had this the night after opening it; was delicious. when the bottle isnt premoxed, these are great value and high quality. lemon curd, def on the light body side, great minerality, crushed seashell notes, good finish.

quite big and bold for a CDP; lots of stuffing in this despite being 14 yrs old. more red than dark fruit but medium + bodied, long finish. had this at the end of a night but almost wish we had it with the steak at dinner rather than the night cap

wow lots to love about this; had this vs a weathereye Estate Red Mountain Grenache 2020. this was better - more complex yet staying lighter and more medium bodied versus the grenache which was a tad blockier. pretty minerality lacing through this. wish i had more in my cellar

side by side with a littorai Roman Vineyard pinot 2014; this showed well; it fooled many on which was french and which was CA; to me this had a bit more strawberry/raspberry and hay and barnyard funk; the finish was a bit more clipped and sort of fell off vs the littorai; fun comparison and this held up well for a village

poured at a 15 person wine tasting i was hosting; side by side with a Remoissenet Gevrey village 2012. this was quite even as people liked them both and flip flopped on which was from france and which was from the US. this is def lithe, has some tannic grip; has enough secondary funk that it wasnt super clear which was which.

poured this vs a dumol chloe chard 2021; this was restrained, mineral, lemon notes, good acidity. for a premier cru chassagne it was solid but not spectacular and the dumol chloe outshone this by quite a bit

hosted a 15 person wine tasting and poured this in a blind tasting; def fooled many on what it was but everyone enjoyed it. def earth and tobacco like notes around the red fruit; most preferred the Altamura cab 07 to this but it was still enjoyed by many

Decanted 90 minutes. super grippy tannins; darker fruit, mushroom, forest floor, tar, anise; with a rich pasta the tannins softened and this really hit its stride. def needs a decant; not sure those tannins will ever fully resolve as there is a trade off of the fruit declining with age vs the tannins softening. probably recommend drinking but see if a longer decant will help smooth out the finish; or just make sure you have this with fairly rich food!

had this many weeks ago with friends at the end of a yummy dinner. we all loved it. def a compelling value relative to Sauternes. plenty of cinnamon, honeyed apple. perhaps a tad lighter in body and less mouth coating than a sauternes but super enjoyable as an end to a meal with dessert

this may have been the sneaky WOTN nestled after a Henri Boillot Corton Charlemagne to start and a side by side 03 Cos vs 03 Montrose. I gave this two almost three hours of decanting time. it was what i love in red burg. super super lithe, elegant, haunting perfume of wet socks/wet hay and red fruit; lots of pretty strawberry and some raspberry notes with the wet hay nose; long finish despite the color being so so pale red. wish i had one more in my cellar

had many weeks ago; side by side with a 2003 Cos - both were fantastic. I admittedly recall liking both of them a lot but am vague on the exact differences. but for a maligned vinatage for being too hot, i recall we thought they were both superb

had a few weeks ago but recall this being a revelation that i have drunk my kistlers too young. this was very enjoyable. opened up and lots of fruit, not overt oak, good acididty to balance it all. very enjoyable mouthful and good medium bodied wine. went through a quick stretch finishing the last few 2014 kistlers i had and makes me think i wish i had a few more in my cellar. def not a white burg as this has more sweetness to the fruit but def better than i expected as i had historiclaly had most of my kistlers in year 3-5 post vintage year

enjoyable but werent able to let it open and hit its stride - or perhaps some bottle variation. didnt have the signature PYCM matchstick nose; very good acidity and minerality but could have used more fruit to elevate this.

this was WOTN - had a few weeks ago with friends - each person brought a bottle - this was decanted two hours - really really pretty fruit, good tobacco and pencil lead hints but very medium+ pretty bordeaux sensibility on this. a tad more fruit driven relfecting the hotter vintage and compared to a 2018 CA cab the complexity, elegance and enjoyment on this was much higher

had this a few weeks ago but recall really being surprised how well knit and integrated this was and how there was plenty of fruit left. had been in my cellar straight from release off their mailing list and it was in a great spot for consumption. def CA chard but the fruit, acididty were very balanced and polished

great QPR. had at the end of a decadent evening of food and wine with a pecan pie and vanilla ice cream and whip cream. cinnamon, honey apple with good crisp acidity. perhaps a tad lighter bodies than a sauternes but at that point in the evening, it was perfect for what we wanted

had a few weeks ago. side by side with an 05 Ducru Beaucaillou. had a two hour decant before we started on it and it just got better as it had more time in the glass. really tons of pretty layers of polished red cherry fruit with good acidity. long long finish. the ducru edged it in the beginning but this probably edged the ducru by the end. but both were superlative and i'll rate them both a 95 for now as my tasting notes are multi weeks old and from memory

had a few weeks ago. side by side of this with a 2012 Schrader LPV. wow loved them both. we decanted both for two hours and then had with dry aged rib eyes and NY Strips. def good punch to this - dense in color, powerful layers of fruit, pencil lead/tobacco on the nose and some of those savory herbs and well balanced acidity framing the red fruit on this. a medium+ bodied fuller St Julien and one that held its own vs a big CA cab

had a few weeks ago but rem this being incredibly lithe, strawberry and hay, very very light in color, good acidity and very drinkable. as the first red of the night it was terrific. might even buy more of these as i thought this was pretty compelling QPR which is rare in red burg.

from a few weeks ago. i recall this being very good but 1. probably too young to drink and 2. didnt give it enough time to open up and hit its full potential. not as much overt matchstick and reduction that i expect from PYCM and the fruit was good but not as lush as I expected from a CC. def bracing acidity and minerality with white stone fruit. but didnt scream Grand cru quality to me which I would have expected. i think letting these lay down and age longer and then giving them more time to open will be the best path.

had this a few weeks ago but my last few remaining Kistlers sadly highlight that I may have drunk many of these too young. i really enjoyed this - lots of fruit still left in it, and good acidity. time has dampened any overt oak. def not much minerality and fuller bodied so will not be mistaken for a white burg. but i really enjoyed this more than i expected

had a few weeks ago but this was excellent. lots of white stone fruit but good acidity and lots of minerality. def on the lighter side body wise but in a really good spot to be enjoyed now and probably will stay in a nice window for the next 1-2 yrs before the fruit starts to fade.

had this a few weeks ago. lots of juicy raspberry with good acidity. medium+ bodied and very slight tannic grip at the end. but very balanced and not over oaked or overdone on the alcohol. I think Ramey makes very polished balanced wines that reflect CA fruit but are not monstrous alcohol beasts and this was consistent with that. i dont see it getting better so def worth enjoying now

was in the mood for a big CA pinot and as usual, this lived up the billing. layers of sweet cranberry fruit with good acidity. terrific perfume. this is def not burgundian or lithe in style IMHO, but i enjoy it for what it is - very hedonistic, tons of polished fruit. def medium bodied and a great wine as long as you know thats the style of it.

amazing. pretty nose immed hits you with lemon, wet stones, reductive notes. The mouthful has such pretty lemon curd with terrific bracing acidity and racy minerality. Medium bodied with a very pretty long finish. Pretty much all i look for in a top notch Boillot white burg is found here IMHO. Big fan of Henri Boillot whites...

big, full and layers of fruit; had this next to a phelps insignia 2007; this was as to be expected more purple and dense in color; nose was more blueberry and darker fruit notes than the insignia; mouthful was such pure fruit but not overdone or garish in any way; long long finish and def more full bodied vs the insignia. i enjoyed them both for what they were as they were very different stylistically

loved this; had it next to a Schrader 2013 RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon. this was so elegant but still had fruit and power to not be overdone by the schrader. this had pretty cherry fruit, a sweet nose, more red ruby than the dark purple of the schrader. not bordeaux and most certainly CA in its sensibilities given the fruit; in a great drinking window now; not sure it will get better so best to enjoy it now as i think this is one where the fruit is a such a key part of the wine

this had some brighter fruit notes on the nose with some funk and earth; we had this side by side with a Littorai Haven Pinot - the mouthful really stood out as much fuller and very very tannic. the tannins were too much for me; i assume those will calm down with more bottle age and time. a bit brawny and a tad disjointed IMHO. feels like it could use five to ten more years to settle down, smooth its rough edges and gain more elegance
