  • Bordeaux 2022 barrel samples and some additional vintages (Solliden in Stockhom): Early to assess but this is a concentrated wine with fine tannins.

  • Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: Looks very similar to the 2016. Medium weight, nice forest floor aromatics, good structure without rusticity. This will be a great Calon, but please do not open before 2037. 96-97

  • Bordeaux 2022 barrel tasting event (Papiersaal Sihlcity, Zürich): Main takeaways: 1/ Despite a considerable amount of hype, this came across as bi-polar vintage with for every insanely good wine at least one dead-on-arrival counterpart. 2/ High alcohol levels, over-extraction and cooked fruit appear to be common pitfalls. 3/ Top wines were 1. Figeac (98), 2. Brane Cantenac (97), 3. Les Carmes Haut Brion (96). Full list of 20 wines and scores in included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Red berry fruit, sweet in style with a decent amount of sugar coating, amplified by sweet spices and baking powder. Intense palate, mouthcoating tannin but felt in reasonable balance. Overall nothing much to complain about, major pitfalls were avoided, but struggled to find a particular allure.

  • Inky dark in color, the wine pops with crème de cassis, blackberries, smoke, lead pencil, 5 spice, and flowers in the aromatics. The wine explodes with endless waves of cassis, peppery blackberries, Asian spice, espresso, and dark chocolate on the palate. Everything is in place here. The wine coats your teeth, palate, and gums with fruit, and freshness that sings. The seamless finish is made even better with a refreshing hit of chocolate mint at the end. The wine builds, and expands in the finish as it crosses the 60 second mark. The wine blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 5% Cabernet franc and 1% Petit Verdot. 15% ABV, 3.8 pH. The harvest took place September 6 - September 27. The is the earliest harvest in the history of the property. Yields were 26 hectoliters per hectare. Only 53% of harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. The wine is aging in 100% new, French oak barrels for 20 months before bottling. Drink from 2028-2060. 97-99 Pts.

  • 98 vvPunkte / (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot, 15% Alkohol). Hervorragend. (Verkostet "En Primeur" im April 2023 auf Château Calon Ségur) #primeurs22 www.vvWine.ch
