(Disgorged in February 2010, 30% Pinot Noir and 70% Chardonnay, dosage 8 gr/L) Gentle pressure on the lengthy cork and showing a golden yellow colour with very fine bubbles rising slowly in the glass showing a mature nose with red apples, milk chocolate and minerals at first and opening up with lime citrus flowers in a very pleasant way. Nice and smooth on the palate showing yellow plums and butter. Some dried lime zest on the finish and with a pleasant minerals touch leaving a saltiness on the lips. (Best 2015-2025)

Fruit Day - gold in the glass. Plenty of spritz left. Minuscule bubble in a continuous stream. Nose is complex and wonderful - brioche, toast, apple (just slightly baked) along with a “je ne sais quoi” element that I can’t quite describe. Nuts, toast, butter, apple, pear, pastry on the palate with a very long finish of brioche and apple. Too enjoyable to spend much time writing a note.

Wine of the Night for Thanksgiving 2020. Seriously complete at this stage. What a joy to drink. Baked apple, fading citrus, rainier cherry, biscuit, and sweet peach. Great roundness, mouthfeel. Dry as a bone. Long finish. No need to age it longer. I found it to be delicious right now. Generous mousse, great perlage. Served with Thanksgiving truffle cheese course. Spot on.

Vinetasters: Special Clubs (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. There's a little bit of coconut on the nose here. This is clearly something with some serious age on it. Biscuity, sweet, and fairly complex. There's some brown elements on the back end as well, with some spice, nuts, and sweet biscuity flavours. I do wish that this had a little more breadth on the palate, but it is a fantastic wine nonetheless, and fully resolved for drinking now. My 5th, group's 4th.

Straw color in the glass with a yellow tinge. Lovely full and rich nose with baked pear, fresh pastry dough, lovely yeastiness and rich power. Pinot fruit coming through on the nose with some red apple skin, touch of graham cracker pie crust. Full bodied in the mouth with great palate presence, large framed and an absolute food wine. Starting to pick up a small touch of honeyed and an aged character. Enjoyable now and should continue to drink well for some time.

Just a killer champagne. I tasted this initially with Nicolas Chiquet at the family home. Great acidity, white plums and pears, flowers, truffled honey and bread dough. This bottle was brought to Husk in Nashville as part of an incredible meal..Paired perfectly with shrimp and grits, crispy chicken skin, and johnnie cakes with chipped beef and pimento cheese.

Excellent champagne (see previous notes) that is perfectly balanced with lush fruit and acidity. Just great enjoyed at Bistro Campagne in Lincoln Square with a carmelized onion streudel and brandade croquettes. Fell in love with this champagne while visiting Nicolas Chiquet in Dizy and have a been a big fan ever since. I adore this vintage of the Club.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity. The acidity is very refreshing, but it is noticeable too with pears, red apples, brioche, yeasty tones, biscuits, and some white florals on the back end.
Overall: This was drinking very well. There was a freshness to it with excellent balance. This can certainly develop further, but it is very attractive right now.

N: restrained, green apple, peach, citrus, a touch of almond or butterscotch. P: Flinty. Just off-dry. Really pleasant mouthfeel. Apple, stone, almost a metallic note there, and almond on the mid-palate, then lingering for 20 seconds or more. Takes some attention but there is a lot to like here.

Fine, persistent mousse. Clear, bright, medium lemon. Despite being disgorged in 09, I only get just a hint of yeast. Lemon, Asian pear, caramel notes dominant. On the palate, vinous, showing the ripe vintage. Medium (plus) finish with some nutty notes. Medium body. Medium plus acidity. Well-balanced if not particularly complex.

Eyesintime brought this to an offline last weekend while visiting Chicago from Ohio. Medium yellow color. Solid bead. Playdough aromas (noticed first by Allred). Much younger tasting than the 1998 Lassalle Special Club but not nearly as deep. Notes of peach, citrus, flint and minerals. 4th Chiquet SC that I've had this year. I liked this better than the 2005 and about as much as the 2004. No rush to drink. 92 points.

WOW! Holy crap this was fabulous. I really didn't like this much in its youth, but the benefit of buying by the case is that there's always more hanging around. Dark like many 2000 champagnes, this one has great balance between acidity+structure but has some really satisfying ripe white fruit notes (pear?) despite having good textural roundness and hint of biscuit on the finish (I guess that's the pinot).
Just a *really* enjoyable bottle of champagne, more so than a lot of young presige cuvees I've had in the last few weeks (Dom03, GrandDame04, Comtes 02)

Another Saturday at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage, Chicago IL): Nose: Very well balanced with good depth and delicious tones of meyer lemons, red apples, biscuits, pears, and some brioche. There is nice layering on the nose with some maturity creeping in.
Taste: There is a refined balance to the medium body with medium+ acidity. The structure isn't intruding with round and layered tones of meyer lemons, red apples, biscuits, and brioche.
Overall: This is starting to hit it's stride. It has good structure to let it continue development, but is showing extremely well right now.

I thought this was great. Subtle nose leads to a very clean palate, clear fruit, direct and linear rather than broad. Even better with some air, when white florals emerge, along with light yeast. Lovely and shows some maturity even though I though this was showing much better and more focused after being open for 4h (a little dull when first opened). A nice mix of citrus and red berries wrapped in biscuity, yeasty envelop. Balanced, started to show some minerality towards the end. Rich. Disorged Dec 2009. 70% Chard - 30% PN

This Gaston Chiquet Special Club was certainly drinking a little bit better than my last bottle and seemed to have more complexity and depth. Overall, this is a very nice champagne that seemd to be open and fully mature (not the case with the last bottle). The palate revealed a silky texture and flavors of ripe citrus, poached pears, green apples, honey, biscuits and a touch of caramel. While the acidity is there, this fells like it has lower acidity than many of the champagnes that I have consumed recently. Maybe the lower acidity is due to the 2000 vintage? If purchased at the right price (below $50), this champagne will not dissapoint and is an easy buy.

It is clear that this champagne is much more chardonnay based than pinot. It has a nice crispness to it with mature green apples, nice minerality and good acidity. It also had a little bit of spice that came through on the finish. This is drinking well right now, but it should open up further with additional bottle age. This is an excellent champagne for the price we paid ($35), but I would not pay the standard list price in the $60 to $65 range.

(BLIND) This was simple at first but opened up with air later on to really reveal its complexity. Now, I brought the bottle, so I might have had some label/expectation bias. It slowly opened up to reveal very crisp, flowery aspects on a gorgeously elegant structure with a long finish. Beautiful.

A fantastic wine! combines high acidity with a long finish. This full bodied juice can stand to food or be drunk on its own with great pleasure. A pleasant nose of bread and grape jelly; in the mouth, a lemony attack morphing in into an intense vinous and tropical fruit finish. Not an ethereal champagne, but still very classy.

Burgundy $20-$35 (AWG @ KBs): Lots of minerals driving this, with lemon/lime, nuttiness. Very spherical in the mouth. The acids are very soft, the lemon/lime more creamy than tart. Also ripe apple peal, more nuttiness. I enjoyed this quite a lot. 91-92

Special Club Champagnes (Hi-Time Wine Cellars - Costa Mesa, CA): Attractive baked stone fruit texture to the nose with additional aromas of apple and mint. The palate is very different with a fatter texture and almost cheesy flavors of saline, nuts, spices, and yellow fruits. The structure is softer than the other wines but the wine is balanced with really unique character. I am assuming this wine sticks out so much because of the characteristics of the 2000 vintage.

Nice color with fine mousse, and tight bead. Nose of pear, nectarine, and toasted. This is more focused and less opulent than the 1999. Restrained orchard fruit notes with crisp acidity and crunchy minerality. I agree with the note below that describes this as less sappy than other GC wines, but I think it is still a fine Champagne with a great finish and a perfect foil for food.

The Other Great French Blancs: Champagne and Sauternes (Wink Restaurant, Austin, Texas): Calm bubbles, looked like chardonnay (lemon with gold flecks), had a bouquet of warm yellow fruits, yeast, saline, some honeysuckle, green apple. Smooth and lightly creamy, with medium acidity, this had pronounced green apple flavors, noted by many tasters—under-ripe green apple, green apple skin, baking green apple, very intense green apple, and just green apple. Oh, and under-ripe yellow pear…… Some thought this finished with some citrus notes, chiefly lemon zest and meyer lemon, with some chalk/limestone minerality. Had very good length and a drew some good applause: “incredibly yummy,” “let’s drink it,” “delicious,” “lean and clean and doesn’t taste old.” Not the favorite by any means in this flight, but very well regarded and recommended.

4 Champagnes plus: The groups WOTN and mine. At around $40, a great buy! Golden in color. Big nose with seltzer and some lime notes. A hint of sweetness on the palate, but complex and mineral driven for the most part. Nice balance. Complex. Long finish. And, delicious. Stupid bottle shape though.

Exceptional. Drank on the patio in Cabo Pulmo on our 1st anniversary. Rich, golden, and round but a laser beam of minerality and acidity that balances perfectly. Mushroom and Brioche on the nose with fresh cut herbs. Granny smith green apple on the attack. Transition to crisp, clean, stoney minerality on the mid-palatte, and finished with more green apple and some caramel. This is big and round, but still very clean with tremendous balance. It seems to be gaining in size as we drink it. I will purchase more and hold. This is how Champagne should taste.

Drink with a stuffy nose and not under the best conditions. No score. Strong green apple and some citrus. Medium bead. The nose was somewhat restrained and this was not a stunner by any means, but pretty good bottle.

What a treat! Nose of minerals, slight floral notes and yeast. Palate of honey, yeast and lemon lime. Beautifully integrated flavors and acidity. Wow.

not a particulary great value at $60, but a very good bottle nonetheless. also, bottle is too wide to fit in eurocave, which is annoying.

Brisk, high toned lemony nose with some hints of flint. On the palate it is super fresh clean and complex. Some hints of toast and cream with a nice long finish and some astringency.

Delicious! Nice green apple/pear notes with mild minerality and citrus. Rich with pleasant acidity. Strong, vibrant perlage. Less dry than some bruts, not not actually an off-dry or sweet champagne. Very drinkable now.

Gorgeous rich and dense wine. Long dark finish. Awesome layers of fruit, nuts and rock.
Caramel, molasses. It has everything. A well structured beautiful wine.

Good champagne at a reasonable price. The mousse was a bit sharp but ok. Lots of aroma at first but it faded out. Bread and citrus and apples fruits, yeast. Some maturity. Taste with nice acidity and fruitiness. Citrus with some red grapefruit, red apples, fudge, bread. Medium length.

Surprisingly little smell on the nose and the taste was also very thin. Despite this it was a nice bottle, and with some more years of maturing I think it will be much better.
