Still going strong for a wine that is getting close to 70 years of age. With more earth, truffle and tobacco than fruit, as is to be expected, the wine showed softness in its texture, finishing with a sweet and tart, red berry, spice and wet earth note. If this is the bottle you need for a birth year, save it until 2020, else drink up.

The Fine Wine Experience Classic Claret II (Restaurant The Square **, London): En pleine forme, beautiful bright red fruit, combines elegance and finesse with considerable power, weightier than both the Trotanoy 1971 and the Pétrus 1971, tannins a bit rusty now, floral, cigar box, evolves towards cold tea. A very complete wine.
