Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 95.8 points

  • Wine Spectator Grand Tour (Las Vegas, NV): Comprised entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon that saw 16 months in 100% new American oak, the 2021 iteration of Penfolds Bin 707 is a young bruiser that is packed with black currants, morello cherries, baking spices, espresso, eucalyptus and bittersweet chocolate in a full-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%), heavily oaked frame. With a backbone of plentiful grippy tannins that build on the mid-palate and lengthy finish, this is one for the cellar. There is no denying the potential of this bottling, but time will be required in order for the oak and tannins to assimilate. If this fleshes out as anticipated, a higher score will ultimately be merited. Drink 2027-2051.

  • Tasted at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans. This is plush, rich, and definitely “new world”. Not sure it’s worth the price tag, but it’s certainly good. 63 cases imported to USA.

  • Australia Trade Tasting (Lindley Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls): Heavy toast on the nmose, alcohol warmth (14.50%), herbal notes, thick oak frame, palate juicy, black fruit, youthful, berries and currants, tight tannins, long finish

  • Penfolds Online tasting: So dark and inky. Nose is more forward, loads of cassis and dark plum jam. Palate is full bodied and sweet, very ripe, but with firm dry tannins and very juicy acidity. Loads of blackcurrant on the palate, maybe with some dark plum and cherry, not sure I've had a more blackcurrant driven wine - even the finish is loaded with currants. Love this, tastes absolutely beautiful now but will no doubt get way better. There are absolutely no minty or green notes that I often get with currant driven cabs, this is pure fruit. Finish is long and dry with firm tannins that were not immediately apparent on the taste (because of the fruit). Excellent length. Beautiful wine.

  • This wine is aged for 18 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads (300 liters). Beautifully ripe fruits which can handle the new American oak and sweet spices in the bouquet. On the palate very juicy red and black berries and sweet spices, great acidity and round tannin and an enormous length. Very great and luxurious, beautiful wine. Drink it now or between 2040 and 2050+ with your (grand)children. 96 – 97+
