From magnum. Holding on to a youthful deep garnet colour. Pronounced aromatics of sous-bois, Ceylon tea, leather, olive and some savoury 5-spice notes in the background. This showed none of the pruney notes of previous bottles consumed over the past few years which came across as much more evolved. Full to medium-bodied with flavours of dried dark fruit and some cherry notes. Most of the action was on the front to mid palate. Decent length with a bit of grip persisting on the finish. Delicious now but I can't see further upside.

Tobacco, truffle, potting soil, fresh and dried red cherry, black tea, and dried orange zest. M+ acid. M+ tannin has softened over the 14 years, bust still provides structure. Plenty of vitality remaining. M+ complexity. M+ aromatic intensity. Garnet color, edging toward tawny. Fantastic!

This still comes across as young. There also was some oak initially, which seemed odd to me. Darker fruit tones, and still pretty stout structure. With air the oak note disappears, leaving a somewhat rich wine, but there is no sweetness, or over ripeness. This is pretty good, and it should drink well for a long time I think.

Still fantastic with Bolognese. Long decant, tannin has eased but still a mouth-coating swallow with very long finish. Aromas have moved to leather and earth.

Red fruit, tobacco, old shoe leather and delicate spices come together in this classic styled brunello. Good depth and texture. The acidity is in balance and keep this red lively at age 24. Good juice.

Drinking beautifully now. Ideally should have about 30 minutes in the glass before it really starts to shine. Very firm structure. Still with lots of tannins and lots of deep red fruit, good acidity and a bit of mineral. Should last for a few more years so there’s no hurry. The 2010 Brunellos are coming along nicely now

Well, it has taken 13 years fir the tannins to soften and the fruit to show through, but a very nice, but not off-the-charts wine. Needed a 2 hour decant. Not sure it has a lot of "come hither".

Cellared since release. Coravined Nov 10, 11, 12, 2023 Deep ruby color with slight lightening at the rim. Nose of red fruit, tobacco, and a touch of earth. Medium to almost full body with red fruits predominating, displaying excellent depth and purity along with a hint of charcoal. There were supportive tannins producing an excellent mouth feel with mid-palate stimulation, culminating in a 20+ second finish. This extremely enjoyable 2010 Brunello features excellent structure, complexity, and a definite grip. A really good wine, that should have at least 5 to 10 years of enjoyable life ahead.

Tuscany WIMPS #169 29th September 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Nose has a distinct mint chocolate character on pouring in addition to some ripe forest fruits, a little white pepper, some rare venison, some Grape Nuts and a little thyme. Palate long and cool with more of the red fruits. Lovely drop.

Wow... I don't have much experience with this producer, but this was really outstanding. Still a lot of tannic grip but I love the texture this wine has at this stage. A lot of saline and minerality to envelope the dark fruits. I haven't tasted any 2016 yet, but I'm convinced that 2010 is the best vintage for Brunello of the last 20 years. 94 points now, but I can imagine this will improve over the next decade or more.

Drinking well now. Color is violet; good legs in the glass. Muted nose, but shows cherry and floral notes on the palate. Tannins are subdued, but good acidity and Medium-long finish. Served with grilled T-bone steak.

Last of a group. Very nice wine that has aged well. Starting to show some oxidative notes. Great complexity, smooth, rich dark cherry with a long finish.

Mature colour. A bit of stewed fruit on the nose with some forest floor, Mediterranean spice and tobacco thrown in. Silky smooth and round on the palate with mostly tertiary flavours. Well-made and enjoyable although this bottle appears to be starting on its down-slope.

In a very nice place now. Still some staying power. Took about 30 minutes then the balance of tannins and fruit really showed well. Medium plus body. Nose of tobacco, dark fruit, with a hint of forest. Darker red fruit with a bit of licorice. Nice finish. Goes well with or without food.

It definitely takes a soft palate and some Italian wine intellect to appreciate this wine for what it is. Its soft, supple, very balanced from age, and true in character without being exaggerated or overdone. Its a rather feminine version of Brunello, with notes of balsamic and roasted herbs, swimming in soft ripe spiced cherries. The wood treatment is spot on as it goes un-noticable but is very much present in the sum of the whole. An elegant re-emerging warm finish teases you to take another sip. This can be drank alone next to a fire and be loved. DRINK

Dark cherries, sandalwood, dried flowers. Velvety texture, really well balanced, moderate acidity. Very tasty bottle and hit the mark well with beef bracciole in tomato sauce and porcini risotto. Decanted about two hours before drinking.

Very fortunate to have a bottle in superb condition (including the cork with no leak no damage whatsoever). 12 years of bottle age, and no decanting required (I was going to until I had a small taste after popping the cork). Incredible elegance, with enough structure, body, and acidity to last a whole meal, although the wine became even smoother over time. Notes of dark ripe sweet cherries, bit of leather, velvety tannins, a faint hint of strawberry. Corkaged this to a Michelin Bib Gourmand casual upscale multi regional Italian restaurant , where this wine paired brilliantly with squid ink salami with garlic, white wine, and other spices, a Piedmontese themed risotto with shaved white Alba truffles and a braised squab, and also with a plate of roasted veal tenderloin. No need to wait for this wine, it’s already very enjoyable with food or even by itself.

Has grown out of adolescence into young adulthood. Dark cherry, cedar, leather, resolute backbone of acid - built for aging no doubt. A bit rounder and softer than last bottle. More approachable but in no rush - drink or hold.

Last tasted April 2021. Decanted c4 plus hours before drinking. Much improved since last tasting. Very enjoyable, plenty of fruit, good long finish. The slight dryness experienced last time is no longer evident (or very much diminished ). This wine seems in a good place. Very enjoyable Brunello. Will be interesting to see if it has peaked or will continue to improve

Hooligans: Remains a bit reticent, but with time and a bit of swirling reveals attractive sour plums and cherries on the nose and opens out nice on the palate. Good weight of fruit and a long finish suggests this has quite a lot in reserve, yet to be unleashed.

Crimson. Alluring nose showing sour cherries, rose petal and old leather in the background. Medium bodied, sour cherry extract with lick of vanilla from the oak. Slightly grainy and drying tannins. There`s plenty of underlying structure for the long haul yet not convinced that the fruit won't have faded by then. Possibly my fourth encounter and went well with tomahawks. 14.5% ABV and feels like it! Decanted at 11am and followed over next 12 hours. From Zalto Universal.

Started off with a lovely aroma and nice finish, but a bit thin in the middle. It filled out over a few hours and was a pleasure to drink. Nice tannins, fruit was probably fading. Not sure this one will be improving from here.

Decanted and drank over 2hours w bolognese. With the discount, and some time in the class, what a delicious brunello. Purple with some black fruits, some oak notes that warm the palate, I would say generally lower acid and medium body, very easy to drink. Nicely done.

Deep, dark garnet in color with no signs of aging. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of cedar & dusty/earthy, some floral notes of violets, smoky, spices, herbs, minerals, anise & a hint of oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and plums with spices, herbs, earthy, minerals & a hint of oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but even at 12 years of age, it still has the potential to develop further with additional aging.

Uncorked at 10am, poured into decanter at 6pm, sat for dinner at 8pm. Darker fruit, tasted a bit corked to me but that seemed to dissipate over the course of the evening. A more rustic style with plenty of backbone remaining. Might benefit from additional aging.

Decanted, aerated, sat for 30 minutes and was the beautiful full bodied Brunello di Montalcino you were expecting. It's been perfectly temperature controlled since release, which makes it easy to blossom. Dense dark fruit and licorice predominate followed closely by the tobacco and other Brunello classic flavors. Goes on for a couple minutes. Robust and sexy!!

Really enjoyed this--bold and long and well balanced with fruit and herbal and mineral notes all together in Tuscan harmony. Was pretty nice on the open but agree with several hour decant as it improved through day 2 by opening up slightly throughout.

Hmm, this is nice, but I tend to agree with Jancis, seems a bit drying...nose is slightly muted too, but I don't think it's flawed, just perhaps a bit overdone, overextracted, as per the style of the day - probably had a ton of fruit in its youth, perhaps slightly overripe, but time hasn't been kind. Drink up.
This was decanted for 4 hours and followed it over 2 nights. Day one: This is a big, juicy, voluptuous wine, more Right bank Bordeaux (French oak) than Tuscany to my palate, but very hedonistic. High octane wine. Day two: Ah, now I can tell this is Sangiovese. So much iron, cherry, blood and pipe tobacco notes with refreshing acidity and a bit of bitterness on the finish. Tannins still a little drying though on the palate. This now seems much more of its place, if still a bit high octane (alcohol a bit noticeable). This is a very well-rounded and satisfying Brunello now, but I think 5-10 more years in the cellar will bring out those much desired secondary notes. If you are having it now, try to decant for a bit and also save some for the next day. In the world of fine wines, this is a good value. I might need to pick up some of the more recent vintages ... Rating: 92+ (I think it will go up a point or two in time)

One of the better Italian wines I have stashed in my cellar. Had some very interesting fruit flavors in the mid palate. Not at all disappointing, as my experience with so many Italian reds is they take 10 years to be drinkable and even then, most of the fruit is gone. This wine is better than most.
Popped, poured, consumed over next hour. Singing right from the pop. Well balanced with refreshing acidity, classic Brunello flavors, good complexity, satisfying finish.

My final bottle, sad to see it go. Purple brown hue, mild nose. First Brunello burst is dry, subtle with the dark fruits nicely coming out - dark cherries, currants, light peppers. Finish is deep, earthy with grit and leaving me with my smile. Medium linger. Again, a superb wine from a great year

Root Day - decanted off of virtually no sediment. Translucent garnet core out to a medium ruby rim - no orange and little sign of development. Nose of dried red roses, dried red fruit, fennel, fresh bay leaf, savoury herbs and fresh red fruit. No real development showing yet. On the palate there’s light ripe tannins and good acidity with flavours of red fruit, savoury herbs, anise and a bit of spice. Medium length finish - if blind, I’d probably suggest this is a very high end Chianti Classico and suggest it’s a 2016. Suffice to say - this wine is just starting to evolve and I won’t touch another bottle for 5 years or so. Lots of potential though.

This was on the elegant side of brunello. Typical dried cherry notes, dried flowers, wood notes. The flavors were big but the texture was light and very smooth. I saw almost no orange in this -- it looks quite young still, but tannins are gone. Very nice 12 years after vintage.

There may have been something 'off' with this bottle, as when I opened it, the end of the cork had an odd, grey color and felt slimy. We decanted it for about 2 hours. The aroma seemed ok, but the flavor, if you could call it such, was acerbic at best. Not totally undrinkable, but little to recommend it. I waited several days, trying it again each day. No real change. I have one more bottle. Hopefully, that will be the experience I paid for.
Purchased a couple of these seven years ago on pre-arrival. A positive result of buying too much wine from across the spectrum is that it's easier to bury these and not get tempted to open too early. Drinking very well now (*), beautiful. Perfectly ripe Sangiovese fruit with some dusty earth. Tannins are integrated now. No signs of bricking yet.
Opened / slo-oxed for a few hours before serving. Probably should have done a several hour true decant, but it was never really tight.
I was going to reach for Pinot to pair with the simply-grilled lamb sirloin, but pulled this instead. Glad I did, it worked well, and some dried oregano salt at the table enhanced the meat and the marriage with this wine.
Really happy this bottle escaped hygiene issues described in several TNs. I hope the other bottle is just as clean.

Solid sub-$50 BdM buy.
* Stored in good, but not technically ideal cellar conditions - dark, with seasonal temperature fluctuations from low-mid-50s to mid-upper-60s, so aging a bit faster than bottles stored at an ideal 55 F.
Deep ruby, oranging to rim; a bit duller than the Marroneto drunk alongside. Graphite on the nose, with an attractive array of berry and cherry fruit; great precision; some Juicyfruits secondary development. Mouthfilling but with everything in proportion and balance; tannins nicely evolved and in check. Very enjoyable, but without the energy of the Marroneto.

Most info indicated wine needed 7-10 years prior to beginning consumption, and I do believe that is accurate for BdM and good chianti. Wine open for at least three days and fruit had only partially receded on last day. Was good pretty much from the first glass on day one, and no decant used. The fruit is the star and was amazing, fresh, and succulent. Tannins nicely integrated and only a bit of drying in the mouth. My guess is this has matured wonderfully and perhaps will continue to do so, but only if the fruit hangs together. The cork, although on the thin side for my preference, was built like a tank and firm, and I feel it will preserve the wine as it matures. Recommended, should age a bit more, but really at a nice spot now. Have one more and would hate to wait to too long and lose the fruit, so maybe 5 years tops for me. This wine was why I bought 2010 BdM and hoped to experience.

Still very much in its black-fruit phase with glimmers of lightness- like a grumpy teen who exhibits occasional flash of niceness from behind his locked bedroom door. Notes of raspberry and tickly raspy tannins. A bit chewy right now at the back end - needs more time to really unwind but has the spine to support further ageing.

Aromatic rich cherry and raspberry, biscuity oak, a touch of clothes, and fennel. Baking spices, menthol, chocolate. Leaf litter.
Long and chewy palate. Good acid and plentiful grainy tannins persist through the finish. Medium bodied, but full of impact. Aromatically more expressive on day three but finishes dryer as well.
Opinion: Enjoyable Brunello, though not setting the world on fire. Each way bet on whether this will improve from here. Check again in 4–5 years.

After several hours of air (the longer the bottle was open the better it got) I found exuberant aromas of purple flowers, red fruits, a smoky allspice note, and clove. Intense cherry on the palate on entry, then it gradually morphs into savory iron or even rust. Very deep and almost brooding. Grippy tannins and brisk acids suggest a long life ahead.

Lots of sediment upon decanting. Deep and brooding blood red with medium plus optical density and fine specular reflectivity. Very slight tinge of bricking, but not much. Aromas have good intensity, with earthy crushed leaves and floral notes above a tart dark fruit profile (light black cherry and maybe some plum), along with plenty of tertiary notes. Dried leather, gravel, and some balsamic notes are hinted at, with even some dried candied fruits (but pretty light) showing through. Decent complexity with some depth for sure.
On the palate, medium plus in body with medium acidity and integrated tannins. Rounded but with a touch of coarser texture throughout that provides a little tension. Overall, nice density and concentration while still remaining elegant. Flavours of dried dirt and earthy crushed leaves with some faint truffle notes hit on the attack. After the entry, some light raspberry and cherry fruit are noted, but combined with dried leather and forest meadow and dried stick notes. The final transition sees more of the earthiness, but a flash of dried mixed fruit hits right before the long finish of crushed tobacco leaf and lingering dry earth. Overall intensity is medium plus, and certainly complexity and depth are to be found.
This is really nice, at a great point, with plenty of vinous character and yet still a touch of primary fruit remains (just so though). The depth here is plenty, but falls short of profound, and doesn't evolve that much (a bit of weaving is here, if in plain colours rather than a vibrant multi-coloured patchwork weave). Overall, I really enjoy this at the moment. Elegant and delicious and thoughtful, and even with all that still pretty fun. Not a demanding wine that takes tons of work to understand, but should be taken seriously. For me, this is pretty much prime, while it can be held longer I think, I'm not sure I see the point, as I don't see this evolving into a complexity monster, but who knows, right?

Decanted about 90 minutes. Beautiful nose, but there was a bit of a pruniness on the palate I didn't care for, and that wasn't there upon initial opening. Everybody else really enjoyed it, and I will say that with food (chicken saltimbocca) it wasn't noticeable. Will be interesting to see how my last two bottles hold up. Should definitely go for a shorter decant next time.

Bottle 3/6. Same issue again. I begin to suspect my whole case is affected here. Will try to return my remaining bottles. Argiano has had a real hygiene issue here with their 2010. For such a producer, this is inexcusable

2/12. It's getting on for a year since our last bottle so we thought we would check in on this. Decanted an hour before drinking with burgers and sausages cooked on the BBQ. Colour is still nice and deep with no signs of age in terms of appearance. Quite fresh on the nose with dark fruits and spice. On the palate the fruits come through but there is also that austerity and tartness I associate with Sangiovese and which mellows with time in the glass. Medium-long finish. Great balance with lots of time ahead of it, a lovely wine that is excellent value for money.

Pop and pour. Pretty brunello nose, with perfumed red fruits, citrus, and flowers, but the initial palate didn't impress--tannic, with tart, almost sour, cherry and slight musty notes. After 3-4 hours of air the wine smoothed out, with velvety texture and tart red cherry, sweet dark cherry, violets, and a hint of sandalwood. This wine will benefit from several more years in the cellar 92+.

This is one of the wines I seem to be out of sync with a lot of other tasters here. Followed for quite some time and never got really enthusiastic about it. Compared to its peers, it seems more restrained and monolithic, with less of the out-coming combination of cherry, tart , forest notes and herbal notes that usually come with Brunello. It is now finely structured though and has some good balance, but just not talkative enough, even after some 5h of decant.

Well aged brunello that needed ~2 hr decant to fully open. Black fruit on the nose with plums, blackberry and slight woodiness but ina pleasant way. Very opulent with well resolve tannins this is right in its drinking window. Long finish with a touch of cassis. I did not find it as intense or as layered as some of the critics who all scores higher than my 92. A very nice Brunello nonetheless.
I have now tasted ~20 different 2010 Brunellos and this is probably around the top 5 behind Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova, Valdicava and La Serena

Aged to perfection — or shall I say, the first phase of perfection. I’m sure my other bottles have lots of razzle-dazzle in their future. This one had all the great Brunello notes — dark fruit, leather, tobacco and herbs — but where it most delivered was with a silky, voluptuous mouthfeel.

See prior note: Sandalwood, crushed walnut shells, dried cherry, whoffs of sweet meat and with all those Base notes this still has lift and is lively. Velvety mouth feel with good concentration, balancing acidity and length. Dusty Dried Brown cherry and hints of iodine with spicy salty mineral tang on the finish, still quite tannic. waiting another 5+ years for these to melt away, not sure how much fruit will be left. Couple of nice tartaric crystal nuggets at the bottom. Enjoyed 60-70 it paired well with braised beef short ribs. Purchased upon release and stored accordingly… Na zdrowie

Strawberry and camphor on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, currant, and notes of plum and savory spice, with moderately strong smooth tannins and strong acidity on the medium to long finish. This is early in its drinking window, and it may improve. It was a good value at about $50.

Networking with Brunello (67 Pall Mall): Definitely some resemblance to the Poggione 2010 we drank alongside this, but the Argiano was a tad lighter on its feet. Flavours again on the darker side of the Sangiovese spectrum, but a greater sense of lift on the nose. I couldn't say which one I preferred...

Decanted 2hrs prior, nose was classic Brunello with plum, dried cherry some dried herb/dried leaves. Palate had tart cherry and plum, felt a bit simple mid palate, good acid and medium tannin, medium body. Drinking better than bottle opened in 2016 but I think this has yet to hit prime time. Let a large glass sit in decanter overnight and really opened up the next morning. I think this needs another 5 years to start showing more mature sangio notes, if drinking in the short term would give it a good decant. 91-92+
Over 2 days this evolved from middle weight, to light and nimble on its feet. Decant if drinking immediately, otherwise take your time and linger... an elegant wine.

Served as part of a blind tasting, wherein I knew what I brought, but did not know what either of the other two bottles were. I decanted this about two hours and it received some additional time open back in the bottle. All wines were served blind. I immediately recognized this as my wine based on the earth, mushroom, tart red fruit and balsamic notes. In a better spot than the last bottle a few years back. Still has plenty of time ahead of it.
somewhat evolved for a 2010, notes of earth, quite average imho, not impressed on the nose, palate is a bit more yummy, even though lacks the acidity to stand time, happy I have only one bottle left in the cellar

To my surprise this is less accessible than 14 months ago as the wine has closed down a bit. Pnp. Similar to my experience last year, this starts as a nice but not particularly aromatic Brunello with some dark fruit and a bit of herbs. Oak is nicely integrated and less apparent than say the 2010 Poggione. As the tannins started to get more pronounced with about 20 min of air, poured into decanter and continued to follow for about 2h. Not only are the tannins rather noticeable but the wine also closes down a bit. Would give it another 3 years in bottle from here.

1/12. Decanted an hour before roast chicken dinner, there was a small amount of sediment in the bottle. Nice deep colour with no signs of age in terms of appearance. Fresh on the nose with dark fruits and spice. On the palate this was quite austere to start with lots of acidity but opened out in time to show more of those dark fruits as well as red fruits and some spice. Complexity on the palate developed as the wine aerated in the glass. The alcohol is quite high at 14.5% but this didn't particularly show on the palate. Tannins were relatively mellow. Medium-long finish. This is a well balanced wine that is ready to go but leaves you in no doubt that it is only going to improve with age and, IMO, be really something special in time.

Oh boy, are the 2010 Brunellos drinking great! Intense plums, dark fruit, a perfect balance from a piquancy and modest acidity that will make it sing with spaghetti and lasagna bolognese. Should drink great for at least another 5 years and drink OK for another 10.

Shy upon opening, this baby was shining bright after 1-1.5 hour of decanting. Delightful brunello fruit, lots of energy and good acidity, with layers of dark cherry, dark chocolate, and tobacco/leather flavors. Highly likely to evolve further.

1/6. Dark red / black. Dense dark fruits, a little high tone / orange rind, quite a lot of wood. Meaty and dense, long and licoricy. Quite a dense and powerful wine, showing a fair amount of wood, seems built to age. This loosened and opened up some more on the 2nd night but not by loads. Certainly no hurry!

PnP. A funky and unpleasant nose immediately after pouring that dissipated and ultimately disappeared over a 10-15 minute span. The nose, however, remained restrained and never reached a fully aromatic state. Nice mouthfeel and good complexity, notes of leather and asian spices, with maybe a hint of iron. Good but not overly long finish. Tannins present but well integrated. This wine is ready to drink but should also have several good years ahead of it.

Drinking nicely right now and will continue to evolve. Tart cherry, raspberry and a hint of chocolate with subtle oak. Much better than the last bottle I opened in 17 and will hold off a little longer before I open the next one.

PnP. This has soften a lot since my last bottle in 2017 and it’s now in a nice place. To be honest, I do miss a bit of tension and so I’m thinking I should have re-tasted this 6-12 months earlier, but it’s nevertheless a very pleasurable drop (whilst, a bit too simple). I lack experience with BdM to say if it will improve with further aging, but my instinct says it won’t (though, I sure do hope to be proven wrong).
Great. Strong aromas of roasted clay, aged balsamic, and damp earth. Good weight on the palate; tannins still a bit heavy. Tastes like it is still on the upswing.

A wonderful BdM - very concentrated with notes of ripe fruit, cassis, cherry, licorice, spice box with very long finish. Tannins are still prominent but well integrated. Long way to go.

Tannic and acidic, remaining quite (too?) intense even after hours of being open. Strong cherry and whatnot, but not as interesting and complex as other 2010 Brunellos that I've tried.

Double decanted then drank over the next hour with slow cooked ragu and pappardelle Deep garnet with dark amber rim. Lovely nose of dried cherries and spice. Typical Sangiovese flavours, nice acidity and smooth tannins, long finish, drinking well now but will probably mellow a little more with time.

Nice wine. Dark fruits, olive, cloves. Decent length, with a lingering finish. The acidity is the backbone to the wine. The tannins are more in the background, though by no means silent. Will improve for another couple of years at least, then probably plateau for a while.

Plum, roasted garlic, black cherry, hope chest, black walnut shell, pine and Indian spice. Purity is the first word that comes to mind in regards to the palate, and the supple, fine tannins are delightful. Long and focused, with a medium body and a feminine presence. Drinking very well and has a long life ahead. I love the quenching, and seductive qualities this possesses. Drink now - 2032
I drink almost no Brunello but had a bottle of 2001 Piancornello Brunello di Montalcino in 2014 that made me think I should cellar some of these wines. I started buying with 2010 vintage and this is the first bottle I have opened from those purchases. Had with spaghetti and meat balls (prepared by the great Mike Betts!). So good! Deep garnet. Earthy nose with baked red fruit, prune juice, tobacco leaf, smokey meat and cedar. Very good acidity with some mouth drying tannins. Overall impression is still quite youthful - I expect that this has a long life ahead of it - but it is certainly accessible and delicious now.

This is entering maturity, now in its “I know what I’m doing” phase. Good depth, prominent acidity with a degree of calm, fruit and earth integrated. Bright red cherry on the initial attack, deepening to black fruit, leather and black tea on th mid-palate and finish. Just what it should be. The only thing I would have expected was a more vivid acidity but I think it’s just moved past that phase.

Aaaaahhhhh - this is just starting to open up. The bitterness I remember from the last time I tasted it is disappearing and aromas of deep dark fruit is starting to emerge in the glass. It still needs time to breathe but after aerating it, it shows a smooth elegance. Cherries, plums and some leather that transition to a tannic chalk finish - but not too grippy. Enjoyable and very nice.

Pnp. Medium garnet. Immediately upon pulling the cork this comes across as a smooth but not particularly expressive and slightly bitter Sangiovese. After about 30 min this opens up aromatically big time with hoisin sauce, dried dark fruit and herbal notes. Very savoury and aromatic. Slightly sandy and drying tannins also join the party as the wine opens up but very pleasant to drink now even without food. Long finish. Best Argiano I have had and clearly above their 2004 and 2006. Drink with a short decant or hold. 93-94.

Slow oxed for 7 hrs. In the glass very dark almost impenetrable. On the nose some bitter orange and cranberry. The mouth mimics the nose. Very bitter orange, cranberry and some burnt wood. Still a bit tannic maybe a bit out of balance? I will check back in later when my roast duck is done. Back to it several hrs later. What a different wine. Still has a nice burnt orange cranberry and spiced. Acids much more in balance. I think this is still very very primary. I would give remaining bottles 3-5 years more. A lot going on inside that need time to become really good.

At first it was very disappointing. Very closed. Decanted for three plus hours and it improved. Dryer on the finish and less fruit than I was expecting. Will try leaving for a while before trying next bottles but hard to say whether this will evolve into something more interesting

I can't rate it but I can tell you this is not ready to drink. Massive in the tannin and oak department. Opened before I read all these reviews saying just that - not ready. I will wait another 3-5 years before I try this wine again

A wine of tremendous energy and tension - just a bit too young. After open 3 - 4 hours it softened and became much more friendly. Still, loaded up with spice and acid. Long finish. I’m looking forward to the next one which I hope will be about 5 years from now. I think this wine at 13 - 20 will be well improved.

Decanted 3 hours. Compared to the last bottle this is really coming around. Musty European nose, earth, spice, tobacco, barnyard on the nose. Flavors are much more round and weighty now. Drank beautifully over the next two hours and paired with rack of lamb. Enjoyed this Brunello a lot.

Decanted for three hours. Wonderful Sangiovese nose with that touch of sweetness also in the taste. Still a little tight and not quite ready IMHO. Medium mouth feel and nice layering of flavors but it's subtle and not over bearing or powerful. More of a feminine Brunello (which most are) but I think will improve in the coming months.

Translucent carnelian color. This has an entrancing nose of red berries, potpourri, and serious minerality. In the mouth, all the elements seem tightly delineated to start, though this somewhat broadens out on the midpalate. There's moderate but not oppressive acidity through the finish, which lingers with plum and other stone fruit flavors. This has an almost Côte de Nuits-like character, as it has an incredible aromatic and gustatory breadth, while maintaining concentration, and remaining elegant throughout. 92 points today, likely higher in a few years' time.

I respectfully disagree with Ms. Larner and Messrs. Galloni and Suckling. This Brunello is certainly good. At present, however, it is not very good much less exceptional - even after oxygenating with Menu and Vinturi and several hours of decanting. I will hold my other bottles until the reviews suggest the wine has improved. The reported drinking window of 2017-2030 should be re-evaluated.
Relative to my prior tasting in 2015, this has improved but only marginally. It remains pretty tight with more integrated tannins than two years ago but yet minimal complexity and secondary notes. Good acidity, tension, and some promising structure. Do not touch until 2019+. Tasted both from a glass (poured upon the opening) and from decanter over 5+ hours.

Had first bottle in 2015, but was still pretty closed up then. The two years since have helped to smooth out the tannins. Drinking well now and promises to age into something even better.

Tasted blind. Pop and poured. Wine & Whisky night at SK's. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of grilled bell peppers, herbs, chocolate oak, stewed dark red plums. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), chewy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, dark red stewed plums, grilled bell peppers, dried herbs, smoky tobacco, peppery spices. Long finish. Very good quality. But I was guessing a SuperTuscan wine rather than a Brunello. I seriously thought there was some Cab somewhere in this, based on my blind tasting note. Nope I am not insinuating anything. Still at a young stage now. Re-explore again in 4+ years' time.

Time and method, what a difference! Tried a bottle exactly one year ago, decanted for two hours, and sadly experienced overwhelming tannins. I was doubtful the Argiano could ever come around. Today, four hours before dinner, I opened a bottle and poured enough into a 375ml bottle for a half fill. Two hours later I filled and corked the 375ml bottle and left the bottle open for further breathing. By dinner time (a slow cooked beef roast) the Argiano at least equaled the WA95 rating, with promised to achieve the JS98 rating. The 2010 vintage is amazing.
this needs some time or a long decant. first taste was overly acidic and not much fruit. 2 hours later, the dark fruit and chocolate over tones kicked in. will be holding off for some time in my remaining bottles but expect good things.

Double decanted, with 2 hours in bottle and 2 more slow ox in bottle. Lots of potential, but nowhere near as ready as the 2010 La Serena BdM that we brought to the same dinner. Somewhat muted on the nose. It was good, but I think with more time it could be great. Wait to open remaining bottles, or decant for half a day.

I'm not a Brunello drinker, but I liked this one. Quite acidic at first, needed a good full 2h decant to balance out. Restrained, very pleasurable, but lacking complexity. Try again in 1.5/2 years.

Still totally primary compared to other BdM from the same vintage. Creamy texture with chocolate. High acidity but good fruits and tannins to keep it on balance. Way better with 1 hour of air. My liking would be more secondary notes. Try again in 2 years. Really good!

PnP at resturant so unfortunately could not decant. A dark, brooding Brunello that is still very young and backwards. Even after a couple of hours in the bottle, it still wasn't giving much. Aromas of coffee and pepper. Full-bodied with a dense and chewy texture. Tart, black raspberry, black licorice, espresso bean, black pepper, and hint of tobacco saturates the palate. Tannins are silky and not obtrusive. I see this becoming something special in 3-4 years (+93)

Deep red and clear in the glass with no bricking or violet. A small amount of coarse sediment. On the nose it was primarily red berries, with some vanilla, and faint herbal notes. Same on palate. The fruit is really very precise and piercing at this point. Initially, the structure was very firm and a little foreboding. Overnight at 4C did help soften and open the wine up. Similar to other recent notes, seems this bottle may have been closed down and should wait 2 yrs for the next one. 93pts seems reasonable due to the precision of the fruits and the structure, which even though is a little overwhelming is finely balanced. Should be a really fine wine in the future.

A thanksgiving dinner disappointment. I've had this a few times now and it's always been great, until now. I can't help but think it's in a closed phase right now. RP suggests drinking this from 2017 onward while WS suggests after 2019. I've got a few more of these that won't see light for a few more years. The 2011 is drinking well in the meantime....

90-91+ This wine has potential, and alot of it. I like my Italian reds mature, so imo this needs another 5 years easy. Nose is tight, even after a few hrs open (I hear 6-7 hr decant does the trick, but I didn't prepare that well.) Still showing nice Anise, spice, dried herbs and Tuscan Terroir. Palate is dark cherry/sour cherry, medium body, medium tannin, plum, tannin is not heavy or gritty but quite astringent, acidity is mouth watering, fruit really shows in the finish which is pretty lengthy. Very excited to see where this one goes, solid QpR and great ageability.

Weekly tasting group #226; A mixed set fully blind tasted. (@ The factory by MN): Perfumed bouquet with vanilla, black olives, chocolate and some rustic flavors. On the palate dark and red berry fruits, herbs, pepper, firm acidity, healthy tannin with a pleasant bite and some bitterness in the finish. Superbe BdeM. Powerful and bold. Tart cherry with sage and earth on the nose. Enjoyed at a restaurant after only 30 minutes of decanting. Red Mountain-like florals, lush purple berries, oak imparted sweet spices, dust, and rockin' minerality on a vivacious bouquet. Powerful and gritty, purple berry driven attack, bracing and rounded middle and back that feature medium plus acid and medium to medium plus tannins, long and thought evoking finish. Juicy, lively, rich, and bordering on the profound. Somewhat modernly styled, yet delivering everything one might hope for in BdM, at a bargain price. It has the substance to age for 15 to 20 years from now. 94-95.

Nice break from my normal consumption of jammy Cali Cabs... Earthy structure & natural spice & an approach to highlight the land and not necessarily the winemaker. Have tasted a fair number of 2010 BdM by now but this was the first bottle I drank, and hence could follow over a good 3h. Pnp. For the first 30 min or so you get a good impression of the quality and depth of the fruit in 2010, this is all primary with fairly sweet dark and red fruit, very juicy but already with plenty of herbs and earth. Around the 30 min mark (without decant) the tannins come out and the wine closes somewhat, but not to an extent that it's not fun to drink. Still, the wine is clearly firmer and more restrained on the fruit, while gaining precision and remaining every bit as aromatic with herbal and floral aromas. Very good length too. For Argiano the 2010 is better than the 04 and 06 IMHO. Overall very worthy and enjoyable following this wine at this young age over an evening, as opposed to those less impressive snapshots at tastings.

Amazing. Tasted the first one in early 2015. A year later still amazing. The strongest most fragrant aroma of any 2010 Brunello. First taste is big, fruity - oranges, red fruit - very intense. The finish is incredibly smooth with a hint of smoke and earth than leaves a very subtle but faintly noticable after taste. One of the best Brunellos in my view
Enjoyable wine. Soft texture and red cherry flavors with decent intensity. Medium length. Not a highly expressive nose. May develop a bit more complexity with age but I wouldn't hesitate to drink it today

Rating more on potential than on current status. I think this will become an excellent wine in 3-4 years. At the same time, I am not as upbeat on this one compared to others, Talenti and Silvio Nardi, that were tasted at the same time. Must be my predilections showing, as several others who have commented and written about the 2010 Argiano rave about it in far more glowing terms against the rest of the 2010 pack.

Decanted and began drinking right away so it took a while for the nose to come around. Again with the Tuscan food, this wine mellows beautifully with a little air time, smooth, rich red fruity, mineral and earth. I think a case in reserve of this is not enough. I'm gonna look for more.

Earthy, slightly sweet, with lots of young cherries and superb acidity and evident structure...but very drinkable now. Slight disjointedness between alcohol level, acid, and fruit...however, these should blend with some short term cellaring time. When I drink these ready to drink Bdm's from 2010, they remind me of the 2009 Bordeaux crop. Very approachable now, but who knows about the long term... Which poses the question of "Why do we need to collect and age modern made wine these days?"

young but good. fine now, but of course will likely be mellower and maybe richer if you can wait. I am too old to wait (and always have been). i liked it better than the 2009 which was relatively sweeter. i have had two of these at $50 a bottle and they are worth it. Maybe they should go for less since my total wine store plays the 10% off for 6 game.

I bought 14 of these recently and decided to give one a try to gauge how long I needed to wait. Decanted for about an hour, this wine was quite tannic but with great Tuscan food pairings, showed up very nicely. Deep red fruit, nice mineral, long finish and wonderful on the palette. I'm going to try to cellar these for another 3 - 5 years, but it's gonna be tough.

Needs time, at least 3 years or more. The tannins are unbalanced at this point and need to integrate with the fruit. You can taste the potential though. Was still very drinkable with pasta carbonara.

Giving this a provisional score of 90, as I don't think this is ready to drink. Still pretty closed up, even after three hours of decanting. Could use at least three more years of aging to tone down the tannins. Encouraging notes of tobacco and dark fruit.

Tomatoes in all states of preparedness, sanguinity, raw red meats, herbs, mineral ores, and brett (as a condiment) on the bouquet. The wine tastes like it smells, featuring a luscious red-fruited and juicy attack...then all hell breaks loose. The wine reveals a veritable truckload of fine-grained, absolutely rockin' tannins on the rich, earthy, mind-bending mid palate. Layered and complex, bordering on the profound. Grainy tannins linger through an incredibly long, mouth-puckering finish.
Very young at present. Recommend holding until 2020...at the earliest. The wine should add complexity, weight, and depth over the next five to ten years and show beautifully beyond 2030. Tremendous potential with this with long-term cellaring. 93-95.

Wanted to see whether the 2010 Brunellos lived up to their hype. Decanted for 2 hours and drank over the next 2. This is the first 2010 Brunello I've tried, and while it is definitely tannic and fleshy, it's pleasant to drink and you can tell this is going to be a great wine in 5 years time. Very promising considering this is at the cheaper end of the spectrum. 93+

Remarkably poised and agile, with plenty of juicy red and black fruit. Cranberry, leather, smoke, vanilla, and anise as well. Very firm structure that should make for old bones. I typically enjoy wines in this range most by themselves, but this one was magnificent with blackened ribeye. It helped to accentuate caramel notes in the steak, while the charred steak made bright cherry notes in the Brunello really pop. One of those cases where the sum was greater than the parts. This really is what it's all about for me. 93-95pts.

Tasted double blind. I knew it wasn't new world, but I didn't think it was Italian either. Initially presented unripe red fruits with plenty of juiciness. This later developed some earthiness and ripe berries with hints of licorice, cedar and leather. Nice acidity with a lingering finish. Great, but still young. See you again in a few years.

From a 175 glass at Fortnum & Mason wine bar in London. Considering it was from a 750 bottle that the wine bar attendant said had been open 2 days but was vacuvined, quite outstanding. Black fruits, leather, cigar box with sweetness, I can see not touching one till 2020. But if you like them young with some baby fat, decant and go for it. Outstanding wine for the price!

Brunello di Montalcino 2010 - 30 top names of the vintage (Singapore): Dark garnet, more like a Merlot than a Sangiovese in color. Discrete nose of dark fruit, spices, but also some smoke and earth, after 2h of decanting animalic notes appeared as well. Medium-full bodied on the palate with ripe fruit but the excellent structure and freshness the 2010 vintage provides. Also here, a good Brunello for this price level but not a great, distinctive one. 92-93

Deep crimson and clear in the glass. Really appealing nose with: cherry, vanilla, and floral notes. Same notes on the palate with some black fruit and tar as well. Fairly long finish. This wine was packed with loads of perfectly ripe fruit, had silky smooth tannins, good acidity, and appropriate alcohol concentration. Overall, an excellent and well-balanced wine.

What a lovely, graceful Brunello. At Whiskey and Steak in Hermosa Beach. Decanted for an hour. Immediately accessible with soft oak, cherry and a touch of leather on the nose and palate. More floral as the night progressed. Very well integrated with a medium finish. Paired with a generous porterhouse.

Some people on the WB board act like 2010 is another 1997 fruit bomb year. This is my first 2010 and it was loaded with stern structure. Wow, this was decanted for about 4 hours too according to my friend who brought it. Promising example of the vintage. I think this producer is reputed to lean modern and yet seemed to be anything but a fruit bomb. If you open this soon, you'll likely like it better a couple nights later or better yet wait 5-10yrs. Probably unfair to score this wine now.

Monthly Tasting Group: Brunello's (Rinata, Mpls): Had a small pour of this. About 5hr of slow-ox. I was anxious to try it since it was one of the '10's I've picked up. Showing good potential for sure, nice, ruby red, primary, tight, hi toned fruit, berries, prominent phenolics, grippy now, long and astringent . Needs 5 years. Scored reserved for now. 92-94(+?)pts on potential

There is a LOT of potential here - and to be fair I'm not feeing too guilty about opening a bottle now. Time in the decanter really is required right now - 2hrs seems to do it - and brings out the firmer cherry notes. Layered, complex but quite rich at the moment. A lot of fat on the bones right now.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Blind Tasting $60+ (Roswell, GA): Deep crimson; nose is different, chocolate and cherries, cocoa, French oak and modern, really fresh fruit that's red; palate starts out creamy with sweet cherry, then the tannins and sharp acid beat up my mouth, very disjointed even with 2+ hours of air; the French oak seemed awkward, the fruit was nice but the tannin was harsh, the acid was with kicker telling me this wine is too young...do not open for several years at least; some potential there but it will need to come together; I called Siro Pacenti BdM due to the French oak.

Decanted and poured, this wine showed three distinct stages. It begin withs tart red fruit on the bouquet and palate. This gives way to a dark, forward, dense and opulent stage that detracts from the overall impression as the wine seems to lack focus and a sense of place. Finally the wine turn stern and reserved with tannins becoming assertive on the finish and acidity poking trough the earlier rich, dense fruit.

Not rated as this was a quick taste of three 2010 BdMs: Nice color. Strangely this wine was more approachable than the other two wines tasted, but there was not much concentration in the nose or on the palate. Smelled a bit stewed. Maybe this was a bad bottle given the other reviews. Judgment reserved.

This is clearly years away from hitting its stride. Dry Sangiovese with aggressive tannins. Even after 2+ hours of decanting, the wine still tasted young and closed down.

This is a big wine, there is so much going on with this wine at once that it completely envelopes your senses. The floral and the earthy mineral nose. The flavors of berries, floral and spice, with just the right balance of earthiness and tannins, complete with a long finish make this a very complicated yet lovely wine. I agree with the Community Tasting Notes that this wine has time. I will definitely keep one in my cellar...enjoy (:

Pungent nose of mushroom, meat, spices, berry; luscious layered body with flavors of sharp cherry fruit along with some floral hints. Shockingly good right now.
Time should be very, very good to this. I am endorsing this wine with my wallet. 4 bottles on pre-arrival. Thanks K&L!
Benvenuto Brunello 2015 (2010 Brunello di Montalcino) (Gotham Hall, NYC): The nose showed savory red berry, animal musk and mineral-laden stone with a dark, rich persona. On the palate, it was silky, verging on sappy with tart berry and dark, inner floral tones. The finish was long, as dried red berry saturated the senses with a tannic tug on the cheek.

Cellared since release.
Coravined Nov 10, 11, 12, 2023
Deep ruby color with slight lightening at the rim.

DRINK

Deep ruby in appearance- almost opaque at year 11+.
Complex and evolving nose of black fruit, balsam wood and some vanilla and spice. Needed time in the decanter to fully show its full aromas.

Cork. 14% alc. Dull brown–red tawny colour.

Sandalwood, crushed walnut shells, dried cherry, whoffs of sweet meat and with all those Base notes this still has lift and is lively.

Will improve for another couple of years at least, then probably plateau for a while.

hyper longue. Excellent et en a encore pas mal sous la pédale

Palate is dark cherry/sour cherry, medium body, medium tannin, plum, tannin is not heavy or gritty but quite astringent, acidity is mouth watering, fruit really shows in the finish which is pretty lengthy.

On the palate beautiful red fruits, some chocolate, licorice, earth, coffee, toast and autumn impressions. Refined and fresh acidity in a firm dose, and still sticky tannin. Still very youthful. Wait at least until the early 2020’s. Overall a beautiful and elegant wine. 91 – 92+ for tonight.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like mineral, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus and cherry. It tastes like cherry, cinnamon and mint. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Black fruits, leather, cigar box with sweetness, I can see not touching one till 2020. But if you like them young with some baby fat, decant and go for it. Outstanding wine for the price!

There is a LOT of potential here - and to be fair I'm not feeing too guilty about opening a bottle now. Decanted and poured, this wine showed three distinct stages. It begin withs tart red fruit on the bouquet and palate. Finally the wine turn stern and reserved with tannins becoming assertive on the finish and acidity poking trough the earlier rich, dense fruit.

On the palate, it was silky, verging on sappy with tart berry and dark, inner floral tones. The finish was long, as dried red berry saturated the senses with a tannic tug on the cheek.
