Phew, this is all feral, animalic sauvage on the nose with tart leathery fruit, like one of those Bison jerky cranberry snack bars. More youthful than its 21 years would suggest, plenty of structure and acidity, garrigue, a marvelous food wine.
Side note: I threw a splash of '02 Dead Arm Shiraz into the a glass of this and it was a nice Beaucastel approximation, funky, wild, and wise.

I keep finding more of this and what a fun problem to have as this continues to show great. Pretty much in line with my last tasting note, great aromatics fro the get go but started to fade in the decanter about an hr and a half into it but by then it was almost gone. At 20 years of age this is definitly holding it's own

A surprise find in the cellar as I thought these were all gone, and it may have been the best bottle to date. Classic Mouvedre aromas of moist earth and garrigue on blue/red fruit dominate. Some other forest floor nuances and good grip but not heavy on palate. Clean (with out any barnyard animal) and very silky at this point, no decanting necessary but suggested for sediment removal. Easy to drink and surprisingly fresh. Went great with Chinese BBQ pork in 5 spice.

One of my few remaining wines purchased in Boston. Many have been bad (and I've had high variability with older Bandol), so I was pretty much ready for this to suck.
Just a beautiful example of an older Bandol. Leather, earth and garrigue. Actually pretty high acid (but not too spiky or jumpy) and the tannins were nicely resolved. In a great place.

Blind tasted, pop up and poured. The hue is turning from ruby to a light orange. First nose of cherry (the spirit) with sap and tar, second comes the back garden notes with cypress and wet earth flavors. Globally complex but not highly expressiv. Mouth a bit closed at he begining with forest strawberries, light licorrice, polish tannins and not a to strong alcohol ; quite balance . Matching perfectly a british pigeon with mushrooms (french recipe of course). After one hour the bandol clue became more obvious with liccorice, ink and sap. A noble wine at his peak. But it could be more based on finesse , with a little fat more for exemple, but could this appelation do so ? Tempier estate perhaps.
