At Wine Group Dinner 203, Harveys Bistro - 2009 Left Bank. This opened very well with a deep golden colour with copper edges and a rich nose of blood orange, apricot conserve, pineapples and leatherwood honey. The palate has beautiful richness and purity with a lovely persistent finish of toast, butter and leatherwood honey that covers a spine of citrus acidity that is perhaps a little softer than previous bottles. Overall this is a delicious bottle of Sauternes.

Great wine, from a half bottle. Lots of complexity and depth of flavor. Honey, white chocolate and caramel. Nectarine, pear and bloodorange. Almonds, oats and buttery cookiedough. Exquisite balance, luscious sweetness, fresh acidity and spicy bitterness. Deeeelicious now!

From .375ml. Amber colour, stored in bond, cork good. Subtle aromas - all the action was on the palate. The first thing to hit me was the viscosity - liquid heaven. Honey, honey, honey, orange marmalade, caramel, apricot. Long complex and so so enjoyable. This was my first entry into the world of Sauternes but definitely not my last. My recently purchased case is half full now. It has been very hard to resist drinking this wine.

Coravin from a 750ml. Aromas or honeysuckle, apricot, orange marmalade, nutmeg, bees wax and toasted almond. Apricot, orange marmalade, nutmeg, toasted almond and bees wax on the palate. Very long finish with excellent acidic balance. Served with bourbon bread pudding.

This is the second one we’ve had. It’s good but a bit disappointing compared to the other Sauternes we’ve been drinking. The nose is caramel and cotton candy. The wine has nice viscosity but it’s a bit over sweet and not enough acid to balance. I compare this to the 2009 Rieussec and IMO it’s not close.

92-93 .. Light golden amber color, aromas of peach skin, honey, orange blossom meet the palate as well, additional notes of caramelized sugar, apricot, orange zest. Nice acidity still, not cloying or over saturating. In a really great spot.

Drinking very nice already (especially considering I usually don't care much for the caramelized orange taste that aged Sauternes can have. Caramel, honey, tropical fruit, viscous texture, good acidity and balanced sweetness, slightly noticeable high alcohol.

Hyacinth Dinner (Hyacinth, St. Paul, MN): Surprisingly dark gold color - especially from 750ml. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Advanced, unctuous, quite spicy, orange creamsicle, mango, baked apricot, a bit weighty. Very good, but this bottle was seemingly further along than expected. 92-93pts.

A Medlar lunch (Medlar, London): Mid to full straw. Gorgeously fresh and ripe nose. Tropical elegance with nothing barley sugared or heavy. A vanilla and cream depth on the palate cut through with the tropical fruit and good line. Superb balance. This is really lovely. *****

Gold in color. Quite closed aromatically and offers up hints of honeysuckle, nectarines and yellow florals. Quite lush, fat and viscous on the palate with waves of ripe orange citrus fruits and a long sweet finish. I was looking for more, wonder if this is going through a closed phase?

Half. This showed better than a couple of years ago, and in fact was bloody brilliant, like treacle sponge and grilled pineapple distilled together into a weightless, ambrosial drink. Super match for sticky toffee pudding, both food and wine very sweet but somehow merging into a complete whole rather than a cloying mess. More please!
Absolute crazy intensity on the nose with caramel and honey along with distinct pineapple and other, mixed tropical notes. As pretty as the nose is today, I expect it will show more distinct complexity in future years. Between medium and full bodied (14% ABV) with both depth of fruit and even viscosity. Both white and especially yellow pineapple were quite evident, supported by mango, yellow peach and yellow apple. Behind these fruit notes were nuts and caramel qualities as well as honey, and these elements in turn, contrasted with and supported by tart citrus and excellent acidity as well as very good overall structure.
As compared to the 2001, the 2009 doesn't have quite the complexity, depth or nuance of that wine, but it's actually reasonably close. I'd agree with the general consensus that currently places the 2009 in the #2 position behind only the 2001 in terms of vintages over the past 25 years from this winery. As well as it showed tonight, it's also clearly still young, with significant upside potential. I've very excited to open my next bottle in July 2024, again alongside the 2001 and will continue to do this ongoing comparison for the next decade.

First bottle of 3, from different sources. PnP. With airing, amazing nose. Mid weight. Incredible balance. Superb. (96). Day 2: More viscous, concentrated butterscotch. Awesome. (96-97).

An Exploration of 2009 St. Emilions (plus a few bonuses) (Los Olivos, CA): Non-blind, from a 375. Not the best showing, at least when compared to another bottle tasted a few years ago. Fresh pear compote and a touch of caramel, but lacking bite as well as density and complexity. There must be some real bottle variation going on here, as another one we left unopened was much darker in appearance despite consistent storage.

Brilliant golden yellow in color. Aromas of orange-nectarine oil, florals, vanilla and honeysuckle. An unctuous palate reveals viscous and very sweet nectarine marmalade, botrytis spice, good acidity and a very long peacock tail finish.

Pineapple, passion fruit and quince jelly. Rich aroma. Thick and oily on the palate, but with a tangy nice acidity to prop it all up. Slight sense of creaminess or vanilla but not overbearing. Great.

1985 Bordeaux Horizontal - London (Noizé, London): Charred pineapple with freshly squeezed lime on the nose here. Some passion fruit too, some light honey and some some white flowers, acacia? There is also a lovely fresh chamomile infusion character. And the texture. A great Sauternes year and a top chateau. Lovely.

Coravined a few weeks ago and PNP’d on this night. Tons of honey and apricot. Luscious, sweet palate, with nice acidity. Might be ever so slightly past its prime.
Just a beautiful rendition of this! Sweet, no too viscous, honeycomb and orange blossom and bees wax. A beautiful, non cloying, non overly sweet dessert wine. This has a very classic Sauterne nose and feel to it. Clean orange marmalade.....white flowers......apricot. Extremely nice.....

Nice wine from 375ml bottle but by no means a stunner as some pro’s have scored it, in my view. Certainly not 97-98 or 18.5-19 points. It has pretty good acidity but not extremely high and shows grilled apricot and banana liqueur. Moderately long on the finish but not lingering. Solid and pretty well priced but not deserving rave reviews based on this bottle.

Pop & pour from a 375 mL. Much darker in tone, like a very evolved 2007 also from 375 mL. In addition to the higher residual sugar, plentiful and exuberant botrytis compared to other vintages. Medium acidity and somewhat lacking in body around mid palate, so it doesn’t have great legs or finish. Some gingery spice notes that keeps the sweetness barely in check. Good to try, but the dominant botrytis and higher sugar content, with lighter body is not compelling enough for me at this stage. Vanilla and creme brulee notes appear earlier on.

A glorious wine that will definitely benefit with ageing as though it ticks all the boxes in terms of balance, acidity, sweetness and richness I just feel it is a little one dimensional and could be more complex. Colour a glorious Light gold. Overall all a cut above the 2010.

Wow, this is just so beautifully balanced and elegant. Concentrated but with freshness and vibrancy. Tinned peach, minerals, flowers, nectarine, vanilla, hint of pineapple. It's sweet but not overly so. Certainly benchmark stuff in 2009.

From 375ml. PnPed. OK, this is going to need some time to loosen up, but it's very nice now. Potent and sharp and sweet nose - spicy, chili peppers, orange peel, kumquat, vanilla, creme brulee, marmelade. Definitely Marzipan (from Rossi's note - thanks!) Palate is sweet, spicy and intoxicating. It's got a lot of sugar, but the alcohol and the acid balance it - the acid doesn't do it alone and it's not racy for sure. This is a brusier compared to the 01. A little heat on the palate. The creme brulee drives into the finish with the spiciness adding complexity - it's long and smooth with sweetness and creaminess. Eating some Guyere brings out flavors of almond paste. This is delicious and hits lot of pleasure centers, but it is just a bit much for me at this point. Maybe 2 steps below the 01, but hey, what wine isn't? Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 17-17.5/20.

I don’t have much experience with Sauternes and my go to desert wines have always been Canadian ice wines so that is what I was comparing this with. It lacked that certain depth of flavors that I enjoy in ice wine. We served it to guests after dinner and we didn’t get much praise for the wine.

Mid-yellow, almost gold in colour. Quite rich, with honey and apricot, full and quite long. The acidity seems to be on the low side, and the wine seems to be fully ready. A fine Sauternes, which should keep for a while, but may be best drunk now.

First 1/2 bottle of 12 I have opened. Powerful on the nose and thick and rich on the palate but very surprisingly low in acid. Very sugary and loaded with caramel. And also surprising almost no citrus notes. Definitely in an odd spot. Hands off for another 5 years.

Intense nose, full of honey and mango. Very, very enjoyable on its own. I tried it next to the ‘09 Yquem. Side by side, the Suduiraut felt cloying, thinner, hot. Effortlessly outmatched.

New Offline Venue Recce Dinner @ Blacklock City; 9/15/2021-9/16/2021: Apparently 2009 was considered a good vintage for Sauternes and based on this I totally get it. Ready to drink, great balance of sweetness and acidity. A bit of butterscotch, a bit of apricots. 1/6 of a 1/2 bottle was just the right way to end a lovely dinner.

Crisp yellow-orange in glass. Nose of honey and quince and palate of honey and spiced fruits. Tighter and more 'together' than other 2009 Sauternes I have tried - resulted in a slightly less complex experience with fewer layers to taste and explore.
Surprisingly little acidity/citrus notes. Didn't feel quite so mature at this stage. Still enjoyable but one I'd like to return to after a bit more time in bottle.

At Brisbane Club private dinner. This wine completed the meal and stole the show in a strong line-up with a deep ruby gold colour and a gorgeous nose of apricot, candied cumquat, bitter orange, quince paste and leatherwood honey. The palate is entirely luxurious following the lead of the nose in its flavour spectrum yet also being distinguished by its unctuous texture and touches of honey and butter toast before a refreshing farewell of acidity and matiere based grip. Truly delicious. Up there with Yquem and Climens in 2009.

I bought this as the Chateaux was mentioned in passing in Brideshead Revisited and Evelyn Waugh was a renowned wine lover. I opted for the ‘09 as a critically acclaimed year. Suduiraut lives up to the (hushed) hype. Viscous honey, peach, pear and sunshine in a glass. Let’s hope the investors don’t discover it as although it’s not cheap it is tremendous value compared to Yquem (now the Bitcoin of Sauternes). Yum.
Explosive bouquet of lush honey, tropical fruits, citrus, toasted oak. Yummy. Deep golden color. On the palate great acidity with flavors of pineapple, mangoes, honey, spices. Deep, concentrated and harmonious. This one just keeps going. Saving the rest for many years ahead.

Upon opening, a rush of tropical flowers exuded from the bottle. Beautiful burnished gold color. Pineapple, mango, and citrus on palate with a slight hint of salinity. Strong acidity to balance a very high level of sweetness, not cloying, but sweet like a perfectly ripe peach.
Honey in a bottle. Blinded but clear Sauterne. A hint of almond/nuttiness starting to come out. I guessed early 2000 Suduiraut. Got the producer, but missed on the vintage. Could use a touch more acidity for balance, but overall it's honey in a bottle, so certainly enjoyable.
Informal dinner, no detailed notes taken. Very pleasant wine full of clean boytritis and stone fruits. I like the freshness and focus here. Very clean lines and a weightless texture. Overall, this young, not yet interesting enough to reach the 95+ points category but it can certainly get there.
Anything Goes (Zoom): Poured/sealed in 5 individual jars and consumed 3 hours later via zoom. This is monumentally better than the bottle I opened in 2017. Creamy and sweet creme brulee stands out, along with apricot, ripe citrus, honey and spice.

Wine Notes: 2009 Suduiraut - This wine was a very pleasant surprise for me. I have always considered Suduiraut an inconsistent producer, even in good vintages. However, they knocked it out of the park with 2001, and this 2009 effort, while not quite up to 2001 standards, was equally impressive! Nose showed slight petrol, which blew off quickly, revealing orange and peach flowers on the nose, with hint of toasted oak. The palate had plenty of fruit and acid, in perfect balance with vanilla orange cream (dreamsicle) dominating and stone fruit with some hints of sweet oak lurking in the background. This was certainly drinking well, and, IMO, a wine worth seeking out. Suduiraut certainly offers an outstanding value when they are on, and their 2009 Sauternes is certainly on! 95 points with no reservation! It will be interesting to see how this develops down the road!

Virtual Holiday Wine Tasting (Home): Medium dark gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. This was very bright, orange, nectarine, white flowers, star fruit and subtle vanilla on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, youthful and energetic, zippy acid, lighter citrus notes, tangerine, nectarine, star fruit and kumquat with touches of vanilla bean and nearly absent spice notes. This was drinking great in the early 10 year sweet spot for young Sauternes. I just happened to have the '01 open from the other day to drink side by side. I'm even more impressed now by the depth, complexity, and nuances of the '01 when drinking them in comparison. And while not a fair fight, a fun comparison, and it is a reflection of where they are on their evolutionary path. The '09 has ways to go to catch the '01 yet, though it has the time to try. I'll bet on the '01 for the long haul.

Knockout! Nose with candied apples and botrytis, palate adds dried apricot, ripe citrus, and honey. Very sweet, but far from cloying thanks to balancing acidity, a mineral savoriness, and some citrus peel bitterness adding to the depth, rising on the long finish. Just lovely.

disturbingly advanced but enjoyable bits of "age" brought to otherwise mediocre drinking Sauternes. dumb phase? house style? who knows. I honestly don't and admit that
if you want good middle of the road sauternes without the vibrancy of youth or profundity brought by age... this checks those boxes and you should DRINK NOW.
Drank over 2 nights from a 375 mL bottle. The first night was absolutely incredible and reminded me of cotton candy (not in a bad or overly sweet way but more in a "fluffy" way if that makes sense). A touch of honey and apricot as well. If I was basing my score on just the first night I'd likely have been a couple of points higher. On the second night was still great but the lack of acidity mentioned in others comments was a bit more noticeable and gave the wine a flatter taste. All told though still fantastic.

This wine is definitely sweet and definitely rich but the lack of acidity makes it seem flabby. It is like unseasoned food that needs a bit of salt to wake up the flavor. This needs acidity to bring into focus the underlying flavors of honey and apricot that now seem blurry and faded.
Pale amber with a soft creamy palate with sweet apples and currants, like an apple strudel with double cream in a glass. Acidity less prominent than I recall last time but balance is good but not as fresh and bright.Tasted on day 2 and, on reflection and a bit of research, I think this bottle has some premox, not something I’ve experienced with this wine before. Still enjoyed it but not the heights of a perfect bottle.
A beautiful Sauternes - very much a decadent and divine drinking experience. Liquid gold. Paired with oysters, squid ink tagliatelle and lobster. Suited the tagliatelle best; savoury food complemented the sweetness of the wine. Jammy in the mouth with initial apricot, vanilla and orange peel notes. Strong honey on the mid palate and a lingering almond nuttiness that begs for more. Another decade will bring out that richness, but sublime now.
Graduation celebration French pairing dinner. Had with the Fromage course. Went great with the Roquefort, it reduced the intensity of the blue cheese and the cheese reduced the sweetness of the Sauternes.
I really should drink more stickies. Had with apple pie and cream and it was magnificent. Lush apricots and honey, but the acidity gives it balance rather than sugary sweet wine. the ripe 2009 vintage showing the force of fruit. Lovely wine.

Just starting to show caramel, crème brulee, flowers, pineapple, apricot, honey and butterscotch aromas. On the palate, which is where this beauty really shines, the wine never quits, and that is a good thing because all that honey drenched tropical fruit tastes and feels great. Drink this sweet treat now, or age it for 20 years, it is delicious!

The highest I have rated a wine for a long time. Absolute knockout. Deep, rich, unctuous. Its not a wine you want to share with anyone. Wonderful acid balance moderates the effect of the very high sugar. Notes of honey and marzipan on the nose.
Complex aromatics of tinned peaches, honey, apricot and vanilla. Luscious and sensual in the mouth, invading every crevice and filling it with sweet nectar. It has plenty going on and finishes with cleansing acidity, inviting another sip.

Wine was a little thinner than I remember it being and the finish was just ok.
For the money I much preferred the Château Guiraud from the same vintage. The Guiraud was a bit more decadent and rich comparatively with creme brulee and honeyed notes, which is more my style. Plus I believe it was almost half the price.

Intense gold colour which is bright and sparkling. The nose has intense mushroom, botrytis, lime, orange, grapefruit aromas which all flows through on the palate with honeyed sweetness plus a powerful mushroom and earthy flavour with spiced oak. Long delicious finish and a wine which was perfect with our cheese plate.

I'm going have to have to agree with Redted here. When I first had this 2 years ago I was completely floored by it, but this time I came off as thick and lacking freshness. It did come around to show off some apricote and honey but not in the same ball park even as prev bottle. Hoping this was an off bottle and not '09 imploding.
Not a d'Yquem, but at $25/copy, this blows the doors off the QPR. A rich, zesty fruit bomb, great example of type. It needs a few years more to settle down, but has all the elements of a very good vintage.

Tasted next to the 2011 and 2001. A bit more concentration even than the 2011 - wonderfully complex nose: honey, tropical fruit, burnt sugar, marzipan, orange peel. Arcadian Tasting (Shari's, Mpls, MN): Light golden color. Drank a small glass over 20 minutes. Powerful nose of tropical fruits, honey, coconut, pineapple, tangerine, and subtle floral notes. The palate shows pretty good acid, though i expected it to be focused, the body is there, fairly honeyed and unctuous already, nice tropical fruit, pineapple and coconut, tangerine, spiced, medium finish. As good as this is, based on this showing, I suspect it has entered into that no man's land of Sauternes drinking and won't really show its stuff for a few more years. Hold. 93(+)pts.

Light honey colored, full bodied, thick, tongue coating, chewy, almost syrupy, sweet honeyed fruit flavors of peach, mango, papaya, lychee, hints of apricots and sweet apples with tones of almond nut on a long mouth puckering lingering finish.
WineFest in Toronto (Mike Grammer); 7/10/2016-7/12/2016 (Mike Grammer's (parents home) in Toronto): Not my WOTN, I give that to the 2001, but that's partly because I know this one will eventually be better. Let the 01 have its day. This is so young but such a great wine. Honey, quince, spice on the nose. Great acidity. Lively, spry acidity with a slightly viscous honeyed palate with oranges and orange peel. Long finish. Gorgeous wine. Needs another 10 years and should last for a couple of decades after that.

4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (Mark & Rochelle's): From 375ml. Young. Golden color with notes of peach, honey and apricot. Rich texture; marmalade, peach and botrytis spice on the palate. Soft acidity with a lengthy finish.

Light gold, full bodied, and intense. This wine shows off all sorts of tropical and stone fruit on the nose and on the palate. Floral and honey notes also prevalent. Zingy acidity helps to balance all of this out. Long mouthwatering finish. The scores for this wine are sure to go up even further as it ages. Fantastic.

Tasted this and the '13 at the Robert Parker event in NYC. Besides being very sweet (even for me), it tasted as if someone poured a bag of sugar into the wine. I couldn't even drink this.

I have not had a Sauternes for a while; this half bottle simply reminds me once again how a good Sauternes can be. Had a half glass with fresh figs: what a good combination. Strong Botrytis aroma, nicely sweet, lush. Will drink over the next few nights.

Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL): The more I try Suduiraut, the less I like it. This is simply too big and clumsy, without any elegance from the acidity to keep it fresh (I guess you could serve it as shaved ice by lowering the temperature instead of the pH). The alcohol juts out far too much here, distracting from an otherwise dense and complex palate that shows orange peel, green herbs, and a touch of burnt sugar.

The CT tasting notes and the critics are right about this one. My 3rd 375. There's a slight improvement every year. Absolutely stellar, and everything I want from a rich Sauternes. I love the botritis in these. To me, this is nearly as good as the 2001 d'Yquem.

This is a mouth-filling, profound, powerful wine. And it's still young! Deep, concentrated flavors, robust, elegant and silky. The depth of the flavors is astounding. Dark honey, caramel, baked apples, apricots, citrus, botrytis. Balance between sweet and acidity is almost perfect. Complex and layered with a finish that goes on forever.

In the glass it is luminous and pure, feathering from an untainted gold centre to perfect clarity at the nearly invisible edges. Smells like a bunch of fresh cut flowers, honeyed apricots, and something nostalgically warmer…Grandma's baked Apple danish...Cinnamon? Nutmeg? Raisins? The faint toastiness of caramelised sugar. All this makes it a decadently sweet wine, but it dances through the mouth with the lightest touch; vibrant, fresh and clean. Tingling my tongue long after I put the glass down.
2005 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, Suduirat, Madeira's (John V.'s): This was was awesome. Light golden in color. The nose is honeyed apricots and baked apples covered in white raisins. With air, just a touch of cinnamon came out too. Unctuous. Honeyed. Sweet but not overtly. Complex. Long finish. A true wow wine.

Chateau Suduiraut 1982 Deep Amber Definitely signs of crime brule, showing age, smells like its one downward slope, smells old, almost to the point of flawed. Nose reminds me of sherry after a while. Deep powerful dried fruit, apricot, safron, plums a hint of raisins. Loads of sherry. You feel some of the alcohol. Medium lengt 83
Chateau Suduiraut 2002 Medium Amber First in the flight that shows some freshness on the nose, ripe pineapple, safron, spice. Spicy, slightly dried pineapple, apricot Slightly on the sweet side. Lacking some acidity 88
Chateau Suduiraut 2008 Amber in color Nice nose, fresh pineapple juice, honey, some apricot, passionfruit. More balanced sweetness and acidity, ripe pineapple slightly dried apricot, akacia honey, slight hint of safron 90
Chateau Suduiraut 2009 Starting to change from a ver light color to light color Slightly more oumpf on the nose, lots of fresh ripe exotic fruit, pineapple, passionfruit, apricot. Nose is balanced.
Honey, exotic fruits, loads of sweetness but the acidity backs it all up! Very complex fantastic. Spicy some botrytis Very powerful! Long taste Very balanced Beautiful 96
Chateau Suduiraut 2010 Light Amber Nose is slightly more honeyd than fruity, safron, spicy,
Acidity is domintating slightly, some heat, spicy, slight taste of very ripe pear. Not as complex as 2009. Quite nice but very simple compared to 2009 91
Chateau Suduiraut 2011 Light Amber Might be the most powerful nose on the flight. Loads of power on the nose. Lots of exotic fruit with a lot of power. This is a lot fresher fruity then the others. Very big difference.
Balanced sweetness and acidity, this is good! Almost as good as 2009, way better than 2010. Fresh exotic fruit, very pure! Pineapple, a hint of spice, apricots, honey, Very nice wine indeed. 95
During a tasting dinner with Xavier Sanches of Axa Millesimes. Medium yellow. Expressive nose of pear, nuts, vanilla and a whiff of smoke. On teh palate sweet and fresh at the same time. Not as good as the 2001 but not far off. 93+

Terroir-istes International - France, Bordeaux, Sauternes (Groot Constantia): A mid-gold to copper colour. Fruity and ripe aromas with nectarine, apricot, and cling peach, moving to orange marmalade, spicy oak, vanilla, marzipan, and pastry undertones. A sweet entry (130 g/l) with noticeable weight and depth and medium acidity that gives a rich, fatter profile. The palate exhibits raisins, plenty of new oak, resin and ginger flavours that expand to marzipan, honeycomb, candied lemon and barley sugar. Noticeably sweet, powerful style (almost unctuous), this wine will benefit from further bottle age (30 years or more?) in gaining complexity but still requires time for the oak to integrate. It feels heavier and more viscous, reminiscent of tinned peach and apricot syrup.

Gorgeous wine; classic top-end 2009 Sauternes. Luscious, complex (stacks of honeyed botrytis), mouth filling flavours that are even decadent yet beautifully balanced. Quite something. I do love the 2009's.

Tasted next to a 2014 barrel sample. Quite a bit richer and darker on the nose, less floral and primary with more notes of caramel, brown sugar, marzipan, dried fruits. Also on the palate more weight and sweetness. Very rich and luscious but there is enough acidity to keep things balanced and lively. Expressive and fine. Amazing finish. Delicious now, but with a long life ahead. 95-97

Expressive and perfumed on the nose - complex notes of honey, ripe stone fruit, caramel, flowers, nuts. Good weight on the palate, but more energy and vibrance compared to the 2005, rich, creamy, spicy. Wonderful length. Delicious even now but with a great future. 95-96+

Aroma is intense with Lots of pineapple, spice, some ripe pear
Palate is also intense with pineapple, spice, lychee, slight grapfruit. There is a lovely complexity that changes throughout the duration of the long taste. This is really good. This will probably become great with some time. Balanced between sweetness and acidity is really good.

Monthly lunch with Attila: Apricot, nougat, pear, spice and nutty notes. Beautifully balanced and has excellent poise and class. Sweetness and richness are both prominent but there is acidity that punches through and drives the wine. It's possible in a little bit of a hole right now, give it some time though and it should be great.

I'm on my 7th half-bottle and won't be stopping any time soon. This is an especially exquisite offering from Suduiraut and one that is rewarding now but will explode in 5-8 years. An altogether wonderful vintage and a very dependable Sauternes for ending the night well. How can it not electrify the dessert course?! What a maddeningly dedacent match with plain unsweetened NY cheesecake and pink lady apple slices. Simply magical!
Tasted at the 2013 New York Wine Experience On nose nice fruit and acidity mix which, amazingly, completely disappears on the palate. For me impossible to assess the future of this wine. At present I did not find it very attractive..
From 375ml. Apricot, stone fruit and honey aromas. Youthful and racy- peach and stone fruit qualities with a nice underlying spice note and supporting acidity. Lengthy finish dominated by honey and fruit cocktail syrup tones.

Gourmet IV. Notes of pineapple, citrus and salted caramel, with a texture somewhat like cotton candy melting in your mouth. Young and in need of time, but I tend to like my Sauternes on the younger side, and then again after a lengthy sleep. This will probably last decades if you so choose.

Botrytis honey nose. Very deep colour. Lively balanced acidity, rich stone fruit but overall a bit one dimensional. This needs some time to lose a little pf the bitterness and to create some complexity.

Some/enough acidity to make me hopeful for the longer term and enough spice in the background to make me believe that the wine will flesh out and gain complexity.
HOWEVER, right now it is a solid wall of candied pineapple with dried mango as the grout. There is surprisingly/maddeningly little else. I may open another one in 5-7 years. The rest will wait.

Still young and may develop significantly, but I found this a touch a light in viscosity and a tough bitter on the finish. Otherwise a beautiful wine with great aging potential. No shortage of flavor and great acid should only enable great improvement with time. 92+ (reserve the right to see how it tastes in 20 years and change my rating :-) I wouldn't touch it for 15 though.

A very nice, almost stellar, effort from Suduiraut. An elegant nose and palate consisting primarily of vanilla, banana, pineapple and orange notes. Smooth, rich, refined, completely lacking in any harsh notes to mar the utterly superb finish. Just a wee bit shy of the spectacular 2001, but after that one, clearly the best Suduiraut of the past several decades. This is a can't-miss surefire party crowd pleaser.

Sauternes at Le Weekend des Grand Crus 2012 (Bordeaux): Nose: citrus, botrytis, honey, aromatic/flowery. Palate: honey, some spice, good acidity, citrus, freshness with hints of mineral. 2009 UGC Bordeaux Tasting (San Francisco): Lighter styled nose, not getting too much right now; palate has great balance and density of fruit with moderate complexity. I don't know if it was because this sauternes was the last one that I tasted, but I thought this was a very good but not superb wine. I was definitely outvoted, as most others thought this was stellar. I'm not sure what was going on, but Suduiraut isn't usually one of my top sauternes (except in 2001) so perhaps this just isn't my style. I hope I get to revisit this in a few years and reassess.

With an intense perfume that is equally matched with power and concentration of fat, sweet, ripe, pure, honey drenched fruit, this beautiful sweet Bordeaux wine has it all. Your palate is coated with layers of sweet yellow and orange fruits, spice, vanilla and honey. With length, purity and freshness, this blend of 93% Semillon and 7% Sauvignon Blanc is a delicious Sauternes that is worth finding and laying down. It should age and evolve for decades!

From a 375. This is quite lovely for being so early. There is amazing balance between sweet and savory here. Flowers, honey, grains, grass. Lengthy savory finish.

Yum.

Wine Notes:
2009 Suduiraut - This wine was a very pleasant surprise for me.

For all the hype behind the 09’s this one proves true
Nose is Expressive, Oak not overdone, marzipan, apples browned in butter, lightly caramelized cane sugar with hints of white honey. Palate shows creamy fruit, layered with good Concentration, Depth of fruit offset by spicy freshness. pears/apples fight each for dominance, flashes of tangerine flesh, touch of Bitter almond on finish. Purchased as futures, stored accordingly and enjoyed at 40-50 degrees. Drink over the next 15 years. Na zdrowie

Lemon/Orange rind, grapefruit, honeyed tropical fruit notes, light botrytis, nice acidity.

Welcoming Chicago winos - Part Deux (BLT Steak - Washington D.C. - High Octane Wines): Exceptional young Sauternes. Sweet white fruit driven nose, pear and white peach, also pineapple, ginger, spice spices and botrytis. Exceptional concentration, almost oil like density without being heavy, bright acidity and long finish. Really showing well in its youth.

开瓶阶段的白花香散后,杏、桃子、枫糖和矿物感成为主角,入口甜度超高,像个老奶奶,有点陈腐但很古怪的能让人安心舒适。紧致、细腻,不失柔和,相当出色的状态。

On nose nice fruit and acidity mix which, amazingly, completely disappears on the palate.

Young, 93-94+ p.
More fresh than most Sauternes 2009s, which should mean that it has a good potential for the future.

Goedhius Bordeaux Cru Classe Tasting (Saatchi Gallery): Had to back and taste it a couple of times. Amazing freshness with hints of lemon, orange peel and honey in the background. Wonderful balance on the mouth with a long finish. If you do not like your Sauternes too sweet this is for you.

2009 Bordeaux at UGC San Francisco (Bentley Reserve Building, San Francisco): Just a ridiculously good wine. Great concentration of tropical fruits and botrytis. Very dense yet extremely lively with very good acidity. Wonderfully clean and pure. Super length. Just a tick behind Climens tonight though not by much. This has a good chance to be even better than the utterly profound 2001.

What Jeff Leve said in his notes.
Lots of layers of sweet fruits and blossoms that're just starting to come together, but still needing time to mature.
Reminds me of a younger slightly lighter 2001.
Tasted at The Union DES Grand Cru Bordeaux 2009 in LA.
Overall impression 94-97.

Obviously very sugary, apple, unctuous, you can eat this but nice acidity to balance. 95-97 pts. BTW, their dry white is quite nice if you dont mind a hint of sugar in your dry whites.
