Decanted 30 minutes before tasting. Old world style with mature black fruits, subtle spice, braised meat, and faint earth. Help steady for an hour+ in glass. Very good now.

Half Century Magnum Lunch (La Trompette) (London): From Magnum. Delighted this was in great condition as bought via auction. The colour was a surprise as still deep and dense, sitting quite comfortably next to the 2009 and 2013. Nose full of green pepper and very much a Bordeaux ringer. Not sure I loved it and stood out next to the Verite and Ridge. It may have done better in a more Bordeaux focussed flight. 13.5% still going quite strongly.

Magnum Mike's Half Century Blow Out (La Trompette): Top drawer old Cali Cab. On the nose - some cedar, pencil lead, just a whiff of brett perhaps? Some discussion as to whether one would be able to tell this blind from Bordeaux - sometimes I thought yes, sometimes I thought no, either way - a treat and a half.

Magnum Mike's Magnificent Half Century (La Trompette): Magnum. Soft and savoury, with the cigar box on the nose and relative austerity making this a plausible ringer for a Left Banker. Balanced and easy to enjoy, with some green notes and plenty of salinity (maybe slightly too much).
