  • I agree with SMHalps note... this has fully matured and the fruit has taken a back seat to the structure... great acidity (which I love), and yet not softened to a point where it would be a liabilty, just -- at this age -- not a lot going on that is "friendly", still pretty nice as reflected in my 92 pt rating, but not like some of the other later 80's to mid-nineties Caymus wines I've tasted and loved

  • My final bottle of this vintage, and while a lot of the fruit is gone, or at least very muted, the spice and other secondary flavors made this very enjoyable. It needed at least 20 minutes to open up, but after that it went very well with a lunch of Pinot Noir braised brisket. How you rate it depends on how you feel about wines that are no longer fruit bombs.

  • 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (EBCC): Double blind, with notes of herbs, dark fruit and pepper. Black fruit and earthy/funky on the palate- seems like it might have some brettanomyces taint. (T&L)

  • Fragrant, refined red fruit, hints of chocolate, velvety spiciness, good supporting acidity, a well balanced classy wine, exceptionally long subtle aftertaste which leaves one want more, along with Penfolds Cab. Sav. BIN 707 1998 and Ornellaia 2004 my favourite tonight.

  • Rich and complex, slightly jammy red berries, cherry, balsamic and herbal notes, a touch of alcohol heat. Silky palate, polished (almost too much), but with a nice acidity. Sweet fruit and slightly hot, dark chocolate with a touch of chili. Very drinkable, almost cocktail-like easy drinking, but with extra complexity and good balance (considering the style). Good length.
