Stood upright for 2 days and decanted for 2 hours prior to serving. Tannins are smooth and fully integrated. Cherry, plum, violet, and licorice on the palate. Medium-long finish. Started to fade 1.5 hours after serving, so believe it was served at the optimal time. The fruit is unmissably there and the acidity is, too, making this a very well-balanced aged Priorat. A unanimous favorite at a tasting with 11 different wines.
This wine is drinking very well at the moment. I have one more left and am tempted to hold on to it for another 3-4 years to see some tertiary characters develop. At the same time, I wouldn’t blame myself if I popped the cork in a year’s time. My first but definitely not last Mogador.

Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club": Priorat (@ My place): Beautiful and complex bouquet with sweet spices, dark berries, a pleasant dose of oak. Same on the palate, juicy and complex, some smoky oak and really delicious and harmonious. Perfectly ready now. Great wine.

Deep, dark toned nose. The plate is dense but years have tamed this beast, black cherries, black olives, oak-spice, smoke, fennel and cassis infused Cabernet Sauvignon elements. Great the way oak has melded into the fruit component, albeit the sweetness is somehow still there. Good fresh acidity and sweet, non obtrusive tannins. Stately and modern but thanks to the age not exactly polished. This sits comfortable on its plateau of maturity and is very enjoyable now.

In a great window. It’s got an expressive nose of dark fruit and some age. Palate still has sufficient refined tannins, with a beautiful blend of fruit cake to it.

Has that great deep fruity funk of an older Grenache for the first handful of hours open. Dark fruits, tar, asphalt and paint, and jammy dark cherries. Still well structured, balanced, layered and complex with a nice long finish. Great wine.

Decanted for an hour and drank over 3. Aromas are a bit muted but rich. BlackBerry, leather, tobacco notes. Tannins and acidity are well-integrated. Really nice. Probably best to drink over the next couple years.

Ruby color with a slight garnet rim. Stewed red fruit, spice and licorice on the nose. Soft palate, tannins all resolved , medium+ finish. I don't know if I had a compromised bottle but this does not look like it would age much longer. Drink up.

Still drinking very well. Drank with paella with chicken and shrimp. Wine continues to have a very pleasant cherry profile, with minor notes of smoky meats and cardamom. Very smooth. Continues to age gracefully.

In a beautiful place. At peak for me. Lost its baby fat but still held onto the fruit. All that Grenache fleshy fruit but with some older Bordeaux-esque dried fruit and grilling herb notes. Totally my jam, and why I love Priorat. Drink up!

On opening initial taste and smell of Port, aerated and decanted for 3 hours and the wine settled beautifully. Typical Priorat flavours, big wine with integrated tannins.

It’s been about 12 years since I’ve tasted this wine and I have to say that it has matured beautifully. While still a fairly big wine, the mouthfeel of the deep, dark, rich, red and black fruit is is almost silky in its presentation, and while this may sound contradictory, there’s still some barnyardy rusticity present that creates interesting nuance. All in all, quite a delight. I’m sad this is my last bottle but happy that I overlooked for the last 12 years so that it had time to develop into what it is today.

Stunning wine in a stunning place, highly recommend. Last bottle of 3 - on the hunt for more of this of any vintage. Aerated in bottle for a couple hours, will definity tolerate a decant. Paired perfectly with roasted lamb shanks. Drink or hold but definitely leaning on the drink - this is fully mature and at peak with a balanced core which will provide a few more years with proper cellaring but I see no further upside to cellaring. Very well balanced and integrated with tannins essentially all gone and some integrated oak still present, full bodied yet surprisingly soft mouth feel, deep purple with some peripheral bricking present and a very long aftertaste. Nose initially somewhat muted but after swirling was explosively aromatic with plum, dark cherry, smoke and rose petals and enough of a hint of black pepper to tickle the nose just a bit. Up front integrated oak, dark stone fruit and a hint of sweetness with a much earthier darker terroir driven finish.

Beautiful and complex bouquet with sweet herbs and spices and figs. On the palate sweet herbs and spices as well, mocha, chocolate, beautiful and elegant acidity. Soft tannin. Ready now and not tired yet. Beautiful wine.

Decanted for approximately 30 minutes. Agree with KPB's post...except for the bitter note which I did not experience. Hence my sligjtly higher score. This bottle was similar to my last one 6 years ago. Not much changed except perhaps not as jammy and big but definitely more round and approachable. Still a very lovely wine. Needs a big hunk of flavorful meat to go with it. Drink up.

Deep purple, with a nose showing plums, sour cherry, and a spicy tar aroma. A bit assertive on the palate, with roasted fruit flavors and a slightly bitter finish. Good, but clearly marked by the heat of that scorching summer. Time to breath really helped: after 90m the bitter note receded and the wine seemed far more integrated. This led me to up my score from 89 initially to 92. But the ‘07 is a remarkably wild, unruly wine. Not for the timid. Pair it with a spicy lamb stew or a Texas bbq...

Drinking perfect now. Still some grip and fruit but with secondary leather notes. Don’t think it will improve from here but I believe it can stay at this peak level for another 3 to 5 years.

So my wife has been finding new recipes to try almost every night so that we do not get too bored with quarantine. Anyway yesterday morning she gave me a recipe for panko crusted veal cutlets in a creamy mustard sauce. So I called my good friend Michael to discuss my wine options. It came down to either a white Rhone or a grenache. So being the man of the house I made the decision which was to ask my wife if she wanted red or white. She said red so down to the cellar I went looking for the 2005 but could only locate the 2007. The cork really broke upon extraction and I had to dig out most of it and push the rest through. So I decanted through a vinturi and let sit for a couple of hours while I messed up the kitchen trying to make dinner (which came our really good by the way). Anyway the nose on the wine was dark plums. The palate was berries, plums, a touch of licorice, a hint of white pepper and just a slight hint of baked apple that came out on the finish which was moderate too long. Its 13 years old but definitely has more to go. BTW a lot of sediment so if you get the cork out intact filter it.

Nothing short of exceptional! Red and blue fruit I’d complimented by peat moss, Mediterranean spice and garrigue. Captivating in all aspects. The nose is tranquil but intellectual. Layers upon layers of goodness here. This wine still has a long life ahead of it, but is amazing today. Great juice!

Lange afdronk. Opened and let it breath for 2 hours. I was expecting a super tannic, concentrated Priorat but instead this 07 is surprisingly open for business and, that's the best, with a subtle, rounded and elegant palate that carries a perfect balance between sweet, resolved tannins and acidity. Wonderful.

Bold, beautiful fruit in the first hour or so: well balanced and extremely affable. Then getting a little less exciting, like it ran out of energy by welcoming and introducing everyone, and now it'd be more comfortable with a few minutes to itself. Like last time, this is best without too much aeration, suggesting drink in the next few years. Best now-2022

Poured this wine through an aerator. It is drinking beautifully, probably the most hedonistic wine I've tasted in a few years. Rich dark fruit with just the right touches of spice and cigar box - not earthy or funky at all - well balanced with a long finish. I've drunk this wine previously and it was very good, but not this good. Don't see how it can get better.

This wine doesn't f-around. I thought the first bottle I had was cooked, but this second bottle cannot have suffered the same fate. What a Dense, full bodied wine this is. Full bodied, baking spice, some black notes and some earth in the middle. This wine still has a rather acidic, tannic, and torqued up finish. The burn on the tongue is still there even 3 hours later. I think this is just how this wine is, and I really think that what this bottle would benefit the most from is sitting in the cellar for another 10 years to help it kind of figure itself out. I wasn't the most pleased with this wine. This was the last of a couple that I had. Will be interesting to taste the 2004 version of this wine and see where things are.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #122; Spain, Priorat (By BS): Beautifully rich, complex and ripe bouquet with dark berries, herbs and spices, chocolate and vanilla. On the palate dark fruit, chocolate, beautiful spiciness, good acidity and round, soft tannin with still a good and pleasant bite. Elegance and finesse and still powerful. A great wine with still a good future until well into the 2020’s.

Continues to be a solid wine. Didn’t notice this in an earlier tasting, but the nose is not at all consistent with the taste. The nose is very muted and has a chemical-like note. When we took a sip, oh boy! Great cherry fruit and smoked meat notes. Glad to have two more bottles left.

Required about an hour of decanting before truly opening up, with no noticeable sediment. A big, well balanced wine that features dark fruit, lifting acidity, and a backbone of smooth tannins that comes together to deliver a layered wine of depth while still retaining a nimbleness and litheness that makes it a joy to drink.

Aggressive and evolves quickly to something very fruit forward and smokey. Penetrating. Such quick changes, while improvements, have me wondering how much longer this has got. Five years max? -2022
Incredible wine, complex and intriguing. It requires a couple hours of decanting and continues evolving in the glass... Strats with subtle notes of olives and dry fruits and gradually opens up with strong expressions of prune, figs, black fruits...

My first experience with Clos Mogador and even though I enjoyed it, it was not in the same league as the Ridge Monte Bello 1997 nor the Jean-Michel Stephan Côte-Rotie Coteaux du Tupin 2009. Still pretty young, it doesn't show any trace of evolution. The aromas are still on the primary side (a lot of red and black cherries). It's quite dense without being heavy. Wait another 5-10+ years.

Lovely, interesting wine. PnP and consumed slowly over 4+ hours. This wine is still quite dark without any bricking. The only sign of age was some very light sediment. It took a while to balance out and for the fruit to show through. Once it did, though, bright cherry flavors gave way to a richer dense blackberry with a subtle hint of coulis-like sweetness. Tannins were present but well-integrated. And the finish is long with a great deal of complexity. This wine changed multiple times over the course of the evening, showing a great deal of complexity. I imagine this has as much as 10 years left, and will try not to drink my remaining two bottles for at least a couple years.
Shared with friends at a Spanish-themed dinner. Notes of smoke and cherry in a well balanced wine. Opened about an hour before serving and was very approachable from the start
Rather odd right now. It didn't show much fruit per say, but an interesting mouth filling sense of dark and mineral goodness. I would have thought the tannins would have mellowed more. This is a really interesting wine.

Every sip is a pleasure. Dark fruit and cherry fruit flavors with some plum flavor on the finish. The oak and mineral have blended together into a nice graphite core that really complements the fruit. I think that it's pretty darn yummy.
Almost sprang out of the bottle up on opening. Wow. Very impressive, but not over the top. Very fruity but obviously with the backbone to last. Good balance and complexity. A real joy
Decanted through a vinturi and let sit for an hour. A big wine, dark berries on the the nose, the palate is blackberry, blueberry, olive and forest floor. A long lush finish.
Multi-dimensional, beautifully balanced, with suave, comfortable presence without being ponderous. No need to decant though a little air in the glass helps. Years ahead of this one to potentially gain additional complexity but great fruit and so drinkable now.
Popped and poured. Initially a bit closed, opened up after an hour. Fruit forward medium tannins. This is blend of 4 grapes but you can definitely taste the 40% Garnacha component. Very good somewhat easy drinking wine at this point. Drink or hold.
Mixed Priorat Tasting: Dense blackberry fruit with dirt, olives and a long impressive aftertaste. The wine is however a little impure/muddy and seems off balance.
Popped the rest of the bottle tonight. Herbal notes on a dark loamy blackberry alcoholic backbone. That's just about how to sum this one up. Still had some heat on the finish. Dried rose petal and pie spice. Blackberry middle, condensed, full bodied, big. There's nothing medium about this wine at all. Complex, chalky and earthy finish. This one still had quite a bit of acidity and EtOH to blow off, but was enjoyable tonight.

Used the Coravin for the first half of the bottle. Two days later opened up for the rest of the bottle. Beautiful tonight. Very rich and supple. Tonight very well balanced. Much more so than two days ago. Light yet very robust and intense. Blackberry syrup wrapped in dust. Dates. Leather. Hints of cinnamon and cardamon and a bit of rosemary. Wet crushed roses with a wee bit of citrus...perhaps orange. Crushed limestone. Should be good for years to come. And after sitting half full (empty?) for two days it is drinking wonderfully tonight.

Priorat Tasting (Private Location): Beautiful clear, deep purple color. Lots of primary aromas, dominated by the fruit. It has great potential, but is far too young at the moment. Alcohol, tannins and acidity are not yet perfectly integrated and it has not yet developed tertiary aromas. Don’t drink it now, it would be a waste.

This wine is a big, fat NR for me. I BELIEVE it will be a 94/95 when it properly matures, but it's probably 4-5 yrs away from that. Tasted from Coravin sample therefore I cannot comment on cork, but capsule and cork position appeared perfect. Nose is a little herbal and nitrogenous. The initial taste is astringent, black cherry, and QUITE a bit of it. VERY fruit forward wine. EASY to drink. Cigar box, shoe leather, and very tannic on the finish with a little menthol. Thank goodness I tasted this out of Coravin -- rest of bottle will sit 1-2 years. Ready to go in 2016 and good through 2025.

From memory: New Years Eve. Tremendous wine – lots of black fruit, leather, barnyard and exotic spices. Has improved substantially since I first had it over two years ago. The oak has integrated nicely and the massive primary fruit settled down somewhat ensuring a more nuanced and harmonious palate. Still pretty muscular, but far from overdone. Has enough stuffing to last for at least another 10 years, and will probably improve during the next five (93-94 points).

Decanted 2 hours. Dark inky purple to the edge. The wine was served in inappropriate stemware so could not effectively comment on the nose. Very rich and jammy up front. This is a big wine with well integrated tannins and a medium acid with a medium finish. Looking forward to how this wine evolves.

Funky on the nose with the cab coming through more than anything else. A little beef. The palate is intense with fresh acidity and bright berries. Tight and tannic, this needs 5 years at least unless you have a giant steak hanging around which happily I do right now :)

Tapas and wine - our house (Miami, Fl.): Tapas Night. Not a strong showing. Medium flavors and body, seemed to be missing the spine, backbone to bring the flavors, tannins and textures together. No one had anything outstanding to say about this wine. Perhaps provenance? Will wait for next bottle.
Drank after about a half hour decant. This wine was a little slow to open up and reveal its beauty, but eventually it's showed the wonders of subtly portrayed dark cherry and spicy characteristics. We love this wine!

It was a gret time to check in on this wine. No doubt it was a bit of infanticide but considering the crowd this was opened with, this wine stood up spectacularly well.
Nose, while never shy, develops over time, first it was primary fruits, a bit of barnyardiness, funkiness, spicy and some licorice. On the palate, there is a great density of fruit, spices, very fresh still, tight and not all together entirely but made a good presentation of itself. Great length and good acidity for structure.

Regular dinner group (@ PZ): In the bouquet first the barnyard shows, then the dark fruit, sweet spicess and some licorice. On the palate concentrated dark fruits, chocolate, sweet spices again, good acidity and bitterness. Quite alcoholic; almost port like. Still very youthful. Hope the alcohol will show less heat after some more ageing; maybe I should wait until 2015 at least before opening a bottle. 90 for now, but possibly a bit more when/if the alcohol is less aggressive.

Spanish Tasting (Oak Barrel, Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Deep ruby coloured. The nose has pronounced intensity with aromas of farmyard, toast, black fruit, brambles, sweet spice, leather, cream vanilla and a certain herbaceous quality. In the mouth the wine has lots of everything, acid, body, flavour intensity, tannin and alcohol. The tannin is bone dry, grippy and slightly unripe. The fruits are dominated by black currant and berry with a slight menthol quality. The fruit carries on a the long finish and keeps giving. Very savoury. Very good but, for me, something not quite right.

Medium dark red; somewhat closed, pointed licorice; nice sweet attack, good body and fruit, however a bit to the lean side, not fleshy, some tobacco, nice tannins; very agreeable, long aftertaste, which however flattens out the taste; a "correct" wine but lacking the last bit of excitement

Decanted for just over two hours before tasting. Inky purple colour. On the nose; fairly complex with hints of dark red berries, cherry liqueur, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, garrigue, smoky oak and a touch of barnyard funk. On the palate; dense, rich and concentrated – almost to the point of being absurd. Fortunately there’s enough structure to ensure a sense of balance. This is massive stuff! Tasty, but sadly the finer nuances detectable on the nose drowns in a tidal wave of monolithic fruit and oak once the wine hits the palate. Begs for rustic food. Worked well with lamb ragù and mashed potatoes.

Chris Cannan Portfolio Tasting (St. Regis - Washington, DC): I was pretty turned off by its nose - dark plums, heavy baking spices, dark chocolate and toasted oak - not what I'm usually enticed by. The palate, however, was far more exciting. Despite the over-done nose the palate was balanced and as close to harmonious as I've ever tasted in a priorat. The flavors were still dense, but it worked for whatever reason. This had a sour cherry, dried floral, subtle espresso and clove spice on the palate with a tiny hint of balsamic. I'm sure this could age for decades...would be interesting to wait.

Powerful, barnyard smell with a hint of truffle. Reminded me of an aged Chambertin. Dark red fruit, licorice, spice, truffle. Became very smooth with 20 second plus finish. However after 2 hours the finish seemed to go away and the wine faded into dark bitter cherry.

Dark black-purple, and glass staining. This had the typical Granache funk to the nose which started to blow off a bit as noted earlier here, but persisted. The palate was quite complex, and very forward until it had a couple hours of air. When everything came together though, wow, this is really good. Just the right amount of everything, and this is still young... I couldn't imagine anything better with the duck breast I had at a local French restaurant, plenty of acid to go with food. I can't wait to try this again in another 10 years (argh!).

Definitely a “wow” wine that jumps right out at you from bottle to glass. Beautiful, glass staining black ruby color with a powerful nose of dark fruit and some earth. Lush, velvety, thick yet still remains balanced. Finishing lasting for 20+ seconds. Only complaint would be this did soften quite a bit over the night and become a little less complex in doing so.

Great wine.

Decant thru filter. With bbq (red meat, corn, onion, bacon/asparagus, etc.).
Fig, plum, blackberry, crowberry, cherrycoke, pepper. Sandy, nebbiolo tannins, good acidity and a lot of fruit. US Cab comes to mind…
Thought it was fading, but this is perfect now. Complex and deep.
93+, a real treat with grilled meat and some chimichurri!

The more I drink this wine, the more I like it. Rich and complex. It changes its taste complexion over the course of a few hours. Notes of tobacco, leather, peach, cassis. Nice acidity and tannins. This is a very enjoyable wine.

Typical large extracted Priorat. Gobs of dark fruits, leather, tar, and tobacco. Had w eclectic Latin fusion food, but mostly this is a red meat wine. Will likely improve and integrate a bit more in the 5 years.

A real favourite since long, nevertheless a disappointment. The bottle drunk today has been in my cellar since 2010, in acceptable conditions. Good vivid colour, cassis, cigarr box but with the feeling of being over the top. Medium bodied. No real power.

Lovely wine. Big and rustic on opening but quickly rounded out into something incredibly long and complex. Deep dark fruits. Just great.

Drank after about a half hour decant. This wine was a little slow to open up and reveal its beauty, but eventually it's showed the wonders of subtly portrayed dark cherry and spicy characteristics. We love this wine!

Purple and opaque, with notes of asian spice, floral, pencil and black fruits. Full bodied with a long finish. This is just beginning to show its stuff and should be sensational in a few years

Still deeply purple. Plenty of time ahead of this wine and, I'd say, plenty of time to wait before it should be touched. It's big all round - mouth coatingly big.

Fantastic. At first, extremely structured with a nose of charcoal and roasted herbs. After a good hour or two of air and a splash decant through a Vinturi, it really softened and opened up. 93-94, great QPR.

Dense, dusty, rich cedar. Concentrated tart, candied cherry, juicy and vivid. Layers of black and red fruit. Really big with a lot of length. While drinking opulently now, this seems to have more complexity in store.

Very good one. A wine you want to share and please a crowd with

Although some blackberry peeks through, the nose is dominated by barnyard aromas, The palate on the otherhand is blackberry, cassis, loamy earth and some white pepper, leather and firm but not obtrusive tannins on the 30 second finish. This wine seems to be quite youthful but drinking very well today. If I hadn't seen the bottle I would have assumed this was from the southern Rhone.
