  • as with all great wines, a 1hour plus decant is required.
pure concentrated clean fruit, great balance, persistent finish.
really good, but they need to sit for a few more years as this has a long life ahead of it.

  • WOW, huge nose of cassis, lead pencil, cigar box, tobacco, very dark, mineral... Loads of bacon fat, sappy black cherries, mineral, black, length of 45 sec!!

  • rich young purple red color, generous on the nose from the start settling into an elegant beauty after 4 hours in glass, cassis, plum, blackberry, a nice framing of spicy oak, relaxing and familiar, classic, on the palate young but surprisingly generous, primary blackberry and cassis fruit with firm spice notes from the oak, cloves, a bit of cedar, perfectly ripe but still with some classic restraint, abundant velvety tannins, excellent depth and a fine long finish with crushed berries on the tail end, this is somewhat reminiscent of the great 1985 and will hopefully have a similarly long life and generous drinking window.

  • Lear garnet with a ruby core. Very clear. Cacophony of dark fruit scents with black blueberries and blackberries and bramble. Sweet blackberries, cinnamon, raspberries on the edges. Has at least three decades of life ahead of it.

  • Super layered beautiful wine a little bit on the sweet side--dark raisin, dark rum, dark plum, purple inky and black....black currant, blackberry and plum

  • I apologize to all those, who seem to know more about wine. This was my birthday present. It was not a wow experience, to me 160€ is a lot of money. The wine was a big disappointment like many wines I had above 100€. What disturbs me is the taste of alcohol, the wine is sharp at this state. No balance, no excitement.

  • Easy to drink, multi layered with depth. Tastes a little new world to me--dark plum, blackberry.

  • K&L Grand Bordeaux Tasting: This feels a little closed on the nose, though I smell a focused beam of cassis coming through. Lighter body and weight on the palate than the '19 and '20 Rauzan Segla, though its still relatively fruit forward and velvety texturally. Firm, drying tannins with a long finish with a hint of spice. While this is ripe, it feels a little more tolerable than the very ripe Rauzan Segla wines.

  • K&L Bordeaux Tasting: Deep ruby appearance. Dark fruits galore, pretty florals, nutmeg, tobacco leaf, charcoal. Mouthcoating on the palate - fantastic depth and complexity. Intoxicating nose. Tannins are fine-grained and nicely integrated. Great acidity level. Never ending finish. This is scary good now. Big potential with further age.

  • dark purple. intense nose of ripe cassis and plum, cedar and herbal whiffs. feels quite full in the mouth, with dense fruit and a massive tannic structure that will need quite some time to soften. long finish with some hints of the complexities, but not enough for me to get a good read on where it is or may be going.

  • Much softer tannins and more rounded than the 2020. Beautiful. Elegant.

  • Saturday Afternoon Bordeaux (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Again, almost black, completely saturated. Reticent but some blackberry aromas. Medium to full bodied, strapping, and mouth coating. Great feel of fruit with an herbaceous edge. Beautifully ripe tannins, seemingly lower acidity than the first 3 wines, long finish. Classic, dusty finish, an infant. I found this more balanced and convincing than I did when I tasted it in the spring.

  • Too young I know, but we opened a bottle in the name of science and it surprised me by how approachable it was. Of course there were tannins, but they were fine and well integrated, complementing the wine rather than overpowering it. Rich blue and black fruits, savoury, tinged with graphite. Classic Pauillac and absolutely delicious.

This may shut down at some point, but im not completely convinced of that. It will also obviously improve with time, but I really enjoyed this bottle. Classy stuff.

  • 2019 Bordeaux Tasting, MW tasting (Vintner's Hall, London): 70% CS 24% Mer 3% CF 3% PV, 14.50%
Very alcoholic in the nose, cutting throught all the red fruit nice thin spice frame.
Palate showing juicy tannins with a wood frame, tight and dry, med body, long finish. Needs time

  • This is everything and more. I’ve had 3 bottles to confirm it’s pedigree. If I was stuck on a desert island and could choose the terrior it would probably be Pauillac, a portion of which would be Lynch Bages. Simply exceptional this is. Had along side most of the top 30 wines of the vintage over both banks for comparison (excluding the first growths) . 96-97+

  • amazing--still young, well-balanced, not as much depth as I thought but probably needed more time to open it up...great dark cherry, plum, molasses.

  • 0.375 L bottle at BBQ early Sep 2023: deep dark rubin red color; bouquet of dark and red berries, red cherries plus notes of mint; fleshy, juicy texture with dark fruits on the palate; medium/full body; slightly tannic. 92+?/100

Excellent young Lynch-Bages 2019. Let’s see if he develops into an outstanding one?

  • From a 375ml bottle. Not decanted, because the wine was great from the beginning. After the great (small) bottle in January, I could not resist opening another small bottle. A really great young Bordeaux. I am curious how it will be with 10 more years. 94+ pts. at the moment.

  • Wow what an amazing wine, a total opposite from the must wait from LB. This wine is ready to drink now. I could not put it down so it when fast and dangerous because of the 14.5% but it is too good. I have a bunch of the '18 LB and that is ready also but the '19 knocks down the '18 a couple of points. At the store I Coravined a bottle that I bought for the wine manager and some of the staff and they where also taken back by how such a young LB was so amazing. Notes of mocha and ripe dark fruit. At the house I PNP the wine and no real decant time, maybe an hour or two because it went quick. I am glad I bought 12 bottles at futures price of $90 but now it is on sale for $150, $60 bucks more but worth buying Binny's out of stock! If you get a chance pick up a bottle (or two, you will want to) and have a fantastic Pauillac grand cru! No wonder why Jeb Dunnuck changed his rating April '22 to 100!

  • 2019 Bordeaux tasting (K&L Wine Merchant - San Francisco): N: Awesome floral aromas with some chocolate, fresh red fruits with tons of energy. Amazing nose. There's also a "fresh air" quality to this, as if you're standing atop of a high mountain.

P: Intense black and red fruits, a streak of dark graphite, slightly damp oak, gentle spice, and wet stones.

This stood out the most in the entire line up. Wine of the tasting for me, and for practically everyone else. Surprisingly good now and will definitely get better with more age.

  • K&L 2019 Bordeaux Tasting (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Very deep and dark color. Serious, classic blackberry aromas. Medium weight. More supple than Pauillac, but a much leaner, more grainy feel than that wine. Dry, penetrating tannins. Bury this one deeply based upon today's showing, but I'm not convinced of its balance for the long run.

  • Nose of vanilla, black fruit very present, mine de crayon... Very concentrated, loads of tannin, très puissant, black black fruit, to be retasted in 10 years!!

  • The first of our 2019 Grand vins we opened. Immediately after decanting closed and disappointing. One hour in a wide decanter, still tough. It is too young with very present tannins. Nose however now appears rewardingly. Paired with non dominant food like grilled fillet of beef with salt and pepper, tannins are balanced out and all the flavours do appear. Lovely, very. After the meal, tannins reappear. This is a beautiful wine, but stash it several years. 95+ Plenty of future potential.

  • Even after 4 hours decant, the wine is surprisingly fruity. Like Napa fruity. There is a hint of bdx earthiness on the nose but in a blind setting, most people would call it Napa. On the palate, much more bdx, but still very Napa-esque. Tannin and acidity are aggressive. Good structure, but it is just too much at this phase. You can recognize the quality and it probably takes many years for this wine to be good.

  • Powerful and dense, perhaps missing a bit of the intense blue fruit notes found in the '19 Pichon Baron

  • 2019 bdx blind mini-tasting: From 375, Blind #5. This is the complete package, almost from the get go. A strapping, muscular wine, that is almost painfully balanced in every direction, with taut red/black fruit enmeshed with pipe tobacco and earth, superb depth, superfine tannins, seamless from front to back. The nose is effusive yet totally classy, utterly beguiling, and I want to just sniff this wine for hours. I guess Montrose. Three votes for WOTN (including mine).

Not totally surprised to find out it is Lynch Bages, and pretty happy about it - since this is one of the wines that I missed out on at the UGC tasting.

  • Some Toppish 2019 Bordeaux: Decanted in advance. Surprisingly drinkable with a dose of fine tannin at the end. Prominent fruit and prominent tannin here, not totally seamless. More burly than the PLL with the tannins having some austerity. Doesn’t strike me as needing 30+ years to hit peak like the 1989 or 1990. 93/94

  • intense, lovely, hearty wine that is drinkable but might flourish with a few more years--dark cherry, black plum, black currant, some lead and blackberry

1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comment

  • Black fruit dominant, with charcoal, blackberry, soil, and bitter chocolate leading the charge. Dare I say “modern” on the attack, with a push of fruit and power at first, relaxing its flex halfway through execution, finishing aptly dry but still with a notable flavorhound salivary yum thing going on that holds interest. Yankee in the front, Parisian in the back. A little jammy and blocky overall, but a chewy bit o’ fun to be had even now in such an infant stage.

Decanted for a total of three hours, which helped ease the angularity of the back end, but didn’t manage to help fill out the mid palate so much at this juncture. Hold for a few years and hope it doesn’t shut down, or get more awkward, or whatever thing that happens to wine when we make excuses for its goofy behavior in the hopes it’ll get better.

Not a disappointing wine at all (though it may sound kinda like that), but rather a very good wine with a good QPR that is likely to improve with some bottle time. I love the dark gothic profile here. One of my favorite styles. 93-94+.

  • From a 375 ml bottle. Not decanted as the wine was surprisingly great from the start. One of the best young wines for a long time. Young and primary (as expected) yet you can already sense the complexity and potential it will have with 10 more years. I tasted the wine during 4 hours. Towards the end of the bottle it became more tannic and slightly bitter. Based on this experience, I would decant the wine only briefly at the moment (larger formats maybe more). 93-94 pts. at the moment with a lot of potential.

  • UGC 2019 Singapore (Singapore): Not at the level of the Pichon Lalande preceding it. Tighter on a more sinewy palate. Good length but clearly shorter than PL. 93+

  • Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2019 Vintage Tasting, Singapore: Tasted at UGC Bordeaux 2019 tasting in Singapore.

Very impressive. Excellent balance with a touch of bright acidity, adding real vibrancy.

Deep and precise. Already beginning to show off a complex structure. Notes of cassis and dark cherry and a lovely struck flint tertiary note underpinning the fruit.

This needs time for sure, and I imagine there will be a wealth of complexity, layers and many different notes to enjoy when this is fully mature.

The highlight of the UGC tasting for me; having never had an excellent Lynch-Bages before but having been told that it really performs well in excellent vintages, this was a treat.

Scored because it is already so impressive and will almost certainly improve with age. Anticipated range 94-97.

  • Mocha, hint of violet, blackberry, bit of pepper and savoury, graphite and herbal. Quite textural and bold, rough tannin, need another few years.

  • exquisite wine--still young but super refined and linear...decanted for an hour...a little closed, medium bodied and refined but just playful and nice. Dark plum and inky.

  • I popped open one of these as I just got my '19 futures delivered and thought I'd try a handful. This was a stunner and a sharp contrast to the half bottle of '19 Pontet Canet I had the night before. This was so visceral, inviting and incisive. While young, it wasn't overtly tannic or closed but vibrant and full of personality. I can see why JD gave this 100pts. One of the best Bordeaux I've had in a long time. I've fond memories of a case of '88 I finished a long time ago. This has power but nothing overwhelming. Frankly this is far more inviting than even the '10 Pontet Canet and '10 Haut Bailly which I've had recently. Kept half the bottle to try tomorrow. 98++pts.
Finished this on the 2nd night after vacuum-seal - it held up well but lost some of the liveliness, freshness and vibrancy it had on the first evening.

  • A strapping, muscular Lynch that has to buy its clothes in the Big & Tall shop. It's super-tannic of the sort that doesn't just surface as structure but feels like it's infusing every molecule of the juice from the inside out. For now the fruit is primary and dense enough that it saturates the palate notwithstanding the effort of the tannin to dry it out, but it does seem likely to close up hard and need a lot of time. The fruit is all red berries and actually lighter in tone than some prior vintages notwithstanding its richness. The aromatics feature a big blast of Pauillac cedar in the early going but turn more reticent with airtime.

  • Knocked out by L-B 19 - incredibly impressed by the skills behind it. Deep, dark, dense, purple edges in appearance. Nose is v explicit, intense, powerful - bursting with black and blue fruits, cassis, blackberries, blueberries, smoke, spice. Palate is massively impressing already in mid-2022 - full-bodied, v intense, grippy tannic structure - yet so velvety, precise concentration in fruit, good acidity, elegance and purity in excess. Finish - spicy, dry, intriguing, layered - goes on forever. Smasher of the year!

  • Union des Grands Crus: Demure nose, but a downright delicious blackcurrant, graphite palate. Despite its considerable tannin (one of the most tannic at the UGC), there is a real depth and succulence to this. A classic Lynch really not showing heat at this stage. Bravo. 94-95.

  • Im going to bitch a bit here...Im no "corked wine baby"...especially with Bordeaux. The initial nose of so many older Bordeaux are fooling. But there's no denying scents of mildew coming off the top. The funny part, all the newbies were happily oohing and ahhing...Go figure. But under it all, there is no denying that this wine a powerhouse. I will hold back judgement until I try again. But this, is a BUY!

  • UGC Bordeaux (Union Station - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Powerhouse vintage with great density and intensity. Like almost all Lynch Bages, patience is required, this is faintly hinting at balance and its ultimate greatness, probably from 2034 forward, 94-95 point potential, one of my highlights of the day.

  • UGC NY; 6/28/2022-6/29/2022: Estate representative said this wine's historical reference point would be the 1990 (but need to wait and see in 20 years). An excellent vintage and I am sad I did not buy enough/buy mags.

  • Tatsed at the UGC event in NYC. This wine is stunning. A big black wine that just jumps from the glass with flowers, black fruits and dark plumbs. A smokey rich drink that includes pencil shavings licorice and cashmere like tannins paired with a huge structure. A sence of freshness makes this wine alive. A great vintage for LB

  • I know, it’s waaay to early but who can wait forever? Lucky me I have more and thus felt NO guilt whatsoever popping this one.

Decanted for a few hours, prepared some locally produced entrecôte and had a really good time. Some say 2019 is the best L-B ever made. I don’t know, but I DO know I love this stuff! 95p+ easily. I need more…

  • Even better in the bottle than it was in barrel, clearly, the 2019 is in contention for the best vintage of Lynch Bages ever produced! And that is really saying something considering all the fabulous wines that have come from the property over the last several decades. Almost opaque in color, the wine explodes from the glass with black currants, espresso, blackberries, wet earth, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and cedar. As if that wasn't enough for your senses, your palate is coated with layers of perfectly ripe, rich, dense, dark, red fruits, touches of spice, plums, blueberries, licorice, espresso, and a tiny touch of dark chocolate on the backend. This is intense, concentrated, long and expansive, and importantly, a great candidate for long aging. Drink from 2030-2065.

  • Black fruits enrobed in - a front and center - menthol. Herbs and flowers also provide interest to the fascinating nose. Very agressive, round silty tannins provide structure and the fruit comes across as clean dark fruits and dark chocolate. The finish was incredibly long. Loved it

  • Arvi Bordeaux 2019 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasting of 25 wines (2 whites, 3 sweet, no first growths) at a Bordeaux 2019 in the bottle event. My observations were: i/ the tannic structure was soft and well-integrated across the board, ii/ the fruit was generally fresh and light with no heavy-handed extractions, iii/ Top wines were Client (97), Léoville Barton (96) and Smith Haut Lafitte (96). More thoughts and list of wines included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Lush and polished with ripe red and dark cherry fruit and cassis, herbs and minimal imprint from oak. Intense palate, well-built and firmly structured. A muscular Lynch Bages that will need quite a few years to settle down.

  • Bordeaux 2019 - 15 red / 2 white / 4 sweet wines: UCG Arrivage Tasting. A few observations on the red wines: 1) Overall quality: 2019 is indeed another great vintage for Bordeaux reds. The quality was good across the board. 2) Ripeness: 2019 is less ripe than 2015/2018. Out of 15 wines only one (Gazin) showed overripe. But 2016 still wins in this category with the freshest and purest fruit expression. 2019 is in between 2015/2016. 3) Complexity: 2019 will not reach the heights of 2016 but is almost on par with 2015/2018, although the latter one will need to flesh out for quite some time reveal all nuances. 4) Precision: I found superb precision in many wines, however, again not on the level of 2016. 5) Structural frame: The tannins are ripe and very fine, the acidity is generally high (but not as high as in 2016), the texture is nicely airy (unlike with many 15s/18s), no alcohol heat (a problem in 2018) and the wines are very harmonious. 6) Best wines tasted were a magical Canon (96+ pts), a superb Leoville Barton (95 pts). Unfortunately, they were all out of Pichon Lalande - supposedly one of the wines of the vintage.

TN: This is a stunning wine. It shines bright with an expressive, intense nose and palate full of superbly fresh and pure blue, dark and black fruit, cedar, herbs, minerality. While very complex, the best part is the very high precision. The tannin structure is very Pauillac and masculine and will need time to further soften but there is no question about the luxurious quality of the tannins. The acidity is high and very well integrated, the texture is fine and slightly airy (but not comparable to the Canon or some of the more elegant Pauillacs - think Pichon Comtesse), the finish is quite impressive and long. I have no doubt that this vintage can reach the 95+ point category (at its peak probably even 97 pts). Today 94-95 pts.

  • Inky in color, with purple around the edges, the nose grabs you with its showy perfume of peppery black fruits, cassis, forest floor, mushroom, cedar, and cigar wrapper. Concentrated, full-bodied and mouth-filling, the wine hits every pocket of your palate. The ripe, soft, vibrant fruits come in layers. The berries are dark black and energetic. There is a touch of dust in the endnote with more of those juicy, sweet, seemingly never-ending black fruits. This hangs with the best vintages ever produced at Lynch Bages! 96-98 Pts
