Lovely little champagne. Powerful nose of brioche, pear, lemon, and yeast, and a delicious palate of lemon rind, hay, flint, apple, and a hint of almonds. The mousse is fine and very long lasting, with excellent mouthfeel and great zippy acidity. A lot of fun.

Disgorged July 2022. Lemon rind and lemon along with yellow plum and the skin of yellow plum giivng a nice bitterness. Green apple and a touch of smokey flint. Nice dark undertones adding complexity.

This obviously has seen some age before release. Beautiful nose with toasty, nutty, leesy notes. The palate is a little underwhelming, unfortunately…could use more structure and acidity and the dosage overwhelms the wine and dominates the finish. Not bad for $30, though.

By the glass. Traditional blend only that in this case meunier is majority providing a little elaborate floral profile on the nose followed by a rough fruity palate. High dosage of 8.8 grams per liter that for some gives an elegant character and that for my taste is nothing but "cookie".

Solid Champagne, medium body, good fruit and acid, good balance, drank easily with scallops and swordfish, not much complexity but lots of flavor, would drink again, disgorged December 2022.

Light color. The nose shows aromas of dough, orchard fruits, cherry blossom and a hint of minerals. This is medium bodied on the palate with very good concentration and real class. The medium plus length finish features a mineral element.

Return to Willamette; 7/2/2023-7/8/2023 (Portland & Willamette): The only vineyard which started with champagne and I was definitely a fan. A producer that I like. Out of 375. Easy drinking. I always feel like it’s a hint of sweet and very light and easy.

penultimate bottle from a couple of cases of older 375 ml bottles. hauntingly delicious: baked apple, a bit of sherry nuttiness from the age, medium acid, and a plush texture.

One of my favorite QPRS in champagne hands down. Eaten with a super sushi meal at my favorite spot in NYC (Sushi Amane) and so the food probably stole the show from the wine but this was very nice and light and complimented it well.

More buttery and spicy on the nose. Lemons, grapefruit and warmer spices and hint of ginger on palate. Much more complexity versus the Insolent cuveée. Longer on finish. Good acidity and salinity making a crisp finish.

Pale. Very mild, nondescript aroma. Fairly lightweight, creamy lemon taste. Totally clean, but despite the retailer promising "heft", it's too insubstantial to keep my attention. Fine, unremarkable and a touch overpriced. "Mostly meunier", 3 years on lees. [Composite cork + cage; 12.5% abv; Cork & Cask, £34.95].

I Love grower champagne, and this one is no exception! This one tastes like it was made from grapes that just missed the cut at being grand cru. It is so perfectly assembled, so elegant, perfectly priced. The smell is intriguing, and all those intriguing autolytic notes translate to the palate, with an athletic acidity framed by a zippy citrus finish. Next exit, yum town!!

Retail $50. 40% Meunier, 35% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir. Disgorgement February 2021. Somewhat coincidentally, while I was in New York, buying a couple of bottles of this wine from the wine shop inside Penn Station (decent shop, OK prices for Manhattan), my wife did the same from our local Total Wine in Houston. Same wine, same disgorgement, similar notes.
Retail $50. 40% Meunier, 35% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir. Disgorgement February 2021. I bought a bottle of this in New York City last week to have in the hotel (for $60 since, well, Manhattan). When I came home, I found the exact same wine in the fridge after my wife made a trip to Total Wine here in Houston. Not surprising, perhaps, very similar notes, although I am slightly less enamored with this bottle since, well, I am not drinking it in Manhattan.
Retail $50. 40% Meunier, 35% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir. I found this around the corner from my hotel in Chelsea for $60 since, well, NYC. I took it back to the room to have with pizza with my son. Nice choice. While this will never be mistaken for a Krug, it does have subtle citrus, plenty of hazelnut, and oodles of yeasty goodness. The palate is equally inviting--just a solid effort all around from this third generation grower champagne house in Dizy.

25/40/35 PN/PM/C. Disgorged July 2021, L-TR142921. No dosage info beyond Brut.
Drank this over a couple of hours. It's at the crisp end of Brut for me. Dry, a touch of citrus, some mineral. Lighter on the fruit than I expected from some of the earlier TNs. The finish is drying, quite long and a little more-ish.
Overall this is a perfectly crisp fizz as an aperitif. But for me it lacks the depth for food, or any much interest.
Probably not a repeat buy for me at the ~US$37 that I paid.

Delicious brut that goes with everything but also delightful on its own. Fine mousse. Lots of white fruit, some mineral, anise and suchlike. Very well balanced and good depth. At $35 I think I found my new favorite "value" champagne.

By the glass. Relatives of Jacquesson but with a diametrically different style, much more fruity (pear and apple) and direct with a permanent Munier. In my modest opinion it takes a few years to refine and offer a character of more freshly baked cakes. With a dosage of 9 gr. don’t expect a final dry blow. Promising for the future but too simple right now.

Mycket bra.

nice entry level champagne, almost a blanc des noirs (pinot meunier 40%, chardonnay 35%, pinot noir 25%) which delivers stright notes of crust of bread and a decent minerality. Well paired with a risotto with squids and shrimps with M&S for his birthday after so long

Good stuff. Opened really tight. Puckered right up and sucked the moisture right out of our mouths. Tried it on its own, then in mimosa for Mother's Day, which were delicious. Mother's Day was appropriate, as it was a gift from mom, some time ago.
After a while,we tried another pour of just the Champagne.
Really opened up; fruity, citrus. The beautiful nose was now floral and inviting.
We'll get it again.

Bought at Costco where my experience is excellent that bottles have been stored well. I'm searching for the flavors in others' notes. Small bubbles, appears to be mostly PN from color. The nose is pleasant but non descript, flavors the same. It is underwhelming and I wish I'd picked up the domestic Mumm's. Having bought a stellar grower brut rose from Costco a few years ago, I tend to try new lesser labels. This one - for me and this bottle - is a loser. Sadly, I have another bottle. I'm not questioning those of you who thought more highly of it, probably a different year or batch. The best thing I can say is it's not too sweet. I doubt I'll keep the other half of the bottle.
I raised the score to 85+. No lagging flavors appearing but softer and easier to drink. I did dump the rest of the bottle, no point in keeping it since I have ales I could drink and an old Dehlinger syrah. I will dispose of the remaining bottle, ½ and ½ in the sink.
5/7 Drinking last bottle tonight with half in the drain. It is underwhelming and I should lower the score but won't. Hard to believe this is a Champagne for $36. I thought it was a good buy, hah!

Yeasty nose (although mine was largely on the blink). Good acidity in the mouth with some not too sweet marzipan notes. Short finish. Not too creamy. Less angular than its Chardonnay brethren. Give me more 40% Pinot Meunier: a nice break from Blanc de Blancs.

From 375ml bottle. March 2018 disgorgement. Code 141018. This is showing a both better than when I last had this cuvée around 6 or so years ago. The nose wafts appealing nose of toffee covered green apple, shortbread and white peach. Nice balance on the palate with moderate dosage (6 g/l) good acid and nice body, with fine bubbles. The finish is moderate replaying much of the nose. A very pleasant NV.

Brilliant yellow-gold with medium minus optical density and very high specular reflectivity, with small vigorous bubbles. Aromas are really nice, with fresh bread dough, continental tree fruits, and cream. Crisp and fresh on the palate with medium body and acidity. Flavours of whipped cream and green pear with sweet apple, with some light, flaky pastry. Flavour intensity is medium and length is medium minus, as it finishes cleanly and quickly with just a hint of lingering honeyed apple and pastry.

Disgorged OCT 2014. Brilliant straw colour with medium optical density, very high reflectivity, and very fine, vigorous bubbles. Intense nose, with lemon and orchard stone fruits, along with some hay and doughy sweet breads. Fizzy and moderately intense on the palate, with zesty stone fruits over fresh lemon on the attack, with support from a dough and softer back end. The flavours are strong and intense, with good length, but somehow the intensity is very unobtrusive, making a great bubbly to serve with foods, as it won't dominate. Excellent balance and very dry, this won't overwhelm anything, and has a very classic appeal. Nice!

After reading all the cellar tracker notes I was a bit disappointed. Good wine but nothing special. Quite closed on the nose, some vague lemon, apple and yeast on the palate, which has a good crispiness but perhaps falls short in persistence. From 375. Could not find a disgorgement date on the label. Golden & clear with an elegant mousse. This is Champagne which is not afraid to show a powerful side. Rich and fruity. The deep apple & pear flavors are kept in check with bright acid, and the mouthfeel is easy and approachable. It requires discipline not to drink this too fast as there is a lot to miss. Some slightly sweet yeastiness comes forward as the wine warms, and brings the aforementioned power into play.
I'm consistently amazed at wine that has all of that big character, but can maintain finesse and subtlety. Simple olive oil grilled salmon & roasted vegetables are never overwhelmed here, but as I take sips without the food, that richness cannot be denied. Always an enjoyable grower bottling.

Elegant for it's age. Drinking more like petillant white wine at this stage of life. Older disgorgement - 2008. Found in the cellar late, late to drink. Red fruit Meunier dominant, still drinking well but not at it's peak. If it had some structure and some mousse, it would most definitely be a higher score.

Disgorged May 2014. Fresh and light on the nose - cool, demure orchard fruit and berries, with touches of mint, honey, and brioche. Clean, focused, and refreshing on the palate. Odd showing, but mostly good. Began as normal, with vigorous mousse and citrus notes to the palate, but then took a turn for the worse, showing baked apple notes, slightly oxidized, with hardly any bubbles. Seemed to quickly fall off a cliff, oxidized and flat. But here I sit, the next afternoon, and it is just delicious, with citrus and energy. Disgorged December 2011. 45% Meunier, 35% Chard, 20% Pinot Noir.

No formal notes. Disgorged Jun 2012? 2009 crop? Nicely balanced, the warmer notes of hazelnut and yeast are balanced out by the fresh citrus acidity from the chardonnay. Its vibrant but doesn't have overpowering acidity. A healthy dose of pinot meunier gives this a nice weight. Very good at an even better price.

Two words: balance and precision. Pinot Meunier is the dominant variety by the numbers but in practice this strikes an extremely nice balance between the three grapes, with perhaps Chardonnay leaving its mark most obviously. The dosage is perfect, this tastes neither sweet nor harsh in an aggressive way. More minerally than toasty, but there are also hints of the latter here. Great as it is, but also quite food friendly. I don't think an entry level NV can get much better than this. I tip my hat to the producer who continues to sell this at 21.90 €, I would have happily paid more.

I have enjoyed this non vintage champagne very, very much in the past. I loved its exhuberance, energy and complexity, while it still had plenty of focus and grip. This bottle showed less ginger and energy, was more restrained and more subtle, with notes of meringue, very clean. I opened this for our BBQ to celebrate the twins' 9th birthday and return from camp, and I did not share it.

Again I say.. Nicolas Chiquet is crafting some of the best and most affordable champagnes. He harness the power and exuberance of the Marne with elegance. These are great champagnes that simply make you smile when you drink them, and it does not help that Nicolas is one of the nicest guys around!!

France 2013 - Champagne; 4/14/2013-4/15/2013 (Reims): Tasted at Gaston Chiquet. Disgorged September 2012 (2009 base). Creamy nose with dough and lighter citrus notes. More complex than the previous wine. Rounder on the palate with a creamy and soft mousse and a nice bit of tartness on the finish. Very youthful. Needs time. Very good. 88+

(Disgorged August 2010) After two days it seems to attain a kind of grape fruit bitterness; otherwise very satisfactory middle-weight champagne as usual, perhaps ageing, but not too old; lively mousse.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Pale gold. Slight brioche notes on the nose with a nice whiff of apple pie. On the palate, there's a hint of almond as well as more rich granny smith apple notes. Refreshing and delicious, and certainly well-crafted, if not mind-numbingly complex.

Sinewy young Pinot fruit dominates the nose with aromas of slate and fine spice as well. Lean and surprisingly dry on the palate with flavors of young tart pear and crisp apples with exceptional minerality. Wound tight -- this needs lots of air or some additional time in the cellar. Great raw material here. Disgorged 6/12.

Some pear and citrus on the nose. Good sparkle on the palate, but the dosage seemed a bit heavy. This bubble hit a lot of the notes, and was very rich in what it did offer but was missing some of the complexity and focus of a better champ. Still, not a bad QPR

BTG. Quite rich golden color. Showing pear, grapefruit, and red apple flavors, with noticeable almond and a bit of yeastiness. Plenty of acid (although it's not really racy), and an extremely chalky, almost tannic texture. Nice but I would have liked just a little bit more drive on the palate.

This was fairly pleasant for Sunday brunch. The nose had lemon, citrus oils, and greens apples coming through. Beads were okay but ran out of vivacity after abt 2hrs. On the palate crisp apples - not much drama. A good champagne but not memorable.

I love this stuff. With Boll. being as expensive as it is, this has become my go-to champagne. When young--almonds, light toast, pears and apples, salinity; with bottle age it develops wonderful yeasty richness.

Disgorged in July 2009. Meunier, chardonnay and PN from Premier Cru Vineyards. At 1st, the joyful fruit from pinot meunier jumps at you. A little candy like with fresh citrus and a hint of minerality. The palate is a more austere with a nice acidity and fresh orchard fruits. With air, nose becomes more elegant and shows more minerality. Not very leesy. This is really good.

Rich, viscous, nutty, honeyed, sweet butter, pear. Nice acidity in the mid-palatte to balance. A tad sweet. Surprising it had such a long finish for a sub $50 NV bottling. Excellent value given the mass-produced dogshit at the same price. Another Terry Thiese winner...

Disgorged 03/03/05 so must have been on the shelf awhile? Little shop age didn't hurt it at all. Luscious nose of damp oak leaves and porcini mushroom. Well integrated acid, almost subtle, sets up golden delicious apple and thick, sweet chalk. So much chalk! Finish is nicely graphitic. This is elegant champagne, but with a little welcome heft. Very good grower champagne. Blend of pinot noir, meunier and chardonnay. Floral nose with some lemon - nice grip on the palate, minerally and chalky. Finish is abrupt, keeping this from being a better wine. My first grower champagne - I would definitely say it's unique given the usual Grande Marques names I've had prior. Somewhat drier, with less fruit but bunches of minerals, chalk and lemon.

This is from the January 20 disgorgement that per the website is dosed at 6 g/l. Not sure what the base year is.
Delicious aperitif style that , with some time in the glass, develops some moderate complexity. Green apple, citrus and yeast notes.
The low dosage and high acidity give this some "zing" and the bottle disappeared quickly- always a good sign.

The wine looks light gold colored. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon, peach, green apple, toast and biscuity. It tastes like peach, apple, pear, honeysuckle and biscuity. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

The finish is moderate replaying much of the nose. A very pleasant NV.

Nice!

Lovely color. The nose shows aromas of citrus fruits, toast, butter, minerals, and a hint of red berries. This is medium light bodied on the palate with good concentration and good finesse. The medium plus length finish features a strong mineral element and brisk acidity. Disgorged in January of 2015. Great style!

Served in a large wine glass. Silky and creamy, supple but fresh, vinous and harmonious, very gentle but lively mousse, red apple, rounded off by well-judged dosage, an easy style perhaps but attractive.

After reading all the cellar tracker notes I was a bit disappointed. Good wine but nothing special. Quite closed on the nose, some vague lemon, apple and yeast on the palate, which has a good crispiness but perhaps falls short in persistence. No real complexity, slightly sweet, effervecence fades after a while. Good but i'm not impressed, works at around 35$

Pear, golden apple, fresh lemon juice with a bit of peel, and saline and stony minerality. Fairly dry. Good fresh acidity; well balanced. Light juicy texture, steering clear of watery. Nice purity and precision, and quite tasty.

Yeasty dough jumps out on the nose with pear and earthy minerality. I thought this was a beautiful wine but the moose was a little disappointing, not enough bubbles but this was so good that it wasn't a major detractor.

Lots of mousse. Razor sharp acidity out of the bottle that calmed down eventually. The PM gives it great structure, and it has amazing mouthfeel. It might have been a little bit of a let down relative to expectations, but it's certainly a beautiful bottle of wine. Great complement to food.

N. Buttercream, egg cream, melted butter...rich and warm. Extremely autolytic.
P. Butter, really creamy, potato chips sans salt. The mousse, however, is not one of its better features. Still, I love the creamy richness. Just gets a little hard to drink after a glass or so because it IS so rich.

Not my style - has a bitter, almost Sherry-like quality on the palate that interferes with the creamy mousse. Could it be the 45% Pinot Meunier? I'm not sure.

Some girls are just a little curvy, nothing wrong with that!
