Lovely and fragrant nose with lots of depth, floral notes, cherries, and strawberries. Good acidity and quite full on the palate with more strawberry notes, a hint of cinnamon, tart fruit, and cherries. Long finish. This was really really good with nice complexity. Lovely wine!

Old! Old but good. Old fruit and endless interest. Profoundly moving. Acidic and tannic - surely capable of many more years of pleasure. So many inner tensions all happily resolved. Terrific. Unforgettable.
Very Dujac spicy and stalky nose. There is black fruit there but it’s hiding. Very nice on the palate, black fruits, tannin and acidity, fresh and intense, good balance. Nice wine but the house style completely overwhelms vineyard expression.

First tasted a decade ago at a Burgundy tasting in 2010. Loved it immediately and went out to buy a case. Have been following its development over the last decade and was disappointed on 3-4 tries. Nevertheless, it is here again. PNP, some oxidative tertiary notes of toffee on first pour, some development. Intense nose of rose with a bit of tart on first sips. An hour later, it was a completely different wine and sang it did. Red cherry, raspberry, red current. Medium to full body. Perfectly balanced by fruits and sweetness in front and acidity and ripe tannins at the back, and the nose gained intensity till the very last sip. The finish was medium to long too. A very strong showing and a very delicious, enjoyable bottle. Finally coming together perhaps. Reminds one the reason why we keep looking for that elusive bottle of Burgundy. Can drink now and will still improve with age.

Malconsorts dinner with Zachys crew - also 05 Truchot CC, 99 Selosse, 90 Jadot BM & etc. (Blue Duck Tavern - Washington D.C.): Perhaps the most concentrated and sweetest of the flight. More black fruit compare to the 05, blackberry, cherry, dark spices, tree bark and earth. Excellent concentration, rich and oily, decadent black fruit driven palate impression, medium acidity, good mineral presence and a long dark fruit driven finish. It remains very youthful and need another five to ten years to reach the youthful peak. Very impressive wine with a great future ahead.

Light bricking. Whole bunch nose from a mile away, still green but not overpowering. Vosne spiciness on nose and palate. A nice wine, but concentration dips mid-palate. Hard to describe, but there's a slight "gap" that's left wanting.

Vosne 1er Cru Dinner (Nikki's): Superb. This still has many, many years ahead of it, but it has sure developed nicely since the last bottle I tried some 5 years ago. It had a very Dujac nose, with complex whole-cluster aromas of stems and spices alongside deep aromas dark cherries and berries and a little meatiness running along behind. The palate rich, deep, almost viscous in texture, with plenty of Grand Cru-like weight and intensity, but it was also very fresh and bright for a 2006, bearing an effortless strength and an almost a cool reserve to deep reservoir of cherry and berry flavours. It had a powerful, finish too, with fine boned tannins lending great shape begind notes of herb and spice and a bit of coffee-grounds. Still a juvenile, but this was a serious, noble expression of Malconsorts, with the structure and fruit to age for just about forever. I get a feel that it is just about starting to fall asleep - this is one to perhaps lock up in the cellar and forget about for the next 8-10 years.

The Verticals Tasting at La Paulée 2016 (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Tawny. Much riper nose than the 2009, very slight stemminess. Cherry as opposed to the strawberry of that wine, menthol, soil, moderately tannic. Just doesn't seem to have the wafting appeal and laciness of the '09.

BORGOGNA 2015; 2/22/2015-3/22/2015: Tasting at the domaine. Gomma bruciata, peperoni arrosto ed erbe aromatiche. Naso maturo e tanto spazio alla terziarizzazione dei raspi. Bocca soave e morbida, medio corpo sostenuto dalla grana tannica.
A Ledbury lunch (The Ledbury): Bright ruby. Lovely nose, dark red fruit, spice and an almost rose-like florality. Sweet-fruited attack, really quite round and lush and giving. Densely silky texture. A little more exuberant than the 02 Ruchottes alongside, currently a good-time rather than cerebral wine, but none the worse for that. Quite the opposite. This is satisfying and sexy and with a more serious core of dark red fruit, ripe tannins and fresh acidity for the future. It's great fun now though. ****1/2

AW's birthday dinner (Jade Palace): Another pretty wine. Perfumed nose, plenty of spices too. Red-fruited profile on palate. Good fruit-weight (flavorful) - silky, lithe and elegant at the same time. I liked the Vogue BM for its exoticness, and this for its beauty.

Translucent ruby. Pretty floral and dark fruited nose. Can only be a Vosne. Great intensity on the spice infused palate though still maintains its airiness. Not a big scaled wine but lithe on its feet. Extremely transparent for the vintage. Very seductive and balanced, and I can now understand why Dujac is so popular.

Nose is loaded with spice along with hints of dark cherry fruit. Palate is in a pretty good spot - smooth and balanced. Finishes again with a lot of spice and at least initially some medicinal red cherry, though this dissipated with time open. Overall this comes off as kind of one-dimensional and definitely lacks nuance. Enjoyable for sure, but somewhat lacking in complexity or interest.

A nice wine. A little tight. Nose of blue fruit, but not overwhelming. Layers of blue fruit on the palate that got deeper as it had been open for closer to 3 hours. Never dense or rich, but pretty, with a finish of 30-45 seconds. Would I buy more? Not sure. My guess is that in a couple of years this will be very nice, though.

A Few Meals in Burgundy; 6/30/2013-7/5/2013: Bright red fruit aromas with intriguing baking spice, also slightly perfumed. Lots of both "Vosne" and "Dujac" character, with slightly more emphasis on Vosne. Ripe red fruit on palate as well with similar spice and brown sugar hints. Forward and accessible like many 2006s but with great balance and overall elegance. A sensational accomplishment for the first complete vintage producing this wine.

Rick's 50th birthday notes and my 10,000th post!; 11/24/2012-11/27/2012 (Chateau Rick): Just a beast of a good wine. Wonderfully balanced from the get go with plenty of acid and fruit that integrates perfectly with the classic dujac stem. Doesn't have the all powerful vosne spice blowing out on the nose, but it's present and mixed well with the red berries. Still has so much time in this wine as the density of the fruit carries so welland it's only beginning to show what it's truly made of.

Dense concentrated ripe dark fruit throughout the palate. Doesn't quite have the secondary characteristics of the 07 where you get hints of earthy, sap but the multiple layers of fruit add on such complexity to the palate and when you combine it with the soft texture of the wine and the deft medium weight, it's a great wine to appreciate now. I would have loved if the finish had a touch more acid as the structure was round and opulent and it would have really carried balanced well with the fruit.

Burghound in Asia Grand Tasting (St. Regis Hotel, Singapore): This was very good indeed. The nose was rather tight, showing some funky soild notes and a whiff of sweet cherries but nothing much in the way of complexity. The palate was really solid though. After the sweet fruit on the nose, it had a surprisingly savoury backdrop, not quite meaty, not earthy either, more umami-ish. This was a very nice counterpoint to the still primary sweet dark fruit and black cherry flavours that spread across the palate on a bed of melting tannins and beautifully fresheness. The zippy acidity laced the wine all the way into the long, detailed finish which filled the mouth with fresh fruit notes. There was a really good sense of structrue all around that bodes very well for the wine's future. Excellent stuff.

Popped and poured at the end of a long dinner, so it didn't get too much time to open. Sweeter and more cloying than previous bottles. Still very accessible for a youngster. I like Dujac's Malconsorts, and the 06 vintage is a good example.

Commanderie Pre-Dinner (Restaurant Vincent, Minneapolis): Popped and poured. Very promising, but quite shut down at the moment. Enticing, but reticent nose of leaf-tinged dark fruit. The palate shows sweet dark cherries and complex spices, in a velvety, creamy-textured package. Suave, supple tannins and a long finish. I would wait at least 5 years to touch these.

Tasted blind, not the customarily big Dujac, this wine got more grace and finesse, still some candied fruit on the nose, but after an hour everything is more together. Performed an infanticide, am sure this will be a much better wine in 4-5 years+. Today the wine is pretty backward, palate closed up but with nice minerality at the end, just a hint of how good this will be.

A stunning, grand cru-level Malconsorts, and so seamlessly put together that you don't even feel the stemmy spine that's the usual signature of Dujac. Instead, it's just supple, velvety, totally classy pinot noir, with richer fruit than many producers were able to pull off this vintage (and much richer than the '07 version of the same) -- giving the material here the breadth to hit every nook and cranny of the palate. The spice-bazaar characteristics one usually associates with the site are only mildly evident through the fruit, so the distinction here comes more from its perfect finesse and harmony than anything exotic about the flavor. The word "soothing" in David Schildknecht's review is totally appropriate.

Drank the 05 and 06 sided by side tonight. The 06 is a very good wine, albeit a bit soft for so young a wine. Interestingly, when drinking through the 06 Dujacs at the domaine, this was my second favorite after Chambertin. I own and would buy more at its price point, but its a level shy of rock star. The 05 on the other hand is staggering. Lots of stuffing for the long haul, but lots of fruit that shines through right now. Love it.

La Paulee de San Francisco - The Verticals (RN74 - San Francisco CA): Vertical tasting, brief note. Lots of fat red and black cherry, lots of spice. Very Dujac in that regard. So complex on the nose it was hard to even take a sip- dried cherries, raspberry, broken sticks, a touch of spice, earthy, clove. On the palate the wine is tight but opened up to very fresh tasting cherry and boysenberry and even young is has great balance, soft tannins and great soil/slate character. Loving '06 Burgundies as they are drinking great now and will be an early drinking vintage while waiting for the '05s to mature!

Wine While Eating Well in Burgundy; 4/26/2010-4/30/2010 (Cote d'Or): Plenty of red fruit with charming spice peaking out but this came across as slightly awkward right now but great medium-term potential. Didn't quite get enough air, how could it? Not as interesting as same wine tried last month in SF.

Perhaps very ripe flavors, but I think this will get somewhat leaner with age. Great concentration and density help give me that level of confidence.

Philadelphia Wine Festival (Marriott, Philadelphia PA): I didn't know how expensive this was, but I figured it was well over $100... darn... fantastic wine! raspberry and root beer notes with a beautiful underlying earthiness. nicely balanced acid and soft tannins prelude a long finish. One of the best of the night.

The Eighth Annual Philadelphia Wine Festival (Philadelphia Marriott Downtown): Absolutely stunning wine. Tannic and tough right now. Time to go. Fruit earth and great complexity on the palate with a very long finish.
