and berries on the attack. These were lined with sweet spices and more meaty, earthy notes on the midpalate. Pretty solid stuff, if a bit primary at the moment. It had nice finish too, with just a twist of herbs finding their way into the meaty nuances at the back-palate. Rather too young I think, but there was certainly no harm in drinking it on the night after it had sat for several hours in an open bottle. I actually was surprised to see how open this was for a young Clos de Tart. Still though, this is a bottle that will definitely benefit from another 3 to 5 years in the cellar. |

7/5/2015 - drwine2001 wrote: NRMedium ruby throughout, quite primary looking. First impression was tangy red fruit subsequently complemented by wonderful spiciness and a touch of wintergreen. Big wine for Burgundy with a strong underpinning of oak which does not interfere with the flavors. Dark red fruit, spice as noted on the nose, good acidity, and ripe tannins still to be incorporated. Very good but still somewhat blockish and foursquare. Well constituted but not destined to be a wine of grace or tremendous finesse. That said, I am confident that it will continue to improve. |

Smoke, savoury red fruit and plums shine on the bouquet with deep ripe fruit (think maraschino cherries), smoke and mulberry jam. Mid-palate showed power and complexity with plenty of fruit concentration. Fantastic structure and acidity here that I find typical of 1996. Drinking fabulously today. |
