  • From half bottle. Tasted double blind. I really loved the superb minerality core here, that was the highlight. But there was still enough fresh fruit to create a beautiful balance. When revealed, I was surprised to see the 1994 vintage (and we were even discussing if this was Bordeaux at all). It might not be the most complex wine but a true success given the rather weak vintage. And in this half bottle it aged certainly a bit faster and adding one or the other additionally aroma layer which made it a great experience. 95pts in my book.

TN: Intense chalky minerality and dark fruits on the nose. On the palate a beautiful fresh and pure dark fruit core but a more dominating slate and chalk minerality core, some tobacco and malty notes, and hints of intriguing floral aromas. The wine is very well-rounded and harmonious, quite long and without much hard edges.

  • A negociant bottling lunch: Surpisingly strong showing for the challenging year. Quite fresh, nice fruit with some cassis and redcurrant a hint of red bell pepper. Good tannin structure. Still quite a bit of life ahead.

  • 95% Merlot 5% Cabernet Franc

Dark core, slightly widen rim, looks its age but not tired

Bouquet is mute at first but open up to smoky dried flower, dried mushroom, licorice

Palate is still tannic but lean. Medium body and dry. Red cherries, wild strawberry, dusty soil, some cooking spices. Finish is fresh but quite short.

A bummer of a Petrus experience. If this is an indication of how the 1994 would go. Drink up. It's on its way out. Now - 2023. 90

Beautiful nose. Blue/black fruit and wet stone. There’s a touch of ground espresso, and dried earth.
Texturally magnificent. Everything is in line here with full body, medium acidity, and dusty tannins.
It’s certainly a great effort given the year. Drink now and over the next 5-10 years.

  • SLDS - PR GC: Graphite, charcoal, smoke, meat, game and briar characters. Smoky and meaty on the palate as well, along with some sweet fruit showing through. In a delicious spot development wise, really impressive for such a vintage.

(Petrus) Unbelievable nose of earth, black plum, cinnamon, camphor flowers. So much going on. So many layers to the nose. Really one of the greatest noses I have ever smelt on wine. The palate lived up to the nose. Powerful yet allied with uncanny elegance. Rich fruit along with great acidity and an endless perfectly delineated finish. There really is nothing else like it. So compelling and unique. This has the structure to last for 40-50 more years. The best '94 I have had to date.
