Fully mature with a flavour of sour green plums sweetened with a drizzle of honey and caramel and seasoned with vanilla. It still has a lively acidity but this is softened by a rich coating of butter. Very complex, it simply opens up, yielding more with every mouthful, to the extent I was tasting a coating of dark chocolate on a lengthy satisfying finish. Very fine indeed and in much better condition than I had anticipated. CHP 94 pts

Drinking nicely. Slightly sweeter than I would like which I found overpowered the more savoury brioche and mineral notes. Overall it just didn’t quite seem in balance to me. Maybe down to personal preference however, if you like your champagne on the sweeter side I expect you’d love this. I feel like I might actually have preferred it in a more youthful phase, where the acidity could have counteracted the sugar. The sweetness does open it up to being more of a crowd pleaser however, I would happily serve this at a gathering and expect most people would like it.

Better than at release with some maturity now showing. Still quite a lot of autolytic/yeast notes in the nose, alongside ripe apples, a hint of peach and fresh butter. On the palate more rounded with medium amount of fine mousse and medium acids, yellow fruit (apples, clemetine, peach, plum) and slightly smoky minerals. Well balanced, fairly elegant, if perhaps a bit sweet at times. Nice wine, deliver well but does not overachive.

Roederer is consistently on top in an elegant Champagne style, and the vintage in a top notch year is no exception. The color has gained some age and appears light golden. The bubbles are fine, as always, and very persistent in the glass. Elegant nose with fine mature notes of honey, as well as classic notes of newly baked bread, baked apples and a stingy, citrusy tone. Full bodied attack, lots of sweet apple fruit up front. Then the bubbles and acidity kicks in, cleansing the palate and giving way to cleaner citrus and green apple tones. Beautiful. The fruit is very persistent, the finish complements with some salty and mineral tones. Astonishing concentration and length. We were two on this bottle, and it really took a long time to finish (and we are no novices). A wine that really would shine with some great seafood like scallops, lobster or sea urchins. Now I'm getting hungry again... Drink now or keep for the next decade. This will last.

Quite still youthful, it is more of a Noir than a Blanc or a champagne! Earthy, powerful, austere, plenty of fruit with a hint of toast and fresh, it ticks all the boxes. It is very much a thinking person's champagne so I would suggest having it with food rather than an aperitif drink. Had it with a Salad Nicoise and it was a great match.

More mineral than fruity this had characters of yeasty breadcrumbs enriched with butter and cream and a sprinkling of nuts. The acidity was firm but not overly so, allowing a sweetness to pervade the palate. Complex, with a long finish, this is drinking well. CHP 93 pts

(Disgorged in May 2014, but stored in house cellars until 2021, 61% Pinot Noir from Verzy and 39% Chardonnay from Chouilly, dosage 9 gr/L) Still a light yellow colour with an almost greenish hue and showing fine streams of bubbles in the glass. Incipient maturity on the youthful nose showing lime citrus, minerals and a pleasant nuttiness as well. Intense citrus acidity on the youthful palate with a pleasant cream and chalkiness combining the mid palate before a delicious lime zesty bitterness on the intense and lengthy finish and showing a saltiness on the lips. This has evolved in a delicious way with extra time in perfect condition in Louis Roederers cold cellars and is drinking beautifully right now. (Best 2018-2038)

Straw coloured and a tight nose of minerals, citrus, sweet notes, apples, breads and yeast - quite vinous very promising.
On the palate - a nice mousse and manages to be both intense and light as a feather. Rich, elegant and moreish, The wine still lot lots of structure suggesting in still has many years ahead.
This is vey good - and may get better - a good Q/P ratio- will probably buy more. Recommend.

Warning - last year this wine was wonderful, but 4 bottles opened recently were sadly in different levels of decay, with more or less dried up corks. They were all of the same batch, stored in a climate controlled wine cellar.

Really good, super balanced and suave, offering nutty aromas of lemon, pastry, cherry, and a particularly distinct and lovely note of marzipan. It's super big, focused, and expansive in the mouth, energetic, and replete with chalky flavors of citrus, toffee, and apple on the finish. It's great now though will likely develop further complexity in the coming years.

This producer is a guarantee for high quality in all segments: standard brut, vintage and - of course - Cristal. This vintage is just wonderful. Deep straw colour, fine and persistent bubbles. Nose is dominated by citrus, orange peel, honey (becomes more and more evident over time), and a chalky tone. medium to full bodied, but always on the elegant side: lime, lemon, green apples and honey in a long and fresh aftertaste. At the end the chalky tone from the nose reemerges. Long. Perhaps a tad too sweet, but that is just a detail in a wonderful totality. Perfect now, but will probably become more honied with some more years in the cellar. Perfect with boiled lobster.

Not at all as evolved as I thought it would be and frankly hoped it would be. Red currant, lemon, a little fudge and brioche. A bit bitterly autolytic, very high acidity. Could probably easily do with 5-10 years more of bottle age.

Gently oxidative style. Hard to notice oak. Pinot Noir dominant. Baguette. Bright fruit. Complete wine. Love this style! 70/30 PN/Ch Bottled in 2009 Disgorged in 2015.
This bottle was a bit advanced - storage? Still showed its pedigree, but the fruit had taken on an aldehydic tone, with a caramel / toffee finish. Quite soft and creamy. Something not quite right here
This was simply delicious. The nose was a bit muted at first but opened to reveal green apple, lemon peel, rising bread, crushed stone, and some floral notes. The palate is killer, juicy and fresh and yet has this rich texture and lovely depth. Each sip seems to come faster than the last and the bottle disappears quickly. Lovely sushi pairing.

Youthful light yellow color. Bigger, woodier, and slightly sweeter than the vintage Delamotte. A somewhat odd, intrusive herbal note on the nose which I associate with Pinot Meunier and never enjoy. Nothing special about this at all, and in fact, some things which are objectionable.
Lovely, vibrant, young, lots of drive. Fresh and more on the precise/lithe side rather than yeasty/rich. Fine bead. Lemon, lemon curd, green apple, grapefruit peel, chalk. Good finish. Probably special in a few years but hard to not guzzle it. Not a grand champagne but Excellent value.

Some Fine Older Bordeaux and Cabs (Capitalle Grille, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Boy, I loved this right from the start. This has a nice twist on both the nose and palate. Pear, pear glacé, chiffon, with a delicate creamy mousse and white roses. The palate is delicate and lacy with pear, pear glacé, lemon chiffon, a subtle almond extract, very tangy acid and great accents on the finish. Some thought this might have a higher dosage; I don't think so, this is dry with a sense of sweetness coming from the fruit and creaminess. I loved it, very harmonious.
Said to be a 70/30 Pinot and Chardonnay blend. Intense, precise and refined flavors of lemons, orange and cherry pit. Feels at once both dry & austere but also layered with rich subtle fruit. This is regal, elegant and a think piece. Not quite as assessable and lovable at the Brut Premier but a lot more serious and intriguing. Roederer has tremendous champagne chops and is delivering the goods at every price point.

Dinner; 6/2/2017-6/3/2017 (Tim and Elliott's Place, San Francisco): Deep lemon-yellow; aromatic nose with tons of lees, brioche, a bit coiled; palate is rich, full bodied, high acid, slight combination of tartness and very slight bitterness that adds complexity; finish is medium-plus. This is quite good in a richer but balanced champagne style, but also seems very youthful and a bit coiled/youthful. Worth aging a few for 5-10 years. 91++

Impromptu chicken and pesto (Tim's, SF): Pale gold with reflections of straw. Explosive nose of warm brioche, baguette, and just a hint of stinky yeast extract - it's funky and I like it. Savory apple preserves with spices and iced pie crust. Powerfully explosive mousse on the palate, with medium-fine bubbles, modest dosage (holds it well - feels 5-7g), lots of autolytic brioche and pie dough, with shades of green and yellow apples, slight brown sugar notes, and faint baked apple character. High acid, strong finish.
Just a tad disjointed - needs a bit of age to integrate perhaps? Higher intensity than the Nyetimber. Slightly less well-integrated, but quite exciting.

Tasted as part of a Roederer Champagne event, this was a stand out for its blend of power and precision. Solid weight on the front end, with vibrant acidity and pure yellow and red fruit, moves through the palate with no dips, no loss of focus, and finishes with a dash of fruit and a lingering splash of brisk acids. It was very hard to put this wine down, and when they offered extra pours of anything (including 2009 Cristal) I chose this, and happily sat for an extra fifteen minutes enjoying the wine.

(Disgorged in fall of 2015) Light yellow colour lead way for the youthful nose dominated by citrus, mineral and red berries at first. It took quite a while for it to show some hazelnut and flowers. Very intense palate filled with lovely lemon acidity and a very fresh long bittersweet lime finish. The high acidity on the palate is so typical for the 2008's right now, and will last for decades.

2008 LOUIS ROEDERER VINTAGE BRUT- presented as a “grower champagne from a very warm season”, this shined brightly with perky acidity within its balanced state, had wonderful fruitiness with vanilla, ginger, toasted brioche, citrus, especially lemon, and pear flavors with a touch of minerality; it showed beautifully and improved in the glass steadily.

A private lunch (Restaurant Lameloise ***, Chagny, France): A very intelligent interpretation of the 2008 theme. It is obviously endowed with the tightness and mineral energy of the vintage, but the partial malo and the dosage of 9gr/l provide a subtle roundness and creaminess that already make it quite approachable already. Pure, medium-bodied, harmonious, subtle, very good aromatic persistence. Should drink beautifully for at least a decade from 2018.

Visiting Louis Roederer: This is such good news for anyone wondering (still?) about 2008 in Champagne. Low yields at 45 hectoliters per hectare, 25% malolactic fermentation given the high acidity of the vintage, with 9 grams of residual sugar, all balancing things nicely. The result is a bright wine, with complex aromatics and flavors including white flower, ripe pear, toasted brioche, rainfall on a stone, seashell like freshness. Of course there is citrus verve, coming from the acidity of the vintage. The bubbles are very fine and there is a mid palate richness that keeps you coming back for more.

Clear, light gold in color presenting medium intensity aromas of aromas of red berries, pear, peach and warm toast. Dry with corresponding levels of acidity and alcohol. Opens with red berries moving to pear/peach mid-palate giving way to roasted nuts and warm toast on the finish. Textured presence on the palate is nicely balanced with modest minerality present. Nice effort and ready to go right now!

A tester bottle ! Very pale straw color. Nose very primary with Granny Smith apples, lime, redcurrant, strawberry, brioche and nougat. Palate very linear and quite intense. Fine bead with a very lifted acid and grape tannin on the long finish. Quite delicious yet just a baby albeit a very attractive one ! Still loving the 96 which this is very reminiscent of.
Lots of autolytic yeast and bread dominates both nose and palate, partially blocking the fruit. Medium+ acidity and good minerality. A bit short and harsh on the finish. Fell short of the Pierre Peters L'esprit d 2008 we had alongside. Good but not great champagne. Might improve with cellaring.

Evident use of oak on the nose. Toasty, sour apples and some creaminess. Good quality champ from a great vintage. Slightly better than the 2008 rose, although I tend to be partial to the whites so that could just be a preference.
