A benefit tasting to support Robin Hood foundation. Zachys did a nice job of putting this on, in fact, there were so many great wines that I missed -- I wish I ha another hour or two to get further in... But I did quite well, and was impressed with the breadth and depth of the wines being shown.
As with all walkaroud tastings, it was nice being able to compare so many wines, but I will need to revisit many of these in order to get a better impression...
nicer than the 2006, with great concentration of fruit and a long finish. really nice wine.

Lovely. Subtle oak covers over layers of white fruit. Underneath is a nice minerality. Wonderful build through the mid palate leads to a med(+) finish.

leather, red cherry, and potpourri. more traditional than the 2003 and a darker, more brooding feel to it.

nice fruit flavors of black cherry and other black fruit. med(+) finish. strong black pepper notes on finish. a nice wine and one of the better CDPs I had at this tasting, but not up to the highs i recall from previous clos des papes.

red fruit and red currant with secondary notes of tobacco and licorice. surprisingly, this had more of a cabernet sauvignon profile to my palate despite being Merlot dominant. med(+) finish builds. enjoyed this.

more oak than the other colin-moreys, but it is well integrated. similar lemony profile as the others, with a nice acidic backbone. some stone and green apple. medium(+) finish lingers and distinguishes this from the others.

nice example of barolo and a wine that consistently impresses me at the low end of the barolo spectrum. leather, tobacco, black fruit. medium finish shows acidity (in a positive way)

well balanced wine with flavors of black berry fruit and mint. med(+) finish. preferred the 06 estate to the 07 regular...

med(+) sweetness surprised me with its restraint. not quite enough botrytized notes, though you do get the honeyed peach. some citrus and tropical fruit. medium finish.

earthy brisket. meat. salty blood. had my glass confused and thought this was hermitage and was shocked because it was so typical of cote rotie. med(+) finish. fine wine.

nice berry fruit profile (red & black). some coffee notes. med finish.. just a touch ahead of the 06 dominus for me, this had more fruit and seemingly more tannin.

Buttery with nice grapefruit flavors. Nice tingly acidity on the mid palate. Med finish.

I love Chambolle-Musigny! Raspberry, cola, and cherry flavors. medium finish lacks weight, but is pleasant.

quite nice. sweeter than expected with some honeysuckle and peach notes. med(+) finish lingers pleasantly.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
really enjoyed this. raspberry and sour cherry, but med(+) acid is the most noticeable characteristic. fruit carries into the finish. gets a little sharp 20s into a beautiful finish -- a little like reflux, which detracts.

nice raspberry dominated palate. some tobacco starting to show.

overwhelming root beer notes on the attack, followed by bright red raspberry fruit. this was pleasant to drink, but did not remind me of barolo. lovely medium finish.

fairly simple for a brunello, but quite nice. black pepper, cherry, leather, and some spicy cayenne notes that were really enjoyable. med(-) finish wishes it could linger a bit longer...

black spice dominates the flavor profile, with some steak notes behind. i did not think "fruit". some heat on med(+) finish. preferred the 06 estate to the 07 regular...

more powerful and concentrated than the regular CDP. Nice black berry dominated profile, with some sweet spice (clove?) notes. I found the tannins to be quite powerful and gripping. med(+) finish. Not a huge fan of the style, but the fruit and finish make this a very good wine.

this had some wonderful notes of dried flowers and sweet spice, but the underlying fruit tasted a bit underripe. med(+) finish redeems the wine, but this is not at the highs I expect from this wine. Would like to try again to back up this note.

This was a difficult wine for me. There was a tremendous amount going on, with lovely intertwined flavors. But the underlying fruit did not seem ripe... It seemed like it was picked too early, with a green streak in the underlying red fruit. A little bitterness crept into the wine. Nice oak notes and interesting bramble flavors redeem this wine.
