Garnet with bricking rims after more than an hour of bt breathing. Typical aged bdx nose, leather, tobacco, some peppery nose too after the fruit. More acidity driven in mouth, but sufficient complexity of fruit helped. Tannin resolved though slightly dusty. More oak spice at the finishing.
For me this wine has peaked and perhaps now slightly past peak. Lovely aged BDX none the less and happy to drink it. Most of table mates preferred it over the 95. Two great btls side by side. This one was all resolved tertiary flavors. I enjoyed both vintages but slight edge to the 95.
I apparently had a bottle of this last December that I liked, but at this point have no recollection. The cork on this particular bottle was faulty, and after failing to get it out in one piece, I was forced to immediately decant the wine.
Color is still translucent ruby, but a shade or two darker than the '86. Great nose - fruit, smoke, wood scents - quite complex on the nose.
Smoother and more well-integrated on the palate than the '86, but on opening I'm not sure it's any more interesting. A lot more weight/presence, though. We'll see about "final grades" later tonight.

(Calon Segur) The 1982 Calon Segur was also quite popular amongst the crowd due to its ready, willing and able nature. Its nose was open and brothy with yeast, game and nut aromas. The palate was tasty and gamy, a bit more jammy than the others with lots of cherry flavors. The minerals and slate came out, and the finish strengthened (93).
(Calon Segur) St. Estephe was next in line, beginning with an excellent 1982 Calon Segur (sourced from Chateau), which had a great nose. There was excellent t ‘n a, chocolate, cassis and blackberry in this singing wine. It also had edge, spice and perfectly singed beef aromas. I was loving this wine. In the mouth, there were peanut flavors and solid t ‘n a to this long and minerally wine, but the nose was so exciting that the palate seemed almost a touch disappointing. Cassis and olive flavors came out in this still excellent wine
