My last bottle, and, in this case, the best was saved for last. This was a PnP. Once it took on some air, the fruit (a lovely blend of red and dark fruit) came to the fore, along with an almost Burgundian-style hint of sweetness. All else was consistent with my previous experiences with this wine. It was enjoyed by all.

Garnet, but still with a bit of a purple hue. Low intensity, but complex nose with espresso, sweet cherries in addition dark fruits and forest floor on the palate. This is very smooth now, and from my warmer than textbook cellar behind its optimal drinking window. On the palate it still shows nice concentration of flavors, but it is on its way down now from my cellar. Textbook stored bottles should hold through some more years. Nevertheless this is quite sexy now with its elegant and smooth style. 5/11/15/6, 87, -now or -2025+ if stored in a cool cellar (54° F) since release. I don' rate this, since it is not the wine fault, that I have aged it too long for some years.

Ruby to garnet in the glass, hints of age toward the rim. Moderately intense aromas of warm cherries, potpourri, leather, light mushroom, on the palate additional flavors of licorice, black tea, dried figs and cigar were discernible. The wine is still quite fresh tasting overall, the finish is long though slightly bitter. 70% grenache, 30% syrah.
Year in and year out this Southern Rhone wine is lauded by critics and touted as an amazing value. It is widely available and usually found in the $15-20 range. I’m pretty impressed that it tasted so fresh and alive with about 10 years of age.

Intense notes of coffee, herbs and red fruits. On the palate much more civilized and balanced than previous bottles. Spices and herbs as well. This has a decade or more of positive evolution and is ready to be consumed now. Complex, well balanced and living up to my expectations now. Though the 94 points from parker are still scored to high in my opinion the average score of the community is to low, I guess. On the palate with air it shows great complexity and surprising quality. 5/12/17/9. Great and worth the time and for sure the money.

It has been almost a year since the last bottle. Still drinking nicely, but no reason to either rush or wait on this wine. Certainly ready to drink now, but will hold for at least several more years, in my opinion.

A brilliant ruby garnet in the glass, the ample nose features cherry pit, red alpine currant, slate, herbs de Provence, and a touch of mint. Very juicy palate entry with blackberry, black currant, red alpine currant, herbs, slate, white pepper and a touch of mint. Nearly weightless, but with a long finish. This medium-bodied red is really nice and could pair with many different food styles. Two bottles remaining.

This has always been a very enjoyable bottle of wine - smooth, balanced, mouth-coating, good spice and earthiness (on the nose and the palate)with a nice finish. One more bottle to go!

Pnp. This is the last bottle of a case bought years ago and it just keeps getting better. Dark purple, intense nose and black fruit. Supple, balanced with a long finish. Excellent QPR. It has been a joy to drink all along.

Appearance: clear dark ruby, fast/thin/long legs, very small amount of sediment. Nose: tart red fruits, cranberry, cherry and pomegranate. Taste: Subdued mature red cherry, tart strawberry and tea. Medium body, medium/low acidity, medium length of finish.
This needed to breathe for an hour or two (minimum) with a decant before it started to gel, so I recommend the same, maybe three hours. It feels young and in need of a little sleep. If I had a bottle to hold onto I would plan on 2021. Nothing in it says "too old" nor "in stride", so I have to think waiting should help more. But there is an excellent wine waiting to blossom in other future bottles, but a 94 would be a max... if not 93. But for now I feel 91-92 is its current showing.

I have to hand it to Parker for seeing this as such a good wine from the get-go. Earlier bottles felt backward and uninspired, but this has evolved into something rich, complex and attractive.

Dark red in color. Strong notes of forest floor, smoky reddish black berries, pepper and tree bark. Medium bodied palate shows sweet and slightly bitter black cherries, pepper, licorice, no evidence of tannins or wood, and a strong earthy finish.

Purple. After one week from the opened bottle it is still powerful, extracted, fruity with abundant tannin and acid and still very young. -2020+ Will it ever turn in a less masculin, more elegant and complex style? If it does one day, it may deserves the 94 points once given by R. Parker himself. 90+

After seeing the huge variation in scores on this wine, I have to wonder if we're drinking the same thing. I originally felt there was some good potential here, especially for the price. I've been stealing a sip here and there as I used this wine over the years for braising short ribs or making Boeuf Bourguignon. It never disappointed. Now, with only six bottles left out of two cases, I've begun drinking it and am stunned by some of the really low scores. I'm not going to inflate the score simply because it was cheap and tastes great, I'm scoring it for what I believe it is: a really nice bottle of wine. It has toned down bit by bit over the years and now seems to be at its best. I think an end date of 2016 is a bit short, so I'll open my remaining bottles every couple of months and report back. Tonight we'll have the half bottle left from last night, with salmon and green beans.
Definitely peaking at this stage. Nice fresh dark fruits with good acidity and balanced mild tannins on day 1. What a difference a few years made on this wine. My first bottle was horrific. See prior notes, but over time it has improved. Actually quite good with or without food. Day 2 not as good and finishing tannins were not quite as integrated. Give a 90 on day 1 and 88 on day two with an average of 89.

Kept under condition 2 since the second half of 2011 or the first half of 2012. Color: dark purple. Nose: rich and quite refined, dominated by mature sous-bois and sweet fruit (blackberry, cherry, red berries). The nose came back in the taste, with garrigue, quite fine herbs and quite good fruit. Quite rich, quite delicious. The alcohol was 14%, not really disturbing, but less would have made the wine more attractive to me. (At the second day with sausages it was to dominant, unfortunately.) Altogether an unexpectedly good wine for the price (8 Euro). (87-)88.

Day 1: Not quite as together as previous bottles. Barnyard funk was very intense and did not dissipate as rapidly as I would have expected. Still it is an enjoyable drinker with a 15 - 20 second finish. It feels like it is beginning to show its age in a negative way. (89)
Day 3: Wow!! Really evolved and smoothed out. 30+ second finish and tasted like a CDP. (92)

Even better still compared to previous bottles. I'm starting to see how Parker somehow rated this 94pts. It's initial firmness has faded to reveal some lovely, caressing fruit. Medium-bodied. Pretty delightful to drink now.

Monthly Tuesday group #010: Southern Rhône excluding C9duP. (By JdB): In the bouquet cherries and raspberries, garrigue, licorice and some graphite. On the palate red and dark berries, herbs, flowers, laurel, nicely dry with good acidity and mild tannin. Elegant wine with not an extreme length.

This has really come into its own. Drinking well now and anyone who waited will be glad they did. Still lots of young fruit but shows some depth and complexity. Purple/ruby in color. The nose has black raspberries, black olives and cherries. A hint of crushed leaves as well. On the palate, there is more black raspberries and cherries. The crushed leaves alternate with the fruit. Not mind boggling but really good and well worth the $15 or so dollars it cost on release. Still time left but probably close to peak.

This is an 88-89 points. Great for the price, it's a little rough still even at this age. I'm not sure it'll ever really sit down. Huge fruit that's not really integrated with a strong tannic structure even yet amid crushed pepper, HdP, and a little green botanicals that fight to emerge past the dark and almost sappy fruit in the late body. I think this wine ages past this year, I'm giving it until 2017. Good QPR

Well, first I have to excuse myself for the fact, that i called it ridiculous to give this wine less than 90 points 5 years ago. It hasn't developed in a positive way over the last 5 years. The acidity is more pronounced and the tannins are still very present. It has more of a younger Beaujolais right now. I don't believe in positiv evolution. The Côtes du Rhones of Guigal e. g. are more pleasurable from the start. 87
One day later it has benefited and ad a little bit power and seemed more balanced.

A very decent everyday table wine which is ready right now at it's 5 year birthday. Drank well out of the bottle. Composite cork and dirty purple in color. The presence of Syrah toned down the brightness of the ganache and made it both hard to tell which was the more dominant; in other words a nice blend. Had with steak and was sufficiently strong to cleanse the palate of grease. Fruit dominant wine and about medium bodied. This is ready now and among the better values for a good everyday table wine not just in price but in quality.

Put this up against an Hortus (Pic St Loup) and this wine crushed it. I didn't get too much jam or sun ripening...yes, this a fully extracted wine...but there is balance.

Purple with hints of blue in color, this wine shows intense aromas of blackberry fruits, kirsch, blueberry and black licorice. The mouth feel brought juicy, sweet tannins along with spices and anise elements. The finish is still somewhat tight with the black fruits coming out only at the end of a 30 minute decant.
Enjoyed at La Pergola BYOB in Millburn, NJ with my boss (who brought this bottle). It's just beginning to hit it prime drinking window. Decanting still recommended to help alleviate the tightness in the finish.
Imported by European Cellars, LLC, Charlotte, NC.

Decanted for an hour. Limited evolution. The Grenache is obvious in the rasberry / kirsch / liquorice nose; the palate is fresh with very noticeable minerality. The wine does carry a bit of heat on the finish. Fine for a BBQ but not impressive in the round. **(1/2)

To be fair, this wine was coravined about three months ago, but I get big jammy fruits with some black pepper that builds throughout the body, as does the sensation of alcohol that lingers and almost feels like camphor through the nose. What to do with this wine??? It's a pretty good Tuesday night wine but will be well served to those who enjoy big fruit forward wines with overt spices and herbs. To its credit this wine has layers and finishes for nearly a minute, but the balance is off.

Coravin to see how the wine was aging. Clearly or drink for at least two more years, and this is a great wine to serve for wine drinkers and non-wine drinkers alike. The Grenache is pronounced but the syrah adds depth of character. There is some deep fruit in the wine with stone and even tar.

Actually this bottle was decent. Tannins were restrained, fruit was more balanced with traces of earth, tobacco and mushroom. Not a bad drinker at this stage. The bottle I had in January may have just been a bit off. Shared with friends who also thought it was a decent wine. Becoming a good daily drinker but not overly exceptional.

Very pretty dark red in the glass. Light earthiness on the nose with a faint alcohol scent along with a bit of mushroom. Raspberry on the palate with a lingering sweetness on the finish. Some nice acid at end along with an almost red licorice lingering note. Had this wine a year ago and it was not as round - enjoying it more now. Bet it will evolve even further.

Completely consistent with past notes. Poured into a Pinot glass and drank it up. Great notes of pepper, rich earth, and tarragon and herbes de Provence. More integrated now than it was.

Color is a medium bluish plum color. Nose was a heavy dusty and fruity syrah nose....how that came so predominate with 30% is a mystery to me. The taste is all about heavy dark fruit, not much complexity but a very nice dry and light tannic finish. The wine was good but some sips seemed to be disconnected while others times seemed more in balance

Southern Rhone (Value wines from 2010, but not CdP) (Jeff K's): Always a great QPR and 2010 is no exception. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has a bit of funk on it. Black olives. Black raspberries. On the palate, despite it being a bit thinner than the rest, it has a lovely texture. Black raspberry fruit. Long finish. This sells for under $20.

I have no idea what Parker is talking about, this is not a 91 point wine. Barnyard and mushroom on the nose, some over-ripe strawberry. Balance is decent, and not bad on the palate. I think there are much better wines sub $20 that are better.

Finally coming around. Aerated and decanted, still a lot of chewy and very dry tannins first half hour that softened some and became more balanced over the next hour. On the 2nd and 3rd hour, was actually enjoyable with food. Some sour cherry, spice and heat evident on the finish. Medium to full bodied. Not as delicate as the 2006, more like an unrefined bigger brother. I can see it improving some more over the next two years.

- Aromas of raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and black currant. It's overly tannic with a medium/full body. Coarse texture with a medium finish - I am rating this one mostly on the promise. At the moment it is closed and unbalanced. I believe this one in 4-5 yrs. can be something truly special. I will try again later this year to see how it develops.

This is a difficult bottle to taste at this young stage, at first I though that it was highly unbalanced, with too many aromas of licorice and garrigue that it would never come into balance, but after tasting over two days I've realized that this is a pretty great bottle of wine. Only problem is, it's very, very young. Put the price point out of your head and hang on to this one for a couple of years, it's going to an amazingly comples Rhône styled blend.

This is consistent with other bottles. Nice pepper, tobacco leaf, spice and berry smells and tastes. 20 second finish. It tastes like a sun-speckled day in the dry heat of Provence.
I believe I have always finished the bottle in one sitting. It tastes so good. Some have criticized RP's high score (94? I think) on this. I believe it warrants a high score. This is consistently an excellent wine from bottle to bottle.

Donker robijnrood.

A bit of a disappointment, given the hype. Sharp cranberry and raspberry fruit; angular with higher acids than appropriate for the level of fruit contained. A bit of spritz was noticed. This did improve on the second day, but for me, better Rhone values are out there.

Forest floor, earth, cooked dark fruit in the nose. Refreshing, bright palate with currant, and cherry. Atypical mouth feel - very smooth with very mild tannins, reminded us of a low-end California Pinot Noir, even though the flavors were completely different. Very pleasant weeknight quaffer. Very young yet, though probably not destined to last more than 2-3 years.

Nose of stewed red fruits and forest floor. Palate is far more exciting, with notes of dark fruits, baking chocolate, and clove. Immediately out of the glass there was a opulent black cherry, cedar, dried tobacco, charcoal, cracked black pepper and a good dose of garrigue. Acidity was bright without being too tart. Tannins were delicate and integrated well. I think this one is underrated on CT. Amazing QPR.

Appealing for its straightforward fruit and supporting black pepper notes which taste and smell to be straight outta Rhone to me. Smokey cigar box and bramble berry. A taste of the region for south of $15. I'm a fan. 89 points not taking into consideration the price - so I say this is a good value.

Don't understand the WA rating. The wine is a disappointment with the WA rating as the expectation. Clarity of flavor along the lies of a villages cote du rhone, but lacks the softness of that wine. Perhaps a bit more acidic than a Cotes du Rhone, more like a village appellation of Beaujolais. Still pleasant to drink and better Cotes du Rhones cost just as much.

Pop-n-Pour. Dark ruby red. Tight on the nose, but hint of vanilla, cedar, red cherry, blackberry and some bramble. Great acid, light tannins, balanced alcohol and moderate finish. Lots of sour red cherry with tart blackberry, pepper, and cedar. Feels like this would open up and get a bit more rounded with more air, but the tax man is on the way and I can't wait.

Got triggered to buy this wine by the enormous score uncle Bob granted this Rhone and in combination with a special offer of 8euros per bottle it seemed almost to good to be true. Popped and poured. Dark fruit with a dominant taste of laurel and a nice balanced acidity which makes the wine very juicy. The day after the wine opened up even further with less dominant laurel and more fruit. Excellent cotes du Ventoux with some future potential but i am wondering what Parker was high on when he rated this wine. In no way the complexity or density or aftertase of this wine reflects the label "outstanding". Still recommendable for this pricerange!

Very dark red color. Pop and pour. Drank 2 glasses over 2 days, improved mildy over 2 days. The nose is nice with ripe red fruits of raspberry and cherry, dry herbs, and hints of a green element. The palate is where this disappoints for me. I didn't expect anywhere near a 94pt wine per RP, but I figured it would e around 90 anyway. Not so for me. I found this to have a green, herbal quality that distracted from the well concentrated ripe red fruits. There is a strong streal of pepper that my wife didn't care for either. While this is very drinkable with food, it is not my cup of tea. Reminded me of a Carmenere, and that is rarely a good thing to me. Would not buy again even at this price point.

Costco liquor store had it rated at 92; for just $12, I wasn't expecting 92, so 89-90 is not disappointing. Smelled hot on opening, ran it through the soiree to aerate; still needed a few more minutes to settle into a nice, smooth, fruity (but not bomby), very drinkable treat. Could be a good everyday wine; might be great in a few years.

A bit disappointing ... I expected a bit more from a bottle rated at 94. Upon opening hints of barn yard and earth on the nose, but good on the palate. But after being open for a 30 minutes or more the barn yard goes away and it becomes a very good bottle.

Although the WA rating is inflated, I can see why it got RP´s attention. Beautiful pure fruit that has some remarkable concentration for the price and pedigree. Aromatic bouquet of vivid fruit- wild raspberry and black cherry, blackberry (again on the wild brambly side), some black tea and violet. Also some black pepper and a subtle level of earth. Medium bodied, with good acidity and some slight tannins, not much. But here, this wine is all about the fruit. And while some of the fruit notes showcases the syrah, the body and delicacy is all grenache. Drink now or the next few years, depending on how you like your fruitier Rhones. For my part, I say open now, aerate 30 min to an hour and enjoy.

So this is good, but I wondered about some high scores it received. Actually, I tend to buy this in every vintage and this is as good as any. Needs some time, but some nice raspberries, cherries and sandalwood on the nose. Lots of acidity (more than expected) on the palate. Nice fruit. certainly will last for a few more years. For $13 nothing to complain about at all. To quote Joe Walsh, I can't complain but some times I still do.

Like my first bottle last month, this is fairly tannic and not in balance (at least not yet). It also seemed to have elevated acidity in a way that is uncharacteristic for this cuvee, which I've had 6 other vintages. I'm not sure this will become as enjoyable as I'd hoped but I have 10 more to find out. Right now, I'd happily trade it for any other vintage of this I've tasted.

The structure and focus on this wine is incredible for $11. I opened the bottle in the afternoon to give it some time to breath (based on some reviews on here), but had a taste before I put it down. Immediately I noticed some really pure fruit, a wonderful floral nose, and just a lazer-like focus. About 7 hours later, finally got around to drinking it with some braised short-ribs. Again, what struck me immediately was how well made the wine was. At about 8 hours of being open, this bottle exploded with flavor. in addition to the delicious red fruits and flowers, I got a nice baking chocolate and slight espresso component. 90+ now. Could easily be 92-93 in a few years.

Aeratedinto decanter and drank with pizza. On nose, primarily raspberry and some sage. On palate, red fruit driven, light+ to medium body. Nice acidic structure and with airtime the finish lengthens. Tasted blind I would swear this was young cru Beaujolais (maybe a Morgon?). Very easy to drink and acidic structure is food friendly (+). Don't get "94" rating like prior taster but in this wine's defense its very young. Will retaste tomorrow. High 80s tonight.

Very young. Tannic and missing the beautiful forward fruit of the last several vintages (and I've had all of them since the '04). I'm hoping this will evolve nicely with 6-12 months in the cellar. We'll see...

Beautiful ruby color. nose: Definitely Grenache with notes of burnt rubber, spice and light cranberry. Palate: Light cranberry, rubber and faint spice. Really not that much there. Finish: Very smooth of the aforementioned items, but a bit short with minimal complexity. It gets an 88 based on how well made and smooth it is, but devoid of any complexity. Too much out there in this range for me, so not a re-buy. Way too light in body and complexity to be a Châteauneuf du Pape, but maybe a decent CdR.

Still young, a bit harsh on the finish. I didn't catch the heat or strong tannin others experienced. Sweet cherries, nice acidity, lighter body than I expected, pleasant finish. Its raw youth suggests waiting a while to try it again, but I suspect this wine will work well in a braise for beef short ribs, so that's where the next bottle will go...after I sneak a taste. Overall, not a 94 but a very nice wine for everyday consumption. No complaints from me at this price point.

So the infamous 94RP bargain. Indeed this has some depth beyond your usual Cotes du Ventoux, and I agree with RP that there is something standing out on this wine. On the nose it presents scents of flowers, sweet cherries, melted butter, coffee grounds, black tea and English liqourice. Plenty of stuffing on the palate but needs a bit of air to let loose on the quite noticeable tannins. Still great flavour range and a long aftertaste. Tasted twice. Definitely on the young side. I can see why RP likes this wine and if you follow his tastes religiously this is definitely your house wine. Final rating climbs to no more than 90 for me though as it stands now.

Ruby color. Nose of vanilla, rose petals, rhubarb, berries. Palate is all about grenache, esp. rhubarb, rose petals. This is not a wine to remember, there are lots of wines that are much better and more memorable. But at this price, this is an excellent wine; if I were to factor in price, I might go to 90+. If you are not a grenache fan, this is not your wine. But I can enjoy this any day.

Nose at first with something stony, then something floral mixed with a bit of vanilla and finally unripe black currant and rhubarbs. The berry / floral character carries through on the palate. Very nice tannin / acid structure.
Surprisingly nice wine for the price! (70 DKR)
PS: Changed the score from 88 to 89 and am inclinded to make it 90+, but since it lacks a bit depth on the palate I will let it stay at 89. The nose taken by itself is certainly the 94 points worth, that Parker gave it.

I admit, i bought this wine because of its unbelievable notes from R. Parker. And when i first pulled the cork and immediately pour the wine into the glas and smell and take the first sip I wasn't sure (and i'm not at this moment) if the 94 points were adequat. But I'm sure that anything less than 90 points is ridiculous. At first it seemed to me full of elegance and poise but lacking the vigor I expect from a wine with 94 Points given by Parker. I drank only one or two glasses and the next day this wine provided much more depth and power. For me it is indeed towering over every wine in the world in this price range. Perhaps the 92 points I give are due to the fact that I cannot believe in this quality for 8,5 €. Who in the world will be bold enough to give 94 points for such a wine that is low priced and available in good quantities when Parker has given up?

Purchased for $13. Very disappointed in this... and a perfect example of why I can't rely on RP. Thin, tart red fruit flavors that lost a touch of the tartness with some air. Tannic, dry and hot. Def needs time. But still not sure how this gets a 94. Time isn't going to work a miracle on this. Good

The 2010 offers a mix of fresh blackberry, cherry, mineral, floral, licorice and some pepper. What I love about this wine is the fresh mineral that runs through it from start to finish. Really fresh and silky. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. (Drink 2011 - 2014) - JD

Beautiful redish/bluish purple in color. Fantastic nose of ripe blueberries, cherries and blackberries. On the palate this wine is a tad hot, with stiff tannins on a long crisp finish. Too young right now, but has excellent potential. Really good grip on this wine. I too, as others have noted, do not understand the RP 94 rating. It must be all on the aromatics of this wine, which I admit are stunning and are the reason for my high score.

Still young, tart, red cherries. Spicy, dry with some tannins and hot alcohol on the finish. Not balanced. Not ready, needs more time. OK for those who like sour cherries with a hot finish. Can't fathom how RP rated this a 94 - he must know something that I certainly haven't been able to pick up as yet. The 2006 was simple, lighter but quite good - like an 88 or 89. On the 2010, left some in the bottle for a few days - on day 4 had a half glass left. Found it to be more balanced and the hot finish was no longer evident yet still had some spice. Would rate it an 87-88. So I suspect this will improve with time, maybe by 2014 .

New world. Bright fresh red rainier cherries, hint of spiciness. Nice for folks that prefer more fruit over spiciness in their Rhones. Different if you are used to the old world type Rhones - but pleasant.

Superbe rapport qualité-prix.

Drank over 3 days. First two were ok, 3rd day not as good. Similar to last note, but less heat, however profile not very exciting. Very somber with dry chewy tannins. Lots of tobacco leaf taste. Not sure if it will get better. How in the world did the pro-reviewers rate this above a 90?

Completely consistent with past notes. Poured into a Pinot glass and drank it up. Great notes of pepper, rich earth, and tarragon and herbes de Provence. More integrated now than it was.
I love this wine with pizza, with strong cheese, with braised ribs. I think it is better than many CdP's I have had.

Deep purple in color. Lovely notes of blackberries, black olives, pepper and graphite. A full bodied palate reveals tons of jammy black fruits, charcoal and a strong note of pepper on the finish. This is indeed a lovely wine for the price.

I believe I have always finished the bottle in one sitting. It tastes so good. Some have criticized RP's high score (94? I think) on this. I believe it warrants a high score. This is consistently an excellent wine from bottle to bottle.

Would not buy again even at this price point.

no, no way, but it is a nice glass of cotes du ventoux, good expression for its appellation; went well with the pasta. enjoyable and pleasurable, nice bottle.

Still coming together but really good right now .. another 6 months to a year this should definitely climb into the 90 range. Good complex red fruits and spice with really good structure .. balance just needs to come together some more.

A very good edition of this wine. It has a floral nose and a beautiful dark fruit color but is a bit tannic and acidic at this point. There is plenty of fruit for when this settles down and after some time in bottle it should blossom nicely.
