As we get closer to the dates I should be able to confirm.  I like the restaurant idea, as Madison has many great places to eat.

The thought of going home again after 27 years here in sunny Fl is a little scary but if I can and someone can assure me that my ex-wife won't be there I might, might just show up!!

The thought is rather intruiging!

Nice response so far, thanks guys. For those who have indicated a potential interest, would you mind noting if you would be attending solo or +1? I'm going to start a head count of "possibles" in my initial post above. Also, if you have a preference between the two possible dates given in my original post, please let me know.

The two things that will need to be worked out soonest will be an approximate head count and a specific date. If we are clearly going to be over 14 people, which would be outstanding, we'll shift dinner from our home to a second restaurant or catered location, and I'll need to get that reserved fairly early.

Thanks!

khmark and peeks13, it's really nice to see Chicago represent. khmark7 you're right about all the good restaurants, although our statewide BYOB ban has most of them squeamish about hosting an event like this. Several nice options are emerging though. More to follow on that.

mn_horn, it would be tremendous to form a Minnesota connection here, thanks for stepping up.

floydtp, wineismylife, Oskiwawa, I'll have to dig deep into the cellar to put this event in the same league as last year's Texas offlines.

drycab, you would be very welcome, and you know June is a beautiful time of year to be in Madison. (Plus it's gotten to be a pretty big town since you left, so you should be safe from the ex.)

I've gotten a couple private replies as well, so we are definitly forming a nice group already...

Tom:

Count me in +1. Can't wait to visit Wisconsin!

Both dates work for me, but my first choice is "June 24-25" since this gives me an extra week to recuperate from the Bordeaux trip...

Have any of you guys ever heard of the Texas-Wisconsin Border Cafe?

I just learned that it closed (eleven years ago), but it was definitely a fun spot in Richmond VA when I lived there circa 1990.

It's a long drive from Milton but I'd certainly be interested in joining your group. My wife's leaving for Spain on the 19th so if it's the 17th - 18th I'd be a +1. If it's the 24th - 25th, since I'll be watching my daughter solo for a couple weeks, I may be able to join you for at least one evening.

petitblanc,

I would be interested in joining your offline in June. At the moment I am not to sure which date would work best, but I will keep you in the loop as I plan out my calendar.

Any thoughts on a wine theme or what you want us to bring yet? Just want to plan ahead.

Not sure yet petitblanc, but it would probably be only me. I will try to firm up in the next couple of weeks.

Excellent Steve.

I haven't really given thought to a theme yet, but I agree it's never too early to start thinking about it -- right Jose?

I think with three sessions we'll be able to cover just about anything people wish to bring. The two dinners will be planned to suit a variety of wines, and the Saturday afternoon gathering might be a good time for a themed tasting, be it vertical, horizontal, varietal, or whatever.

I sold off a large chunk of my younger wines last year, so in my case I'll probably contribute some aged stuff. This may include older Rhones, maybe a few 1980's vintages of Cos d'Estournel, possibly a 1990's mini-vertical of Quilceda Creek, and definitely a couple old vintage Ports.

Generally, wine-wise, we'll go anywhere and everywhere the group wishes to go...

GG, keep in touch, I really hope to see you here. I've got a 1945 Sandeman with your name on it. And all dining venues will be selected with cigar patios in mind

Keep checking in on us and hopefully it will work out for you. We won't need an official final head count for quite a while yet, but for planning purposes I appreciate people chiming in to at least say they're interested at this point. I'll add you to the "possibles" list for now...

Petitblanc - I am a new poster here but have been following the forum for 6 - 8 months. We live in the far north Chicago suburbs and hit Madison every year, usually for the Saturday AM market. The Best !!! We, too, would be interested in a group wine weekend. Can help with donations: Cos, Port, and cigars. I'll look for more details soon. Cheers, Ed

I agree: it's never too early to declare/commit wines.

As a matter of fact, I'm about to declare some of the wines that I'm bringing to your offline in my next post.

Crap - I've been waiting for a Midwest offline...but 6/18 is summer camp drop-off weekend for my 12 year old son, and 6/25 is summer camp drop-off for my 11 year old son. Both weekends will be dominated with respective 8 hour and 14 hour round-trips to northern Michigan. If only you lived on the east side of the big lake!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Right now, both weekends are good for us. We will be two. Last fall we did drinks at Harvest, and dinner at Etoile. Both were excellent. A month ago we did the '85 + '86 Cos together. They are drinking wonderfully now although the '86 is still pretty tannic. I believe that we have more.
