  • Cloudy orange-ruby color with a hint of brown. Must, raspberries, some mushroom and spices with wild strawberries on the nose. Acrid raspberries on the attack with strawberries far into a delayed finish. A little flat and well past its prime but the lovely secondary red fruit notes make this wine sing.

  • As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the rolling hills of Bordeaux, I find myself immersed in the depths of a bottle that transcends time and space - the 1975 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. To endeavor to encapsulate its essence is to embark on a sensory journey that intertwines with memories of past encounters, adventures, and the pleasures of life.

Oh, she opens at two hours and it's so beautiful and warm.

Let us first approach this enigmatic elixir through the lens of an aristocrat, one who is accustomed to the finer things in life. From the moment the cork is delicately removed, a symphony of aromas envelops the senses, unveiling layers of complexity that speak of its noble lineage. The bouquet unfolds with a flourish of ripe blackcurrants, intertwined with subtle hints of cedar, leather, and a whisper of tobacco leaf. Each inhalation is a dance of opulence, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship that has gone into the creation of this masterpiece.

As an adventurer, I am drawn to the untamed spirit that lies within this bottle, waiting to be unleashed with each sip. Upon the palate, the wine unfurls with a grace befitting of a seasoned explorer navigating uncharted territories. Velvety tannins caress the tongue, carrying with them flavors of dark cherries, plums, and a touch of graphite that evokes visions of distant mountain peaks shrouded in mist. There is a sense of wanderlust in every drop, a longing for the unknown that beckons one to venture deeper into its depths.

For the rock musician within me, the 1975 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a symphony in a bottle, a harmonious blend of notes that reverberate with the rhythm of life itself. Each chord strikes a chord within the soul, resonating with a melody that is both hauntingly beautiful and utterly intoxicating. It is a wine that begs to be savored alongside the pulsating beat of a live performance, a celebration of hedonistic pleasures and the pursuit of passion.

I am transported back to a sultry evening spent beneath the stars, in the company of a Navajo girl whose beauty was matched only by her spirit of adventure. Together, we stole away into the foothills, where the scent of sagebrush mingled with the intoxicating aroma of grilled steak.

She, with her radiant smile and eyes that sparkled like the stars above, produced a bottle of wine as precious as any gemstone. The 1975 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, a treasure unearthed from the depths of the cellar, became the catalyst for an evening of passion and revelry. We drank deeply from its wellspring of flavors, losing ourselves in the heady embrace of its intoxicating embrace.

As the hours slipped away like grains of sand which blew across the Navajo desert, the wine began to unfurl its secrets, much like the Navajo girl who shared this moment with me. What had once been a tightly wound tapestry of flavors began to soften and bloom, revealing nuances that had previously eluded detection. It was as if the wine had taken on a life of its own, mirroring the ebb and flow of our own desires.

In the light of the rising sun, against a backdrop of rugged mountains silhouetted against the dawn, we shared a moment of perfect communion. The taste of wine lingered on her lips, mingling with the salt of her skin as we surrendered to the ecstasy of the moment and she let me….oh a memory etched into my soul, a reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the immutable power of love.

And so, as I raise my glass to toast the memory of that unforgettable evening, I am reminded once again of the transformative power of wine. The 1975 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is more than a mere libation; it is a conduit for memories, a vessel for the soul, and a testament to the enduring legacy of those who dare to embrace life's greatest pleasures. Cheers to love, to adventure, and to the timeless allure of a bottle of wine shared beneath the stars.

  • This was better than the last bottle, and other than being a little reticent for the first ~30 minutes open, was really singing. Drinking wonderfully.

  • Double-decanted. A bit of old bottle funk and muddled flavors upon first opening. After an hour, the fruit came out and was drinking very well. Soft but still a good bit of life left. Drink over next five years.

  • Elegant nose of tobacco, wood and hints of fruit. Still lively with a couple of tannins left, could have wished for some more fruit, decent length.

  • Kleur: Opvallend doorzichtig, oranjebruin met een brede rand. Aroma / bouquet: Een bouquet voor de liefhebber (zoals ik ;-) )… Serieus tertiair met tonen van maggi / madeira. Smaak / Afdronk: Boterzacht. Zachte zuren, zijdezachte tannines. Maar nog steeds behoorlijk in balans. Algemeen / potentieel: 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 15 + Smaak / Afdronk: 14 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 93/100

Colour: Strikingly transparent, orange-brown with a wide edge. Aroma / bouquet: A bouquet for the enthusiast (like me ;-) )… Serious tertiary with notes of maggi / madeira. Taste / Aftertaste: Buttery soft. Soft acids, silky tannins. But still quite balanced. • Absolutely fully mature with tertiary flavors of dark spices and Pauillac dirt. Soft and smooth on the finish and avoids the harsh finish of most '75's. Drink up!

  • Love it as I did from this 4.5L jeroboam opened (and since stored in an airtight, spigoted plastic bladder) 7 weeks ago! As bottled in this format, the wine could stay at this beautiful stage for years to come.

  • From jeroboam (then 4.5L in Bordeaux, 5.0L since 1978). Originally opened 19 days ago (without CT notes), the balnce transferred into 3L spigoted plastic bag and "burped" to virtually air-free. Another absolutely stunning showing, minor cedar and cigar box notes taking a backseat to the abundant soft dark cherry fruit. ZERO signs of tiredness. A lovely thing.

  • A 65th Birthday Celebration, Slightly COVID Delayed (EL Ideas - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Great nose combines spice, tobacco, black truffles, and black plum. Mature aromas, but fully+ mature flavors are slightly less thrilling. 93 point nose, 87 point palate.

  • (Mostly) Bordeaux 1975: Standout nose here, beautifully feminine, sweet spices, cardamom, sweet tobacco; the palate is so finely woven, incredible purity and balance here, superb length as well. Pure harmony. One of the wines of the evening. 18.5/20

  • From jero, rather similar to a bottle we had last year for the same birthday occasion. The jero took longer to open up. After an hour or so the fruit had picked up weight and richness ultimately getting to mid-weight. The complexity and nuance is where this signs -- loads of dried herbs, tobacco, bell pepper and ash. Delicious.

  • Drank the ‘75 and ‘79 side by side. Both came from bottles with slightly depressed corks - the cause of which may have affected the quality of the wine.

Decanted both wines for roughly two hours. Both were delicious but decidedly different in vertical performance. The ‘75 had a wonderful bouquet - fruity, earthy and spicy. However, the wine didn’t perform as well on the palate or finish. It was tasty but not as complex as the nose and the wine seemed to fade in your mouth - all the flavors coming to a quick stop.

However the ‘79 had the opposite problem. It was never much on the nose. It smelled like a fairly average wine - but in the mouth the flavors were very balanced and complex. Fruit and earth with a touch of mushroom and spice - it all settled so nicely in the palate and continued through a long finish.

Those sharing the wines all wished we could combine the nose of the ‘75 with the palate and finish of the ‘79 to form a 100 point wine. Maybe we should have mixed them together!

  • The wine is just excellent. Decanted at 5, started drinking at 6:30. It improved over the course of almost three hours before tailing off. The wine is great, and it's got time ahead holding at this level. Truffles, leather, soil, the memory of lush dark fruit. Still vibrant, good acidity, not a rich wine, more about detail and clarity, harmony. the nose is TEXTBOOK. Tobacco leaf, cedar, cassis, gently stewed red berries. A truly fine old claret, sheer joy.

  • Bright, mature nose of heathland, samphire, charred meats, cherry liqueur.
Robust, savoury, tannic palate with high acidity, ginseng Oolong tea, soy, damp earth, mineralite, leather, graphite, saline. Secondary, devoid of fruit, but very fresh and delightful.

  • Blackberry and brambles on the palate with with wet earth and hints of leather. Dark fruit predominates the flavor profile. Long and elegant. Very nice wine but unfortunately it was paired with a 1967 Latour and 1966 Haut Brion which stole some of it's thunder. Very nice wine.

  • Double decanted three hours before drinking. A great bottle, classic and complex aromatics of dark fruit, leather and soil, just a lovely perfumed mature claret. Beautiful on the palate too, structured just enough but graceful and pretty. This is a delicious and classic mature Bordeaux and I’m not sure at all why this vintage at Lalande hasn’t been well appreciated.

  • Nothing like the bottle I had a decade ago, though with older bottles there's no way to tell if it wasn't stored as well as the first or if it's just declined over a decade. Not a bad wine, even for 75, but lacking the fruit of the previous bottle. Solid aromatically with old leather, graphite and green bell pepper on the nose.

  • A perfect bottle and cork that was like brand new. The wine was so fresh -- big nose of cedar, bell pepper and smoke. The palate is fresh with medium concentration fruit. So complex with great length.

  • The eleventh of 14 vintages of PL back to ‘61 courtesy of Mark Golodetz. This wine has a good reputation in a tough vintage but time is not helping it as its beginning to show that rough-edged side of this overly tannic vintage. The fruit is pretty much gone which does not bode well for the future.

  • Decanted off the sediment at 6:30. The aromatics were always there and always classic and lovely, but at 7:30 when poured the wine still felt a bit mute in the glass. It took another full hour, maybe a bit more, and then the wine blossomed. it's not got the midpalate density, the flavor pungency, the overall impact that I've experienced from greater vintages of this wine. But it's beautiful. Gentle and mature and showing some tertiary notes, the nose at its apex was crystalline, highly detailed and articulate in its expression of tobacco leaf, pencil lead, damp soil, and still luscious dark blackberry and cassis fruit. These carried over to the palate, which at its best was almost as articulate, equally crystalline, and truly delicious. If this bottle is representative, I'd decant a few hours in advance of drinking this gentle and beautiful old wine.

  • Bottle and cork in great condition. Poured much darker and youthful than I expected. Initial aromas were unappealing, almost sewer-like. Was starting to get worried but decided to pour two glasses and come back to them. Sure enough, about 30-45 minutes later the wine was in a good place.

Really unique nose of baked bread, ironed linen. Palate has raspberry, marmalade, firm tannin, orange acid and mild caramel flavors. Really elegant bordeaux and showing well for its age. Would go very nice with a savory chicken, duck or pork dish. It has good life remaining and can easily last through a 3 hour dinner.

  • Slow-ox'd for 2 hours before drinking. This was lovely, classic, and seemed 15 years younger than it was. Classic notes of earth, cedar, red currant, and pencil. On the palate, this was very much still vibrant: plenty of fruit, a solid streak of acid, and a surprising amount of tannins remaining. I don't know that this will improve much, but I won't worry about drinking the rest of my bottles quickly.

  • Dinner at Dragon Phoenix. Pristine bottle with in neck fill and both cork and label in great condition. PnP, took care not to decant considering age. A close examination of the cork revealed a tiny inscription noting that the bottle has been recorked at the Chateau in 1993. Pale ruby colour. Intense nose with nice aromatics. Can sniff this all day. On the palate, fruit was very much alive, with notes of forest floor and mushrooms typical of mature Bordeaux. Some evolution in the glass with sweetness of fruit evident after some exposure to air. The wine was more youthful than one expects given the age, no doubt helped by the recorking. Overall, a nice reminder of the grace and elegance of well aged, mature Bordeaux from a good producer.

  • Decanted and served from a pristine bottle with fill into the neck and intact cork. Stunningly youthful color. Fragrant nose. Silky smooth on the palate without too much complexity. A touch of leather and long restrained finish. Well stored bottles should last many years.

  • Colour: Red, starting to turn to brick. Nose: Spice and licorice. Palate: Still acidic and retaining some tannins. There was still some red fruit there, but overall the wine was lean, although with a long and pleasant aftertaste. Maybe the bottle was not stored 100% (the cork came apart upon opening), or (more likely) it´s time to drink up the ´75s.

  • Ch. Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Vertical Tasting with Nicolas Glumineau (Taberna del Alabardero): Smells better than the '78, but doesn't taste nearly as good. Aromatics are classic and fully mature, a very perfumed cedariness. On the palate it's red-fruited and plump, but also kind of edgy. Nicolas thinks that after several years of rot-plagued vintages, everyone picked the grapes early in '75 just to be safe, though he does consider this one of the successful ones. Me, I've had better. It does start to get a little bit more in line with the '78 with more time in the glass, but not nearly enough.

  • Pichon Lalande dinner with Nicolas Glumineau (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): This is a textbook example of a fully mature classic claret. Fully mature harmonious nose displaying subtle red fruit, red currant, red cherry, cedar, a hint of caramel, lead pencil, leather and earth. Fully integrated palate, still remnants of tannins that remind us the vintage, harmonious and a seamless subtle finish. It would be a wonderful wine to enjoy in a cold winter night in front of a fireplace.

  • Soiled and torn labels but in neck fill. Decanted the sediments and drank over 2-3 hours dinner. Excellent display of sweet red fruits, leather and hints of vanilla. Low acidity. Texture is round and supple with integrated oak. Tannins mostly resolved but there is still some hardness towards the finish. Tasted 10 years younger with no signs of decline here but seems to lack some charm. Held wonderfully throughout the duration of dinner.

  • Quick decant 20 minutes before drinking. Some green notes right away, which receded over time to black fruit, earthy tones, and dried flowers. Not the most elegant PLL, but also not showing the hardness of the vintage either. Drank really well over three hours. Great QPR.

  • Not a great bottle. Low shoulder fill, intact but soaked cork. Tired mildly oxidized nose but a little green pepper and telltale Lanade on the palate--then died after about 1hr of air. This was a pretty tired bottle but no obvious flaw. Clearly different than other's experiences.

  • PnP. Still going strong after more than 40yrs, this bottle was in pristine condition. Slightly restrained but classic pauillac nose. Tannins mostly resolved. A beautiful, elegant, mature example of a very well made left bank bordeaux. Probably slightly past its peak but immensely enjoyable tonight. Drink up.

  • Tasted double blind... Pop and poured with no decanting. Beautiful nose of sweet tobacco, green herb, and cedar. Both color and nose revealing that this wine has some age on it. The tannin was completely resolved and it has a smooth, silky finish. It reminded me of the '82 Leoville Las Cases that I had three weeks ago. For the 1975 vintage, this wine showed very well. Impressive!

  • Seth's 40th Blowout (Cumming, GA): Crimson core with large bricking, sediment; very Bordeaux, stank, green pepper, slightly warm temperature, currant, lots of tobacco, blue cheese, wet earth; sweet soy on the palate, dried currants, fruitcake, mushroom, penetrating cherry, smoky, deeper, soft and has lost its power, almost completely resolved, a touch cloying, seemingly riper vintage; thought it was old but not this old, wow 40 years!; very good.

  • Still deep ruby but a touch of transparent rim. Came from an OWC but this only had a mid-shoulder fill so though I should attack his bottle first. Reassuringly fragrance of Pichon from the moment it was poured into the decanter. Jasmine, cedar, mint, forest floor, iron but also a sweet cherry fruit compote nose all together giving a wonderful bouquet. So fragrant, so impressive, such good value! Delicious to drink, still has good freshness and just a kiss of tannin to remind you that it was probably undrinkable for the first. 20+ years! Now it is all fully integrated and a superb Bordeaux that is a testament to great terroir and May's great wine making and stewardship of this property until she sold it in 2006.

  • Exceptional bottle. All finesse. Rich purple coloring, fruit compote laced with some pencil lead notes. Smooth delivery. Aromas also balanced. High fill, almost youthful cork. Double decanted for sediment but not air time. In a great spot. Of the five 1975s we opened this is the only one that I think may yet reveal more of interest with further age. A delight.

  • Absolutely amazing. Of course the cork showed the age, but the wine itself still looked very lively in the glass. And also in the mouth it was a dream. Almost no signs of overageing. In a blind tasting I would have said "15 to 20 years of age". After one or two hours it started to fade away.

Old Bordeaux almost at it's best!

  • What a total suprise! Beautiful red color with a wonderful nose that still made it seem like it was 10-15 years younger than what it was. Palate was equally impressive, still holding good structure and balance. Tasted like a perfectly aged Bordeaux. No hint of raisin. Continued to drink up until the 1.5 hour mark of it being in the glass and it outshone the '83 Pichon Lalande we also had (although I was the only person who felt this way). Would love to have a few more bottles of this to open each year for the next 5 years.

  • Double decanted 3 hours before serving. This was the best red of the evening. Elegant, complete, and holding its own. This was the best '75 of recent tastings of LLC, VCC, Mouton, Lynch Bages, and Montrose. • Given the age of the wine, I was surprised at the color and cleartiy of the wine. It was decanted before being served and there was only small amount of sediment. The cork was moist and fresh. Most at the those at the table suggested the wine had a bit of a barnyard smell, but I found the wine to be have a spicy aroma. The colour was rudy with just a hint of a tawny edge. The wine was very gentle and smooth and stood up well with no noticable faults.

  • Litt under BN-fill, korken kom ut i to deler.

I expect the remaining bottles will be quite good based on my previous experiences with this wine, as well as the fact that this wine held its own even with the low fill. Very soft as the tannins are fully resolved and the wine has a nice but muted complexity on the finish. From a perfect cellar and purchased on release so if you own this wine, throw a party now and drink it before it's too late, if it isn't already.

Still a medium ruby core, with only modest bricking toward the rim; youthful appearance, obviously well-stored. Powerful aromas of black fruits, black currant, saddle leather, and dried herbs. This took very little time to open up and once it did, it remained fairly linear, relying on its well-developed secondary and tertiary characteristics to hold one's interest. Medium + acids, still very big in the mouth, with very fine tannins giving this the proper framing and finish. I don't see this getting better, drink thru 2017. positively lovely, recommended

  • Decanter Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Masterclass (Landmark Hotel London): Light garnet colour fading to a tawny rim. Mature and expressive nose with cedar, wet earth and forest floor, still some stewed fruit, old wood, ash and tar. Chocolatey palate, inky, sweet and bitter with macerated and dried fruit. Very flavourful and weighty. Fruit is fading but is still there. Bitter sweet finish. Not the best mature claret but still a very enjoyably old wine.

  • Light in weight and aging but still a decent wine, very pure; however, it doesn't bring in the bacon...

  • Martin Weiner's Magnificent Ch. Latours (1934-2002) Plus the Best of ths Grand Cru Neighbors (Martin Weiner): Garnet, wide rim, noticeable browning. Mushroom, wet pine, and loam on the nose. A hint of sourness on the palate. Red and blue fruits starting to fade, good tannins and well balanced. Smooth with a long finish. Very good for a vintage with a poor reputation.

  • I know that all the experts said that the Tanin would never leave, but it has..drank with cold meats and still good if old fashioned. Much better with cheese when it comes allive...if you can ever find it,buy it.

  • Le Gavroche Welcomes Gildas d’Ollone (Vancouver, BC): Mystery wine #1. This bottle was a real treat. A subtle nose, featuring dark cherry, dust, sour plum and a touch of raisin. Very dry on the palette, tasting of black current, cedar, plum, spice, and a bit of mint. My personal WOTN

  • decant for 10 mins and drank very well, soft, red cherries, light ruby color but had a good tannic touch. Would love to re taste in a few years time.

  • Dinner with Co-Workers (Mario's Mondo Cafe, Glenview IL): nose: aromatic and wafting tones of cedar, black currants, dark red cherries, earth, cassis and some bits of cranberries. Very good depth with a real touch of class to it

taste: lovely medium bodied feel with good tannins still showing along with tones of cedar, black currants, dark red cherries and some cassis and dark red fruits

overall: This is showing some of the harder tannins of the vintage. Well balanced with a real elegant style to it that is very enjoyable as well as good ruby color with some notable bricking

  • This wine showed a lot better than I was expecting. The fruit was still evident, and it had a sweet quality to it. Very well integrated and refined.

  • Brick color on the edges, but overall quite dark. Dusty nose upon opening, progressively opening up. A good backbone still, very smooth at the same time. Has lost a little bit of fruit since last tasted in 2005. Overall excellent, great 1975.

  • Aromas of black tea and clove, nutmeg cherry. On the palate a touch of soy charactor with smooth tannin and medium plus density still has another 3-7years of life. Very nice stuff holding up well. 92

  • Pichon Lalande Vertical ('75, '78, '82, '88): Popped and poured. Great color with just a hint of brown at the edges. Really musty nose nose (nice), saddle leather and shoe polish. Of the 4 wines this gave the least.

  • Very top shoulder, slightly raised cork. Not quite as good as an earlier BWL bottle. Still very good, old school elegance, nice evolution over evening. Classic top tier Left Bank claret.

  • The tannin has melted away and the wine showed the textbook, elegant stylings the Chateau is known for. This is one of the better Medoc from a difficult year. It's worth seeking out in auctions as it usually sells for a song.

  • Minimal if any bricking. Gorgeous nose that can only be aged Bordeaux with tobacco/cigar box mixed with dark fruit. Very complex. Drinking really well right now and I don't really see signs of this falling apart anytime soon. Nicely balanced with a nice finish.

  • 75 Pichon Lalande - after drinking the 70 twice in the last week, thought I would check in on this one. Didnt disappoint. Gravel and dried plums, cassis and brambles. Tons of fruit still left and really enjoyable. Classic mature bordeaux. Compared to the Cabs this was a lady...graceful and lithe vs the big brawlers.

  • Popped and poured. I was concerned that a decant with too much air would break it down too quickly. But this showed wonderfully and could cellar with little decline for another 10 years. Delicious terroir-driven, with cedar, graphite. Color was bright cherry. No decline (or improvement) over the 90 minute consumption. With Turtles under pergola--first of the season.

  • Knockout nose of pencil shavings, mint julep, red currants, gravel and iron. Fruit gains weight with air and never turns hard or tannic, reminds me of a Heredia Bosconia Gran Reserva with about 25-30 years on it. Just a mature, beautiful wine. No sign of decline.

  • Tasting Group Dinner - Bordeaux at Heidi's (Heidi's, Minneapolis): Dicey cork. Cloudy and murky. At first this smelled like brown sugar and vanilla extract, and then the paint thinner/VA took over. I couldn't bear to taste this. Undrinkable and vile; definitely not a representative bottle.

  • Thursday at Heidi's: A recent Winebid acquisition. The bottle looked pretty good, but the cork broke in three pieces while opening and the wine had a sludgy character from the moment it was poured and smelled pretty bad. I tried it a few times throughout the night and while it evolved it never developed into anything drinkable. Not corked. Probably some sort of secondary fermentation or possibly just heat damaged.

  • The cork was saturated, so I feared this one might be oxidized. No worries whatsoever after getting the first whiff of the aromas, which included dark fruits and tobacco. The tobacco was most prominent on the palate as the fruit was faded, but overall, the palate was well balanced with fully integrated tannins. The finish was short but seemed to get better over the course of the evening. The color of the wine had held up very well too - ruby red with an orangish-brown rim. I really enjoyed this. The wine smelled great all night and tasted classically Bordeaux. If I had any more '75s (and sadly I do not), I'd drink them soon as I really can't see this one improving.

  • 31 Vintages of Pichon Lalande 1928-2005; 12/16/2008-12/17/2008 (IOD, London): Plush, furniture polish nose, i.e. oxidised, but on the palate plenty of fat sweet fruit, some grippy tannins, overall not bad

  • NSMFOW-Wines to Celebrate a 48th Anniversary (The Grapevine, Salem, MA): Ruby color (amazing for age) with slight bricking at the rim. Some barnyard on the nose which blew off to reveal pencil lead, cassis, flowers. Similar palate with some minerality and nice acidity. Still with some tannins which were velvety at this point. Remarkably smooth, elegant, well-balanced and classic. Just superb. My WOTN.

  • Not as good as the previous 2 bottles... I bought from two different sources... Still OK to drink, but far from the experiences before... So rather disappointing and no real fun to drink... Not flawed, but just aged in a way that the fruit was pretty much gone and the palate was too oaky... But for a 30+ year old wine from a harsh vintage it is fine to be drinkable at all.

  • Extracted from my stash where it resided for 20+ years or so. Brought to annual 7 course byob lunch (20 varied and fine bottles-10 persons) and served with last flight of 3 wines. What a waste. What I recall, which isn't easy, was a very good, balanced, smooth and mature wine. Has shed its tannins, unlike some 75s. Some browning, but not much. Black currant and earth on the nose, and mostly cherry on the light palate. Very nice, but I will savor the last one I have with fewer people and less wine. Thank you to the person who woke me at my train stop. Happy holidays to all.

  • This showed much better than I expected. Very nicely balanced, classical bordeaux palate. Very elegant, with clear aged characteristics, but the fruit still showing young. Nicely integrated tannins. Have 1 bottle left that I will keep for some more years.

  • What a pleasant surprise! Better than the bottle before (bought from different sources, this one had a perfect fill). This was unlike any 1975 Bordeaux I drank before. Not harsh and tannic at all, but almost "Californian" for this vintage. No (negative) signs of age and it benefits from some air. Very hedonistic and an even a bigger treat when you know that it is your birthyear!

  • South Florida does Pichon-Lalande: This '75 was a pleasant surprise to me because I find almost all '75s to be too tannic even after all this time. There's a hint of tobacco and spice and a well-preserved core of dark plummy fruit in the '75 Pichon Lalande, though and the wine lingers rather well on the back of the palate. The tannins are a bit coarse by modern standards but not too obtrusive. Rather good and will last well and maybe even improve.

  • From a well stored magnum, the wine still has a few years but why wait. It is medium to full body and somewhat old-styled. Very dark red and not showing any amber. The wine is very balanced with enough fruit to matched the tannins. Very good for the vintage indeed.

  • I couldn't pull the cork fully, it disintegrated in the bottle. Had to decant and what a wine this was! Fully resolved tannins, but still plenty of life left in the wine. Pleasure to drink and look at. I'll try to pick up more from Chambers Street Wine while we visit NYC next week.

  • Tellling from the color, I thought this is a very aged wine. Amber, almost orange, I was scared that it's over the hill. Quite the contrary: not only that it had no signs of age, compared to the 75 Las Cases we had, it was almost "Californian". We "audouzed" it, but I'm sure that decanting would habe been no mistake at all. It developed during the three hours of our session beautifully. Amazing that it was so different to our expectations of a rather classic (old) styled Bordeaux. It wasn't too long, but the beautiful, classic Cabernet aromas made it very pleasant and enjoyable. I can't emphasize enough how different this is compared to the Las Cases – so having those in one tasting (the night before my wedding with some good friends), was a perfect experience.

  • Started off bad. It was funky as if the wine was corked. I was almost ready to open up another bottle and toss this one, but I got distracted. Came back tto the wine a half hour later and it was beautiful. The funk blew off. The wine was elegant, refined and smooth. Just a fine example of a nice aged Bordeaux. Wasn't as good as the 1961 Smith Haut Lafitte that I had recently, but certainly it came close to approaching it.

  • Beautiful evolved robe. Fresh and fruity nose despite the age. Very nice and smooth in the mouth. A good backbone still (it is a 1975!) but not too dry. Fantastic.

Magnifique robe ambrée, mature. Nez frais et encore fruité malgré l'âge. Du velours en bouche. Encore beaucoup de matière (c'est un 1975 après tout!), mais pas trop dur. Fantastique.

  • An intense deep ruby red color with slight amber on the edge. Unfiltered will great depth. On the nose, blackcurrant, elegant kirsch liquor and slight leather notes. In mouth, the wine is rich, well balanced, fruity with a very long finish. A graphit, cedar "terroir" note comes after a few minutes in the glass. It is a tannic yet very smooth. I suspect the wine to show particularly well because it has been rebottled in 1993...it's certainly a beauty.

  • From a beautiful and pristine bottle (perfect label, high neck fill) imported by K&L and probably stored at the Chateau for the last 27 years. Color was a deep reddish-brown, thinning to almost completely clear at the rim. Very fine suspended sediment noticeable under strong light. A clean and heady nose of tobacco, leather and earth with a medium to light body. The thirteen percent alcohol left long legs on the side of the glass. On the palate, it had fruit and a slightly sharp attack that moved to a delicious, toasty and warm mid palate with oak nuances. The perfectly and completely resolved tannins were barely noticeable on the smooth 45-second finish. The body seemed to fade a bit over the two hours I worked on the wine, but it was much better than I expected from a 1975 super second. The nose and complexity of the palate were first rate.

  • Hollywood Wine Seminar. With dinner the same night as the previous bottle. How can this be the same wine? Good color. Well balanced. Not too tannic or rustic. Drinks very well now. One of the best ‘75s.
