Drank at the Sarasota Commanderie partager event. Beautifully integrated wine with all the parts in absolutely the right place. Still bright pauillac notes alongside the dark fruit and hints of tar and pencil, medium+ finish. Starting to show some secondary characteristics but nothing tertiary yet. Amazing bottle but I felt it to be a bit softer than I was expecting.

Bob’s bottle. A beautiful wine which has left its exuberant primary phase behind and entered its early secondary phase. Deep ruby. The bouquet is still trying to make up its mind since it no longer is bursting with cherry berries and is developing earth, expresso and olive notes. We could see the family resemblance to the dazzling ‘61 version. “Mouton je suis.”

At selby’s - could have used more time in decanter. Nose was complex and touch of ocean and smoke. Soft and velvety on the pallette, a bit reserved but very enjoyable.

Mouton Rothschild Vertical: Finally drank the iconic 2000 bottle after drinking so many vintages of Mouton. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, violet, toast and spices. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Did not decant. Pop and pour. Just entered its drinking window with potential to improve.
Reserved in character, at close to 24 years old, the wine doesn’t offer the flamboyant character the best vintages of Mouton provides. Instead, you find a more austere, classic rendition of Pauillac with a focus on its bright currant, cedar, cigar wrapper and spicy profile. Concentrated and firm on the palate, 1-2 hours of air will help the wine in your glass. Drink from 2023-2055. .
