Bricking red/ruby nose is quite mature looking. Savory earthy, red fruit and soap flake nose. Rustic power here. Wild herbs. Medium bodied. Decent flavor depth. Fruit is maybe a touch short. Coarse and robust. I like this with hearty food. Very good. Not more tonight. (89)

Two bottles bought on release, one tried 10 days ago and one tonight. 2nd bottle: relatively complex nose, appropriate for an elite producer's villages from an excellent year; follow through to palate, good length. 1st bottle unbalanced, tart, short, more advanced and clearly past peak, NR... but if representative, worrisome. Would try now if you have any. Remembering informal rule to try all villages wines at 7 or fewer years...

Cranberry sweet cherry baking spices on an alluring nose. Palate more tart cranberry, earthy, tart citrusy finish and surprisingly long and well balanced. Great with grilled cheese. Still a little tannin - these are good now and will continue to be for years. What a charming Burg. 2010 plus a good producer and this is the kind of village wine that I wish I had bought by the case.
Rather disappointing. Bought en primeur, stored perfectly. These bottles looked old already (opened two). Not what I expected from long lived wines from Chevillon.

We have entered “prime-time” and boy is this wine impressive. Leads with wonderful wild cherry fruit with a swish of earthy goodness. Medium bodied, without holes. It’s a chunky hunk of burgundy goodness. The most complex? No. To discuss nuance for hours? No. But to drink and enjoy and think, “Damn, village burgundy can be totally satisfying.” Yes! Drink over the next 5 years. (91)

Garnet center with mature, fading edge. Soil and dull red fruit. Medium to light weight. Much the same in the mouth with an additional twist of citrus and little remaining tannin. Good village wine and a good time to be drinking it.
Better with more interest and spice the next night, but also more wood.

Bottle from PC not long before the bankruptcy, and just like every other Chevillon from this source, something is off. In this case the nose is OK with faint reduction and a creamy top note to the black cherry aromas. But the palate is weird, has med acidity, med- weight but then devolves into a strange bitter chalky tannic biting almost spritzy finish. Have to believe this is a function of the source more so than the producer.

Lovely from first pour, this is open and in its early maturity. Autumnal, forest floor, a touch of NSG spice. There is certainly enough substance and tannin to keep this going for a while but seems to be in a sweet spot for its pedigree.
LIght ruby garnet. On the nose, bright raspberries with a candied note, baking spice, a slight note of prunes. Lovely sweet and salty fruit on the palate with light tannins and a delicate acide frame, beautifully integrated with some firm back palate depth on the long finish. 13% alcohol.

A lovely village burgundy that’s showing more than it did a few years ago. The light color is quickly passed by a floral and ruggedly earthy nose. It takes a good half hour for the hand soap smell to blow off. What’s left is pure and terroir driven. Likewise, the cherry driven palate is medium bodied and slightly chunky. Very enjoyable and at peak - should provide a nice experience for another 5 to 10 years. Lacks complexity but delivers nice purity and impact. (90)

Slow-O in a couple Riedel Burg glasses about 90 minutes prior to dinner. Chevillon is one of my favorite producers. Always delivers wines with remarkable transparency of site and purity of fruit. Tonight's btl was another terroir driven NSG ala Chevillon! Nearly translucent bright red color. Aromatics of dried flowers & underbrush. Soily, mushroom, spice & red raspberry on a weightless frame. 2010's superb balance shows up here in spades. The old vines obviously plus up the experience. Loved it ! Delighted to have 2 more that Ill string along over the next 3-10yrs.
Ce n'est pas un vin d'une grande complexité mais d'une belle finesse. La trame de petits fruits rouges est encore fraiche avec une belle longueur en bouche. Un Nuit sans lourdeur qui se laisse boire facilement. Du bon Pinot!

Perfect cork with some tartrate crystals. Pretty awesome from the moment the cork was pulled. Light, limpid color but a beautiful stench of animale/game, and a lovely light-bodied palate with already well-integrated tannins. Blinded I would have struggled between NSG and Gevrey. $23 from Premier Cru, a year or so before the fall.
Rather tart cranberry fruit, hints of gamey development on the nose, residual grippy tannin softening over the evening to bring out sweeter red fruit and as such becoming more classic Pinot rather than resembling Langhe Nebbiolo. Not fantastic, but good enough that I wish the bottle wasn't now empty.

not long opened - forest floor, lots of spice, dark cherry, a touch of orange rind and licorice. Savoury with prominent acidity, a touch of bitterness on the finish. Quite complex and seems to be at the start of its secondary development, I am finding it hard to pin down but it has a spicy savouriness which is becoming ever more attractive as it warms and airs.

Perfumed nose. Red brick color. Flavors of raspberry, blackberry, mushroom, black tea, and clove. Mild tannins combine with a still pronounced acidity. This is ready to drink now, but has at least another 5-7+ years.

Light ruby colour in the glass. Nose of red fruits (cherry compote) and a tinge of wood like aroma. On the palate, prominent acidity at first that improves with ~2 hours of decanting (better on second day). There was a strong component of cherry on the palate, would go well with rich dishes. A decent Nuit St Georges

Fruit is fading, but a nice wine if somewhat out of balance. The acidity is a bit excessive (and I like a decent amount of acidity) and harsh to the point where it is hard for the flavour to come across. This wine needs food and with the acidity here I would pair it with a meal that has loads of fat/oil in it.

No value in Burgundy? Pah! Of course, it is all relative, but this counts as a bargain. Age has been kind to this wine and it has started to open up and show a soft but meaty palate; soy sauce, beef stock, red/black fruit and a tannic grip that is more of a caress than a smack. Proper wine that even at this early stage of its life has started to show a lot of feral, Burgundy goodness.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs -nearly semi-translucent light-med red -mild reduction expressive stony red fruit -med/med+ acidity lends terrific energy, med/med- weight red fruit stony minerality and touch of ripe plum, mildly chalky med tannins -beautiful expression of the vintage with all its energized red-fruited minerally glory, with a bit more complexity this would mimic a top 1er Cru, drinking beautifully now with no hurry

Excellent, dark fruit with some secondary earthy notes still with good tannic structure. I am unclear on further aging prospects - this still struck me as youngish but on second night fruit had faded a bit and tannins stuck around leading me to wonder if the structure will outlive the fruit.

Lighter-bodied with lovely flavors of earthy cherries and a hint of barnyard. Silky and elegant texture. Finishes with a nice, subtle mineral crunch. Delicious but this should be drunk now as it’s quite soft and will fade from here.

Day later from memory. Definitely from the more sauvage side of NSG, full of brambly red fruits and a thick vein of iron-infused minerality. Nose showing rich fruit and earth, medium bodied but at the same time with a dense, nearly chewy texture. It might still be a little awkward but has the material to be even better in another year or two.

Surprisingly open, and very ripe, with a burst of cherry liqueur showing on the nose. Fair to good acidity on the palate with good cherry and raspberry fruit, again with a slight liqueur note and modest spice and earth. Tannins are mostly resolved, showing very fine on the back, leading into a nice medium finish.
Serving temp mattered a lot however, as it showed a bit too forward and ripe at room temp...it was easy enough to bring the temp down, it being 45 degrees outside. Drunk at around 50, it showed much better with good freshness and fruit, and very satisfying on its own. However, this doesn’t show much aging potential at all, and seems it would’ve been better a year or two earlier.

Lovely, elegant, earthy Burgundy. Quite soft but with a nice mineral crunch on the back-end. Lovely cherry fruit. I like this but think I prefer Chevillon’s village VV drunk early to capture the fresh fruit. This should be drunk now.

Pale ruby. Cinnamon and spice cover an earthy red fruit core. The palate is layered and has very good extract for a village wine. It is not overly complex but the fruit purity is admirable. Delicious now and over the next 10 years. (89+)

Lonny's btl tonight and same btl as R&Rler's note. I thought this was tonight's most noticeable overachiever. Coming from Chevillon, why should I be remotely surprised by that??? Based in NSG and having all of their wines from NSG continues to hold back demand which is a good thing for those of us who so love Chevillon. Really, Chevillon is only a small step behind Burgundy's most renowned producers like Rousseau, DRC and Mugnier. Tonight's btl was full out terroir driven NSG and so dam tasty I'm tempted to rate it even higher. Soily, mushroom, spicy on a weightless frame. Excellent zip and plenty elegant even as a NSHG village wine. The old vine material obviously ups the experience this wine delivers so masterfully. And again the balance and purity of the 2010 vintage is on full display here to. Currently this comes off much maturely than its 2010 Rousseau village companion at the same table. A really fun flight! Best of all I still have 3 remaining btls of my own but do wish I had grabbed a few more. Paid $56 on release and drinks well about that price point. Remarkable value here!

Red Burgs and More at Mr. Jimmy's Farewell to Irving (Jimmy's Place, Mpls): light medium red color. Slow-O for an hour os so, drank 1 glass over an hour. Drank this next to the '10 Rousseau G-C. This held its own, though it didn't have the overall finesse and purity of the Rousseau. Spices, wood notes, tart red cherry, grainy medium tannins, very tart red berries, hints of strawberry and fresh dill, less earthy. Feels more youthful still.

Indeed, the acidity was fairly prominent in front of the fruit immediately upon opening here. Still tasty, just a bit out of balance.
With just a half an our of air or so, drunk at cellar temp, everything comes together for a slightly mature, lighter expression with secondary notes along with bright red fruits. Really delicious and classic. I wouldn't pay the current release price around $90, but for $60 this is a winner.

This wine started out bitter and green on a pop and pour, and took a good hour to come around in the glass. Now, though, it's quite pleasant. Aromas are light, slight and a little green red berry fruited. Palate entry is nice and sharp, showing slightly bitter, very very fine grained tannins and pleasing acidity. The flavors tend towards under ripe strawberry and ripe cranberries, complete with a slight graphite component. Slightly puckering and tart on the finish which is similar, showing tart acidity and vibrant under ripe red berries. This wine offers some nice elegance despite its lightness and fairly simple flavor profile. It is still incredibly young and think this will be peaking around 5-10 years from now. This was one of the last actual deliveries of the great Premier Cru swindle; I paid $22.99 on a "special weekend pricing sale." At the regular price of $50-60 this is definitely a pass and I figured it may be... but at $23 it's a nice QPR for its elegance... just wait a few years.
P&P, drunk over 1.5 hours. Not surprisingly, last glass was the best, but I was too thirsty to decant :) Light, silky, earthy and spicy. Fills out over time.

Clear light red colour. Elegant nose with strawberries, some orange zest, a hint of stalky notes (i.e., a tiny bit green, but in a pleasant way), some spice, well handled oak, some flowery notes. Medium minus body with a lot of smoothness to it, notes of strawberries and cranberries, pronounced minerality, fine acidity, just a bit of spice (including pepper) and tannins, aftertaste with cranberries and mineral. Young but approachable now, developed with aeration som will surely develop with time in the cellar, 89-90(+) p. This wine definitely shows an unusually elegant side of Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Popped and poured. Certainly more mature than when I tried this 18 months ago. There's now a hint of bricking at the edges. The nose is sour cherries, mint, and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, a little harsh with acid overpowering fruit for now. Good body and structure, but lacking integration. More time is needed for this to soften, but it's starting to come around.

Lonny's btl and drinking beautifully! Ripe sweet fruit on the nose but more classic elegance on the palate. I own 3 of these and wish I had bought more! Very happy Lonny let me "check in" on this with him! When tasters talk about purity of fruit and typacity this is it! Thankfully still slightly under the radar because its NSG and not, from one of the bigger name villages.

On the lean side, fruit is light with cranberry and ground cherry, red cherry pit. A lot of savory tones of wild mushroom, leather, dark chocolate and star anise. Lacks a bit of fruit compared to chevillon 1er crus, but still good wine.

Really bright and pure aromatics of ripe strawberry and cranberry. In the mouth it tightens up and shows good structure with smooth tannins. Black tea and iron finish. Another pretty 2010, especially for a NSG and while this isn't overly deep or complex it is so enjoyable to drink. Really looking forward to the '10 Chevillon 1ers years from now.

Consumed too fast for a detailed note, but the nose showed some nice mushroom, raspberries and hints of earth. On the palate this has medium body and nice balance of fruity and earthy flavors. Initially very mild but after and hour or two finish becomes quite long and tannins, acidity and minerals all increase in intensity. Opened too early, needs few more years in the bottle.

This was really good. Nice acidity and grip. Perhaps a bit grippy, but it had all the hallmarks of the appellation. Maybe it could have been a touch sweeter, a touch silkier, a touch velvetier, a touch deeper. But this was an unapologetically excellent village wine, where the old vines were evident in the authority of the palate impression, the aromatics, and the finish. Great stuff.

nose of pretty, fresh, mainly ripe but also a little tart red fruits, rose, hints of graphite and dusty earth, subtle bramble. expressive but not completely forward, definitely holding something back despite smelling really nice now.
med(-) body, med(++) acid. elegant on the palate. more tart fruit than the nose, but also some riper, kind of wild/brambly raspberry and strawberry. leaner than the nose seemed to indicate, but not overly so. pretty, complete wine that is a bit restrained at this point, but a lot of fun to drink. good++.

Very pure and extremely gulpable. Love how Chevillon manages to capture the wildness of NSG but still make it polished and suave - reminds me of what Baudry does in Chinon. Slightly lacking the acidity I love in the 10s.

Quite complex nose. First a little bit tight, but then opens up with fine oak notes, Spices, hints of sandalwood, plums and cherries. there is some elegance to this. No signs of "dirt". Medium body. Harmonius palate. Nice, OK grip. More un-developed in taste than nose. What is there is plum, vanilla and cherries. This will benefit from cellaring. Pity I drank my only bottle. On the other hand - the fruit is lovely in this splendid vintage!

-nearly semi-translucent light-med red
-mild reduction expressive stony red fruit
-med/med+ acidity lends terrific energy, med/med- weight red fruit stony minerality and touch of ripe plum, mildly chalky med tannins
-beautiful expression of the vintage with all its energized red-fruited minerally glory, with a bit more complexity this would mimic a top 1er Cru, drinking beautifully now with no hurry

Lovely, elegant NSG that’s very ready now with delicious flavors of earthy cherry fruit and a nice mineral crunch on the finish. Very much a village wine in its weight and depth, its a joy to quaff with roast chicken.

Really looking forward to the '10 Chevillon 1ers years from now.

very mild but after and hour or two finish becomes quite long and tannins, acidity and minerals all increase in intensity.
