HWS Bordeaux 2009 vs 2010 (By me): Beautiful and elegant oak, tobacco and chocolate in the bouquet. Same on the palate, elegant juice with dark berries, graphite and beautifully fresh acidity and round tannin. Good length with a pleasant touch of sweetness. Young maturity stage now and delicious. 92 – 93

Visually dark garnet colored in the bowl with bricking at the rim. The legs are slow and and long with medium to heavy sedimentation in the bottle (had to use a coffee filter after standing for 48hrs). After an hour of breathing, the nose is a cedary and dusty bark with dark red cherry notes. The body is full with medium acidity. The wine has a somewhat still tannic texture, concentrated ending in a medium to long finish. All in all definitely a nice wine but requiring a few more years of cellaring. Paired with angelhair pasta with white truffled meat sauce.

In kind of an awkward teenage phase right now. Extremely dark color, but the nose is developing, with some primary dark fruit notes but also tobacco, beef jerky, and leafy tobacco. The palate tastes more youthful with plums, blackberries, some cassis, and spicy potpourri. Tannins are still quite aggressive, and there’s a bit of alcoholic heat here, but I think this has the fruit to make it over the longer haul. I’ll put my other bottle away for at least 5 years and see what happens.

Seems to be in a nice spot. Balanced fruit, tannin, some acidity, earthy, leathery notes and a medium finish. The fruit mellowed as the wine opened in the glass over about 30 mins. We prefer the 15’ to this one but that’s not a knock, just for comparison sake. This is good to go with life left if you prefer more evolution.

Impressive and surprisingly ready to drink with some hours of decanting time in a large flask, especially considering this is a 2010!
Plums and blackberry on the nose and palate, this is a medium body Pessac-Leognan Wine with a good balance and nicely aged. Medium-long finish with mushroom hints.
In 1874, it called itself Chateau Haut Brion Larrivet, much to its illustrious neighbours anger! Lawsuit after lawsuit entailed and eventually in 1949, it was allowed to have "Haut Brion" at the end of its title!
Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion is owned by the Gervoson family as of 1987, whose fortune is derived from sales Bonne Maman jams (red and white checked jar lids!).
One of 3 favourite bottles in the 7 we enjoyed at @Hann Sze's home.
Thanks @Mika Tyson Teau for so deftly preparing this wine, how long was the decant? Not often are we able to enjoy 2010 vintage bottles
Thanks M for sharing this... I think he only paid like USD 50-60 some years ago before the wine inflationary period.. well priced and good quality mid tier Bordeaux left bank!

Terrific mid-level Bordeaux that's not showing any age and drinking just perfect after an hour or so in the decanter. I got this at specs for around $75 and that's very good price for a wine at this vintage and quality. I'm going to go back and see if they have more. Traditional Bordeaux profile: medium body, with some decent legs, herbs red fruit and a nice mushroom/forest floor flavor profile that lingers on the pallet for about a minute. I really liked it. Served it at dinner with some friends everybody enjoyed the wine.
Revisited 1 year after my first tasting and every bit as good as I remembered. Delicate aromas of tobacco pipe and black fruit followed by earthy, dusty notes of black cherry, fleshy plum and cocoa powder. Tannins are seamlessly integrated with pleasant acidity delivering a refined finish.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Bordeaux, Pessac (@ RW): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, sweet spices and a firm dose of oak and vanilla. On the palate oak and dark berries, sweet spices, licorice, chocolate, beautiful acidity and tannin with still a good bite. Develops in the glass. The alcohol shows a bit, but certainly a beautiful wine in its young maturity stage. 92+

Decanted two hours before serving. Deep purple color. Hint of barnyard on the nose along with some dark cherry. Medium-body with medium acid and medium-to-medium-plus grainy tannins. Rustic palate with dark fruit interspersed with meaty flavors. No hints of over ripeness -- great classic Bordeaux for the price (I bought this for $40 a couple years ago).

Wow is how I am going to start my notes. The nose is definitely oak, plummy cassis and minor green notes. On the palate, the wine is totally youthful with plum, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, and some tight astringency. The wine has a nice long finish like chocolate pudding. It’s one of the better wines I have had in quite a while

Deep ruby, with marked viscosity and high extraction. Starts off with greenish minty aromas and tight tannins, but quickly mellows to ripe cassis and black plums, but still with cool mint, cloves and cinnamon. Fairly long finish, and moderate complexity

We decanted this two hours before dinner. This has a very bright, fruity wine that definitely shows the Merlot and Cab Sauvignon characteristics. This will continue to mature and come into its own, but we definitely enjoyed it tonight with our New York strip with favs beans sautéed in garlic.

Excellent wine with a magnificent nose while the palate was still a bit restive. Already worth a try this wine will reach maturity in 5-10 years depending on storage conditions and could achieve rating scores even 2-3 points higher.

Bordeaux 2010 - 10 Years On - 61 Reds: Bordeaux 2010 after 10 years. 61 reds, mostly big names, tasted blind. Average score 92.1 and lower than the more open and charming 2009 vintage last year (93.4). A few observations: A) It’s not yet the harmonious, complex, classic, clean vintage. Especially the masculine appellations of the left bank need at least 5 more years to just open up, potentially longer to soften. B) Left bank trumps right bank thanks to less detectable alcohol, cleaner lines and the two best wines of the vintage (Mouton, Margaux). C) Pomerol shines bright with many strong wines which can all mask the high alcohol levels (best AOC slightly ahead of Pauillac). D) As in 2009, there are several right banks already past peak, incl. big names (Duffau Lagarosse, Ausone). All in all, 2010 is a very good vintage with pockets of greatness but today 2009 shows more open and hence complex. More information, top and worst 10 list, appellation rankings from five participants in the story link.

Grand Bordeaux 2010 ten years on tasting; 6/21/2020-6/22/2020 (Fribourg): Big Bordeaux 2010 2-day horizontal hosted by a private collector. My 3 main takeaways from the vintage were 1) more frequent perception of heat, 2) a slightly stronger left bank and a less consistent right bank, 3) while in general it is still too early to pop the 2010s, wine selection is key as some appear to be in decline already, especially on the right bank. The top wines were Mouton (99), Margaux (98) and VCC (98). The biggest positive surprise was Clos Manou (95). Biggest disappointment was Pape Clement (86). More details and complete tasting overview included in the tasting story.

Decanted for about 2 hours before drinking. Very dark and inky purple-red with very long legs. Nose has aromas of licorice and pencil shavings. This wine is lush and thick, almost chewy in the mouth. Dark fruit flavors overwhelm, and the finish is long but a little bitter, probably due to the lingering tannins. This was a nice wine but I would give it a few more years.

Deep colors, typical Pessac Leognan nose, but needs some coaxing, quite tight at the moment. This wine definitely needs decanting. Quite extracted, a bit different style than the 2008 or the 2009. Lots of burnt charcoal and tannins come forward over the fruit, a bit dry as well. I would give it the benefit of the doubt with more time in the cellar. Leave it alone for another 3-5 years at least. Drink their 2008 now instead.

Flavorful and supple. Dark plum is there but definitely dark berry, boysenberry and hints of BlackBerry. Nose is fruity and intriguing. Makes you want to drink it. After taste was showing young and energetic. I understand what tarry means now and how it can be very delightful on the palate. Paired with bbq braised, think sliced bacon and a monster bone-in ribeye. Delicious. Felt like I can drink it all night. I'll try it again in a few years when it has further matured.

50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. An estate which produced a better wine this year than in 2009 in my opinion. Still liked the 2000 better though. Minerally with solid acidity. Tart cherry and plum notes with some tar on the finish. Medium bodied. 88-90 points.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium acidity and some chewy tannins. Balanced with tones of cedar, crushed rocks, dark red cherries, and some pipe tobacco.
Overall: The tannins aren't as oppressive as with other 2010s. This seems more of a candidate for mid-term aging.

A very nice Graves that's young but drinks well after some air in the glass. Somewhat less complex than the 05 but it has a nice concentration and balance. Modern but not exceedingly so.

55% merlot and cs, fermented in concrete. Dark ruby/purple colour, high in round tannins, deep and big with full body, broad flavours. Very nice!

Decant for 1-2 hours. Lots of oak, high tannins, high alcohol. Bread pudding, cedar, some sourness. Great nose but a little disappointing when drinking.

Initial funk n opening quickly faded and wine was interesting and developing on 1st day, earthy, but on 2nd day it had lost whatever depth and body it had. 90% of the time my wines are better 2nd day.

Concentrated leather and cocoa, withered wood and marmite nose. Compact and grippy with good flavour replays; med-long finish.

2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: Nice and open-knit nose of crushed rocks, cedar, tobacco, dark red fruits, and dark red cherries.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium acidity and some chewy tannins. Balanced with tones of cedar, crushed rocks, dark red cherries, and some pipe tobacco.
Overall: The tannins aren't as oppressive as with other 2010s. This seems more of a candidate
for mid-term aging.
