Unclear and somewhat murky looks. Typical Echezeaux? Echezeaux 98 is my first DRC. It is the second time I drink this vintage. Spices and tobacco. In the background something unknown. Tomato juice. Very powerful and distinctive nose. Ritch of tannins, spice, pepper, fruit and sweetness. This is a great wine, but... Powerful and concentrated. I would have loved to know what I had said if it were blindly tested as last time, and would have liked to have writen notes the first time, but didnt. Drunk parallel with Rousseau Chambertin 04, and this was minor compared to it. This was experienced also on previous tasting when we parallel drank the Chambertin 01 and 98 Echezeaux. I honestly think I wont aim for another Echezeaux after this, but who knows, 98 isnt known to be the best vintage is it...
Big expencive wine that underscores. I truly belive that there are greater wines out there with a more apeeling price and taste.
Dark red and concentrated colour. Dark bricking at the edges. Nose is very distinct. Strong hints of tomato juice and fresh herbs. Palate is velvet and cool with seamless tannins integrated into the wine. Nice concentration and power. This is my first DRC, and it is an interesting and enjoyable animal to get to know. But tonight this was a minor compared to Rousseau's Chambertin '01.
Good colour. At first tight and austere, thed red berry/cherry fruit coming through. Very 'droit' or linear, with lovely taut minerality and long finish. Following the DRC 'regle de 15 ans' (ie dont drink until 15) this was still very much on the young side but I'd guess just on its peak drinking plateau now. Very pure and classy Echezeaux.
This was just singing, a beautiful nose, raspberry, some christmas spice, but also something faintly animalistic, yet delicate. Beautiful clarity and precision on the palate, long finish not overpowering in its strength but it certainly had great control. Much more comfortable than the 2002, excellent.
