A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Richebourg, Chablis, CDC and etc. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Perfectly mature nose displaying sweet black fruit, essence of blackberry, a hint of strawberry candy, strong DRC stem, caramel, Chinese medicine, tea, cedar, cinnamon, fully developed sous bois and earth. Perfectly integrate palate, layers upon layers of subtle sweet black fruit, silky and fluid, medium acidity, earthy mineral and a long sweet black fruit driven finish with tea and Chinese medicinal herbs at the end. What I love about DRC, which I typically do not get in other Burgundy, is the haunting smell when there is only a drop left in the glass. It clearly expresses all the components, sous bois, Vosne spices, cinnamon and etc. Absolutely gorgeous showing, all the telltale signs of the domaine.

2006 RC and 2006 DRC Montrachet dinner - Stanley Cup Final (Proof Restaurant - Washington DC): Beautiful nose displaying sweet black fruit, blackberry jam, sous bois, Vosne spices and tree bark. Medium concentration, silky and polished, medium acidity and earthy mineral and a medium long black fruit driven finish. It is slightly hollow in the middle. Nevertheless, drinking beautifully. Truly a pleasant surprise and a great way to end the evening.

DRC Holiday Party; 12/17/2015-12/18/2015 (Mintwood): This bottle of much maligned '94 really wasn't bad at all next to the rest of the lineup. I'm sure it was one of the best Eches made that year, and this bottle came off as totally mature, ready to go, especially when compared to the somewhat closed down '93 next to it. Wet earth, subtle spice, not very complicated but certainly not disappointing at all given the year.

Hans Kruger Classic (Suite 100): I think I've had this 4 or so times prior and none being all that amazing. This one however is very impressive. The nose is the least favorite, limited to earthy minerality and spice. The palate is very powerful with gripping, dusty tannins right off the bat. Crisp, cleansing acidity follows, then a ripe burst of cherry and red currants. Hmm, interesting. Opens up to some nice spiciness and more ripe berry fruit. The earthiness on nose eventually integrates with the berries. While not as complete as a few others tried tonight, this one might turn into an extremely nice bottle. Hopefully I'll try again in a few years.

gone in a flash - cloudy appearance with an acidic undertone of cranberries, raspberries, orange peel
