Drank at Uncle Ned's OBTN, supplied by Mandy. Yellowish-gold in color. Nose of honey, peaches and quince. Fairly unctuous in weight but not fat or clunky, with exuberant amount of honey, apricot, quince & fig. Solid acidic core, great complexity & richness, and not too sweet. In fact, I'd call this off-dry. Loved this bottle!

Wow! First of 12 wines served blind by our host Ken K tonight.....
Dark gold in the glass, oxidized nose.
Palate of sweet oak with a decidedly saline back palate. The perfect balance between salty and sweet. This was one of my wines of the night. I have never been the beneficiary of an old sweet Chenin like this before! It completely confused me.....

Opened and poured. Deep yellow. Clean, unbotrytized orchard fruit. Medium body, not that glycerine for Chenin Blanc, and almost off dry rather than exceedingly sweet. Moelleux style wine, more rich than dessert level sweet. Reserved but excellent. I look forward to following this over the next 2 nights.
More liquoreux and high toned after being recorked overnight. Now more of a true dessert wine.

Wow, bottle 2 was absurdly better than bottle 1 two months ago. The acid was perfect on this one balancing the richness, raisin, dried apricot, and big caramel. Beautiful; I get it now.

NR because I’m just not a lover of sweet wines, even having tried plenty others of this tier. If rating, I’d give an 88-90. I would have liked more acid. Considerably better the next day and two days later, when it got a really nice caramel note. But I’d still take a good old Sauternes over this - it’s missing the pop (less acidity and maybe lack of botrytis?) I like there, and, to my palate, is thinner.

At Troquet with Mark and Raj. This was the wine of the night. Perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, a magnificent golden color, lanolin on the nose, and clean chenin blanc notes (not so much the wet wool).

DAY 1 👃Sweet apricot, tangerine, white flowers, varnish, & manuka honey. Beautiful and very expressive 👅Hits the tongue with honeyed sweetness and bright rich fruit leading the way. Acidity increases next followed by beautiful quince/apricot/tangerines. Finishes long with no unsavory bits. Everything in balance
The remaining wine was Slow Decanted
DAY 12 👃Just wow😮 Fruit, florals, varnish, and honey 👅Sweet rich apricot, smoky orange, honey, mango, varnish, grapefruit, quince, fig, sultanas.... Starts and ends with fruit. Savory in the mid palate. Lovely mouthfeel. Rich but not heavy
-This QdC was stellar and virtually identical on Days 1 and 12. This would likely stay great for much longer with Slow Decanting but I just couldn't hold off -This 2002 is in great form and I am sure another decade is going to be no problem with this level of acidity and balance

Served chilled. Deep yellow-gold in colour. Nose of ripe mangoes, quince, brown turbindo sugar, and a touch of honey. Sweet and sour mangoes, ripe pineapples and apricots with bits of apple cider are noticed on palate; multi layered and sharp. Medium+ bodied with a long finish. Oh yeah, this is some good <bleep>.

Deep golden and light orange tint I have not seen before. Pure yellow fruit with pear, light white apple, and quince driven wine with minerality and lightness on the palate with balanced and now relaxed acidity. Not too sweet, waves of rich fruit, delightful mouthfeel and good length. This bottle was a big after dinner hit and evaporated in 20 minutes. Moderately chilled, no decant. Hold 3-4 years.

Deep orange-gold in color. Lifted classic aromas of orchard pit-fruits, quince paste, marzipan, yellow florals and minerals. Palate shows ripe and sweet crushed pear-peach-orange marmalade buttressed with terrific acidity and a long mineral and floral inflected finish. Very, very good and on point.

Really enjoyed this dessert wine. Great texture, richness, and powerful acidity. Nice balance of flowers, citrus, mango, mineral notes. Light-medium on the palate, this wine drinks effortlessly and has a very long finish. Terrific bottle!

I fully concur with Burg Mitch's TN yet my score is a bit less generous based on the current showing. I was surprised at the relative dryness/high acidity especially since it didn't seem that way in it's younger days but everything is here for LT ageing and I will keep my bottles deep in the cellar for at least another 5 years and definitely consume the 2000 first. If tempted to drink now I would more likely open one early in a meal with aps. rather then as a finale.

Not as sweet as a typical QDC from Baumard, this had a bit of steely, nervosity with a firm acidic spine to balance the RS nicely giving this lift and cut I might expect from almost a Demi-sec. Otherwise typical QDC favor profile. Loved it and with its relatively high acidity this is a wine that could pair with a larger range of foods than a typical sweetie. This got sucked down quickly with 8 folks in attendance.

Popped and poured with desserts. The wine has darkened a bit into a golden orange hue. The sweetness and acidity balance really well, so the wine isn't at all cloying. An excellent, but lighter, alternative to a Sauternes. Chenin Blanc from the Loire is so often overlooked, but they are great wines.

A bit more caramel in color. Paired with sautéed calves liver. This is a winning wine and grand pairing. Just enough acid to cut the richness of the liver, not too sweet either. A finish that remains clean— not cloying. No need to hurry, but in a great spot if you have them.
Last of Several bottles. From a 750. No pox here. This was tight, acidic and fresh. Bright bright fruit. We describe this as pineapple juice on acid. Also liquid gummy bears. Think you get the picture here. Hard to not love this.
I’ve heard this vintage has had major premature oxidation problems. I’ve had other bottles of this that were oxidized. And others like this that were not. It’s a crap shoot.

From 375. La Colombe in Montreal. This was an excellent bottle. Fresh, no asparagus undertone, luscious, good acidity, and a great match with foie gras in a light honey sauce.

A very, very good showing for this wine. One could have simply sniffed it all night. On the palate, while sweet, it wasn't overly so. Clean. Plenty of cut to balance the acidity. This is in a nice place right now.

Obviously a wine that had not been stored properly. Bought from Winebid.com and I have very poor luck buying there. They don't do a good job with establishing providence or current condition. The bottle didn't look right from the moment I opened the box. Oxidized and maderized. Exposed to some heat at some point in its life. Sad. I had an excellent bottle a few years back.

Geynale study (Chicago, IL): This wine can be hit or miss sometimes, but this bottle was a hit. The nose has a bit of a wooly quality, followed by some dried stone fruit flavours and maybe something that reminds me of cantaloupe? The palate is moderately sweet, and there's an oily texture overall, which in a correlated manner tells you that the acidity here is relatively low. Indeed, I like my sweet wines with a little more cut, but this isn't so heavy and thick that it truly needs that acidity to cut it.

Another disappointing 2002, which drank so well in the immediate years after release. I opened a bottle last year and thought it may have been flawed, but unfortunately this was no better.

Certainly a nice bottle, but does not strike me as particularly complex. From a half bottle, and it seemed ever the slightest bit oxidized, so it may not have been a great bottle.

This bottle seemed surprisingly tired. Not sure if it is simply nine years older than last time I tried it or if this was an off bottle. I opened a 2010 immediately after to compare, and it was closer to what I remember from my previous times drinking the 2002. Fresher, lighter. That said, two out of six people at the table preferred the 2002 over the 2010.

Not quite as magical or complex as the last bottle, but still delightful. For one thing, the balance of this wine is stunning - its sweetness perfectly offset by crisp acidity. There is an abundance of strawberry and apricot on the nose, with the apricot carrying over faithfully on the palate, along with pineapple. The wine is fairly full-bodied, and the length is long. A great way to celebrate the World Cup victory of les bleus.

What more could one want in a dessert wine? Perhaps more depth? Maybe, but this has just the right balance between fruit and acidity and is quite light on its feet. Could it be more "profound?" Perhaps. But for sheer enjoyment this is a winner. So much preferred by guests to the Delesvaux SGN 2000 consumed in the same evening.

Brilliant golden core. Peach, strawberry, verbena and saffron on the nose. Sweet, yet perfectly balanced out by bracing, Riesling-like acidity. Medium-bodied. Mostly peach and apricot upfront, turning to lychee, granny smith, followed by mint and oolong tea on the finish. Very long length, with a lingering taste of pure apricot. A lovely reminder of why one should drink more sweet wine.

The nose and palate are as if somebody "cuvéed" a Moelleux Vouvray with a Spatlese Riesling. There's the familiar apricot and pear with ginger of Vouvray, with some peach, apple, tropical fruit, and mineral from Riesling. It's sweet, but not cloying because of the relatively strong acidity. Quite interesting!

nice bottle and label, natural cork; wine is light canary yellow, with beautiful nutty notes alongside with honey, peach and pineapple; as someone else stated previously, this is like a light Sauternes, still fresh after 15 years, with a long finish. Drinking beautifully now, and I wouldn't mind trying it again in a decade.

DoubleD Fest (Carlsbad, California): 12.5% alcohol. Clear light yellow color. Lovely notes of orange peel, honeycomb, jasmine, allspice. Like a light sauternes, but not as sweet or as unctuous. Has enough hidden acidity to provide nice definition. Delicious. Perhaps not fair to lump this wine with all the red wines in the voting, at the end of a long evening when some of us were barely standing.

Deep yellow in color. Fabulous aromas of quince jelly, toasted almonds, citrus and honey. A rich and viscous palate reveals sweet, citrus poached pear and quince marmalade, almond milk, excellent acidity and a long honeyed finish. Superbly balanced, drinking well.

Light golden color. Pure honey/citrus aromas. Full bodied, quite sweet, a beacon of orange more than pear fruit, botrytis, and crisp balancing acidity. Lovely poise and length. Utterly winning dessert wine that is drinking at or near its peak.

Popped and poured. Light gold color. Fantastic flavors of apricots, orange marmalade, lemon tartness, and moderate acid. Perfect pairing with crepes Suzette, playing the orange liqueur in the dessert off of the orange marmalade in the wine. Still very healthy with years of good drinking ahead.

2002 DOMAINE des BAUMARD QUARTS des CHAUME- 750 ml.; made from botrytised Chenin Blanc, this creamy and rich and flavourful sweetie shined brightly; the nose had some tropical and fresh floral aromas along with some lemon and lime; additionally, some sweet pineapple joined in the taste profile; there was major acidity underlying throughout; it was so good, I had more than one sip and made a note to open up another one soon.

375 ml. Copper color with significant oxidation. Decanted and then immediately poured (which I find helps this wine). Beautiful pear, maple and almond bouquet. Voluptuous mouth feel – very viscous. Supercharged pear and honey with nutty almond notes. Full body. Medium acidity. Decadently long finish. Tremendous fruit presence, but not as layered as some of the Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume vintages I have had. Still, an excellent wine that would pair very well with blue cheese or crème brulee. I love serving this wine with grilled peaches, a touch of balsamic vinegar and a good vanilla bean ice cream.

This has developed very nicely indeed! Honey, pineapple, glue, cigar. Complex nose. Has taken on weight over the last 5 years. Sweet attack, balanced mid palate with a typical fresh chenin blanc acidity underneath. Long finish. Baumard old school! His style has changed today.

This is still going strong. Showing some signs of evolution, as the fruit is expressing more baked flavors (baked apricots, peaches, oranges). Although this is evolving it still seems it can go on for quite some time, as the acidic backbone still cuts through the honeyed flavors, keeping this incredibly fresh. Lengthy finish. Will revisit in5-10 years.

Out with friends (Scarecrow, Jonata, 7 Stones, Kutch, Rhys, Baumard) (University Circle): Pop and pour, this was served at about 52F. It had been some time since I opened a bottle and all my prior bottles were 375's. Patience was rewarded. This is stunning right now. This is why you age sweet Chenin. Golden in color. The nose has oranges, honey, minerals and canned peaches. On the palate, It is slightly sweet, but that has faded a bit with age. In its place is a complex and layered collection of candied oranges, honey and a nice minerals streak. Great balance. Long finish. Nice to know I have a couple more of these.

Enjoyed this recently after a wine dinner courtesy of Tim Wallace of the Wine Vault in Charlotte NC. An unbelievably good, not overly sweet / not cloying and mature Loire Valley chenin blanc that at the average CT price is a fantastic QPR wine. In a very good drinking window and probably not a lot more improvement to be expected with aging but definitely intense enough to have at least a decade of life left with proper cellaring. Dark amber, very smooth, well balanced, full bodied, not cloying or jammy at all with a delicious very long lingering aftertaste. Nose warm and deep with honey, honeysuckle, burnt sugar and spices. Flavor profile consisted of well balanced honey, caramel, raisins, warm cooking spices and melted butter. Highly recommend this wine if you can find it.

Medium deep to deep gold, luscious nose of caramel, honey, flan - not too heavy on palate, with excellent acidity and length, with some "doughy" weight on the sides- mouth-filling flavours also present a titch of burnt sugar - v good acidity keeps it all honest - delish.

Really amazing dessert wine! Drank over two days with the satisfying results. It was sweet without being cloying. It possessed wonderful mouth-feel, purity, and a sense of its origins. Tasted of honey, yellow fruits, and caramel. We've had it in the cellar for a very long time and it was still fresh and delicious.

Drinking fine from 375; no signs of excessive age. Plumps and thickens the second day, showing more suguary heft and lusciousness. Just 12.5% abv, in contrast to the great sweet wines to the south and west. Drink or hold.

This seemed light and almost fading a bit. I can't believe that but it was still quite fine, just not unctuous or mouthcoating like I remember. This was open in the reefer for a night before I tried it. Very much a tropical wine, sweet apricot, papaya and tangerine notes with pumpkin pie spice on the finish. Dried up a bit on the finish, not at all mouthcoating, but still long in the finish. Just long and dry, not long and thick. I wonder if this should be consumed in the next 3-5 years? Not at all oxidized or baked, so my concern would be just due to it aging and becoming unbalanced. Drink any time.

Two words can fully describe this half bottle-ridiculously delicious! Light golden color. Shining purity of very lightly botrytized fruit expressed as pineapple and orange. Moderately sweet but not sugary or syrupy in the least. Snappy acidity keeps it incredibly fresh even out of this smaller format. Gorgeous, lingering, completely harmonious finish. A great dessert wine. All of my notes have been completely consistent with this impression, and in a regular sized bottle, this should easily go on for another 10-15 years due to its balance.

Very light on its feet, not too sticky nor cloying. Candied pineapple and light apricot notes, not in a drippy, sweet way, more lithe. Viscous tangerine, green apple, and apricot notes with a characteristic trace of mustiness on the palate. Remains very light, yet very long into the finish.

An evening with friends (Val and Ron's): From a 375. This showed well on pop and pour. Our host who doesn't like sweet wine enjoyed this (had a second pour). Golden in color. The nose is pretty with apricots, burnt orange peel and minerals. On the palate, much of the sweetness has faded. Not quite dry, but just a perception of the sweetness that we there in its youth. It matched quite well with a peach cobbler.

The Wines of Florent Baumard (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): I hadn't had this since 2010, and it was still holding steady. Great flavors of pineapple, lemons, limes, lychee, and peaches. I only had a small taste of this, but the acidity was there. Everything seemed in a good place.

Tasting with Florent Baumard (Chicago, IL): There's a bit of malt on the nose of this one, along with some mushroomy funk. The palate is still quite sweet and fruity, but the back end shows a bit of dried shiitake mushroom, which I commonly associate with oxidized wines. There's acidity, but the freshness has long since passed into history. Perhaps in an awkward phase, this needs more time to develop more secondary and tertiary characteristics.

Would have rated 100 points but, no wine is perfect… Out of the bottle the wine showed a wonderful deep golden yellow hue (24ct) with over tones of pink. Nose is dense and full with lots going on, high notes of butterscotch and vanilla bean, soft lemon, honeysuckle, followed by finger dripping juicy sweet pear. Every sniff showed a new element, was always evolving and never got tired. Couldn't put the glass down. Palate is full, dense, lush and creamy with hints of minerality through to the finish. Yellow Peach, hints of fresh cut pineapple, ripe pear, field apples, white honey, baked sugar and cream. It’s all here. Underlying balanced acidity running through to the finish keeps this wine fresh. Long Finish.... Don’t know how this could be better with more or less of something or nothing. A Great Wine. Purchased from retail store and consumed without food at 40-45. Drinking window now – 15 years… Na zdrowie…6 more bottles in the box… : )

Special Friend in Town (Sons and Daughters, San Francisco): Half bottle. Light golden. Just a bit of honey but mostly apple and pear. My expectations for Baumard QdC are admittedly quite high, and while this strikes the balance structurally (excellent acidity and lightness), it is a bit muted on fruit and lacking the savory/spicy/perfumed goodness that I hope for. Lots of botrytis and the sweetness is well balanced. Hopefully, the flavor will come around with time.

This wine is closest to being great of any I've imbibed. Impeccable balance of massive acidity and a sensation of richness that resolves into actual sweetness only as the wine passes your back saliva glands. Great depth, layers of complexity, and reverberating intensity that penetrate the gums like novacaine. Yes, there is some stone fruit, a touch of honey, etc., but this wine is about sensation more than taste, overwhelming your expectations with intensity and mu;ti-dimensionality. Not the most polished, but engaging, powerful, romatnic: Beethoven in a glass.

The nose is honey and fresh summer air with lychee. The palate has incredible acidity and balanced apricot sweetness. I love the flowers, extreme ripe apples, and botrytis the palate delivers. The finish is very very long and delicious. Overall, I would prefer Sauternes from a good year, but these are a different animal. Delicious wine, and worth the coin in my opinion. My non-wine geek friends loved it as-well.

Father's Day w '90 Lagrange, '89 Cordeillan Bages, '02 Baumard QdC & '02 Guiraud (Monterrey, Mexico): This is a beauty of a wine! As long as one does not commit the mistake of having it alongside thicker, more concentrated dessert wines (like I have made before). Light, crisp and refreshing, this beauty's nose is the essence of dried pinapple, lemon and a mineral streak. In the palate it is medium bodied, light and offering a beautiful, crisp acidity. Long and flavorful, this paired great with

Wine Club (Bowling Green, OH): After listening to my friends rave about this bottle, I've finally found a Loire dessert wine that really gets along with my palate! Medium sweetness, good acid, super-elegant, no pears in sight. A little like a Sauternes with less heat. The Tokaji was the lovable but obnoxious drunk guy at a dive bar, while this is wearing a suit and tie at a classy restaurant. Great stuff.

Wonderful nose, strong honey & apples (apple juice?). Very sweet and opulent on the palate, mouthcoating honey flavors with little hints of the Chenin "wet wool" flavor in the background. My only worry is that there isn't enough acidity to balance the sweetness but what do I know? Needs more itme in the cellar for sure.

Medium dark yellow/greenish colour. Overripe apples, candied pineapple, a bit of caramel and a drop of acacia honey in the nose. Medium heavy, not in the league of PIerre Bise and the other sugar knights, from a sweetness perspective, but very elegant and multilayered mouthfeel. As always, very good acidity in Chenin Blanc and especially in Baumard. I believe there are better Quart de Chaumes, but Baumard is always a safe bet.

A couple Pinots, A bunch of Spatlese, and QdC and a Port walked into a tasting: A disappointing showing of this wine. It really was either vacant or shut down completely. Prior bottles and prior vintages lead me to guess the later. It has a nice acidity, good body, sweet and not cloying, but really not showing much fruit. Slight apricot notes. From a 375, but I will let my remaining bottles wait for a while at this point.

Celebration for the CHaIR Lab (Our house. Denver, CO): Closed at first, but was singing within 15 minutes. Lots going on aromatically but is almost magical on the palate with its stony almost ethereal brilliance underlying rich complex persistent flavors. This is all about texture.

Open That Bottle Night at St. Jacques, Raleigh, NC. Youthfully green-tinged in color, this wine showed a very tropical side tonight with boatloads of mangoes and pineapples. Horseradish like botrytis is evident as well. On the finish the acidity is laser sharp. Clearly one of the finest Baumard QdC wines ever produced but it will take a decade or more to show the true potential here. Easily has 30 years of prime drinking ahead of it. Would have been seen as the superstar of the evening if not for what it was paired against. 50+13+13+9+9= 94+

Dark gold, almost apple juice-like colour. Apricot preserves, fig, pineapple, honey, wet stones and newly sawed wood. Very complex and viscous. The nose is a little muted and I'm suspecting that this is in a dumb phase. A very prudential finish and tons of complexity. This has evolved rather nicely and the secondary flavors of wood and wet stones are starting to come through. A wonderful effort from my favorite winemaker in the Loire - Laurnet Baumard. This is not the '05, nor the '95, however, a classic late-harvest Chennin Blanc. Drink 2012 - 2025.

From a half bottle. Opened by mistake as I thought I had a '97 in my hands. This appears to be even more closed at this stage compared to a year ago. It took 3 days for the wine to open up and the acidity to soften. There is great material underneath, but still very primary. The acidity is great and the concentration is superb, so it is a matter of time before this really unfolds. But on night 3 this was very advanced aromatically with good depth and length on the palate. Wait another 3-4 years. This is 93 today, but has tremendous upside potential.

Deep straw gold. Gentle enveloping botrytized nose with cinnamon, candied flowers, and faintly sweaty fur. Calm, cold and stony palate feel, but the flavors do stick to all surfaces of the mouth. Considerably more evolved than a recently tasted 2003 but I'm not sure it's any better, at least at the moment.

Semi-Blind Whites (Our House -- Philadelphia): This is tremendous. I do not know how the 02 ranks alongside the 95 or 05 (which I have in the cellar) but this is just a delight. Not too heavy. Not too sweet. Great citrus, apricot, honeyed nuts. Maybe a tad bitter which is the only nit. Great concentration. The acidity and mineral notes melded beautifully. The finish was incredibly long. This is one of those wines that you taste for minutes and minutes after sipping and if there were not other wines to taste, you could still taste this for 10+ minutes.

Semi-Blind White Wine Tasting (Casa Roberts): I *just* reloaded on these but continue to drink them every occasion I get. My God I love this stuff. quince, peach, apricot, honey, nutmeg, with a smooth sweetness -- very sweet, but not thick or cloying. an incredible acidity makes this smooth as can be. Not the highest score I gave at this tasting, but my favorite of the wines... LONG finish -- basically you keep experiencing this until you get lured in to another sip. 6 bottles left in the cellar and I'm already looking for more...

Oh, this is so young that I have a tough time guessing how great this could turn out to be. Rather lightweight, compared to the recent '96 and '97, I am sure this will gain weight with time. Sparkling acidity, which reminds me of a young riesling. A lot of quince and tropical fruits on the palate. It is drinking fine today, but I am going to put away my two other bottles for a long time. 91-95

Wow. Popped and poured, and the nose was nearly impossible to figure out at first. Initially, I got a whiff of wet cardboard, and was worried this might be corked. Thankfully, it blew off right away, and was supplanted by honeysuckle, orange, and a touch of bile. Bizarre.
On the palate, this was a masterpiece. A rush of sweet melon and rich honey march through the mid-palate, but are kicked to the curb by a fresh, zesty blast of lemon on a finish that goes on and on. Remarkable.

Yummy. Quince, honey, apricot, truffle oil -- once again I was shocked how much was there on the nose and the palate. A more subtle dessert wine, this is very sweet, but not intensely sugary. This is a great, great wine that will be appreciated by novices looking for straight-forward 'yum' and experts looking for more complexity alike. This has a long life ahead of it, but I am drinking them too fast!

Sweet honey, stone fruit and flowers on the nose. Full bodied and unctious with glycerin galore, the palate was round and long, with less zip than the 05, but bitter melon, ripe pear, peach, honey, and orange rind. Finish was long. Delicious wine!

A great sweet wine that soars to the top of my charts for stickies with a wonderful tropical profile framed by a creamy texture that coats your tongue. Fantastic on it's own and great with a cheese platter or just about anything else. We loved this wine and will most certainly be searching for more.

12.5% alcohol. golden honey color. creamy white peach on the nose, with ripe apricot and honey. crisp, yet full and rich and explosive with luscious honey, orange peel, spicy pineapple and minerals. the sweetness and acidity are perfectly balanced with a rich, honeyed finish. it got better after being opened for an hour, so i imagine this needs a few more years to show what it really can do.

12.5% (Tasted 13-May-2007) Opened the previous night. Pale, clear golden colour; nose of flint, honey (or honey suckle), spice, perhaps an earthy note as well; pleasant, cottony mouth feel (flocculent), with nice sweetness and some lemon.
Long and well integrated finish; very clean and balanced. I can’t ask for any feature of this wine to be either enhanced or muted. Personally I would prefer to drink this wine in the summer and Sauternes in the winter.

What a unique animal. The wine is nearly the color of California hills in the late summer. It has a nose of orange marmalade and with hints of coconut. The wine also tastes of coconut with grapefruit and other citrus flavors without the cloying sweetness of some Sauternes and TBA's. I have been working on this for a week, keeping it under refrigeration and vacu-vin, and it seems as good as when I first opened it. Dessert Chenin Blanc, good stuff, Maynard. I am tickled I bought a case of this and 3 bottles of the 2003.

On the nose, bountiful aromas of fig, orange juice concentrate, mango, sauteed pear, and a slight nuttiness........hazelnut? The first sip blasts you with an up front searing acidity, but to tell the truth, it isn't overwhelming because as soon as it hits, it gracefully melts away into flavors of lemon meringue pie, pineapple, peach, and mango sorbet. Some might think that the acidity is a bit too much, but I found it very refreshing as opposed to the overbearing sweetness of a Sauternes. This has a very long life ahead of it. I won't open my next bottle for at least 5-7, and will certainly buy more to drink over the next 20 or more. Just spectacular!

Considerably better the next day and two days later, when it got a really nice caramel note. But I’d still take a good old Sauternes over this - it’s missing the pop (less acidity and maybe lack of botrytis?) I like there, and, to my palate, is thinner.

"Slow Decanting" this classic
DAY 1
👃Sweet apricot, tangerine, white flowers, varnish, & manuka honey. Beautiful and very expressive
👅Hits the tongue with honeyed sweetness and bright rich fruit leading the way. Acidity increases next followed by beautiful quince/apricot/tangerines. Finishes long with no unsavory bits. Everything in balance
The remaining wine was Slow Decanted
DAY 12
👃Just wow😮 Fruit, florals, varnish, and honey
👅Sweet rich apricot, smoky orange, honey, mango, varnish, grapefruit, quince, fig, sultanas.... Starts and ends with fruit. Savory in the mid palate. Lovely mouthfeel. Rich but not heavy
-This QdC was stellar and virtually identical on Days 1 and
12. This would likely stay great for much longer with Slow
Decanting but I just couldn't hold off
-This 2002 is in great form and I am sure another decade is
going to be no problem with this level of acidity and balance

Would have rated 100 points but, no wine is perfect…
Out of the bottle the wine showed a wonderful deep golden yellow hue (24ct) with over tones of pink.

On the palate, this was a masterpiece. A rush of sweet melon and rich honey march through the mid-palate, but are kicked to the curb by a fresh, zesty blast of lemon on a finish that goes on and on. Remarkable.

Opened the previous night.
WS rated this at 97. I can say that this wine is ethereal and angelic.

Tasting Group Dinner (Jeff's House): Rich, racy, concentrated flavors of pink grapefruit and watermelon. Crisp, zesty acidity nicely balances the fruit and sweetness. Delicious and refreshing. Still yery young.

Pears. Nice mid palate complexity. Pretty floral finish. Good acidity. Much lighter mouth feel and concentration than I remember in the past. Almost tasting like a dry wine.

This wine is just soo delish! Succulent, sweet without any cloying sweetness on the finish. I will be hard pressed not to drink these up over the next decade. Those that like dessert wines should seek a bottle as it blows by most sauternes in my opinion.

Golden color. Great nose of beeswax and honey, candied orange peel, applesauce, petrol. Penetrating acidity on the tongue, followed by waxy, mouthcoating waves of beeswax, apricot, honey, citrus. Wonderfully balanced, with a long finish. This is just sensational and definitely one of my favorite dessert wines.

Brilliant wine. Light yellow-orange color. Sweet, but a nice firm backing of acid kept it well framed-in and not at all cloying. Lots of quince, peaches, and melon fruits on both the nose and palate, plush texture along with oodles of lush tropical fruit and some creamy honey and beeswax.

Out of 375 ml. Not as crisp as the bottles I've had previously, but whoa! The botrytis is really singing. Mango, pear, honey, and minerals, and petrolly-botrytis. The more this sits in the glass the more complex it gets. The finish on this wine is endless... Used 1/2 this bottle to make some kick-ass apple pie. Wow!

From 375. Delicious. Complex, rich without being cloying. A myriad of flavors. Don't drink this too cold, as the flavors exhibit themselves more fully as the wine warms up.

Carrollton, TX OL (Amici's): Golden lemon yellow with the scent of honeysuckle and vanilla that truly coated one’s mouth. Had very complex flavors of pineapple, peaches and apricots with toasted honey in the background. Some botrytis? Loved this wine.

Absolutely beautiful wine. Layers and layers of pear, peach and honey, all supported by great minerality and acidity. Nothing cloying or clumsy here, very elegant and balanced with a long, long rainwater/citrus finish. Drinking so nicely so young out of a 375 ml bottle, i am looking forward to slowly (very slowly) working my way through the 6-pack of 750s over the years.

Light amber color.
Nose - freshly cut mango, pears.
Minerality goes through this wine from top to bottom
with many green-yellow notes - mango, pears, honey.
Finish is long and caressing.
At the same time I think it's little bit too sweet for my taste.
Time will show how it will develop.

Tasted February 19, 2005 at a DAWGS offline at Lavendou in Dallas, TX. Opened and served immediately in Spiegelau Authentis WeissWein glasses. Clear and lovely light yellow to straw color in the glass. Heartstopping nose of tropical fruits, flowers, minerals and a little citrus. Wow nelly! This baby hit the palate and my eyes rolled. Full and rich wine throwing flavors on so many levels. Minerals, passion fruit, honey, nuts, citrus, etc… I’m betting this will morph into a honey dripping beauty over the next 20+ years. Highly recommended regardless of price. If you don’t own some of this I recommend you get off of the stick and buy some now. My WOTN by a long shot.

Just about as great as the bottle two weeks ago! Beautiful fruits, no cloying acidity. A wine for the next 20 years--if you can keep your hands off! I shared this with my in-laws for the post Thanksgiving dinner; they aren't wine people, but they definitely liked the wine.
Enjoy!

Opened for a family birthday party--wow what a wine! Brilliant notes of pear and fruit! A tasty wine that avoided the overtly and cloying sweetness and acidic finish often experienced with Sauternes. A great wine with a fantastic future! I will buy more!
ps the WS gave it 97 points....I can see this as a 95/96 wine in a few years, but no higher.
