Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Blackcurrant, pencil shavings, polished oak, baking spice, very slight vanilla pod, blood, plums, cedar. On the palate pencil shavings, fresh black currant brambles, talc textured tannins persists long, dry out the palate but not sufficient to detract from the fruit. All travels very long. Quite traditional gentlemen's claret from a good vintage. Nice

My first time with this wine. Bought EP as part of a mixed case stored until this year. Opened and decanted Left for an hour before the first taste. Drinking nicely from the get-go but lacks complexity & rather one dimensional. Deep ruby red/ purple, muted on the nose but floral notes, autumn fruits and spice. On the palate rich berries, I'm sure I got blueberries, with super smooth tannins. Lacking in mid-palate nuance. For my taste and if sharing, decant for 2-3 hours. Nice but today this retails at ~£80. I'd be disappointed if I bought it today for that price.

Nose is worryingly restrained and takes a long time to uncurl, but even when it does is very quiet. Thankfully there is a lot of action in the palate, with typical Batailley roasted hazelnut, juniper, graphite, cedar and plenty of darkly sophisticated blackberry, well balanced between classicism and complex fruity punch. A very long flavourful and dry finish, indicating this will probably be ok to leave for a while, though delicious now (with a 6hr decant).

Purple hue, soft aroma. Subtle first taste of leather, earth, light tannins finishing into a slightly sweet, spicy finish. Medium linger and not too dry and lack of earthy finish. A bit disappointing for a 13 yr Bordeaux, was expecting more.

Scallops and Steak with friends (At home in leafy West London): Compared to its flightmate, a bit more substantial, a bit more polished, and not quite as ready. Thoroughly enjoyable Batailley - i think if i had a few I'd consider opening one over the festive period, but this has a long life ahead of it.

A recent 2010 poujeaux proved superior to the 09, and I find the same with this. Finer texture, more detail. Tannins are tame. A pure red fruitedness peeking out from the very core. Wonderful but will improve

That previous ‘hardness’ - albeit contained and in keeping - of the second bottle of the case we had a couple of years ago has dissipated. First bottle was all about graphite and huge blackberries. I felt the 2nd bottle was just unbalanced, neither one thing nor another.
Now we’re into the realms of relaxed tannins, good dark but not black fruits - slight plumminess? Possibly a bit woody.
Absolutely perfect with a T-Bone Bordelaise. Good now and for well over a decade.

Quite funky on the nose with pencil shavings, bell pepper and mint. Fruit quite masked initially but it revealed itself more after a bit of time in the decanter. After which it was a delight - classic refined left bank. Robust but refined tannins and good acidity suggests this has plenty of life left

Drank this bottle at Cook & Brew during the Little Red Dot 3rd Anniversary Dinner. Theme of the evening: Cabernet Sauvignon based wines which are more than 12 years and above $120.
Brilliant ruby red, with a chariming nose of black berries, cedar notes, backed by some funk and tight, well-defined structure.
Clearly a Bordeaux which can be aged for another 5 to 10 years. No hurry to open at this stage.

Half bottle decanted and drunk. Colour still deep, but redening at the rim. Nose has some cedar and dark fruit complexity. Rather full and rich, tannin and acidity gives a bright mouth feel. Much more interesting than the Cantemerle drunk last weekend. Clearly has the structure to run for years depending on just how old you like your claret.

Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Cream, blackcurrant tends to cassis, cedar, mint, slight meaty underpin lends a savoury note. Juicy, cedar, that melange of black fruits backed by mint, slight sweet spice, tight grippy tannins are talc textured in a supporting role for the fruit. Very long.

This was good and WON at our table with a ‘17 Lail BP that we had second. Agree that this is edging toward being mature beyond my taste. Fruit is berry subdued. Tannin is very mellow and the secondary notes are dominant.

Bright, deep red in the glass. Distinct red fruit brightness but with depth and a savoury edge. Redcurrants and pencil shavings, is that a thing? Walking the fence of maturity. Less exuberant than the 2009. Decanted 45 mins much more relaxed after two hours.

Christmas Eve on its own post dinner. Rich dark fruit core with still a bit of freshness present. Tannins have melted away for a soft integrated taste. Tannins are chalky on finish so expect a number of good years ahead. Soft leather polish on the nose

Coravin fun - Batailley (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Aromas of brambles, blackcurrant, a little toast and biscuit, touch of alcohol prickle, slightly jubey notes, cedar, almost a little plain chocolate and, with time, a hint of cigar box. Medium plus intensity acidity, brambles, blackcurrant, woody tannins are floury textured, persistent...both the flavours and the tannins are assisted by the alcohol to carry long. Nice.

2/6. Batailley 2010 drinking well. Lovely brooding meaty nose with pencil lead, dark fruits and a touch of mint with good freshness on the finish. Tannins nicely integrated, silky mouthfeel but with plenty of body and richness too. I had a bottle a few years ago that was good but quite dense and tannic so I was concerned this would still be too young. This was in the early drinking window for my tastes. A nice surprise.

On opening it’s so minty and laden with bell pepper that you’d be forgiven for thinking it was from Western Australia. As it settles down it shows more classic cedar, along with raspberry, plum and chocolate. The tannins are rather untamed and wild. Still, definitely approachable and within its window, although I strongly suspect it will improve.

From Wine Society; I note this because I've had bad luck with their more expensive wines. This was opened 5 hours before tasting but not decanted. Plummy with long green tannins, a dark peak on each sip, and a hint of oak, with maybe - maybe - a slight suggestion of damp cellar. Alcohol is noticeable; it feels more than the 13.5 it is. The wine leaves an impression of being unbalanced and a bit flabby. I can't honestly say it's corked but I've had far tastier Bordeaux from the late Denis Durantou, at a third of the price.

Virkelig imponerende.

Day II, fridge & vacuum. New wine shop in HCMC, somehow "duty-free". 100USD. So 100% tariff. Reasonable for SE Asia. Rustic purple in the glass. Rich looking, not extracted. Wow, stinky fella here. Behind that mess is some nice ripe fruit, the nose playing into the herbs and ripe lush fruit. Soft palate, some nice density w/o viscosity, sharp fruit, then sharper fruit, then it expands nicely in the palate, bright fruit, pencil, acid & tannin battle the fruit. Long finish. Fruit/Acid/Oak/Tannin just still hanging on together. Great w food. Agree w a lot of what @Chatters describes in the flavor profile. Drink now w a decant or open in morning. Long life ahead.

From Coravin. Again, like the 2009, polished oak but everything is a little more austere and serious here, savoury cassis if you can imagine such a thing, almost a touch of soy sauce, black plums, sweet spice. Medium plus acidity, savoury black fruits, plums more to the fore here but still that cassis note, tannins are present but integrated. Balanced. Long. Young but, for me, better than the the 2005 and 2009 on this showing.

Decanted 2 hours in advance. Oak on the nose, almost like a Rioja Reserva. Sweet dark fruit in the background. Blackberries and oak on the palate, the fruit is sweet and the oak is just integrated enough. A seasoning of pencil shavings in there, with menthol on the finish. The wine is so smooth; the tannins, fruit and oak are poised. Only just entering its drinking window but I very much enjoyed it.

As before, noticed the rich liquor like fruit along with smoke, liquorice and pencil lead. I’m tempted to call it flashy but of course this is Batailley; a touch more pizazz and substance is very welcome. I seem to be in the minority here in thinking this is entirely ready for drinking. The structure is reassuring for another decade in the cellar (I do think this will be wonderful in its twenties) but I would have no issues working my way through a case now.

Intensely fragrant on opening of dark dusty fruit, pencil lead, river stone. Entry is quite interesting; very saline. Lots of dark liquorice and wood. Tannins quite present and late. Wood presents just a touch of greenness quite late in the finish.

Probably drinking young, could use 3-5yrs. You wouldn’t think Bordeaux from the nose. Large cherry flavors with surprisingly high OH on the palate. Smooth, but not sure that’s a good thing as it lacks power, definitive characteristics, and finish. Merlot like but honestly disappointing.

Very dark, viscous cranberry. Nose is largely closed, but hints at loads of red, meaty underlying fruit. A bit more forthcoming in the mouth, this is already showing off a lot of complexity in its big, brawny flavor profile. This is still quite raw, rough, rustic and tannic, and needs years to evolve to drinkability, but there is loads of promise. 5-13-17-9: 94/100.

Very dark crimson. Brooding nose but with hints of some lovely notes waiting to come through. Deep sweet black currant. Some cedar and cigar box but secondary to the fruit by a long way at this young stage. Ooh that is lovely. Great weight of sweetish fruit, nicely balanced, Still very young but not tight or tough, this is drinking well on opening. All fruit, glycerol and tanning but in good balance, lots of baby fat. Remained pretty similar with air, dense but v pleasurable.

Only a few more years of bottle age has added a lot to this wine. Juicy cassis, blackberry, tobacco, smoke, cedar aromatics pop with no effort. Refined tannins and an elegant, medium.full bodied palate presence, with a bite of cassis in the end note are what you'll find here. This should be close to peak with another 7-8 years or so of age, and continue from there offering nice drinking for another decade or 2.

On first opening and a first trial sip this was quite fierce and young.
After a good long decant (5 hours or so) started to come around and show its potential. Dark colour in the glass with a slight glossy sheen. I was surprised that whilst it certainly has fruit, it was not overwhelming and had a graphite/pencil shavings profile with plenty of vanilla on the nose. Very smooth and restrained taste, which to us screams potential.
My advice, FWIW, is if you want the best from this wait a few years hence.

Had a reticent dusty blue fruits, cassis and spice nose. This was relatively thin and a bit uninspiring on the palate.with flavours echoing the aromas. However it probably needed a good 6/7 hr decant and then it would surely have blossomed. Had long length with aromatic aftertaste and building tannins. Lay down 10-15 years plus.

A very nice Pauillac filled with cassis, blackberry, olive tapenade, earth and some cigar box notes. Opened and decanted
Left for an hour before the first taste.
Drinking nicely from the get-go but lacks complexity & rather one dimensional.

On the palate rich berries, I'm sure I got blueberries, with super smooth tannins. Lacking in mid-palate nuance.

Nice but today this retails at ~£80. I'd be disappointed if I bought it today for that price.

This is now absolutely ready for business.

This was good and WON at our table with a ‘17 Lail BP that we had second. Agree that this is edging toward being mature beyond my taste. Fruit is berry subdued. Tannin is very mellow and the secondary notes are dominant.

From a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. the wine has good concentration of flavor, ripe, but noticeable tannins and rich, spicy, cassis filled finish. This will only get better with time.

Initially reticent nose, then opens up with blueberry and cedar. Modern style with firm tannins, cassis, pencil lead, but also has a rustic and chewy edge. Minimal oak influence. A very substantial, sturdy wine.

Nose jumps out fairly well. On the palette a slightly New World style with lushness, some oak, to go with traditional notes of tobacco, dried fruit, loam. This could appeal to a lot of different drinkers. Very solid stuff.

Mövenpicktastig: best of the affordable Grand crus, fine intense cassis nose, on the palate the typical Paulliac lead pencil, ripe and nearly integrated tannin, fullbodied, but elegant swallowing, well structured, concentrated blackberryfruit, long+ finish, quite good by now, but will improve by some (more) years of cellaring, 89- 92?

UGC 2010 Singapore (Singapore): A fairly light garnet / dark ruby, and a light style with mainly red fruit, oak, vanilla, fine to medium tannins and a short to medium finish. 89+

Too tannic to get much of a read on this wine. Patience until 2024 minimum.

2010 UGC Bordeaux Tasting Chicago (Drake Hotel): Aroma has prominent oak. Taste has quite a bit of tannin, but some sweet blackberry fruit as well.

2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: There is a real rustic quality on the nose with a good dose of rawhide leather, cedar, spice box, and dark red cherries with some earth tones.
Taste: Full bodied with big and very grippy tannins. Well balanced with nice and rustic tones of rawhide leather, cedar, earth tones, and dark red cherries.
Overall: This definitely does need some age. This could be a nice and fuller bordeaux the older it gets.

A bit riper than I like but not quite among the worst offenders this year, it's also a bit clunky but there's a seriousness and a boatload of pencil lead. Really likable wine.

UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2010 (Brussels): Classical bouquet with beautiful ripe dark fruits, sweet spices and luxurious oak. On the palate ripe dark fruits as well and a lot of vanilla, round tannin, some sweetness and a good , but not extreme length. Very ok wine, but lacks the finesse and complexity to belong to the really great wines. Drink from 2022 onwards.

Bright glossy purple with a delicate cedary nose with hints of blackcurrant leaf. Firm and well balanced with toasty tannins and bright red and black berry fruit. Good but a little straightforward.

Fresh, deeply fruited spicy cassis - more expressive than yesterday, quite gorgeous in fact; lovely texture and fruit on the palate, much more open and shoing delicious flavour. Quite tannic on the finish. 92-94

Quite closed - some very classy fruit trying to peep through though; silkily textured, lovely mouth-feel though fruit is closed up. Good density and great potential. 89-92.
