Method: tasted at the domaine (in the cellar) with Anselme; vintages '17, '16, and '15; disg. right in front of me on April 2024 right before consuming
Nose: light strawberry, faint nuts
Palate: strawberry cream, mint; long finish of nuts, minerality... waves of complexity; medium+ to full- vinous body; medium strength pinpoint bubbles; low+ strength fine tannins; medium acidity
Overall thoughts: This was handicapped by being disgorged a minute before I tasted it, and it still blew me away. A ton of complexity, both in terms of flavor and texture/structure. 94 - 95 points (and probably better once it has time to come together after disgorgement). Excellent wine!

Nose: white flowers, wild berries, red fruits, hints of rose Notes: 12.5% ABV, 1.33g dosage, disgorged in 2023 June, 94 % Chardonnay and 6% Pinot Noir. This again and again would be one of the top Rose Champagne in my mind. Oxidative in style this is highly complex and has an extremely smooth palate. The beauty of Selosse is that it can be oxidative and energetic at the same time. The nose is so floral and so delicious. The slightly sweet aftertaste is intoxicating and stunning. Disg 2009 base 2004 Complex scents of dried red berries and dried goji introduce a leaner champagne, with more tension compared to the disg 10, displaying airyness, great depth of flavor, perfect balance, with more minerality and ending in a long and chiselled finish.

2018 Disgorgement is on fire tonight, intensely aromatic and simply unmistakable with its infinite layers of spiced red berry fruit, blood orange and chalky minerals that wrap around the palate, with singular texture, weight and density, giving way to a chiseled, vibrant and incredibly long finale. Just nothing like it.

Decanted for 1 hour to dissolve some of the effervescence as theres quite a lot of champagne and roses for the night. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of honey suckle, tropical fruits, melon, mango, toast, sweet biscuit, yeast. Deliberate oxidation style. High acidity and sweet on the palate. One of the best Champange Rose.

Beautiful champagne. Interesting bouquet that had citrus notes initially but that dropped as the champagne opened more. Citrus notes were replaced by yeastier notes. Flavor changed similarly. Bubbles were fine and consistent. Really nice all around.

Bewitching nose of raspberry, smoke, lavender and wet stone.
On the palate, the freshness is magnificent for a champagne whose disgorging dates back 14 years. The touch is lively and smooth at the same time, allowing the wine to develop its entire palette of aromas, including raspberry and smoke, the two dominant aromas. Then the magnificent balance of acidity and freshness allows the juice to unfold with floral aromas and mineral salts. This rosé combines density and delicacy, it has a presence, something obvious. The finish is superb, chalky, saline and on wet stone, with vibrant length.
Great champagne rosé.

An salmon-tinted copper hue in the glass. Savory and full nose that gives way to robust fruit as the wine opened up. Beautiful palate feel and long finish. A complete work of art - balanced, smooth, complete.

(Disgorged May 2nd 2022, base year 2016 with reserves from 2015 and 2014, approx. 92-95% Chardonnay with 5-8% added still red wine from Ambonnay, dosage 1,5 gr/l) Always such a lovely nose showing wild strawberries, freshly baked bread and minerals and with some time in the glass opens up with hazelnut and milk chocolate. Pleasant lime zest bitterness on the palate combined with minerals before the cream takes over on the mid to late where a cherry stone bitterness takes over. Leaving a delicious minerals saltiness on the lips as well, just perfect! (Best with 0-9 years extra cellaring)

Bottle disgorged Oct 2022, so this is relatively young. Based on the 2014/2013 vintages, roughly 95% chardonnay and 5% still red wine from Egly-Ouriet. Note from memory. A beautiful orange-copper color, almost more reminsicnet of sauternes than rose champagne, with a quickly dissolving mousse. Quite savory upon opening (maybe herbal pinot notes?), but with more air the oxidative chardonnay profile became dominant, creating an incredibly complex wine that just got better throughout the night. The last sip was the best. Delicious and exciting, and I'm so grateful to try it, but hard to justify more bottles based on current prices.

Opened and drank over dinner with Korean food. Pinot noir & Chardonnay blend. Slightly brioche nose, super balanced and integrated fruit filled palate. Everything is just so subtle in this wine, compared with the more powerful and reductive breathren the initial and VO, this was so delicate, even the bubbles are quite fine and gentle. This really gained with more air and was pure joy through to the last drop. I m a huge fan and I need to buy more! 94+

Deg: 2022.

Tete de Cuvee Rose Tasting (Brookhaven, GA): (2020 disgorgement) Amber orange color; exotic nose, sour orange and cherry, Extra Brut, citric, natty, cinnamon, hibiscus, floral, complex, gingerbread, cloves, a good bit of tannic grip on the palate; unique and very good, this style is so distinctive, without peers; the next day this shows a little more of what others talk about with blue fruit Pinot Noir and the super nutty and oxidative Chardonnay base- it was still unique but lacked the elegance and floral components that made it so attractive the night before.

First Selosse - easy to discern the quality - a 2022 disgorgement brilliant light pink with copper tones. Clean ready nose of tangerine oil and minty herbal stuff - Meyer lemon citricity - clean dense clingy palate presence long after creamy fuzzy furry wine is swallowed. Not one hard rough or angular edge that requires understanding or excuse.

Fathers' Gathering (Q by Peter Chang - Bethesda, Maryland): Fully mature complex nose displaying delicious generous yellow fruit, peach, dry apricot, a hint of cherry, marzipan, a hint of sherry, sweet spices and mineral. This is a bit more oxidative than usual. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered delicious yellow fruit, very fine medium generous mousse, very complex and beautifully detailed, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long generous yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of sherry at the end. This beautifully expresses the uniqueness of Selosse Rose.

Picked up this bottle this past year when we were visiting and our friends didn't want to take their bottle so we planned to drink it when all together again. It's a truly great wine. Light and easy and yet with a bit more of something underneath that let's you know you need to pay more attention. I never like it quite as much as his other bottlings but it's still quite delicious.

Disgorgement 2016. Muted at first, decanted for 30 mins and poured it back in the bottle. I loved it from the get go but got so much better with air. This is an wonderfully complex wine that defies classification and the vinous quality of it cannot be understated. It is more a still wine than a champagne through and through. Absolutely delightful.

Dibbs's birthday celebration: Disgorged in 2016. Was decanted and didn't have any bubbles (nor did it look like a rose but that may have been the lighting) so was stumped, was even thinking Loire Chenin until someone said champagne which I agreed made perfect sense. Oxidative and tired to begin with but thankfully it somehow became fresher and tighter with air. Notes of grapefruit and wild strawberries, despite the breadth it had fantastic tension and energy. A profound and singular wine, very thankful for this generous pull from the host.

Jacques Selosse Rose NV Nose: red date, honey, rose, dried fig Notes: Disgorged 2021. When the nose is so seductive it is rare for the palate to be so intense and firm but this is the rose everyone would desire. Made with a slightly oxidative style it makes me wonder how the adjectives of slightly oxidative and energetic can be used on the same wine. Perhaps this is the magic of Selosse and why it truly stands out compared to many other makers in the same region. This would be one of the best and finest Rose Champagne I've had. I think this wine is ready to be consumed although it won't hurt to leave it in the cellar for another 2-3 years. Judging from the taste today it should last at least another 10-12 years without any problem. Drink: now - 2035 Rating: 93

Wow, incredible! It’s rare that such a high-priced wine actually deliver more than I expected. This is not just the usual rosé-colored bottle of bubbles. On the nose, intense aromas of orange peel, rosehip jam, caramel, marzipan, saffron, baked sourdough bred, roasted hazelnuts, nougat, rose petals and dried red berries, complimented by clear mineral notes of chalk, a powerful leesy feel and massive (controlled) oxidative notes of hay, walnuts and almost “voile” (after an hour, it smelled a bit like Vin Jaune behind the dried fruits). Amazing! On the palate, it’s quite full-bodied, dry, and has a delicate, balanced medium+ acidity. The bubbles were creamy and vibrant. Caramelized oranges, marzipan, quince jam, rosehip, tangerine, roasted pines, Crème Brûlée, dried raspberry and a salty punch in the finish.
Just insane!

2019 disgorgement - side by side C Bouchard Creux d'Enfer (14 vintage 18 disgorgement) what a beautiful way to kick off dinner. They were very different examples of great rose. While the Bouchard was much more bright pink in colour, was much more high pitch pretty fruit forward the Selosse was much more orange whitish in colour, had a very deep nose intially of hops and then changing into a Ulysse Collin ringer (totally reminded me of the nose of Enfers 2015 base 48 months had recently) with chalky texture. Two sides of a shiny coin to me Selosse was outstanding today and held more overall interest.

What complexity in this rosé! It's rare. It starts on the nose, with scents of lavender, a basket of red fruits, smoke and wet stone.
The mouth is in total harmony with the nose. First there is a creamy foam, and a magnificent freshness with just enough tension for this textured rosé to release all its juice. The red fruit is bright, but very quickly gives way to wet stone, which dominates, with ashes and a floral side. The whole imposes itself, it is harmonious, there is an obvious presence. Great finish as saline as floral that stretches in elegance and length.
Great rosé.

2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Fully mature complex nose displaying slightly dry yellow and red fruit, dry apricot, peach, raspberry soda, cooper, smoke, grilled cep and crushed rocks. There is a hint of Amontillado sherry note which is pleasing. Fully mature palate, nicely layered generous mature yellow and red fruit, beautifully detailed and harmonious, medium fine generous mousse, bright acidity, strong wet rock mineral, and a seamless long finish with copper and sherry at the end. Although it clear expresses a nutty dry sherry note, it is not overwhelming, and the oxidative note is not too pronounced. This is a classic bottle of Selosse Rose that is drinking beautifully.

March 2009 disgorgement. One of its kind, really, and so both defies and transcends description - but I will try to say something. Glinting salmon in appearance, showing some age, but didn't look (and wasn't) hugely mature. Intense and arresting, yet wonderfully friendly with all of the food (we drank this with an ALC menu at a restaurant in France). Not a great deal of fruit, plenty of spice (ginger, even garam masala), attractive orange-peely acidity and something floral along with a moreish umami from all that time in the bottle. Beautifully soft and integrated despite the complexity. Quite superb; we could happily have drunk a bottle each!

First time trying and really wow'd by this btl. I think it's a 2017 DG. Incredible depth in the fruit, the oxidative nuttiness, the lovely acidity that keeps it fresh. Overall quite a bit of weight on the mid palate with noteable viscosity, but it never saturates as the acid keeps it energetic.

Disgorgement April 2018 suggests this is a 2012 base. Complexity is fantastic. Mousse is dialled just perfectly. The oxidative notes blend in perfectly with the Pinot flavours lending the wine a North African/Moroccan spicy feel. A fine food companion of the highest order. The only nit is the oxidative notes are a bit overpowering and at times take center stage. What a trailblazer of a producer though. Champagne is the most interesting wine region right now. The Terroirs, winemaking creativity and helping hand from global warming make possible the widest array of singular wines.

Disgorged 19 April 2018. Pelure d’oignon colour; fresh and minerally but intense and deep nose, salted lemon and Moroccan spices, white nuts and lightly candied stone fruits; the palate is silky and seamless, weighty and vinous but energetic and elegant, with ripe but fresh acidity and subtle bitters, dreamy mousse, and perfectly integrated rich rosé flavours; creamy strawberries on long and comforting, expansove and richly resonant finish. With four years post-disgorgement ageing, it is a perfect peak. There is something magical about this wine, that really sets it apart from any other Champagne rosé. It exists in itself and by itself. In the Bistro at Hotel Olivier Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet, France.

This has gotten some expensive in recent years, and I hate myself for not buying more when I thought value was still great. Nevertheless, this is amazing, and despite the price tag, I think it’s still worth the money. There’s something special about a Selosse champagne - like a Krug, the bouquet is just unique and even my unsophisticated palette can identify it blind. Floral notes with well balanced acidity. Round, long finish. Love it

Pop and poured and enjoyed over 3 hours. Subtle oxidative notes, red fruits and lively acidity. Despite its long finish I still found this bottle slightly shy and not reaching the the full potential of what it could be. I also couldn’t get the mouth-coating rich texture which I experienced with a bottle of dd 04/2018 I had back in 2019. Probably needed a bit more decanting but still a great bottle nonetheless - we all just have the highest of expectations when it comes to Selosse!

This 2010 disgorgement Selosse Rose is one of the most savoury Champagnes I have tasted. Selosse Rose tends to be quite savoury even at release, and with 10 +years of extra ageing there is a significant build-up of umami flavours. Some enjoyed it more than others. The red wine came from Elgy Ouriet. Delicate bouquet of zingy citrus, mushrooms, rose petal, and savoury finish. A distinguished rose with good complexity. (91/100)

Selosse for Christmas Eve dinner. Dégorgement August 2019. Pale salmon colour, incredibly bright. First nose highlights the oxidative notes typical of Selosse: almond/hazelnut, rum, bruised apple/peach. Also dried apricots, pungent grapefruit zest, chalk dust, marzipan and oyster shell/seawater. You can just smell it over and over again before even tasting it. A wide, open, deep nose of tantalizing and suave character. The palate is elegant, very elegant, with fine bubbles, a broad texture, and a focused, saline finish. Grapefruit acidity comes back to lengthen the sip into an endless dimension, with distinct savoury and salty flavours. The best sparkling rose I've ever tried, but personally I really enjoy Selosse style. Also, I don't mind the price tag on these wines when this is you what you get. An unforgettable experience, a wine that stays with you forever. Chapeau!

Disgorged 5/19 As usual, needs a good 20mn to blossom (I personally like to decant it). Very subtle oxidative notes for that disgorgement and showing peach and apricot notes rather than the usual mandarin/tangerine zest notes. Great acidity supporting the depth and volume of the wine. Always a great rose.

Disgorged 2015. A bit young. Fruit punch like fresh mixed fruits. Gaining some weight with air and warming with the signature sea breeze minerality and savoury oxidative notes. A long way to go.

Wow! Consumed at a tasting alongside Salon 96, Billecart-Salmon 08 and others. I won't argue that it's "better" than Salon - I'd hate to compare the two. Personally I prefer this one. The nose is about adventure to an extent other producers simply cannot compete with. Not the cleanest. But by god, what a beauty!

My first Selosse and what a beauty, disgorged in 2013. A faint blush in the glass but on the palate an explosion of depth and complexity. Faint hints of strawberries and red fruit. It’s walking a tight rope between oxidative and fresh and does it with aplomb. Made the 1996 Krug tasted alongside it linear, acidic and austere.

17 Decembre 2012. This never really came around. Surely good structure and oxidative profile, but the wine just does not achieve either the depth or complexity expected. Broadness and palate got better with air. 92-93

2008 Disgorged. Lovely pale rose gold. Light nose of whipped cream and fresh berries. Opens to a very broad brioche midpalate and redcurrant on the finish. Young and lovely still.

Seems to be a lot of variation on how I like this wine I assume by the oxidation-disgorged date. This bottle was disgorged Feb 2016. I let it sit for about 30 min to blow off the super almond cake nose - while still present it revealed more blood orange, black tea, cotton candy. Great acidity that tickles together raspberry, sour cream, lime zest and vanilla bean.

(Disgorged in April 2016, based on 2010 and 2009, 96% Chardonnay with 4% of still Pinot from Francis Egly, dosage 2.5 gr/L) Orange colour with a youthfully fresh nose showing yeast, freshly baked bread and nuts together with raspberries and a hint of Tahiti vanilla in the background. Well structured palate, mineral driven with a smooth acidity combined with red berries. The finish is very nice and long with red berries and showing a lovely saltiness on the lips. Excellent showing bottle that was perfect tonight! (Best with 2-10 years of extra cellaring)

(Disgorged in October 2016, base year 2010, 5% Pinot Noir and 95% Chardonnay) Deep golden yellow colour with a stream of fine bubbles. Opens up on the lovely nose showing yeast, freshly baked bread and nuts together with raspberries and a hint of Tahiti vanilla in the background. Well structured palate, mineral driven with a smooth acidity combined with red berries and with a distinct finish showing figs and a touch of sherry. (Best with 2-10 years extra cellaring)

Dinner with Herwig (Heirloom cafe): Disgorged 2016. Aromatic, beautiful nose with some brioche, red apple, slightly oxidative; palate is medium bodied, apple skin, high acid, lovely persistence. A great rose champagne. 94

From a well-cellared bottle that was disgorged October 28, 2014, this medium salmon-colored Champagne was serially sampled over two hours. Sporting a vibrant small bead, it delivers aromas and flavors of strawberries, pit fruits, citrus, bread dough and marzipan. Light notes of oxidation appear on the mid-palate, becoming more prominent on the lengthy back end. While many may prefer this wine in its current state, I would have favored consumption at an earlier date. Those who like a bit of oxidative complexity will find this to be enjoyable for another year or two. Drink now-2022.

Tasting with some crazy geeks (@Private location, Solingen): *** Brief notes for my own memory, no CT rating. Points expressed are only rough guidelines *** My first Selosse Rosé. The New Traditional December 22 Tasting (Anders place): A round yet delicate Champagne with some earthy notes of mushrooms and walnut. Nevertheless red apples and current is also found to makes it fresh and perky. Lean bubble. Selosse is always a pleasure.

Not blind Untypical colour, nose and palate for a Rose. Not that much pinenut as usually with Selosse. Extremly light, reluctant and elegant but with a lot of pressure in the finish. no red berries it is more spicy and Grapefruit notes. 94-95

July 2014 disgorgement. Starts off rather toasty and slightly oxidative. With 45 min of air in glass takes on more tart red berry fruit and a savory quality. Overall rather subdued wine for Selosse but still delicious. Have not had this disgorgement before so unsure on aging curve.

Really enjoyed this bobble, very fine bobbles, brioche and biscuits on the nose are the signature, lovely red fruits on the palate, wish I could have more of this and I would like to try age a few bottles, this was disg. in May 2015

Oeuil de pedrix. Lovely, inviting nose of crushed red fruits mingled with tertiary notes. Certainly not as oxidative, or as much of a stylistic outlier, as many Selosse wines. Lovely weight and balance, this drinks particularly well with food. Stood up to game and foie gras pie... Delicious juice, if not in all honesty, worth the hefty premium over the competition

Deg 2010. Tasted blind, but was my bottle. Bought this second hand recently from a wine store and was worried it would be slightly over the hill - but it was not. Far from. Still on upswing even though the pink color has turned orange. When pouring, people initially thought this was a very old wine until tasted. Then no one was in doubt what producer this was, even though it was tasted blind. 95+

(Disgorged in March 2015, based on 2009, 2008 and 2007 with 8% Pinot Noir and 92% Chardonnay, dosage 2.7 gr/l) Lovely orange colour with a stream of very fine bubbles. This has a wonderful maturity on the nose going from red berries, minerals and hazelnuts over roasted coffee and malts and with more time showing gravels and sea buckthorn, just to end up with a cream and lilac flower scent in a very pleasant way. Equally delicious on the palate with a very nice and intense raspberry minerals acidity before a note of bread comes in on the long lasting finish before a lovely buttery feeling. The added minerals saltiness on the lips is of course a very pleasant touch! This was a really nice showing with a few more years of extra cellaring and it’s hard to decide if this should be had fresh or matured.. both are equally excellent experiences! (Best with 0-9 years extra cellaring)

Compared to what I had last year this bottle (DG 11/17) was more orange without the touches of pink and seemed a little more oxidative rhan the previous bottle but it eventually blew off with a little linger. It was still great but didn’t spark the joy as did last year’s bottle.

A private dinner (Hotel Les Avisés (Jacques Selosse), Avize, France): Disgorged 29 October 2018, from the 2012 and 2013 vintages, 90% Avize Chardonnay and 10% Ambonnay Pinot Noir, 6000 bottles produced. I have relatively little experience with the wines from Jacques Selosse, and that may be because (or why) I sometimes have difficulty understanding the wines. Not so here - maybe because it is expressive and displays real individuality, but perhaps not as oxidative as wines released in previous years reportedly have been? Pale to medium salmon colour, with a hint of copper; the nose is expressive, with bitter orange fruit, and honeyed, vinous and woody notes, with green apple, cocoa and a whiff of fresh nuts in the background; the structured palate displays ample weight of (delicately candied) fruit and excellent density, it is tightly woven and harmonious, with concentrated flavours; very good density and length on the finish. Will probably develop very well over the next 5-10 years.

11th of May 2016 disgorgement. Complex aromatics of strawberry, caramel, earth, bread and stones. It is rich, full and layered. There's a core of vinous sweetness and all sorts of savoury nuance. It has great volume and length.

Comprehensive Selosse (Chicago, IL): Disgorged July 2016. We opened a second bottle of this for dessert. I'll admit, it's not a great pairing with chocolate (but no wine is). Nonetheless, this was pretty much consistent with the apertif bottle -- the intense earthiness and red berries, with chalky intensity and tons of acid on the palate.

Comprehensive Selosse (Chicago, IL): Disgorged July 2016. Just as I remember it. This is probably one of the best bottles of rose champagne in the market to my palate, but it's one that is incredibly stylized. Earthy, oxidative elements on the nose, almost to the point of bitterness (but not quite). It's initially not too expressive -- this is a wine that expands and becomes deeper with air. Lots and lots of acidity that is balanced by the sheer amount of extract in this wine. Concentrated, and almost tannic. Always a pleasure.

22 Top Flight Champagne's for E&R's 20th Anniversary (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Soft, slightly funky aroma, and overall quite perfumey. Soft, sweet, candied fruit is present on the palate, which is rich and smooth. Nice elegance is present. Bitter, sweet fruit attacks on the finish, coupled with some nice minerality. Quite bitter and strong on the mineral fruit as it lingers on the finish.

My bottle. Disgorged june2014. Typical selosse smell and taste. Really good and satisfying, but somewhat sweetish and lacking a bit in acidity to make it more focused and refreshing. For me, the pairing with confit canard was not perfect but others at the table loved it.

Eric's visit to DC - Champagne, White Burgundy, Rhone, Piedmont and etc. (Officina - Washington D.C.): Beautiful perfectly mature sweet nose displaying white peach, apricot, a hint of raspberry soda, strawberry candy, slightly oxidized apple, a hint of sherry, almond cookie, white chocolate, sweet spices and mineral. Very good concentration, subtle sweet yellow fruit with a hint of red, fine mousse, bright acidity, strong limestone mineral and a long sweet yellow and red fruit driven finish with a hint of sherry at the end. This bottle shows a bit more sherry than the last bottle. IMO, Selosse Rose is fully ready when released and there is no significant benefit of cellaring.
Barolo gathering at Officina (Officina - Washington D.C.): Beautiful complex nose displaying sweet yellow fruit with a hint of red, peach, apricot, cherry soda, a hint of whiskey sour, white chocolate, almond cookie, a hint of balsamico, coriander, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, nicely layered apricot and peach, fine generous mousse, bright acidity, strong mineral presence and a long sweet yellow fruit and almond paste driven finish. There is a hint of oxidative/sherry note in the nose but not in the palate. It is quite complex but also easy to enjoy. Excellent showing.

Disgorged in September 2016. Another excellent bottle from Selosse, I can't say enough how much I love his wines, they are just so grippy, lingering and memorable. On the nose, bouquet of red flowers, strawberry, cranberry foam, marmalade, and red cherries mousse, on the palate, opulent red fruits balanced with minerality and good lingering acidity, there was spices into finish too which made it even more complex. Love it.

This was the fifth wine as part of the Champagne flight for the Charleston off-line. Served with low country shrimp boil with white shrimp, artisanal sausage and corn on the cob - wonderful pairing with some great aged champagnes.
Beautiful salmon color with flavors of peach, orange peel and vanilla. Good complexity and acidity. Not as complex as some of the other aged sparklers that night, but a very nice bottle.

Charleston Offlineorama IV; 9/27/2018-10/1/2018 (Charleston, NC (various locations)): 5th/6 champagnes tasted. Disgorged Nov-2015. Very similar to previous outing with this wine last month although I was late to this bottle and only had a very small pour. Color is pale salmon. Fruit leans to strawberry and citrus with a healthy dose of wet stones and then some of the yeasty oxidative notes coming through on the back end. I think the complexity will evolve over time - so remaining bottles need more years of cellar time before popping.

Charleston IV - Return of the Collectible; 9/27/2018-9/30/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): On the heels of a number of very expressive wines this stood out for being a bit closed down (similar to the Krug). It has the oxidized note that I like in this champagne and just a hint of the orange peel and maybe a touch of red fruit, but one had to really concentrate to pull those out. Mostly it was tight. Will let the rest of ours rest for awhile.

Disgorged in November 2007, so probably from grapes around 1996-2002.
An utterly sublime experience, different to any other champagne I have tried. The colour is intoxicating, a beautiful peach with lots of orange. It's light and refreshing, yet still lush and full. Very light bubbles and well balanced. I saved a glass for the morning after and it was still drinking well! Brought by SW to dinner

Syrah from Afar with a Champagne Flight to start (Long Island, NY): Disgorged Nov-2015. What a treat - two bottles of Selosse in one afternoon! The color on this leans more to salmon than pink. Both zippy (with clean acidity, orange/tangerine peel and strawberries) and a bit oxidative at the same time. An elegant and complex Rose - quite special and a pleasure to drink.

An Afternoon in LI w/Friends (Champagne Reception, Syrah from Afar) (Long Island): What a very fun and interesting wine. At first this reminded me of pop rocks although less intense. As you sipped the line it literally seemed to melt in one's mouth. That plus a decent acidity almost gave the impression of gentle pop-rocking. Poured more of an orange color and that seemed to give the impression of some orange peel. Definitely a bit oxidative. Very interesting. Glad we have more.

Selosse Rose (deg. 10/2015) is a crazy Rose. It starts with the colour and nose which have nothing to do with the regular raspberry and strawberry driven juice. The colour is more copper than rose. Thyme, white pepper, cinnamon, towelled orange peel, savoury biscuit. Smoky notes, divinely acidity and ready is a phantastic food concomitant. With time and air stronger and better. 95+

Pale burnt orang with a touch of salmon color. Very fine bubbles and a small dime sized mousse. Sharp nose of persimmon, grapefruit and jasmine.

La Fête de La Paulée in Chicago (Formento's - Chicago IL): Current release. Very rich and concentrated with a Chardonnay-driven character I really enjoy. The Selosse oxidative style is quite pronounced here, and is nicely intriguing with the combination of richness, acidity and minerality from middle to finish. Not my favorite style of Champagne, but certainly well made and easy to appreciate.

La Fête de La Paulée: Super oxidative nose is complex, but not all that appealing. Modest berry aromas trying to show through the oxidation. Palate is more pleasurable with significant density and freshness to the fruit, with no signs of oxidation. Not my preferred style of bubbles.

Group Note: A: Medium orange N: Kelly immediately said butterscotch and we all agreed, dried apricot, peach, toasted almond, honey; the group said it smelled like a dry Sauternes. Fully developed P: Aromas confirmed. Flavor of fruit conserves and even chocolate, as Ken noted, sits long on the finish. Dry, high acidity, medium (+) body, medium alcohol, medium (+) intensity, loooooooooooooonnnnnnng finish C: I had this bottle for so long and such high hopes for it that i decided to watch other people examine it first before i took a sniff. When Eric put his nose over the glass he laughed and i knew we were on to a winner. I think we all enjoyed this wine and the fruit development with aging was a treasure on the nose and palate. Cellar Door Provisions: A remarkable wine. Big. Like really big. And wide. Like oversized-trailer wide. And crunchy. First time trying it - and it's exactly what I'd expect after I heard "Selosse makes a Rose". Can't wait to revisit with more time. (Disgorged July 27, 2014 - thanks @acyso!)

Dinner at Cellar Door Provisions (Chicago, IL): Disgorged July 27, 2014. Another brilliant bottle of champagne -- this was incredibly powerful and rich, with a chewiness that I think is very unique to Selosse's wines. There's certainly a fair bit of oxidation and oak here, and this is one of the heavily wrought rose champagnes that just works. Pairing this with a beet salad with lemon dressing really brought out the red fruits and earth clearly.

Unverkennbar. Eleganz und Druck gehen Hand in Hand. Weiße Blüten, rote Beeren. Präzise und klar in den Aromen. 95+

Bright orange color. Lively mousse with very fine bubbles. Complex aromas of strawberry and apricot, fino sherry and hazelnuts. Rich, intense fruit in the mouth with great depth and length. Very complex and long on the palate with excellent acidity. The typical Selosse oxidative character of the fruit matched beautifully with the Petrossian osetra caviar we enjoyed as part of our 10th anniversary celebration! Disgorged 2/09.

Quite a lot of mature notes but at the same time very fresh and crisp. Not as big and intense as I expected from a bottle of Selosse. Very nice, but the question is whether I will keep buying wines from this estate. The prices has increased quite substantially over the last couple of years. There are a lot of very exciting champagnes around for half the price.

Disgorged 2014-03 Another Selosse, another pleasure. Filled with red apples, artificial raspberry candy, wild strawberrys and a light touch of vanilla. Felt a bit weaker than the Substance and Extra Brut (V.O) and should obviously benefit from 5+ years in the cellar, but I still don't sense the potential in this batch for a (95-96p) since it doesn't develop in the glass as its sisters, but rather fades away. Still a lovely wine.

A blend of two consecutive vintages, fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged in oak barrels and blended with a 5% addition of red wine from Egly-Ouriet. Disgorged on Feb 11th 2015. Annual production 6000 bottles. Served blind.
Pale, orange-tinted honey-yellow color. Ridiculously complex and expressive nose with a stunning array of aromas: roasted nuts, toasty autolysis, smoke, some burnt sugar, a little bit of dark-roasted coffee grounds, a little bit of biscuit, a hint of bacon and charred pork fat and a touch of caramel. The wine is bone-dry yet ripe and weighty on the palate with highly complex and savory flavors of toasty autolysis, ripe citrus fruit, mocha, baked apple, light notes of roasted oats and honey, a little bit of crème brûlée, a hint of chalky minerality and a touch of smoke. Overall the wine shows very vinous and concentrated character, yet isn't heavy or ponderous at all. The mousse feels rich, yet very fine and smooth. The finish is long, steely and powerful with intense, bone-dry flavors of roasted nuts, exotic spices, some oxidative bruised apple character, a little bit of autolytic toast and brioche, a hint of toffee and a touch of smoke.
A real stunner. In a blind tasting of grower Champagnes no wine stood a chance against this. This is a real vinous powerhouse with remarkable structure, depth and power, yet it doesn't come across as a cumbersome, monolithic monster wine, but instead one that is surprisingly light on its feet. As opposed to some other Selosse wines I've had, this showed surprisingly little of that famous "Selosse oxidation" - you could smell and taste that the wine was made oxidatively, but the emphasis here was still on vibrant, bone-dry fruit, nutty autolytic notes and delicate nuances from the barrel aging, not anything noticeably oxidative or any other "Sherried" characteristics, as often described by some critics of the Selosse style. All in all, this was not only the wine of the night (not just for me, but probably for everybody who attended), but also one of the greatest rosé Champagnes I've had. You'd almost not want to like these wines because everybody raves about how great they are, but the fact remains that the wines really are as good as they say. Just wow.

Disgorged May, 2016. Light anber with a glint of salmon. Transient burst of bubbles. Honeyed apple more black cherry, and some floral elements. Medium weight. Just off dry, more red fruit on the palate than the nose, soil but not tremendous minerality, slightly cut off finish. Very good but not as vivacious as prior disgorgements of this wine.

Day 1 in Piedmont (Vietti, Prunotto, & Bartolo Mascarello) (Piedmont, Italy): A stunning bottle of rose - as you come to expect from Selosse. Comprehensive Jacques Selosse dinner (Source by Wolfgang Puck, Washington D.C.): Absolutely decadent nose displaying subtle sweet red fruit, sugar coated raspberry, a hint of cherry, cooper, sherry vinegar, smoke and mineral. Beautifully integrated sweet palate, candied strawberry driven plate impression, bright acidity, good mineral presence and a long sweet finish with copper and mineral as the end notes. Seems more ready than the Lieux-dits Collection BdN bottlings.
Per David White, author of But First, Champagne.
“Dosage: ~4g/l Chardonnay from a pair of older vintages, blended with still Pinot Noir from Egly-Ouriet in Ambonnay. Still wine makes up about 6-10% of the blend. Spends about 5 years on lees.”

disg. 11/19/2007 - Mature Selosse is always a treat. This bottle is in the nice place now, with pinot flavours and a long finish. Strawberries, bread, honey, spicy... The acidity is surprisingly present for a old champagne by Selosse, what make this wine so special in the context of a full body champ. I recommend hold recent disgorgement rose Selosse if you wish to explore the real limit of this elixir. If you can find this champs, buy and start to dream!!! Drink now

DGs Birthday: Disgorged May 2016. Earthy, roses, orange peel, herb, pear and a mineral streak. With a little time there is some of the funk and oxidative notes coming through, but they don't dominate, with the fruit remaining pure but interesting. Delicate flavour on the palate, with a touch of sweetness. All the elements work really well together.

Whistler Wines; 12/31/2016-1/3/2017: Disgorged 2014. Vibrant and energetic nose with apricot and peaches. Salmon berries. Palate has great weight and rich citrus flavors with a lot of slate mineralty. Underripe mango in the very lengthy finish. Delicious drinking.

Rowan and caramel on the nose as well as forward vanilla, acacia and sweet tree bark. High acidity, even pungent at times. High intensity and very fresh when young.

From Feb 2015 disgorgement. Really superb--great lift, depth, and energy (the most of any of his wines). Would think this would show more with another few years of development but an elegant and beautiful wine now.

SLDS December 2016: d/g October 2015. Cherry, earthy, spice, bready notes, sea spray. Honeyed palate, layers of spice and earth. Still really fresh, great length, vibrant but complex. Really savoury and excellent character.

Disgorged February, 2015. Full pink. Wow, a Selosse rosé bursting with tart strawberry fruit and life. A tad more dosage than I usually find in these wines. This bottle was an absolute delight.

This was the first wine in a spectacular horizontal tasting of different Selosse Champagnes. Dég. October 2011. I am usually not the biggest fan of rosé Champagne (or any rosé for that matter) but boy is this good. Explosive aromatics of orange zest, vanilla, sweet spices, some dried red fruits, nuts, honey, minerals and also some oxidative notes (like in most of Selosse's wines). It's full bodied, dense but with amazing tension and still medium+ acidity, small perfect bubbles. Excellent length. A great and complex rosé Champagne of the very highest level. Some in our group liked it a little less than I did, but everybody agreed that is was excellent quality. Drink now.

From memory, @ Mugaritz. Our 3rd champagne. Deg. 05/04/16. A more delicate champagne than I had expected. The Selosse trademarks are there, but they are more soft spoken than in his whites. I liked it, though perhaps the dosage was higher than what I prefer. Guess this should have had some more bottle time before really being judged. 91p

Mostly domestic wine dinner (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner): Another decadently delicious showing. Shy red fruits, raspberry and cherry, perfectly ripe peach, a hint of sherry, plum sauce, smoke and mineral. Excellent concentration, decadent jammy red fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity, excellent mineral presence and lovely long sweet finish. This really is a crowd pleaser. Unlike Dom or Cristal rose, I don’t see the reason to age this.

Close at the beginning and need a few hours bottle breathe to show potential. Red fruit, signature oxidiative style, minerals and very balance. Complex with very long finish

Pop and poured. Drank over a few hours. At B&B PP. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, uniquely orangey salmon colour. Legs. Very persistent fine frothy bubbles. Nose is clean, medium+ almost pronounced intensity, with aromas of bready yeast and floral perfume. With more air, the breadiness and yeastiness dominates and hits you up the nostrils. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), medium body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red plums, tart strawberry, more bready yeast. Incredibly long, laser sharp, rapier-on-the-tongue finish. With more air, nuttiness emerges through the bread and yeast. Outstanding quality. This is light on the mid-palate, but is so focused on the attack, and such a lengthy persistent finish. Very clearly an outstanding Rose champ. This bottle was disgorged 14 December 2012. Blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit from Ambonnay.

[IWFS-Vic Top Burgundy Grand Crus Dinner at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Melbourne] Very pale straw color, faint pink tinge; moderately vigorous mousse, not very persistent minuscule beads. Bready nose over quite tight grapefruit nectarine bouquet with hints of mineral, limestone, dried flowers, white peach, lemon peel, spice & toast. Medium plus weight, quite deep, intense, fresh, mineral- & chalk-inflected citrus & stone fruits with the faintest hint of oxidation and initially with a touch of bitterness that rapidly ameliorated with aeration; traces of chalky extracts & lots of fine acidity enhance the sharply focused wine with extra textural dimension while maintaining excellent harmony. Long acid-freshened finish.

Blind Tasting mainly Californian Reds: Raspberry, nuts, almonds, fine forrest strawberries, in the nose typical oxidative style, but in the palate much fresher and a crispy acidity, later roasted macadamia nuts, not a typical Rose, both colour and taste, some herbal notes and orange peels in the long clean finish, 93-94

Some Wines from a Swing Through France-Paris, Chablis, and Champagne; 4/1/2016-4/9/2016: Disgorged July, 2015. More fennel and others herbs on the nose than red fruit-very different from the bottle the other night that was disgorged in 2014. After an initial impression of medium weight, relatively light and delicate with zesty acidity and lemon. Blossoms strawberry flavors over time to complement the interesting herbaceousness. Rising mineral finish. I didn't like this quite as much as the earlier bottling, but one cannot deny its interest and complexity.

Some Wines from a Swing Through France-Paris, Chablis, and Champagne; 4/1/2016-4/9/2016: Disgorged April, 2014. Light salmon color. Only lightly effervescent. Exuberant aromatics of pure strawberry, tangerine, and less herbal essence. The attack here is amazing, just so intense for the medium weight of the wine and full of zingy acidity and all things mineral. Then some creaminess, black cherry, and tannic bite. What a singular wine, so alive and dynamic. Sure to improve, but hard to resist now even with its more rough hewn edges.

Very memorable. Style was savory with some subtle oxidation on the finish. Went great with whatever we threw at it from yuzu scallops to beef tartar to a middle eastern style sweet potato preparation . For sure a food wine but very versatile. Disgorged 2012 if I recall correctly.

Was so carried away with the Piemonte wines that I somehow forgot to note this last night. Disgorged September, 2013. Deep yellow color with very little to suggest rose. Not much of a mousse and similarly, not a lot of aroma at first, then a trace of herbs and apple cider. Full bodied, some of that Selosse oxidative quality, good back end minerality. A curious showing-just not as alive and interesting as wines from this producer usually are.

Guigal La La dinner (Eddie V's): Only a slight hint of pink, copper color. The oxidative style is closer to substance than initial. Pale but ripe red fruits, strawberry jam, rose, a hint of va, burnt sugar and mineral. Very rich sweet palate, sweet and sour sauce, mineral, bright acidity and long finish. Very interesting and unique expression of Rose.

Mixed emotions on this. Quite complex, not sure I would have guessed rosé, as this offers such a wide and complex palate. Not sure I could drink a whole bottle of this. I also have some doubts about the solera technique. Chemistry or not? Anyway, very good and quite interesting.

Salmon, leaning toward brownish-orange, in color. Rose, candied strawberry, almond skin, and citrus peel are some of the lifted, sexy aromas that blossom from the glass. Slightly oxidative per Selosse's style, but just barely, with an impressive freshness. Complex, with floral and mineral flavors on the palate. This is a great Champagne. (Disgorged 12 February 2014)

dégorgée à 18 octobre 2009 - definitely mineral and salty plum nose, very yeasty... almost like what you'd get from a freshly steamed Chinese bun (包子). Nose was also initially a little strong, not quite pungent. Very nice on the palate with a pretty long finish.

20 Sep 2011 Disgorgement and second encounter with this wine, first being 2 yeras ago and rated 91. Copper pink in colour. Definitely not austere any more, quite open, yeast, rich nose and well round. No sharp edges anymore and this definitely felt 10yrs old+. Had that feeling that its past its vibrant youth and we suggest that one drinks it sooner than later. Still though pretty solid stuff and definitely and wine of quality, savory, yeasty and with a good mineral feel. Very good but not sure worth 200£.. 92-93 and drink now (for this 20 Sep 2011 Disgorgement)

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Disgorged November 9, 2012. Quite a bit of funk on this guy. Ripe stone fruit and strawberries on the nose and palate. The oak clearly shows, but it's very well-integrated with the intense acidity and minerality. This definitely has a good oxidative character, but this maintains its freshness immensely well. The acidity has a real teeth-stripping quality about it.

Lives up to the praise. One of the best sparkling roses I've ever had. Rich without being overbearing, incredibly complex. Only complaint was there must have been a small leak in the bottle because the liquid disappeared.

A very unique wine, degorged in 2014. One the nose: strawberries, honey, brioche, and cranberries. The oxidative style is very reflective in the balance and long finish of the wine. A thought provoking wine that will leave you yearning for more.

La Paulee Dinner at Recette (Recette): Disgorged 25 October 2011. A little funky, touch of reduction? Orange/grapefruit citrus, light red berries, very earthy, very light bubbles, a vinous style of rose. Doesn't make much palate impact but then has sneaky, extraordinary length. Very interesting wine that I had trouble fully understanding.

Disgorged May 2011. My first ever Selosse Rose, and although it was a great wine, I am slightly disappointed as I expected something fantastic. Disgorged October, 2012. Salmon skin color, very gentle mousse. Aromas of yellow apple and strawberry. Lush texture with perceptible sweetness. Dominant, incredibly alive apple and ginger flavors with a touch of toasted brioche. After the rich entry, precise, fine and stony on the finish. An absolute wonder and without a doubt, one of the best and most unique roses I have ever drunk. This worked marvelously with a diverse set of dishes.

Gyllen ferskenfarget.

Youthful and tight and as a result somewhat tough to fully judge at this point. Aromas of roses. Very minerally. Firmly acidic - palate needs time to mellow out. Still impressive but I think this will benefit from more time in bottle. Disgorge 10/11/12. 93+

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): 2010 disgorgement. Beautiful pale copper colour. This is a beast of a rose. Layers and layers of complexity, with initial notes of hazelnut and dried mushrooms, followed by undertones of ripe red fruit. The palate is overwhelmingly complex with layers and layers of nuttiness. Somehow very light and fine on its feet, but intense density and concentration. This is likely the most acidic champagne I've ever had, but I just can't get enough of it.

Disgorged late 2010. Very light pinkish hue. This is thr 3rd time trying this wine all different disgorgements. The nose of this particular bottling is simply amazing, with a lovely floral tone like standing in the middle of a garden full of white flowers, I can just smell this all night. Palate is lovely as well, slightly toasty and yeasty, dense and fine mousse, finish with lots of minerality. Not the typical rose but a very lovely and entertaining version of it.

France 2013 - Côte d'Or; 4/20/2013-4/23/2013 (Beaune): Light copper colour. Disgorged May 16, 2012 – great nose. Earthy nose of mushroom, red apples, cranberries with beautiful savory notes too. Energetic and linear on the palate with great acidity and a tart and powerful finish. This offers a lot of muscle yet remains perfectly balanced and precise. As this sat in the glass it became my favorite wine of the evening. A Brilliant Rose.

The Champagnes of Jacques Selosse (Roberson Wine, South Ken, London): Disgorged 20Sep2011. 90% Chardonnay / 10% Pinot still wine added Light nose, surprisingly austere. Probably the most austere, mineral rose champagne we have come across, acidic, very dry and sharp. This will last for many years to come, although not sure how it evolves from here. Not our style and not sure it justifies the ~£170 price tag though. 90-91 from us

Disgorged late 2011. Light salmon. Lively mousse. Intense, vivid strawberry joined by pear-like fruit with faint nuttiness. Medium weight but juicy, great finishing minerality. This proved to be a good red wine substitute for an undrinkable red Burgundy. Unbelievably delicious.

As good as always. Disgorged on June 2008, explosive nose with ripe red fruit, pink grapefruit and blood orange. It constantly evolves. Saline notes appears with time, then a little earthy notes and later on subtle minerality. Some herbs as well. Oak is there, totally integrated both on the nose and palate and used perfectly to complete the wine. There's a very good acidity to cut through the full body and wonderful and precise bitters on the finish give the wine a perfect balance. Very vinous and Burgundian.

Salmon color with a leesy, biscuity nose. Upon initial opening, quite tight, angular, austere, very dry and wine-like...like Burgundy with bubbles. Filled out with air and after warming a bit in the glass, becoming more aromatic (red apples, bread dough, gingerbread) and more balanced, with the acidity becoming better integrated. Full-bodied but at the same time light on its feet, with a fine mousse, and a long, steely finish. My first Selosse, and an interesting experience for sure. Not sure I would pay the prices they command in the US, but worth what I paid in France.

Onion peel to rosa. Wide nose of peachy fruit and strawberries with butter, maccadamia, chestnuts. Dry, medium bodied and refreshing palate with creamy smooth moussé and zesty cut. Peach, watermelon, blood orange, citrusy freshness and slight bitter touch. Balanced buttery oak, some toast and long minerally finish. A very fine complex and delicious rosé. Quirky in a nice way.

Finally got to open one of these- long story- and absolutely worth the wait. Opens with a chocolate nose and a unique selosse rose color. In the mouth not a lot of effervescence but it's weight stands out- simply because this is thicker thus heavier. Let it breathe in the glass through the meal and yes this opened up the canopy to amazing complexity. It's closer to the substance as an utterly gorgeous expression of the winemaker. For the adventurous and may not please those that find yellow label their thing. This ain't kids stuff. 10/2008 disgorge

Degad 2010.

In a league of its own. Disgorged October 2008. Powerful and very complex nose. A lot going on with floral notes, small red fruit, blood orange. Salty notes both on the nose and palate. Alcohol :: 12.5% Light salmon pink. Unique & seductive nose of green fruits and peel, balonglong, touch of oxidative, funky notes that suggested a very fresh aromas tones. With time sweet red cherry and strawberry aromas evolved. Fine persistent moose caressing the palate gently, leading to very smooth, lightly toasted flavor profile of mushroom, green leaves, green apple all wrap in a soft texture, elegance package that leads to long persistent finish with mineral, light toast with honey aftertaste. Fresh, vibrant and precise with good mid palate sap however this lack of the tension and power for a Selosse to me, or Maybe this is the style for Rose?

Simple Series Dinner 2 (Huat Kee): Pinkish. Yeasty on the nose but I don't get much fruit both on the nose and palate. Rather lean and austere. Not showing very well today though the persistence was pretty amazing. My score gives this the benefit of the doubt that this will transform into a swan with some age as this is really a technically perfect wine.

2011 Simple Series II: Henry's Dinner (Huat Kee, Amoy Street): A really unusual Rosé. Still painfully young - this was only disgorged in 2009, and this took some time in the glass to really get going. A light salmon pink in colour, the nose showed lightly oxidative notes, with a hint of savoury, fino sherry like scents, some meat, lots of earth, red apples, cherries and touch of herbs and lentils. There is probably quite a bit of Chardonnay in the cepage, but somehow this comes across with rather red-Burg-like hints on the nose. The palate had beautiful acidity framing what were initially fresh green fruit flavours of lime and green appples lined with some fruit peel. Fine and very elegant, but a bit austere at first. With time though, the wine really opened up to show sweet lemon and cherry notes, with hints of white meat both on the nose and the palate. Quite a bit of power, yet it always remained very focused and perfectly balanced. Finish was very fine, with zippy acidity carrying savoury mineral and lime peel notes away into the distance. Very nice - reminded me a little bit of Egly-Ouriet's style, but less muscular and perhaps a little more elegant. A strong start to the night.

Dinner with Charles (Washington, D.C.): June, 2007 disgorgement. Hard to describe its pale color which is more copper than pink. Less frothy than the Substance. Melon and strawberries on the nose. A very powerful rose (April 2009 dégorgement), which I think matters. A slight acrid/bitter afternote, but with a nose of strawberries, a hint of ripe red fruits, and a lovely light colour. Full bodied, long in mouth, with a straw-like flavour in mid-mouth. Not at all like most rosé champagne (even B-S, or Egly, which have much more finesse).

Disgorged: Feb09 93% Chardonnay (from Avize, Oger, and Cramant), and 7% Pinot Noir from Ay. Now this is just incredibly complex and amazingly balanced champagne. Beautiful orange tinged salmon coloring. It's yeasty, smokey, filled with red grapefruit, mint, notes of blue cheese, orange zest, lots of minerality, plenty of bitterness, and a spicy citrus finish. As it warms and opens the flavors intensify, it's more aggresive and it comes together even more.

Served in white wine glasses, this was an aromatic bombshell of roses, soft cranberries, strawberries and cherries, all wrapped in a thin layer of dough that helped soften things a bit. Disgorged only six months ago, nose screams CO2 at first so bottle left to one side to calm down. Very pure ripe berry fruit sitting aside clean citrus, not an oidative wine. However this was dominated by very clean fresh oak, like a new barrel, nothing nutty or oxidative but shiny oak. Will no doubt integrate over the coming months.

Selosse Champagne (Blue Hill): Not much to say about this one. It's a little more flowery than the blanc de noirs with a similar hint of confection. Nothing wrong here but it's also a reserved personality difficult to get a read on.

Anselme Selosse is becoming quite the cult figure in Champagne. Its hard to find much info on him on the net, but I did read that the red wine for this rosé was sourced from Egly Ouriet...( I will admit that the power and concentration of this wine did remind me of the Egly's I have consumed) Lets talk color first. A very unusual mandarin organge color with copper hints. very "shiny" Brilliant! Very unusual on the nose - hints of summer fruit, mandarin, apricot, quince and some toasted nuts. On the palate this is a very full-bodied Champagne. Its easy to forgot that its sparkling due to the weight and complexity. Their were hints of physallis, and some sweet notes that reminded me of some sweet tokaj wines even thought this Champagne was very dry. Some hints of Oak, but very well-integrated. Some hints of Oxidation which reminded me of flor (sherry). It continued to evolve as time went on and even as the temp warmed to room temperature, it remained composed and full-bodied. This is an unforgettable Champagne with great complexity and length. Anselme Selosse recommends decanting his Champagnes, and in this case it might of helped air out this huge wine. If you find a bottle, pick it up!

Bibenda Day 2007 (AIS, Parco dei Principi, Rome): Pretty pinkish orange colour. On nose, spicy, fruit cocktail, overly ripe (rotting) fruit, oxidized, vomitus. On palate, sharply acidic, autolysed yeast, a little vomitus. Funny-tasting stuff. Odd/unique. The guy beside me loved it and it was his WOTF. My worst of the flight, yet most other Selosse Champagnes I have loved.

(Café Annie, Houston) An airline bump created an opportunity for a very nice lunch at Café Annie. This bottle was a nice way to start the holidays. Very nice nose with a slight sourdough and lemon curd notes. Good vinous body with the bubbles. Definite red wine feel to the wine as well, but light and clean. A touch of cranberry, slight smokiness and citrus peel elements. Very crisp finish with structure and elegance. Absolutely perfect with shrimp terrine, tortilla soup, venison sausage and quail and cheeses. A whole bottle = Merry Xmas to me!

Enjoyed with antipasta. Pale gold. Nose of woody mushrooms, biscuits, and grass. Very tactile and almost chewy on the palate, with winey, yeasty texture and real presence on the tongue. Nice.

Not to be too harsh, but this was probably my least favorite Champagne I've had in a while. Woody (pine?) with a very winey profile. Lacked freshness. Paled in comparison to the N/V Billecart-Rose that followed. Purchased in Epernay for 38 Euros.

Nose: white flowers, wild berries, red fruits, hints of rose
Notes: 12.5% ABV, 1.33g dosage, disgorged in 2023 June, 94 % Chardonnay and 6% Pinot Noir.

(Disgorged May 2nd 2022, base year 2016 with reserves from 2015 and 2014, approx. 92-95% Chardonnay with 5-8% added still red wine from Ambonnay, dosage 1,5 gr/l)
Always such a lovely nose showing wild strawberries, freshly baked bread and minerals and with some time in the glass opens up with hazelnut and milk chocolate. Pleasant lime zest bitterness on the palate combined with minerals before the cream takes over on the mid to late where a cherry stone bitterness takes over. Leaving a delicious minerals saltiness on the lips as well, just perfect!

Jacques Selosse Rose NV
Nose: red date, honey, rose, dried fig
Notes: Disgorged 2021.

Great rosé.

With four years post-disgorgement ageing, it is a perfect peak. There is something magical about this wine, that really sets it apart from any other Champagne rosé. It exists in itself and by itself. Love it

Disgorged in March 2021. Floral nose with strawberry, brioche, orange, and lemon notes. It's both delicate and complex. There is nice acidity on the palate with more lemon, orange, and mineral flavors, as well as an interesting red berry note. Long finish. Awesome Champagne!

The palate is full displaying fleshy textures, balancing acidity and a fine bubble structure. Flavors translate completely to the palate with the bruised and oxidized peach notes, muddled strawberry, pine nuts, rose hip, biscuit, almond meal, saline and chalk dust. the finish lingers effortlessly

Chapeau!

Lovely orange colour with a stream of very fine bubbles.

An utterly sublime experience, different to any other champagne I have tried. The colour is intoxicating, a beautiful peach with lots of orange. It's light and refreshing, yet still lush and full.

Group Note:
A: Medium orange
N: Kelly immediately said butterscotch and we all agreed, dried apricot, peach, toasted almond, honey; the group said it smelled like a dry Sauternes. Fully developed
P: Aromas confirmed. Flavor of fruit conserves and even chocolate, as Ken noted, sits long on the finish. Dry, high acidity, medium (+) body, medium alcohol, medium (+) intensity, loooooooooooooonnnnnnng finish
C: I had this bottle for so long and such high hopes for it that i decided to watch other people examine it first before i took a sniff. When Eric put his nose over the glass he laughed and i knew we were on to a winner. I think we all enjoyed this wine and the fruit development with aging was a treasure on the nose and palate.

Another Selosse, another pleasure.

Just wow.

“Dosage: ~4g/l
Chardonnay from a pair of older vintages, blended with still Pinot Noir from Egly-Ouriet in Ambonnay.

Drink now.

Rising mineral finish. I didn't like this quite as much as the earlier bottling, but one cannot deny its interest and complexity.

What a singular wine, so alive and dynamic. Sure to improve, but hard to resist now even with its more rough hewn edges.

Stor konsentrasjon, full body, flott friskhet som gjør at det ikke blir vulgært.
Fullt trøkk hele veien, og en særs lang finish.
En rose som ikke ligner på noe annet jeg har smakt.

Light nose, surprisingly austere. Probably the most austere, mineral rose champagne we have come across, acidic, very dry and sharp. This will last for many years to come, although not sure how it evolves from here. Not our style and not sure it justifies the ~£170 price tag though. 90-91 from us

Ganska hård syra och kanske mer mousse i rosé än i de andra vinerna från honom. Syran är inte helt integrerad ännu, det här är förstår ett barnarov och den är inte lika sammansatt som den 2010 degade jag drack för ett tag sedan.

Light salmon pink.

Anselme Selosse is becoming quite the cult figure in Champagne. Its hard to find much info on him on the net, but I did read that the red wine for this rosé was sourced from Egly Ouriet...( I will admit that the power and concentration of this wine did remind me of the Egly's I have consumed)
Lets talk color first.
