Consistent with 2017’s reputation as an early-drinking vintage. Open for business. Bright fruit, good lift, tannins managable. Will reward additional cellaring but no guilt for opening now.

Lighter-bodied than expected, with bright strawberries in front leading into the classic tar & earth nebbiolo core and then a good finish on acidity, the tannins in the background. Delicious.

The nose opens up a bit after two hours....still quite tannic and sour on the palate - a bit in-between at the moment, perhaps in need of a year or two still.

Elegant smooth palate, bright & structural, medium bodied, rather complex with rose petals, dried leaves, sweet raspberries, lovely focused fruit core. The alcohol in this wine is showing through too obviously, otherwise this wine would be more balanced, & scored higher. However, this wine is still very enjoyable and a good Barbaresco, winning on its aroma and delicious palate.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Nuanced nose of sweetened cherries, wild flowers and smoked meats during decant. Wine was clear; crimson from bowl to rim without bricking or any halo. After resting: nose was more of the same, an olfactory delight! In the mouth: the tannins are not quite done here, but the wine was still delicious. Tart cherries, anise, pepper and cafe latte. Generally well-balanced but there was a touch of heat on the finish. While wonderful with a veal chop, I believe a couple of more years on its side will allow for more improvement.

Notes of tart cherry, menthol and earth. Tannins are high with a medium-fine grit and a drying character. Acidity is medium-high. Body is medium. Overall, while this wine tastes good now, the tannins aren’t completely resolved yet and will continue to age.

Rose petal, oak, permented soy sauce, cherry, ripe black fruit, tomato, smoke. Really complex but well-balanced wine. Coarse and sticky, well absorbed tannin stays in tongue and makes long finish. Evolves over quite a long time. For me it was peak at 6 hours after the opening but shows apparent sign of potential for more years of aging. Couldn’t ask for more than this for normale barbaresco. Pure bliss.

Cherries with hints of mature notes. Oak, dust, licorice, and herbs. The tannins are starting to soften and integrate very nicely. This wine is beginning to gain a few points. It might even go up another point when the oak is fully integrated.

Pizza in bonneville, so picking an Italian bottle to go with it. Medium purple color. Cherry, ash, roses, vanilla on the nose. Med acidity, med body, high alcohol, med flavor intensity, dry tannins and med finish. Sweet and warm mouth, vanilla, cherry, a bit of pepper. I like the nose more than the mouth, and there is a bit too much alcohol I am picking up. Still nice and good QPR as always!

Popped and poured. Opened up ever so slowly, and with some time, showed great red cherry fruit framed by a formidable tannic structure. This will be fabulous in another 3+ years, as its components marry and the tannins melt away some.

Decanted two hours. Pretty nose. Core of bright fruit. Structured. Entering a good drinking window. Tasted alongside the 2016 which was far more expressive.
WSET Notes:
Pale garnet.
Pronounced on the nose with red and black cherry, rose, tar, clove and leather. Developing.
Pronounced and dry on the palate. Full body, high alcohol, high acidity, high tannins, long finish.
Can drink now but has potential for aging.

Surprisingly advanced with even tertiary notes for a 2017. Drank over 2 days with first day having notes of dried strawberries, arugula, oregano and white pepper. 2nd day resolved into something not quite as exciting, but still very drinkable with notes of strawberry-rhubarb jam, touch of vanilla, and a heavy dose of black pepper.
I'm loving these less concentrated styles that open up in a much shorter window. I think this is priced right and enjoyable for most occasions. Just pair it with something not too rich or heavy. It's drinking great now and can't see this developing any further.

2019 Ratti Ocheti, Langhe Nebbiolo: Pale red tending to orangeish edge. Perfumed, delicate red berries, sandlewood. Ooh, surprisingly tender on the palate, again with light red fruit and good persistence. Pretty, but one has to pay proper attention!
2017 Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco: light red, thin orange edge. Sweet ripe strawberry and stem bouquet. Palate is ripe strawberry and spice... light concentration, delicious with a firm finish. Really enjoying this ce soir!
Fantastiskt vin!

Color: Pale garnet, slowly fading towards the rim indicating some age.
Nose: Crunchy cranberry juice, bazooka bubblegum, dirt road dust. Raspberries, mint, flower petals, and spices. Tobacco leaves and cedar box.
Palate: Confirms the nose. Silky smooth entry, high mouthwatering acidity, long and decadent finish. Alcohol masterfully integrated. Balanced wine. Medium-high to high tannins.
93-95pts. Just a wonderful wine. Gets better with air and keeps evolving 6 hours in.

My first time with the ‘17. This was terrific! Unmistakably Nebbiolo. While the fruit is very primary, a few years of cellaring should produce more complexity. Such a complete wine with every component in balance. A great future and just wonderful qpr here.

No decant on night 1. Enjoyable but tight with heavy tannins. Much more generous on night 2 (I probably should have decanted initially). Cherry and strawberry dominate. Tannins still present. Just a gorgeous wine.

Easily my favorite Barbaresco. Never had one I didn't like from the Produttori. This offering sizzles with strong strawberry notes and a whiff of cinnamon in the background. Good on pop and pour, decanting for an hour or so will resolve the slight extra tannins present upon opening. Worth looking for a good value under forty dollars.

With all my love of '16 PdB Barbaresco Normale (and that of basically everybody else who tried it) I decided to check in on a 'lesser' vintage. Tapering expectations as one would HAVE to when comparing to such a legendary predecessor, I still found a truly enjoyable wine, more classic in character than the gorgeous and generous '16. The nose, in particular, exhibits the more 'classical' Barbaresco traits - tar, violets, rose petals, leather, but it follows on the palate as well - dark red cherry dominates. Superfine dusty tannins actually deliver some real enjoyment, as they seem so focused and balanced with the wine itself - often fine dusty tannins seem an afterthought, a separate component to the wine to carry the finish on, but here it's fully integral to the wine itself. I'm sure it will be delicious with the homemade gnocchi Bolognese we will enjoy in a short while, but this is a delicious wine on its own, even young.

I gave 93 points to a (basic) Barbaresco of a semi-good vintage from Italy where I have like 40 pc in my cellar - compared to 1000+ btl of bordeaux. I rarely score over 92, thetefore only if it touches me. And this does. The nose is full of strawberries, herbes and roses, the acidity is quite present but goes so well with the tannins and fruit, there is a nice berry sweetness so together there is a incredible balance and even energy. Incredibly energy with minerality and berry sweetness, this is it!!! How even was 2016?!? Its getting better with age? More than happy if so, but really ready to business. Hold or drink. No!! drink now if enough bottles :-) Only 4 left

Surprisingly accessible at this stage, with beautiful red fruits and moderate acidity backed by a fair amount of fine grained tannins. This was a delight to drink last night, but should also cellar well for a decade.

Deep red, highly aromatic, with notes of rose petals, toasty herbs, a sweet berries. In the mouth it's ultra balanced and fresh, with bright fruits and sweet red licorice notes. So inviting for a "young" Nebbiolo. Bottle was gone very quickly :)

Thought it would be fun to check in on the 2017 "Classico" while I patiently wait for my 2017 Riservas to arrive (long story). Popped and poured; enjoyed over several hours out of Burgundy glasses. In the glass, the wine is deep ruby color with a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity with no obvious staining of the tears. On the nose, ripe cherrys with tar, herbs and organic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium++ tannins and medium+ acid. The fruit set is confirmed and despite the firm structure, comes across almost round and chewy. She thicc. Long finish. The 2017's are drinking well right now and noticeably better than my last note. Have confidence these will drink well through 2032.

Young? Absolutely, but surprisingly open and accessible at this moment. Floral and herbal. Classic tar and roses aroma. Raspberries and red cherries. Wild game, leather, calamint. A touch of oak spice becomes more obvious with air. Cinnamon, clove. Firm, but enjoyable tannins. Grippy, assertive, but not overly aggressive. Like a firm hand guiding you. Gives structure to the wine, but doesn’t overwhelm. Very in balance with the sweet berry fruit on the palate. As prototypically a Barbaresco as you can get. Can certainly benefit from some 3-7 years in the cellar, but I don’t see myself wanting to age or for decades to come
Very closed bottle. Unlike previous one tried in Piedmont. Bought direct from PdB store in Barbaresco. Maybe it didn’t travel well. First time to be disappointed by this producer.
Hellrot mit englischrotem Rand. Tiefes, herbes Kirschbukett.

Tasted at the Produttori with Aldo Vacca. This was a smaller than normal but very good vintage for the Produttori. The wine is a bright translucent garnet color. The nose seemed a little muted but was floral earthy and mineral driven. There was plenty of acidity and tannin (high on both). Palate was somewhat "crunchy" with red cherry and savory elements along with good depth of flavor and a long finish. Balanced and bright with enery and grip. Needs some time but a nice wine.

Opened and no decant. This is still very young and this bottle had a lot more tannins going on than I expected would be the case. I suggest a one hour or so decant or letting lie for a year or so.

Drinking well but another year and the tannins will be better integrated. Brimming with violets on the nose with some licorice and menthol. Palate is fleshed out with ripe red cherry doninating for now. Still so elegant for a warmer vintage.

Superb. Likely to be even better with time. On opening, nice red fruit, with firm tannins to finish, bracketing a full and complex, juicy middle that tastes, for lack of a better word, ezciting. After being opened and exposed to air for several hours, it becomes deeper, with a longer, more balanced finish (cherries+tannin and a hint of tar and violets, if you will). Delicious balance between ripe fruit, medium-high acidity and firm tannins. Wait before opening next bottle.

Robust, dry herbs and leather. Strawberries and tart cherry behind a veil of alcohol, tannins and tar. Served with summer grilled chicken and tomatoes, the wine was a little austere. One of those “not the right call moments” one gets when tasting a good, but mispaired wine. Following a piece of grilled bread dredged through olive oil, the wine showed better. Note to self, the tannins are deeply there, more so than I remembered, so drink with something fatty or creamy in the dish. Polenta, Parmesan and the like.

Deep red color. Heady, alcoholic aromas. Medium weight but feels heavier than this and more plodding. Ripe cherry, good soil, but rough, hot, and unbalanced. I did not care for this bottle at all. It has differentiated itself from the 2016 fairly quickly, and not in a good way.

Light ruby color. Cherries, raspberries, rose petals and cola on the aroma. Black cherries with raspberry jolly ranger and cola on the palate. Pale ruby with garnet rim. Medium plus intensity on the nose. Aromas of raspberry, strawberry, hawthorn, cloves, red roses, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper. It’s developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol, high tannins, medium plus body, medium plus flavour intensity, raspberry, black pepper, roses, cinnamon and coffee come through. The finish is medium plus. Very good wine! Still a baby obviously. Can certainly age. Refreshing with great complexity! Certainly worth its reputation.

Zesty, floral, red berries notes. Hints of tea leaves that evolve into strong but fine tannins. Mouth filling, long finish and elegant. Best for now with food that balance the tannin. Easy to drink with couple of hours of decanting. Imagine will be more beautiful in 1 or 2 years.

Not ready for prime time. This needs food badly and might just not be for me. Lots of tannins and dark fruit, a bit overripe perhaps. I don't think I'm willing to wait this one out to see it turn a corner with so many other great nebbiolo options out there.

This was opened last night. Solid ruby red, though not opaque. Has really opened up overnight. Fragrant, with pretty red fruit aromas. Really fills the olfactory. Palate packs plenty of punch, with big tannins, but they don't keep fine fruit flavors from coming through. Red and black fruit and soil. Lengthy finish. I think this has a bright future, although full maturity will probably take at least five years. 5-13-16-9: 93/100.

Have been sitting on a case of this, deciding not to drink right now based on CT notes. But, I ordered from a restaurant wine list when nothing else was speaking to me last night. The wine is clear, young Nebbiolo. Tannins not overwhelming or unbalanced, more lending a concentration to the wine. Time will tell if this is special or not.
Delicious young barbaresco. Better on day 2 when the tannins soften. Concentrated fruit profile with mint gel elegantly mixed in. I’m sure this will get better but hard to resist now.

Decanted for about 5 hours. Nose of tar sweet cherry oak. Palate is tannin and finish is tannin. Definitely not ready to drink so I'm not going to rate it. I disagree with others saying this is still drinking well young, I wouldn't open this for at least another 5 years and ideally 10. Still could be quality but I really cannot tell through all the tannin.

Decanted (despite the sommelier saying it didn’t need to be - he said that about everything we drank tho…!). Drinking nicely, but with obvious room to age and mature. Good quality and enjoyable. Slightly sweet red and bramble fruit, a tiny little bit of tartness, less tannin than I was expecting. Didn’t develop that much in the 2 hours it sat in the decanter.
Clear bright light colour. Nose was tight to start with red currant, later some mulch and dried mushrooms? Palate was tight and chewy to start. Hasn’t opened much with time and finish desiccates the palate and then fades to a lingering finish.
Definitely one to leave alone but a lot going on and should be exciting in 5 years time

91/92. First time I have tried this. A bit unknit at the moment. Has muted earthy aromas of tea, tar, strawberries, sandstone, licorice and cherries. Its meaty medium bodied freshly fruited longilinear minerally red, blue fruits palate has got excellent depth and ends longish, fresh and a bit tannic and with a burning sensation. 14.5%. Needs a 2/3 hrs aeration. Lay down 10-20 years. Juvenile. Improves in the glass. Could improve to a 93/94 with more aeration.
Too early, but most of you who are reading this already are aware of that fact. Nevertheless this is very enjoyable lovely read fruited sour cherry notes with some herbaceous Earthiness. The more air this has the more tannins came around at least the first day. Plenty of acidity to keep it fresh. It was definitely better the second and third day and would probably still drink well on the fourth- speculative. It’s been a while since I’ve had the 16 and I won’t be touching the ones I have for a number of years. Go ahead and drink one of these if you’re craving some Nebbiolo. I pop the cork and felt some regret until I started drinking it.

Promising and lovely now. This is clearly young but it has a fragrant cherry syrup nose and light fine tannins that will hold this for time ahead. Sandalwood and earth on the finish. This one is a keeper but you could drink this early and not be disappointed.

very floral. Rose pedals, raspberry, a slight sweetness to the wine and a touch of licorice.
Not quite the finesse of the 2016 as the tannins are a bit too strong, but I am glad I did not skip this vintage. I enjoyed it now, and I think it should be great in a decade. Pair with fatty food and careful not to decant too long, as the tannins eventually became more prominent.

Very curious about this as other CT notes are very mixed when it comes to if it's ready to drink or not. All find it good though.
My main takeaway is that first impression is a fresh, fruity, stringent, roses, leather, chocolate very drinkable but second impression is a very tannic rough wine that needs a few years on its back before prime time. I reckon that with some (fatty) food and some more air this will still be fantastic.

Opened up nicely in about 10 min. Red fruits on the palate with a medium finish. Acidic over tannic but that is to be expected with nebbiolo. This producer's coop does just a fab job. Am going to wait up on the remaining 2 bottles.

Drank alongside the 2016, which is sublime. This is not far behind. A bit more rich, a bit less bright. Still, quite lovely and certainly with the opportunity to develop though I’m not certain that it can get much more appealing than this. Bright cherry, medium-plus acidity carries the wine across the palate to a lengthy finish. Really excellent. Quite the accomplishment. UPDATE - DAY 3: The wine is just better and better and is nearly the equal of the ethereal ‘16.

Overall, this wine needs a bit more time. We drank it at a restaurant with 1+ hour decant and it was still quite trapped. Needed another 2. Scoring 89 based on current drinking, but I think this wine leaps up a few points over the next 5 years.
BUT, the underlying fruit and complexity is high quality. Smooth entry, well balanced mid-palate, and medium finish. Very fine cherry and “dust” in the mouth — sharp tannins which I’m assuming will settle with time…which is really what this wine needs. Will source a few bottles for the cellar to enjoy ~2025

If it were a bigger name, I might have scored it higher? This was from a magnum, but either way, Produttori is amazing. The 2016 and 2017 are as good as 90% of all Barbarescos and sell for much less. Balanced and complex…. Which is all I ask for, it is. I have none of the riservas from these years, but no need with the base bottling as good as it is.

Decanted 3 hours. Cherries, violets, dry earth. The palate is big and rich by this wine's standards, with the youthful fruit masking livening acidity and mainly buffering the dusty tannins. I'm not much for drinking really young Nebbiolo usually, but it can be done with enjoyment with this wine. Air really helped the fruit emerge on the palate to counterbalance the tannin.

Strikes me as lacking some of the overt appealing depth that the 16 showed young. This is slightly lighter now, maybe a bit stern. Drying. The 16 (and 14) struck me as out of the gate sexy (ack) and wines I immediately knew I need more. This is good. Correct. But lacks something. Maybe some time.

Hard to say anything other than that this is a very successful rendition of a Barbaresco, has all the classlc traits of traditional Nebbiolo - dark cherry, roses and violets, tar pastille - maybe some menthol as well. Form structure but the tannins are ripe, dry but not green. Has a youthful liveliness making it very enjoyable today, especially as it airs and warms up. Doesn’t have any particular personality or traits of terroir as some smaller producers might be able to demonstrate, but with PdB these days what you get is the work of very able hands, a predictable wine of dito quality, which I mean in a positive way.

The 2017 Produttori pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core. Medium intensity with notes of dark cherry, tar, roses and earth. On the palate, the fruit is generous confirming red cherry and raspberry fruit, earth and dried herbs. The finish is bone dry. Tannins are medium+ and acid is medium. On the rounder, more opulent side.

All the components of a good Nebbiolo are present, but I believe that this one was just too young to rate, as the oak and tannins were more assertive than I prefer. If you have this one, I'd suggest not opening it before 2024, and it certainly could age and improve for many years thereafter. Let these sleep for a while.

Second bottle in a month. Drinking so well right now with beautiful pure fruit and a bit of menthol. Seems to get more angular and acidic with air--in my opinion is better as a pop and pour. Not as polished as the '16 but certainly accessible now.

Like Deluz, this was my first Produttori. Decanted for two hours before a meal with friends, we made a homemade bolognese and this wine was pitch perfect. My day after impressions: Deep red color, gorgeous. Wonderful aromas of earth and red fruit. Fresh fruit in the toung with enjoyable tannins, acid at end. This is a wine to be enjoyed with friends and family and I cannot wait to see how this evolves over the years.

Aged for 24 months in large oak casks. It offers layers of aromatics woven together with tar, forested earth, dried cherry, and sweet tobacco. The palate is ripe and pure, with raspberry leather, tea leaf, and blood orange. It is mouth-filling, with fruit that is long and persistent, fine tannins, and a lifted finish. Finessed and elegant, the 2017 is drinking beautifully now and will continue to drink well over the next 15 years. 2021-2036

Delicious barbaresco, quite herbal on the nose but explodes in the mouth. Big tannins but the fruit comes through with the herbs. Drinkable now, without much air, but surely will age very well.
Will go well with our dry aged rib eye.

Forward red fruits with some tea and floral notes mixed in. Pretty prominent tannins on the palate and especially on the finish which shows rather notable austerity. There’s plenty of fruit here, and the attack is rather plump for a young Nebbiolo, but I get the sense this is shutting down compared to my last bottle a few months ago. Should age well.

My first Produttori of any vintage. As others have said better than I ever could, this is still a young wine but is enjoyable now. Two hour decant, bright red fruit on the nose, still quite primary on the mid palate as the fruit is quickly overtaken by the fine tannins. Enjoyable, but am happy to have the balance of the case to follow the development of this notable wine, but also wouldn't be afraid to pull another one out. Excellent value.

Such a great wine. Nose of bright cherries, liquorice, spice and mulberries. Great intensity, acid and balance. It’s got so much going for it - and the hit of sour cherry on the back palate is incredibly moreish. Structurally it has that classic Italian tannin - grippy, strong, but in balance with everything else. Will only get better.

My first Produttori and it did not let me down. Striking ruby color for a Nebbiolo. Moderate nose of cherry and sweet spice, opening after some time. Medium body with mostly cherry, some stone fruit, tar notes, cedar. Perfect balance of acid and tannins, moderate finish. Just a beautiful wine with no edges or distractions, so easy and enjoyable to smell and drink. Can't complain about the price.

Produttori Del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2017 On the nose, some red fruit, clove, licorice, and sweet spice; not too intense and pretty shy. On the palate, some black fruit with good intensity of fruit, clove, licorice, some sweetness in the mid palate, even hints of dark chocolate, a bit of heat, some spice and dried raisins. Still pretty closed and needs some time. 91/100

Red fruit smell, strawberry or raspberry. Medium body and slightly coarse texture. Sappy fruit acid. Not hugely structured but still needs a few more years.

PNP. Bright cherry fruit on the nose. Very fragrant wine that is relatively open and generous at this stage. Not sure if this will remain open or close up at some point but right now this is fun to drink and more open out of the bottle than my memory of recent bottles of the 2015 and 2016 yet shows the structure for longer-term aging. 1 hour decanted. The 2017 opens with darker berries, predominately dark cherries. Followed by liquorice, mint, thyme and dark roasted espresso beans. With more time in the glass, some orange peel comes thru. On the palate, classic Barbaresco characteristics but slightly darker fruit style. Tannins are surprisingly fine and smooth, overall balance very good and a very long and enticing finish.

Scent of red berries and a hint of strawberry and perfume and also some complexity. On the palate I was surprised that the tannins and acidity were so balanced. The palate also offered red berries, strawberry and perfume.

Thoroughly enjoyable new vintage of PB. Alluring dark-ruby translucent in the glass. On the nose, typisk Barbaresco scents including spices (pepper), earth, tobacco hints, ripe cherries. Palate is medium-bodied, balanced in terms of acidity and tannins, juicy ripe cherries. Splendid tannic-drying finish. Enjoyable today, even better in a few years.
Eight at the Fordwich Arms (The Fordwich Arms): What an unexpected pleasure - this was just brilliant. Not sure there's much to say beyond quoting Galloni's review, which I completely agree with, and admitting that we went through several bottles of this.
"In 2017, the warm, dry growing season gave the Barbaresco an extra kick of richness that fills out its frame and adds so much immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and mint are open in the glass, but it is the wine’s seductive radiance that wins the day. The 2017 is such an inviting and expressive wine. Don’t miss it!"

Root Day - just came into the store. Pop and poured for evaluation/tasting note. Translucent ruby from core to edge. Evocative nose of red fruit, savoury herbs, red flowers (which explode with the more air it gets) and a wet rock/mineral scent. On the palate the savoury elements and wet rock flavours hit first followed by bright red fruit, and some cherry skin light bitterness. Good tannic structure and excellent acidity but wow - the fruit and mineral flavours really hit strongly each sip. Floral on the exhale. This is really really good and comparable to the 2016 at this stage. I might like this even more than the 2016 at this stage. Will wait to see what happens with some more air.
1/2 hour in the glass - colour the same. No swirling - delicate but penetrating nose of dried roses, red juice (cherry/pomegranate), dried herbs and minerals. With swirling, the fresh red fruit explodes on the nose and it’s a slightly muted version of the pop and pour. Flavours are pretty much the same as the pop and pour but there’s more savoury flavours and a definite spice kick. Finish is medium to long with fruit and florals remaining.
1 hour in glass - nose of violets and roses with savoury herbs, spice, red fruit and now licorice. Flavours of savour herbs, red fruit, spice, and some floral notes. Finish is starting to show some warming alcohol now along with the red florals and fruit and spice.
This is truly excellent and I’lll be getting more of this vintage. Nothing but upside for this.
2nd day - Root Day- bottle left on counter with the cork put back in. Colour same as yesterday. Nose showing both dried florals and bright red fruit with spice and herbs - perhaps a juxtaposition of what was and what will be? On the palate today the tannins are sticking out a bit more (definitely more drying than yesterday) but the fruit is still there underneath. Pretty grippy tannins on subsequent sips. Not the best showing for it tonight - I can still taste the potential though.
3rd day - Root Day - no real change in colour - perhaps a bit of fading. The nose when I poured into the glass was explosive - roses, dried herbs, red fruit! Now nosing from the glass - delicate fruit, florals and today a bit of tar and alcohol. On the palate it’s much smoother than yesterday - everything is diminished including the fruit except for the (today) quite long finish of herbs and florals. Tannins still grippy but not as much as yesterday for sure.
4th and last day - Root Day - still crimson but now showing a touch of bronze. Nose is dried herb, dried flowers and dried red fruit. Getting more complex but quite delicate and reserved - there’s a touch of smoke and licorice as well. On the palate the fruit is showing again with the tannins quite softened. The tannins are a bit drying on the tongue after swallowing but nothing like yesterday. This is almost as good as it was on the first day.
After a few hours basic decanting, there was still some alcohol noticeable, but not in a distracting or messy way. Nice bouquet and notes in line with many reviews. This started to feel in better harmony in third or fourth hour after opening, but that could also be the benefit of having a glass earlier. I'm sure this will integrate better after a few more years but is enjoyable today if you open for long enough. Looking forward to this bottle in a few more years.

The 2017 Produttori Normale is a great heir to the superb 2016. It's what I’m looking for in a Produttori Normale. More open and better on the second evening. Bright but dark ruby. A bouquet of cut cedar, red cherries, red currants and other mainly red fruits, sottobosco, pine sawdust, damp soil and liquorice. More nascent lilac or lavender florals than rose. On palate, quite open textured and accessible. Sour cherries, cloves, more tar than on the nose, cinnamon, warm soil and a touch of mint. Mid weight, refined and in proportion. Sufficient volume and density. Fresh acidity. Grippy tannins on the finish, yet to integrate. Moderately long. Delicious now but will probably cellar like the 1974 (ie 45+ years). (92-93).

Medium bright ruby red in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruits aromas of red cherries, strawberries & currants with overtones of earthy/dusty, floral notes of roses, coffee, herbs, spices, minerals & hint of cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of red cherries, tart cranberries & currants with earthiness, spices, herbs, minerals & toasty oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and extended airing but will benefit from several more years of aging.

Sur les fruits noirs, beaucoup dastringence et de tannins, herbes seches. Manque de fruit et de matiere pour contrer l’astringence du vin. Ce n’est pas un coup de coeur ici versus le 2016.

Opened the bottle around 12p, drank between 5.30p and 9p, but with a half pour around 1p. The wine starts very tight; give it all the time you can. Th warmth of the vintage is obvious. The fruit is darker: hard raspberry candy, dark cherry, lots of sweet licorice. Also baking spices: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg. Bright orange pith with time and swirling. Tar and black tea on the finish. Not as much rose as I expect will come with bottle age. The tannins are very aggressive at this point, as one would expect, and the alcohol takes some time to integrate.

This is solid. Brilliant red ruby color with energetic red cherry fruit. Lovely aromatics with the expected floral qualities. Tannins are definitely there on the back end but fruit a little more forward making this very drinkable young. Should still age well though.

Consistent with the prior bottle some four months ago: Good>Very good. However, this time I double-decanted the night prior. The result, the wine was totally wide open, with powerful aromas, and good+ depth of flavors. My only hesitation at this point, and that hesitation is modest at best, are the rather solid tannins that only some bottle rest can more fully integrate. For its full potential, this is highly recommended
Distinctive raspberry aromas when pouring out of the bottle. In the glass, detected cherry, thyme, mint, rose and a hint of chocolate. As with most Nebbiolo, don't expect much without decanting or allowing it to breathe a little and let the tannins settle and flavors develop. Pleasant to sip on and enjoy the long finish. Definitely can benefit from a few more years in the cellar.

Not decanted unfortunately. I found the tannins too harsh on this tonight, and there is less fruit and roundness when compared to the '16, which I had side by side with this tonight (the tannins on the '16 were much more elegant as well, and I don't think it's just an extra year in the bottle). The nose on this was lovely (more immediately expressive than this '16), showing some typical Barbaresco floral scents, but you could also smell the massive dusty tannins along with the sour cherry. The fruit on this seemed a bit weak and perhaps a bit underripe, but maybe it will appear with time or with a decanting - I'll have some more of this tomorrow.

At La Masseria -- Wanted to try this since I have a case coming in the fall from Flickinger. Decanted for about 20 minutes. I was surprised how open for business this is. I thought it would need an hour or more of air to be tolerable, but it was delicious from the start. I feel this is ready to drink now. Light cherry in color, the wine itself has a nice light bounce to it without without real heavy tannins. The flavor is mostly light cherry/strawberry, roasted red peppers and a hint of cigar leaf, and there is good acidity which indicates this will evolve nicely. We all enjoyed it. Very good with rabbit or veal or a pasta with a bolognese sauce. 92 now, but I believe this will evolve to become even better.

On the nose: cherry forward notes, sour cherry, chocolate, orchard fruit, apricot pit, fresh, violet, honey, honeycomb, very subtle minerality, mint, warm spices maybe cinnamon or nutmeg
On the palate: it’s pretty tannic! Acidic as well. I would say definitely dry. Not as fruity-tasting, more earthy.
It’s still a bit young, I think it will age well! It’s 14.5% alcohol but I can’t really taste it, LOL.
This would be great with any heavier meals like bolognese. I’m having a vegetarian pasta with a deeper, more caramelized tomato sauce which is pairing nicely.
I’m a fan, would purchase again!

My score may be a point biased because this is my go to Barbaresco. I love it for the price and uniqueness. Lots of leather and menthol. The wine is syrupy and thickly coats my throat. It is big yet not over the top. Plus Barbaresco is always food friendly.

Decanted 1.5 Hours which allowed the wine to open beautifully. Initial pour full of heavy dried fruit aromas, w/strong legs. Round flavor of figs, light tar and mellow heavy berries. Relaxed full finish. Went exceptional w/appetizer of Prosciutto & Sartori Merlot Bellavittano cheese. Entre: Red sauce, braciola & pasta & the wine mellowed out the natural acidity of the red sauce. Such an enjoyable wine.

Wonderful nose, crystalline and pure red fruit. Fresh crushed raspberries and cranberries, with a whiff of Hawaiian Punch (in a good way). Palate is a bit more backwards than the 2016 at this point, and takes a 3 hour decant to start revealing its stuffing. Elegant, high-toned cherry and rose-hip fruit, but not as sappy as 2015 or 2016. chalk-mineral forward, a pinch of dried herbs, and powdery but formidable tannins. A bit of astringency on the finish that is a bit more thorny than bracing. By hour 4 in the decanter, this had started to clam up hard. Clearly will improve with a few years sideways, but reminds me a bit of 2013 - a very nice wine, yet not up to the high bar set by the last two vintages. 90+
On day 2, this is still tight and unyielding on the palate, with the astringent factor ascending -- not terribly pleasant at this point. 82.
Day 3, starting to open up a bit - perfumed core of cherry fruit is starting to show on the palate, the wall of astringent/unripe tannins partially receding. 88

This is always a favourite when we serve it (keep in mind that many of our guests prefer old world wines). Lots of red fruits here. Excellent QPR. Easy to drink. You can drink it young. Crowd pleaser (not sure if that would be the case if the crowd prefers new world wines that are very big on fruit - fruit bombs). We sometimes drink it as an everyday wine but it's at the upper limit of the price point for our everyday wines. I prefer the 2016 but the 2017 is almost as good

Delicious...and we drained the bottle during a long evening.
A raspberry, strawberry, acerola, and pomegranate fest, with rose hip, hibiscus, rose petal, and petrol accents.
High energy up front, much the same as an energetic puppy. The middle is rock solid, but the back shows a thinness atypical of the label, and the finish is a bit pinched, with a touch of bitterness, typical of slightly under ripe fruit.
Excellent quality and solid QPR. Overall, however, not quite on par with recent vintages. More fun than serious. 91-92.
Luftet 20 min. 89p.

Six hour decant. Bright medium red. Camphor aromas that became more floral with more air. Ripe, sappy, medium+ weight. Tart, earthy, dusty cherry fruit that gradually became more sweet, some herb, and surprisingly strong, tangy acidity. The contrast between this and the 2016 is pretty stark. The younger vintage is more rambunctious and fruit driven than the more seamless, classical 2016 and has less tobacco and tar. While it has some raspy elements that stick out and are not fully integrated at the moment, these are all consistent with promising young Nebbiolo, and there is a lot to like about the 2017. Still, I have to think that the symmetry, elegance, savory complexity, and sheer balance of the 2016 make it a better bet over the long run, but it will be interesting and enjoyable to follow both wines over time.

Decanted for 3h. Violets, vanilla, baking spices on the nose. On the palate, a powerful expression of red fruit, lots of tar and mineral too. In your face tannins hiding the acidity in the finish. Excellent showing, and certainly far better than my previous coravin tasting. Tonight paired with slow cooked baby back ribs. 91/92

Very ripe black/blue fruit, lots of tar, seeming much more like Barolo than Barbaresco. Completely different in style from a recent bottle of the 2016, which I much preferred.
Good>Very good. This was allowed to aerate in decanter for 2 hours prior to service. Even then, this was tight, some might say backward. The final sip was elegant, and offered much more harmony and grace. Tempting now, for some palates, but I think I'll give the remaining bottles another 1-2 years, at least. As always, a pure, and skillful interpretation of the grape, and place. For its full potential, this just squeaks into the highly recommended
Exquisite and delightful. And this is supposed to be a crappy year? Nope. Popped and poured and captivated with understated elegance and bright fruit that continued to seduce over four hours. Like an afternoon with a great friend.

From a coravin tasting of six 2016-2017 barbarescos that I ordered from the enoteca. Yes, these are tragically young, but with the purpose of scoping out potential investments for my cellar. Decanted back and forth between two glasses after removing a sample with a coravin. The nose has tar, violets, and alcohol. On the palate, round red fruit, very grainy tannins, tar, earthiness, and yes, alcohol. Definitely medium bodied, definitely tannic, but all the elements are here for this to settle down with age, and maybe with some decanting too. From coravin it is disjointed and hard to enjoy after the softer, more elegant barbarescos from Piccaluga. My initial impression is that it is a big step down from '15 and '16, I gave it the same score as '12. Let's see what it is like after some serious decanting.

Clear ruby red colour. Strawberries, nuts and a hint of salty liquorice on the nose. Taste of strawberries, nuts, red currants and salty liquorice. Long and dry finish with hints of salty liquorice. Soft and well integrated tannins. Very high acidity. A great Nebbiolo that could be mistaken for a less complex and young Barbaresco. Goes well with lamb or mushrooms.

Pure bliss.

Hard not to drink these as good as they are now. Red fruit and structured—but with accessible now with plenty of fleshy ripe fruit. Mint and eucalyptus notes add complexity on the palate. Long finish, quite fresh but does show some tannin.

Very fine cherry and “dust” in the mouth — sharp
tannins which I’m assuming will settle with time…which is really what this wine needs.

All the components of a good Nebbiolo are present, but I believe that this one was just too young to rate, as the oak and tannins were more assertive than I prefer.

It’s got so much going for it - and the hit of sour cherry on the back palate is incredibly moreish. Striking ruby color for a Nebbiolo.

3 hour decant.
Medium purple-red color, muted nose. Bright acidity on top, delicious fruit underneath. Lots of tannins. This wine, although delicious now, will benefit from 4-5 years in the cellar.

I legend in making? This is voluptuous on attack and refined in finish. A wonderfully crafted Nebbiolo that has everything it needs to age for decades. Right now it shows well but it probably will shut down. Super lovely.

Drank with an Italian dinner in Park City. Paired well with the meal and was enjoyable on its own. Nice balance, not too heavy or tannic, good notes of dark berries and a bit of licorice.
