From magnum: Pulled the cork (perfect condition) and checked the wine about 10:00 am. I put the cork back in and kept at cellar temp until 4:00 pm then slo-oxed until dinner at 8:00.
This was in great a drinking window. Mature leather and cigar box notes complimented still present dark fruit with a mineral lift.
Paired with wine braised beef shank gravy over campanelli pasta.
Holding up well in this format.

Interesting find. Nose smelled like rot, ass, yes, gross smelly ass, and mint, marginally bareable. No tannins or fruit left. Fair amount of bricking, almost orange tint. Dill, pickle juice and oak on the palate, again no fruit. Interesting experience though one not soon repeated.

5 Cabernet Sauvignons tasted from the 1980s. Nose of menthol, leather, cassis, grilled red bell pepper, blackberry, and fig, same on the palate, improved throughout the evening although the bell pepper was more evident after two hours, big body, delicious and elegant, long finish. My #3 of 5. 1984 Caymus Estate 1985 Spottswoode 1987 Beringer Private Reserve 1987 Silver Oak Alexander Valley 1987 Chateau Montelena

San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 3/1/2013 (Sbicca Restaurant, Del Mar, California): Decanted. Clear medium garnet color. After three classic Bordeaux bottles showing their aristocratic restraint and sophistication, here was a wonderful example of New World exuberance. Initial whiff of dill, followed by a bonanza of tart cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, and currants in all their sun-drenched glory. Light oak. Full body, beautifully balanced, long finish.
