(SYP) opened 1 hour before serving Tobacco and spices to begin with. It breathes up to show dried bak choy, blackberries and Chinese herbs. The palate is harmonious with silky tannins and good length. The finish is slightly dry.

From DMG. Took a moment to open up then showed lovely tertiary notes, dark fruit. I felt that the bottle had very light TCA but most people at the table liked it and could not detect it. What I liked the least were the slightly dry tannins that often cloud the 1995

This wine opened very well showing none of the toughness of young 95s. The colour remains a deep crimson red with a nose of blackcurrants, Garnet plums, some redcurrant, notes of burning charcoal , tobacco and liquorice. The palate showed fine spherical fruit characters that filled the mouth balanced by a very gentle tannic grip underpinned by a finish of tobacco and cedar. A very well balanced and delicious bottle of Graves.

Very elegant in its old-style left bank attire when power, roundness and over extraction were yet to come and, of course, climate was more gentle.
Perfect cork, opened 4 hours in advanced and poured a little bit to open the neck. decided not to decant it.
Dark ruby in colour, very young and beautiful.
The nose opens up with hints of mature raspberry nerging with earthy nots, reminding autumn leaves after the rain. In the glas it evolved showing more and more balsamic notes, liqorice and mint dancing with sage and marjoram.
Perfectly balanced in the mouth, a little bit rustic, maybe lacking precision, like many Pape Clement of the seventies and eighties. Rustics as I said, but elegant. Perfectly integrated tannins, freshness still present. Medium length.
If you have a chance drink it now. My opinion is that it is in a very beautiful spot considering the vintage. It should show more tertiary notes with time but I think it is more enjoyable now. As it is.

This wine went perfectly with our sirloin steak. It was smooth and delicious. It is holding up well for its age, still a fair amount of fruit and the tannins are fully integrated. However, this wine should be consumed now.

95 Bordeaux @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): A little darker than the Haut Bailey. Richer on the palate, darker too with some bacon fat. There’s a bit more density and stuffing here at the expense of some line and complexity. Rich but lacking some definition and complexity on the finish. Still, very good wine that possibly transcends the vintage. Half a shade behind the Haut Bailly for me. ****

A wonderful, old school style of Pape Clement. Was a bit lean and ungiving on opening. Opened nicely after two hours in the decanter. Ruby color with a brick/pink rim. The nose has tobacco leaf, mature red fruit and oyster shell notes. A hint of green pepper. Sweet and mature. Medium bodied. Ties nicely on the finish. Not a blockbuster but I like it. Drink over the next few years. (93)

PnP. Just like previous bottle few months ago, gorgeous floral notes soaring from glass, wow just wow. Reached plateau and ready for prime time, dark berries, wet earth, and burnt cigars. Not the most complex but excellent balance, loved this shit, man. Must be one of the most underrated Bordeaux wines in ‘95. Wish I have bought more than just two vintages of Pape Clement over the years. Spotify was playing “曲終人散“ by 張宇, did I drink with the song or because of the song? But one thing for sure, the song sounded better because of the wine and the wine tasted better because of the song.

Showing at the top of its game, this 95 Pape Clement was well stored and shows it. It’s generously perfumed, The profile is rather dark, typical graves with black currant and crushed rock. Tertiary notes or old library are present but outshined by the fruit. A long lived wine yet. Good stuff

PnP. ABV 13%. Wow. Floral notes soaring from the get-go, 95 points on the nose. Tannins mostly softened, slightly dry on mid-palate and finished with a touch of bitterness. Typical Graves with prominent smokiness and burnt cigar notes. Fabulous showing today, decent length and complexity with excellent balance. Drinking better than expected, cellared since EP. ‘95 Bordeaux are in top form these days.

Double decanted off its sediment an hour before dinner, which was an error on my part as this needed time to open- should have given it an hour or two in the decanter. Still shows fairly dark color with no noticeable bricking/age. Initally there's a good dose of funky brett with muddled fruit underneath. A bit of vigorous swirling starts to bring the fruit out and the brett recedes. Lovely red berry apfruit along with lavender, iron and leather. Tannins are integrating nicely. Flavors of iron, red fruit and plum. No need to rush here. Hold for a few years or decant for a couple of hours.

CB Wine Night #11 - Pape Clement Blind Vertical!: Notes to come. Wine #3 was the 1995 which was the oldest bottle tonight and everyone guessed it. This was WOTN for the group and I ranked this 2nd. Great showing - classic aged Bordeaux. Nice! Open up sooner rather than later though.

Deep ruby, with significant edge fading. Aromas slightly restrained, of purple flowers and underripe blackberry, and more green minty notes. Firm tannins, while a mouthfill, and flavours starting with greens and blackberry, which quickly transforms to clove spices, twigs, coffee grounds, and graphite. Still having a rather rough texture, but a good intensity

Opened for fantasy baseball draft night. This is phenomenal - classic Graves flavours from the second the cork is pulled, with all that smoky, tarry, and gravelly goodness around a core of dark fruits, cedar wood, and tobacco. There's a touch of grainy tannin on the back end, but a lot of the structure here has already resolved and it's very easy to drink with a short time in the decanter. Glad I have a couple more.

Took to a restaurant. Decanted for an hour. Wonderful nose of dried flowers, graphite, subtle mint or eucalyptus. Slight tension between acidity and tannin, but neither conceded. Racy and weighty at the same time. Has more time to go to settle in but drinking exceptionally today.

One hour decant. Deep garnet colour. Aromas of dark fruit. Medium bodied. Smooth with soft tannins, good concentration. Lots of fruit with slight sweetness on the palate, some secondary flavors. Tasted younger than it’s 23 years, still going strong. Slight preference for this over the La Mission Haut Brion 95 tasted recently.

Opened an hour prior to consuming with a pork tenderloin sandwich at Centro DSM, this wine was delicious, albeit in a surprising way.
The nose was somewhat subdued. In the mouth there was a mild cherry spice more reminiscent of St. Emilion than Graves, and also the lead pencil that I typically associate with Pauillac. Not much of the smokiness I would generally expect of Graves.
If I were to quibble, the bottle was far more advanced than I would have expected. The power was diminished -- though I would guess an issue of bottle variation. But overall very pleasant, albeit quite mellow.
If served blind, I might have guessed an Old School St. Emilion from the mid 80s -- maybe Figeac?

Dark and brooding. Quite green on the nose, lots of cedar and black fruit. A bit bitter on the finish - feels young, would probably improve over the next 6-8 years.

Like many wines from the 1995 vintage, the tannins remain hard, and the wine has taken on a firm, strict character. The secondary, smoke, espresso, tobacco and dark cherry nose is fine, but on the tough palate, the wine is not much fun to drink.

You'd never mistake this for anything other than Pessac with its bricky, smokey notes. But the nose is transitioning away from fruit to a more pencil-lead profile and it's thinning on the palate. Very good, though not great - and certainly mature. Quite advanced for a 95.

OK, I admit it, I was wrong. I've been way too impatient with this wine. Tonight it was singing and there seems room left to further improve. No decant recommended but 30min-1hr breathing time helps. After pouring do not swirl before indulging in the redolent bouquet of black fruits and tobacco, Swirl to release the licorice and chocolate notes. A smooth mouth feel and a well balanced palate follows. The finish is long and silky. Truly a superb wine at this point. I now regret consuming prior bottles too soon. Only a few left.

Wonderful fruit, moderate tannins, opened well in the glass. Still youthful, would benefit from several hour decant. Great smoke and oak, dark fruit, moderate secondary notes, long finish.

Really enjoyable, old school PC. Loads of tobacco smoke, leather, crushed gravel, and even some whiffs of menthol and mint on the very expressive nose. Smoky, black-fruited, and slightly tannic on the more clenched up palate, but with a few more years, this will really be shining. Pop it now for the nose alone, or let this sleep a bit longer to truly unfurl.
Some discolouration around the rim. Expressive on the nose with notes of tobacco, spices, cedar and dark fruit. Lacing a bit of intensity on the palate, but very harmonic and round with mellow, but still noticeable tannins, good acidity and length. Drink or keep. 91-93

Tasted at the Sampler. I liked this a lot. Loads of Pessac character and beautifully mature to boot. Baked brick, smoke, red and black cherries, mineral. Just terrific. Svelte in the mouth. Could drink this by the gallon. I'll look for this. Just cross your fingers and pray that the very oaky renditions of the Magrez era turn out this well when the oak integrates (if it does).

Bonne longueur. Boire pendant encore 10-15 ans. 93+

Fantastic bottle of this wine. All the stones and dry leaves of past bottles but a deeper core of sweet, black current fruit. Drinking perfectly tonight. Finishes just a tad early - the only thing keeping this from being a classic. Quintessential Pessac. (94)

Probably one of the least exciting 95s I've had. The wine however is well built, bricking red and fully mature, with a nose of dust, cedar, black currants and baked dark cherries. A bit lacking in power mid palate, and whilst the acidity is good, the raspberry and tobacco tinged finish is slightly marred by thinning yet present tannins.

Decanted 1 hour. Cork saturated and separated at mid length. Wine was clear and clean crimson with no noticeable bricking or cloudiness. This bottle much better than previous bottle which I think was flawed; but it is still not an exciting wine. Pleasant bouquet of tobacco and leather that was soft on the front palate with a medium long finish. An easy drinker with rack of lamb. and it might have become better with a longer decant. Showing some dark fruit and much less funk than before but still not a "knock your socks off" Bordeaux. Tannins pretty well resolved though still noticeably present. I'm going to hold my remaining bottles another year and see if the complexity and balance continues to develop. At best it might become an elegant claret but not likely to create any great memories. No real complaints but had higher expectations at this price point.

°°° Bordeaux 1995 °°°: Clear garnet in color, shows some bricking at the edges. Nose shows some herbal notes and coffee. Nicely balanced wine with a subtle sweetness. Good length and good complexity. Quite elegant. Still youthful and also no hurry to drink this one

Ten notes over as many years. At its best a brilliant 95 but three bottles have been flawed. Blackcurrant nose, still tannic, very good body and great length. A touch of bitterness. Other bottles have been more complex with classic graves brick dust and cedar. Drinking well and will last many years. Good luck.

Popped and slow oxed for 6 hours before dinner. Whoah this wine was rocking. Still firm on the palate after 20 years but not unforgiving. Good concentration on the palate showing tobacco, mineral, and deep black cherry fruit. Drink now or over the next 20 years. A classic Pape Clement.

Upon first opening the body was thin and watery and the bouquet was that of a public toilet. After a 1 hour decant and more time in glass the funk blew off but the fruit was one dimensional black currant and prunes. 2 hours in it began to show some layers of complexity and a touch of elegance but still nothing to brag about. I think this wine will never live up to the promise of its youth. Drink 'em if you got 'em.

Interesting to taste a 1995 that is maturing and showing more fruit and less astringency than this vintage was promising 5 years ago ! Nose beautiful blackcurrants, dark plums, tobacco, burning charcoal and liquorice. Palate medium weight but beautifully balanced with fine fruit core leading to an earth and cedar finish with fine tannins. Very good food wine.

Poured into decanter and drank over about 2h with steak at home. A soft wine, requiring only a short decant. Fairly dark garnet, lightening at the rim. Nose with some barnyard and earth. An attack showing the Cabernet Sauvignon followed by a soft mid-palate with dark fruit, some leather and a medium finish. A very subtle green touch only initially. Was looking for a bit more grip and concentration with the steak. This is nice but has peaked IMHO, drink up.

12 slow-o then 1 hr in decanter. Clear ruby with no bricking. Youthful look. Beautiful classic birdeaux nose - mushrooms, wet earth, smoke. Thin body given nose. Low acidity, slight tannins. Smooth, but lacking secondary aromas. Shortish finish. Nice but all downhill after the nose.

This was medium bodied, deep ruby/purple colored with a full aromatic floral scent. Classic Bordeaux earthiness accents the complex, elegant black currants and black berry fruits with herb-tinged graphite and smoke on a layer of sweet vanilla on a long leathery tobacco finish. It seems to still be in its prime drinking window not yet showing any diminution of age. We saved half the bottle for a follow on rib dinner when the floral tones gave way to a funky barnyard tone that is cited in reviews of several others.
Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition. Into the neck. Top!

Very nice indeed! Fully mature nose, with clear traces of tobacco and blueberries. Not as much cedar and black currants as in your average left bank, but then again Graves is different. You can sense the Merlot content both in the nose and on the fleshy palate. Very good balance and length. Tannins almost resolved and it is just a joy to drink!

Bouteille et bouchon parfaits. Into the neck.

Deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is still quite yothful, but showing some signs of development with pure blackcurrant fruit to the fore, classic notes of tobacco and cedar, a touch of beef. Medium bodied on the palate, blackcurrant, cedar, very fine tannins, intense on the mid-palate with fresh acidity on the extended finish. Excellent and should improve - this may still be 10 years from its peak.

Nose: some real solid notes of tobbacco and leather. Also getting a bit of blackberry along with it. This is the kind of nose that I love from bordeaux
taste: still getting the tobbacco and leather along with blackberry and some licorice. Pretty tannic though, so this could still use more time
overall: very firm. It explodes off the blocks but dissapears fast on the pallate. If it held up like started, it would be in the classic range easy, unfortunetly it just doesn't hold. It still needs more time, maybe even another 10 years

As it is.

PnP. ABV 13%.

Bonne longueur.
Boire pendant encore 10-15 ans.

Excellent with 3 hours decanting. Will definitely keep for another 10-15 years.

Nicely balanced, opened up after about an hour. Fruit still vibrant, with nice earth and leather notes. Nose a bit restrained. Drinking well right now, but still has some headroom.

1995 Bordeaux Transit Strike Horizontal (Salute Restaurant, NYC): Sweet and full, a bit young. Some heavy fine tannins. Great nose. Like it.

Keeps drinking well and can be enjoyed for the next few years. Near peak imho. Might even merit a 95.

This has come around nicely and is now drinking well. Sweet, black fruit with leather, chocolate and (a lot of) liquorice on the expressive nose. On the palate black chocolate, sweet black fruit, sweet tannins and liquorice. Nice mouthfeel, reminds me of the Cos 95 I had recently, but this is somewhat lighter and more ready. Very enjoyable now and definitely has come out of its tannic shell.
