Team dinner at 67 Pall Mall, Singapore. A single bottle brought by a colleague. No formal notes. Popped & poured, I let the wine sit in the glass for a few minutes. Medium to dark ruby colour. Red and dark fruit, black currant, dark cherry, blackberry, leafy notes, light chocolate, earth, graphite, spices, and gravelly minerality, with good acidity, plenty of polished, dry but not drying tannin, and impressive length. Medium-bodied, well-structured, and well balanced, and very true to its place. Very Margaux! A beautiful wine. Still young.

Surely 2006 should be ready by now. Apparently not. I've had 2 bottles before; the first very green and scored 88 and the second fully ready scoring 93. This 3rd bottle was half way between the two and somewhat rough so I was going to give 89 points. I had used the rubber stopper type of Coravin with the first glass and then left it for 3 weeks. The turnaround was remarkable. The character became old anise with 1980s character. The fruit has filled out, the tannins super soft and the green character has gone completely. Very long finish. A disappointing wine has turned into a delight.
20112023 - Mini Tanker dinner with the Gang! My 1st bottle of red which I popped before dinner. Probably should have decanted this. Slight barnyard at first, dark fruit, some dried fruit, bell peppers but still powerful oak + arabica coffee beans. Mid+ acidity & medium bodied. Tannins are already integrated and dusty on the finish. However, felt this lack the fruit quality or structure

Blend of Cab 54%, Merlot 40%, Petit Verdot 5%, Cab Franc 1%. Most of us figured this was an Old World!
Nose has a classic florality wich is signature Margaux, but slightly delicate and not as forward as I expected.
Red plums, light flowers and some cranberries as well as leather on the palate. Medium-bodied, with dried fruits on the medium length finish.
Medium+ acidity. Tannins are fine and mainly resolved with a slight grainy nature, and there was an improving evolution with dark chocolate and rose petals on the finish too. I am not quite sure if this will improve further, and has likely reached its peak now.
Whilst not being as highly regarded as the legendary 2005 vintage; Things in 2006 were made worse by patchy weather throughout the growing season – including a July drought and a cool August. There are however classic, well-structured wines too. However, there are significant variations between estates and much depended on soil type and positioning.
Thanks Romz for spoiling us with not one, but two aged wines over our dinner at Mini Tanker in Damansara Kim. Great and boozy night out over 13 bottles.. with Don, Jackie, Wong, Sern, Tom, Romz, and JoeY.

Decanted for a couple of hours. Small amount of silty sediment. Just past ruby on the way to mahogany in colour. Delicate, feminine and floral on the nose. Violets, red plum, camphor, dried cranberry, woodspice and light smoke and leather. Medium bodied, slightly tart, dried red fruits, no tannin and a soft yet tart finish. Mostly dried red fruits on the palate as compared to the nose. Cranberry, red plum skin, rosehip, light leather, dried rose petals and a touch of blueberry leaves on the finish.. Past its prime but still hanging on gracefully. Nice dry, tangy finish. An elegant older lady of a wine. Probably should be drink up of the next few years.

Slightly leafy and showing a fair amount of development on the nose. Good intensity on the palate but slightly astringent with some green notes and rather grainy tannins. While this is unlikely to fall apart soon, I am not sure there is much room for improvement.
WSET Notes:
Deep garnet.
Medium plus intensity on the nose with blackcurrant, blackberry, blackcurrant leaf, graphite, sous bois, clove, cedar. vanilla, earth, tobacco and leather. Developing.
Pronounced and dry on the palate. Medium plus body, high acidity, high tannins, medium alcohol, medium plus finish.
Can drink now but has potential for ageing.

In the colour, deep, brick. Staying nicely strong and energetic. Full nose of blueberry, ripe dark fruit, chocolate, as well as spice and oak. Medium- to full-bodied, chewy tannins, complex, fresh, long-finish. Classic.

Dinner at Caroline's: Guessed 2005 Bordeaux but wasn’t sure if this was a left or right-bank. The sweetness and ripe, plummy fruit made me think the latter, but the strong pyrazine notes made me think the former. An opulent Bordeaux similar to the PLL that came before, but with less elegance and detail.

Drank at Flagler Steakhouse. Decanted for 45 min, could have used more. Good color, muted nose to start and overtime in the glass more nuances were prevalent. Good palate feel and with steaks pretty delicious. Hold.

Beautiful mature nose, very elegant. Bit weak on the palate but still what you‘d expect from a 17 year old bordeaux of its class. Still brillant colour. Tiny bit of sediment only.

It was good, but given all the glowing reviews, disappointing. It came across as a good solid Cru Bourgeois. It wasn't flawed, just unexciting. Bottle variation. Looking forward to the next one.

Decanted 30 minutes. Medium garnet. Nose of truffles, forest floor, dusty library, dried cherries, old potpourri. The palate shows lovely balance with very fine tannins and a good acid backbone. Skillful in execution, restrained, elegant. A very nice, mature Margaux.

This is really singing. Fully developed claret that is still fruit forward, but has integrated nicely and starting to show secondary characteristics. Rather dense fruits, flirting with opulence, but very much firmly in control - the Merlot really shows. Fine, sooty tannins, and a long finish round things out. A really delicious classed growth claret - who can complain?

Much better than the first bottle last year and hard to believe this is from the same case. Big nose jumped out when double decanting. Complex blackcurrant, bramble, cedar and pencil shavings with a green hint that doesn't detract. Tannins are plentiful yet very soft and the wine is drinking perfectly now. Lovely.

Rauzan Segla vertical tasting, wine #3. Beautiful Rauzan at its peak, showing great concentration, harmony and true finesse of its terroir. A blend of 53% CS, 44% Merlot and 3% PV, aged in 50% new oak for 18 months. Intense and refined aroma of cassis, tobacco, cherries, sandalwood, barnyard, menthol, dry forest floor, medicinal hints. Medium body, concentrated, rich and elegant with earthy blackcurrant, dry cherry and cranberry flavours topped with cedar and spice notes. Concludes with smooth and fine tannins.
Good, but not my favourite 2006. I'm nitpicking because this is a lovely wine, with a brambly yet minty nose and a fairly intense attack of blackberry and loganberry, then a touch of austerity before a reasonable finish. It will certainly improve further but I'm not sure it will lose the austerity.

Still has a long live ahead (10 years +). Was already very good, but not yet at its peak. Constantly improved over 4 hours of drinking. So a good decant is definitely recommended.
Blackcurrant and cassis but the perfumed nose was somewhat muted and restrained, perhaps not enough cajoling and airing time for this good 2006 vintage! Funny enough the lesser 2008 vintage R had shared some months ago outshone this, that's how finicky wines can be. Grateful for D's generosity bringing this mini vertical of RS (as well as the Lascombe pair!), enjoyed at Js birthday party in BIG's steakhouse, Beast at Batai ??

My experience was very similar to ANDICE even after double decanting and giving it 2+ hours of air. The wine is delicious and typical when it first hits your palate, but fades quickly at mid palate and then has essentially no finish. Enjoyable but not up to standard. Possibly needs quite a bit more time?

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Powerful and dense. At 15 years (2021), this is drinking well. I decanted for 1 hour. Will be pairing with beef, chicken and pasta. Deep garnet red with a dark colour core. On the nose, it has an elegant and fragrant bouquet. Besides blackberries and raspberries, it also exhibits secondary notes of truffle, lead pencil and cassis. On the palate, smooth, round & creamy. Full-bodied, with soft and refined tannins. The finish is long and echos the bouquet on the nose.

Pleasant nose with creamy oak and pipe tobacco notes. Enters well but went hollow in the middle quite abruptly. Finishes weak. Fruit feels like drying out

Powerful Cassis and blackberry nose. Dark berry fruit, adequate acidity and beginning to fit tannins are integrating well. I think I’ll wait at least 5 more years before my last bottle.

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot
Transformed appearance of garnet red with darkened deep-colored core. No bricking yet. Fresh looking. Compact rim.
Aromatics is a complex medley of cassis, blackberry, gunpowder, rosemary, with some drier flower scent lurking in the background.
On the palate, the tannic structure is firm, dusty, but smooth enough for drinking now, with medium body and med-med plus acidity. Upon entry, it shows a lot of fresh fruit characters - dark cherry, cassis, blackberry. Lots of pencil sharpener, graphite, lithe quality to it. Quite minerally as well. The oak component is satisfactorily resolved at this point of its evolution. It finishes with a good length showing lots of dry spices and earthy character.
This Rauzan Segla has done well with time. 2006 to me has always been a relatively early vintage that can keep for a long time. This bottle has confirmed this theory. Superb Margaux to start 2021. If drink now, 1 hour of decanting is recommended. Otherwise, in 5-10 year time. 92+

excited to open this bottle after reading all the good reviews. Bottle was opened and decanted two hours before consumption with T-bone steak.
Tasted first while preparations for the dinner and was thinking if I'm drinking same wine as good reviews. Wine seemed quite closed and fruits were mainly lacking. Finally with steak it was a bit better, but still a bit of disappointment. therefore score at 89.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), petrol, oak and tobacco. It tastes like blackberry, plum, oak, tobacco, chocolate and black currant (cassis). The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Much more mature with noticeable Margaux characteristics than 6 years ago; the nose, elegant and perfumed mix of berries, cherries, graphite, mints, lavenders, violets, animal furs, and black truffles; the palate, juicy and delicious, berries, cherries, green peppers, dark chocolate, tannins, and wood spices; long finish; overall, 92-93 points at this stage.

From a mixed case of 3 each of four different 2nd growth quality bought from the Wine Society en primeur and stored by them until recently. A muted green nose and light fruit on a very green palate despite dark colour makes me think this is slightly corked. We'll find out when the next bottle gets opened.

In a good place!

The Rauzan-Segla delivers everything you come to expect in an aged Marqaux. Over delivering was is just an ok 2006 Bordeaux vintage.
Paired excellently with our Porterhouse steaks cooked on the Green Egg.
From the first sip you got the beauty and creamy velvety tannins that I love so much from the region of a good Margaux producer.
The nose showed beautiful dark & mid red fruits with amazing red florals bounding from the decanter at first pour & better later in the glass.
The body is elegant, round & creamy. The fruits ripe, fresh; blackberries, dark cherries, strawberries, black raspberries and strawberries bring up the rear. Excellent florals, mixed red & purple fruit cola, soft, fresh tobacco notes, suede leather, limestone, moist clay, moist, dark earth and an array of; blue, purple & red florals. The acidity round & perfect. The long finish is like a velvety glove, well balanced, fresh, ripe, elegant, creamy and similar wire to wire.
It is out performing its original reviews at this point and has another 8-10 years of good drinking ahead of it.

It's definitely not the best vintage of Rauzan-Segla, but I found that this chateau delivers complex and enjoyable wines form almost any vintage...
Medium-to-full body. Aromas of undergrowth (wet moss, leaves or tree bark), tobacco, with an illusive hint of orchid flows, and a bit of vanilla. Flavors include black cherry, blackberries, truffles, and finish with hints of nuts. Quite fresh with strong tannins. Long finish.
The wine is still quite young and may improve in the cellar.

Anniversary dinner wine. Quite a soaked cork 2/3 of the way through. Barely any sediment though. Colour is prune purple fading to more of a raisin and then slight bricking at the rim. Initially the nose isn't bit funky, but then after some time in the decanter it opens up very floral with charcoal, black currant and some stalky notes. Overall it's quite pure on the nose with tart black currants and blackberries. Underneath there is a deeper tone of compost or loam that adds to the complexity. There certainly is a lot going on with the nose of this wine! The mouthfeel is medium bodied and very smooth. Lots of those tart black fruit flavours. Feels perhaps a bit light in the middle, but the front and backs are fuller flavoured. Acidity emphasises the black fruits. Finishes dry and smooth with only slight but very fine grained tannins. Not that long on the finish but overall very classic and refined Bordeaux. This is just entering the start of its drinking window.

The first day the wood showed a bit too much but a week or so later (Coravin) the wood was wel integrated and the red fruit came forward. So I think still on the young side but you can enjoy it after a long decant.

I have four of these and thought I would do my 10 years in bottle check in. I will tell you this wine has the makings of something special but, it is far from ready. Its showing some Margaux beauty & style but, it needs at least another 7-10 years before I’d open another. The wine has not softened and integrated enough at this stage.
The nose reveals ripe, baked and candied fruits of, dark currants, blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries & plum. Big vanilla, clove, cinnamon stick and nutmeg, sweet tarriness, anise, dark, rich turned earth, dry stones, dark berry cola, dry herbs, dry stem, tobacco, graphite, cedar with fresh, dark, red, blue, purple perfumed florals.
The body is big, full and rich. The tannins are dark, round but, meaty and sticky. The structure and tension are still huge. The length is really good but, the balance is still earth dominate. Ripe, baked and candied fruits of, dark currants, blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries & plum. Big vanilla, clove, cinnamon stick and nutmeg, sweet tarriness, dark spice with some heat, dark chocolate, mocha powder, used expresso grounds, anise, dark, rich turned earth, dry stones, dry clay, gritty volcanic minerals, leathery, dark berry cola, dry herbs, dry stem, tobacco, graphite, cedar with fresh, dark, red, blue, purple perfumed florals. The acidity is round and beautiful. The finish still needs time but is nice and persists minutes.
92 now with room for 2-3 additional points in 10 plus years.
If you are the type to long cellar your wines, buy the hell out of the 2018 Rauzan-Segla.

Overall, drinking beautifully, and gracefully. At a really good spot now. I would not wait. Highly recommended by Decanter 2 years ago. Decanted 2 hours prior. Opens with insence, black plumb, exotic spice, herbs, and rusty pipe. Highly aromatic with more time. Like a good perfume. Flavor was black plumb, blackberries and earth. Very silky, soft and so Margaux-like. Very appproachable.

Amazingly fresh dark cherry, raspberry nose with slightest pepper. Similar on the palate with a cedar overlay. Noticing the variability of bottles in past reviews we were lucky to have landed a perfect one. Opened up early to a beautifully balanced smooth finish. Very pleased overall. Low expectations never hurt.... Highly recommend drinking this soon. Purchased at a restaurant and I will gamble with the variability and look to procure a stash.

At 12 years of age The eye- Beautiful medium dark garnet with bricking to the edge.
The nose- At first: earthy, like cutting into fresh mushrooms, evolved cassis and red fruit, interesting wood spice like the aroma of your grandparents antique furniture. 1/2 an hour in: dark chocolate and red fruit awaken.
The palate- Dark fruit complicated with aged mellow oak, authentic Cabernet Sauvignon profile, medium bodied and a good persistent length, everything is in balance concentration/acidity/tanin, tastes like a Margaux. In its prime drinking window with a good 2-3 years before the fruit runs out. Good, very good wine.

Very tight at the moment, this shows a lot of dark blackcurrant fruit and some rather woodsy oak. Highly perfumed, but of a darker character that the typically floral scented Margaux profile you expect. Some nods to the Graves, but there isn't the same intensity either. Quite taut, very firm tannins, austere. Needs time, but shows promise.

Served on SIA flight. It has been a while since I cross path with this. Floral with hint of woods on the nose. Still plenty of tannins on the palate, slightly bitter at finish. Good length though. Bigger wine that I can remember. Woods never really went away after 2 hours. Approachable but should wait.

This is my seventh bottle of the same vintage. I opened the first one in 2012. There has been incredible variability from bottle to bottle. Some have been excellent, others have been very tannic. This particular bottle was extremely tannic even with decanting. The color was deep red. There was no sign of oxidation. The cork was difficult to extract but was removed whole. There was a slight bouquet. The flavor was overwhelmed by tannin to the point of unpleasantness.

Double decanted for restaurant ant consumption. No real sediment to speak of. Very floral nose, still significantly tannic and could have done with more air as it clearly evolved in the glass. Dark plum Colour in the glass. Nice depth of flavour (blackberries, violets, herbal notes) but the oak feels a tad too heavy or perhaps it just needs to integrate further (5 more years wouldn't hurt). Long finish. Was paired with a Milanese pork chop.

Poured from bottle. At UE Straits. Drank over 1 hour+. Getting better and better with air. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ flavour intensity, with aromas of tobacco, gravelly earth, floral violets, blackcurrant, blackberries, mild green mint. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries, minty herbs, gravelly earth, tobacco, sweet spices. Long finish. Very good quality. Approachable and enjoyable already now with some air. Will develop and improve with another 6-8 years of age. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.

This needs more time to soften further. Tannins already more resolved than I recall when last tasted, but probably could improve with another few years in bottle, given that it improved drastically in glass despite 2 hour decant. Super textbook Margaux floral nose of violets especially after opening up further in glass, with juicy cassis and hint of wet earth adding complexity. No sign of oak. Less interesting on the palate, with middling dark fruit, and medium finish.

Tasted during the World Congress of the Commanderie de Bordeaux and Fete de Fleur 2016. Showed much better than two years ago, having softened considerably. Nice and complex nose of cloves, cedar, dark fruit and spices. Good structure and volume on the palate, fresh and a tad masculine for a Margaux but otherwise very nice showing tonight, medium+ bodied.

With a nose that is showing secondary development, cedar, truffle, cigar box, lead pencil and cassis notes are easy to find. On the palate, the wine is earthy, fresh and polished, leaving you with a tannic, crisp, dark plum and cassis finish with a hint of truffle on the palate. This is good now, but will be even better with 5 more years in the bottle. The wine was made from a blend 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.

Celebration of a tough week. Decanted for 1 hour. First nose, blackberry, second nose earth, lead pencil, mushroom along with the taste add black currant. This had a hard time getting awakened from a deep sleep. Upon opening, tasted lean, almost austere, on the palate. Over 3 hours of decanting, was slowly (very slowly) opening up, with notes of graphite, tobacco, and currant emerging. Ultimately, nose became fairly broad and expansive, quite good. On the palate, improved with air but never quite hit the stride, remaining noticeably tannic with restrained fruit. I would not open another bottle for several years, if not 5+.

At Waterlot Inn, Bermuda, with William Wong and his pupil. From a poor, but extensive and expensive, restaurant list (at an otherwise rather good restaurant). Great colour. Vigorous nose. Strong, quite primary flavours, but tannins not obtrusive, good length, and overall a satisfying young wine. Went well with a very well prepared NY striploin. Much better than the 2006 GPL which I was obliged to choose from a similarly unsatisfactory restaurant list last year, in Zurich.

From half. Nose a lot more interesting than the palate - strong cedar and black fruit notes. Palate is concentrated, shows lots of wood, good charge of tannin, nice acidity. Slightly short of fruit. Medium finish. Really enjoyable but not outstanding.

The initial impression is really quite promising, deep purple / ruby core, with a rich bouquet loaded with black currants, violent, spring flowers, incense, flint, raspberry, oaky vanilla and white pepper spice. The nose gained more earthy tone over time. On the palate, very rich, forward, with lots of cigar smoke, sweet berries, plum meat and spice. The tannic backbone is solid, but not inturding. The balance of the wine seems slightly off between the acidity and fruits, the spice tone also causing the inharmony to the experience, and dominate over other notes as time progresses. Additional cellaring time will hopefully bring all the elements more integrated for future tasting.

Bordeaux Confidential SF (SF): Medium ruby. More intense brett than the ’10. Some savory tobacco underneath. More brett driven, dryer, with less fruit and more bitterness than the ’10. Less acidity, less freshness than the ’10. A completely different wine. Score: Around 8.5

The nose was dark and alluring with sweet herbs, hints of cedar, undergrowth, dark spice, and light tobacco tones. The palate was finessed with brisk acidity yet slightly restrained by fine tannin. The finish showed tart red fruits and cedar, yet it’s structure clenched the senses, leaving only a hint of berry and cedar. This is young to be sure, yet it should evolve beautifully over the next ten years.

Nose of boysenberry and violets with lots of spicy oak in the background. A bit heavy with the oak, which I don't think will integrate any better with age.

Dinner with the IT kakis (Szechuan Douhua, Kitchener Road): Next up was a flight of 2 Bords. This was no doubt very young, but drinkable. I had dark cherries, some violets and a faint gravel note on the nose. Very very fresh (lifted) on the palate, with noticeable (though very fine) tannins. Red to dark-fruited, this was quite straightforward with not much complexity at the moment although it certainly had the propensity to improve with more cellar-time...

Practically no nose - maybe a touch of sugar or toffee. Quite fresh, quite tannic, too oaky for my taste, austere and harsh. Not very pleasant. Perhaps it needs time, but I wouldn't drink or buy this. Angular.

Complex aromas of black cherries, green peppers, caramel, mints, lavenders, and violets; dark berries and cherries, dark chocolate, whipped cream, and unresolved tannins; very long finish with mostly dark fruits and mild spices; overall, also still quite young; 91-92 points.

Shy nose with some spicey notes. On the palate it is smooth and discreet. It is understated, and frankly underwhelming. While pleasant to drink, silky and smooth it has no oomph, and little excitement.

Reserved and slightly austere. Chalky and gravelly on the nose. Little fruit. Medium bodied with smooth palate but lacking any punch. 3-4 hour decant. More time in cellar may improve score but this is an understated wine content to remain below the radar.

Bordeaux 2006 from Magnum (Tanglin Club wine circle, Singapore): Medium ruby. Discrete nose of cloves, sweet spices and dark berries, nice aromatics but still reductive. Easy to distinguish as Margaux next to the Pauillacs and St. Juliens. On the palate medium bodied with good volume but prominent and a somewhat drying tannins. Not much pleasure. Least preferred wine tonight. Wait 3-4 years. 88-90+?

This was a lovely wine. At 7 years it is mature and very drinkable. The tanins are soft but provide an excellent underpinning for the fruit. The color was deep red. There was a definite bouquet. The flavor was subdued fruit with slight acid, oak and tanin.

Still needs time to integrate the oak, but another very successful 2006 Margaux. Lovely smooth tannins (giving a great mouthfeel), currently a dry finish but I think this will improve over the next 5yrs. A modern-styled Rauzan, any this could be better value than the 2008.

Beautiful dark and red forest fruits and sweet spices in the bouquet as well as on the palate. Same with the beautiful oak and cedar. The wine has a good depth. Some pleasant sweetness and a lot of good acidity. The tannin has a good bite. Good length as well. Early maturity now and this will be a lovely and luxurious wine between 2016 and 2020+.

After 30 min (decanted): Smells of dark cherries, dates, vanilla, & smoke. Tastes weak with light fruits & moderate tannins.
After 3.5 hours (decanted): More fruit coming through on the nose (raisins) & finally coming to life - increasing in body, structure, & fruit. I was extremely disappointed until the 3rd hour. Will try again, but it never really got me that excited.

I opened the wine full of anticipation after great experience with D'issan 2006 and Brane-Cantenac 2006 recently. Decanted for 1.5 hrs and served over the following 5 hours. Great nose, much more forward than D'issan or Brane-Cantenac. Still tannic and not as sweet as D'issan or Brane-Cantenac. The texture is smooth but not silky like the other two. It's more like tasting Pauillac than Margaux. Sadly, even though there are plenty of tannins and alcohol but I don't think there are not enough fruits for the acidity. D'issan 2006 is much better than this.

Powerful, tannic and structured to age, the wine offers crème de cassis, cedar, floral, truffle and blackberry notes along with a long, fresh, tannic, clean finish. Give this 5-10 more years and enjoy this beautiful Margaux for several decades after that.
Beautiful wine come many layers and good after taste. Drank for four hours and kept evolving, gave me a good experience and definitely an encore for me

Dark ruby almost opaque. Vanilla on the nose. Dark mushrooms and (too much?) oak on the palate. Well balanced and medium length. Smooth finish and light tannins. Concentration does not live up to color. 54% cabernet, 40% merlot, 5% petit verdot, 1% Cabernet franc.

Opened up nicely over 2 hours before drinking with dinner. Color is dark viloet purple Upon opening this wine displayed notes of spice and black licorice. Still young, it's showing good acidity, balance and a medium finish. This wine is a crowd pleaser...very soft and approachable. Watch for this wine to bolossom over the next 5-8 years.

CellarTracker Bordeaux Trip; 5/23/2011-5/26/2011 (Bordeaux, France): Beautiful nose, with the first impression being the floral characteristics, followed by cherry, dark plum, prune, figs, leather, a hint of lead pencil, and a touch of fresh mint. Seemed a bit tight to me on the palate, yet was not completely hiding. Leather, dark plum, black cherry, some nutmeg spice, espresso, cigar leaf, along with tart currants round out the palate. Great balance, with medium acidity and a moderate amount of smooth tannins. Medium+ finish, ending with notes of cassis and espresso. Very good.

-- tasted a single glass non-blind over 5 – 10 minutes --
NOSE: cherry menthol; cherry licorice; pretty; striking; engaging; interesting; complex. This is a wine, if I were popping it at home, that I would smell for an hour before even putting it to my lips for my first sip.
TASTE: violet-ruby color of medium-deep depth; well-balanced between acid and tannin; pure fruits; hints of mineral; tight and tannic; requires more time.

CT Bordeaux Trip, Day 4 (Margaux): Very similar impressions from two years back. A pretty good wine in its own right, but rather unfortunately overshadowed by a fantastic 2010 barrel-sample we tasted alongside. Still though, it had a beautiful nose though, absolutely floral, very Margaux, with roses, violets, some thyme, floating alongside earth, red cherry and berry fruit scents, with just a touch of roast meat at the edges. Hauntingly pretty. The palate had a nice juiciness on the attack, with fresh cherry fruit spiked with some cassis. The fleshiness dried out a bit on the midpalate though, where some fine, slightly dry tannins took to the fore just before the finish opened up with a touch of fresh black fruit sprinkled with bramble and spice. Not the greatest complexity, but it had a nice sense of structure, lovely balance, great acidity, pretty nice length. A nice wine, but all bit tight at the moment - I would like to try this again in 5-7 years' time.

Alcohol :: 13% Open for 5hrs and served. Seductive sweet currant fruits and perfume violet soared from this dark ruby juice and added depth with cigar, tobacco and capsicum with earth and mineral background. This med-full bodied wine is still pretty tight after 5hrs. It has sweet entry but then quickly superseded by the acidity and medium level of very firm tannin form the tannic mouth feel but this is quite soft in texture along with flavor of dark chocolate, grounded coffee bean, touch of oak leads to fresh, elegance finish that's linger with roasted herb, blackcurrant and quite austere. This kinda modern Rauzan Segla will deserve at least 5yrs in the bottle. Buy - No.

A dark ruby color w/a nose of black fruit, tobacco/cedar, and some earth. Really nice texture on the palate with good length and flavors on the finish. Better than the '06 Pavie Macquin I just had, not nearly as acidic, but still has some muscles. And lots of time.

Vanilla and spice mix with some crushed blackberry notes on the nose. On the palate this is medium bodied with restrained dark fruit flavors mixed with a stony minerality towards the finish. Tannins are held in check by the nice overall balance. A bit of time in the decanter opened this up a bit more. I suspect that about 5-8 years should do wonders with this wine.

Back with a bang. This is terrific stuff. It is exactly what I expect a young, delicious Margaux wine to taste like. Black currant, cigar box, earth. Impressive structure, fine acidity, elegant fruit, finesse finish. Everything in balance. A great wine regardless of the price, but when factoring in price, this is a phenomenal buy. Can be cellared for quite some time. Highly recommended. 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, and remainder Petit Verdot.

WFA Bordeaux 2005/2006 Tasting by the Wine Review (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): I really liked this. Nose was a little alarmingly sweet at first, with some cotton candy notes, but toned down a little to show cassis and cherries, along with a good dose of white flowers and some vanilla. A little new worldly I thought, but very pleasant. Palate was rather more classic Margaux, with good weight and solid crunchy cherry and cassis fruits mixed in with more flowery touches. Nicely balanced too. Finish was round and pleasantly textured, with some lingering spice notes. Nice, very approachable, but should still age pretty well. Something for Rauzan-Segla fans to drink while waiting for the lovely 2005 to come around.

Sampled at the UGC event in Chicago. The rep said that the '06 "has the same amount of tannin as the '05, but has more acidity". Might have been an off bottle, but I was disappointed in the lack of Indian spices that I normally find in a R-S, and found the wine uninspiring.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2005 & 2006 Tasting (Hyatt, Century City): The nose is somewhat reticent at first but with coaxing there are primary aromas of tutti frutti, licorice, and flowers. The palate also is quite restrained with cherry and red berry fruit. Very approachable and soft; the type of wine I would drink while waiting for my 2005s to mature.

Whilst not being as highly regarded as the legendary 2005 vintage;
Things in 2006 were made worse by patchy weather throughout the growing season – including a July drought and a cool August.

An opulent Bordeaux similar to the PLL that came before, but with less elegance and detail.

Good, but not my favourite 2006. I'm nitpicking because this is a lovely wine, with a brambly yet minty nose and a fairly intense attack of blackberry and loganberry, then a touch of austerity before a reasonable finish. It will certainly improve further but I'm not sure it will lose the austerity.

Grr... Tannic and rough and angular. Good nose - eucalyptus, mint, woodsmoke. OK but generally just another boring claret. Why bother? No distinctive character at all, and basically pretty rough.

At 12 years of age
The eye- Beautiful medium dark garnet with bricking to the edge.

Very good.

Open for 5hrs and served.
