  • My second encounter with this wine and it is as much of a stunner as I remember (from a decade ago). Tasted as part of a mini-vertical with '75, '95 and '00 (a '67 was sadly maderized). This is a near-perfect expression of BDX, with cedar box, tobacco and spice notes on a leathery frame. Cassis and lead pencil, a bit rustic and slightly herbal, but balanced and just beautiful. Hands down WOTN.

  • Wonderful on the nose with so.e herb and spice and wonderful fruit. Just delicious off the cork pull

  • DC Dinners and Tastings; 2/24/2024-2/26/2024 (Washington, DC): Fully tertiary on the nose. Mushrooms pencil shavings, dried bay leaf, dust, smoke, tomato leaf with a hint of dried blackcurrants/cassis on the nose. If you reconstituted dried porcini mushrooms, then smoked the result; that's exactly what this smells like. Intensity of aromas is still medium +. Fruitier on the palate, adding stewed cooked blackberries and black currants to all of the tertiary notes from the nose. Medium + intensity of flavors. Finishes shorter than I'd have liked, though.

Medium + body with low acid; but some medium - tannins still hanging on. Short finish. Overall the structure is a little off but body is good!

From what I have read about the vintage, I think that this was probably always chubby. It likely never had much acid. Declining here in 2024; but still very drinkable.

  • The fill was top shoulder, and the cork was saturated all the way to the top, but sound. Double decanted two hours before dinner. Deep garnet with some bricking at the rim. Outgoing aromatics, with notes of brambly black fruits, barnyard, forest floor, black truffle and cigar box. Medium bodied, with a surprisingly velvety texture, good depth, and a long and focused finish. A bit rustic compared to modern Bordeaux. I can’t imagine this will improve, but I expect this bottle would hold at peak maturity for at least another five years in a cold cellar.

  • This wine was really elegant and special. Followed the advice from a Dec.2023 review pairing with grilled steak and was not disappointed.
