Tasted double blind, this bottle unfortunately displayed pronounced signs of oxidation, particularly evident in the nose. On the palate, however, it retained an impressive density and a decent level of aromatic complexity and overall it was still drinkable. The friend who provided this wine noted that such premature oxidation issues are not uncommon with Jaboulet wines from this period. Seems like one of those wineries who just took it too far in terms of ripeness, extraction, and new oak.

Unfortunately, this bottle showed clear signs of oxidation, that got worse with time, not surprisingly. There were still some aromatics and structure underneath, so not totally undrinkable, but hard to look pass the oxidation. Some flowery notes, menthol, some herbal notes, spices, some meat, blood and cedar wood. Pretty full bodied, with medium+ tannin and medium acidity. Pretty long finish. Too bad this is oxidized.

Too oxidative to be rated. Worryingly I encountered quite a few oxidative bottles of this producer in various merchant events and my own bottles from vintages after 2005.

Matched with beef on the bone. Double decanted three hours in advance. Initially brooding, tannic and bitey, but it mellowed well over the evening. It is not as profound as the 78 or 90 but it is a beautiful expression of Hermitage and La Chapelle. Blue and red fruits, autumnal notes, leafy and forest floor, with licorice and menthol, cinder ash, tobacco and dabbed cigarette; an absolute pleasure.

Smokey, dark/red fruits, tertiary notes developing. Well balanced, well made wine.
