Very much toward the end of its drinking window in 750ml format. Biscuity, touch of lemon but that orange note creeping in of overly mature champagne. Good enough to drink mind you.

(Disgorged in 2007, 60% Pinot Noir, 7% Meunier and 33% Chardonnay, dosage 9 gr/L) Lovely yellow colour with fine streams of bubbles rising in the glass showing a very pleasant maturity with cream and some chocolate also showing hints of acacia honey and some biscuits as it opens up in the glass. Smoothing citrus acidity on the palate transforming into a lovely creamy note on the mid with a pleasant lime sweetness on the lengthy finish filled with butter. This is such a delight, and opens up in a lovely way in the glass.. (Best 2017-2037)

First look at this, but only had a couple of bottles. Full straw. Creamy mousse, mature, nicely biscuity, some ginger too. Positive attack and finish, just lacks some energy and pizzaz. A nice drink and worked well through the evening with a Rogan at home menu, but ultimately a bit “so what?” Just about ***1/2

Bought for three years ago and decided to open this weekend.
Incredible wine from first to last sip. Golden color, looked younger than 19 years of age. Slight matured nose with yellow apple, citrus and brioche. When sipping, vanilla and a buttery/nougat notes take their fair share on the palate. Dry with medium-high acidity. This could for sure been aged for 7+ years more but i do not regret open it, what a treat! Best champagne I've drunk (yet...).
96p!

The wine looks greenish gold colored. The beautiful bubbles are as smooth as silk. Creamy and full-bodied, with an elegant mousse. The fresh acidity balances all the richness.

Beginning to fade on the carbonation front. Broad palate, lots of brioche, hazelnut, creaminess from the lees. Dosage feels a little high, but very nice to sit and contemplate. I'd drink up, you may risk flatness if you keep much longer. No disgorge date on the bottle but it's been in my cellar since 2010

Gourmetklubbens fyrtiosjunde middag (A+N, Sundbyberg): (Disgorged in 2009, 60% Pinot Noir, 7% Meunière and 33% Chardonnay, dosage 9 gr/l) Lovely yellow colour with a smooth and creamy palate and delicious notes of tutti-frutti, hazelnuts and citrus at first. Maturing nose showing a delicious butterscotch note combined with citrus, cream and fresh cut grass. Smooth yellow apples acidity with a creamy butterscotch note on the mid and an intense lime zest bitterness on the very nice and lengthy finish. This is just getting better and better the longer I keep them in my cellar, wonderful! (Best 2017-2037)

Nose of honey, toast, grilled nuts, orange peel, and some oak in the background. Marzipan and chamomile add interest. The bead dissipates quickly in the glass. Surprisingly, the wine is a bit like a Cardhu single malt in terms of flavour profile! Bacon fat, orange, lemon, marzipan, honey, toast all vying for attention. Good length.
Opinion: I was concerned this might be over the hill. While rather developed, it is in a good place and will likely hold for a good while from here. The strength of the vintage comes through.

Tasted at Three Borders Wine Group, Hampshire, UK. We opened our evening with this vintage champagne from Veuve Clicquot, 70% pinot noir, 23% chardonnay, 7% pinot meunier. Yellow gold colour. The nose definitely shows age, less fruit, but pleasantly encouraging. Dry palate, honey, yeasty. Held well in glass for an hour.

Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): There's a rumour that there was a labelling mistake or somesuch, and a bunch of the Grande Dame ended up in the regular vintage bottling. I don't know if it's true or not, but I can say that this was a pretty tasty bottle of champagne. It shows the ripeness of the vintage, and on the back end of the palate, there's a sweet almond note. The fruit is slightly creamy and there's also a slight bit of sweetness on the palate -- perhaps it's just a hair overdosed? Plenty of acid and a fairly vigorous mousse help to cut through those riper elements.

Stunning champagne. Deep golden colour in the glass. So complex and very nicely evolved. So much browned butter, butterscotch, honey and Bastogne biscuits. Very creamy and full-bodied with an elegant mousse. There was also still a nice underlying fruit and acidity to balance all the richness. Long finish. Great value.

Affordable Champagne for Summer; 8/1/2018-9/2/2018 (España - Spain): For dessert time, my mother's birthday, although its real place is a main role between courses. It is always appreciated that as long as any big house brings to market well-aged vintages. Of good aromatic intensity accompanying tangerine skin notes, the memory of rich roasted wheat or crunchy puff pastry when passing through a Palma de Mallorca oven. In the mouth the bubble is insignificant and the real thing resides in a density that is balanced by acidity. It is still deliciously oxidized and very pastry. Clearly Pinot noir is main grape here. Maybe it doesn't have 20 years left but it's just a very enjoyable f#cking freak kind of champagne right now. Dosage: 7 g/l. Otherwise I like the smile that gets on my face when the cork's neck is so narrow that you can use it again and again to close the bottle and prevent from losing its weak bubbles.

Opened with a very, very gentle phut. Light mousse, fine bubbles which dissipated quite quickly. The citrus freshness and fruitiness that was once evident has now morphed into green apple. Autolytic flavours more to the fore, like fresh brioche, and also perhaps a touch mushroomy.
Judging the age of this, we had it with grilled oysters. Seemed a good choice, as whilst theres still acidity, it doesn't cut in the same way as it did.
This bottling has provided many a moment of pleasure over the last few years, and bravo for that, but the Old Lady is hanging on in there, time is not on her side...

(Disgorged in 2009) Yellow colour with a stream of fine bubbles that lead way for the maturing nose showing brioche, butter and Brazil nuts. Mature and smoothing palate with hints of toffee caramel and lovely fresh minerals and with a long lasting acidic citrus finish. This was a lovely treat as always! Right now it's perhaps a bit too dominant on the oak inspired vanilla creamy palate. Best 2017-2032.

A Celebration. (Winelight Cafe): Bright, golden appearance, with a substantial, active perlage. Ripe, toasty, complex bouquet. Candied Meyer lemons and stonefruit over notes of creme brulee, butterscotch, toffee, and hazelnuts. Long, satiny, and voluptuous in the mouth. Offers poise, structure, ample acidity, and a glyceriny, caramel edge that comes from bottle age. Ripe, fleshy, candy apple finish. Its balance and sense of harmony are impressive. This was worth the wait.

This was the opening palate cleanser for our 5 Cabernet Sauvignons tasted from the 1980s. Unfortunately it was served warm due to the 100 degree weather, nice mousse, tiny bubbles, floral nose, creamy fruit, medium/big body, tasty, good acid, long finish. If served at the proper temperature probably 91 points.

(Disgorged in 2009) Lovely nose showing minerals, seashells and butter in a lovely combination. Palate is fresh with very little reductive notes and a nice long almost salty finish. This is drinking very nicely right now, but will improve with further cellaring if you like your champagne showing more lengthy mature oxidative notes.

Best bottle of this so far. Standout highlight of the whole festive period.
Lively yet elegant mousse, and a great rounded nose. It has hints of the house bread/yeast, but with a lovely reserved fruitiness (principally citrus) with maybe a touch more age-related things in the background starting to push through.
45 second lingering finish was a joy to behold. We both were literally silent for the time and then looked at each other and blurted out the same thing.
Clearly its showing a little age, being a little leaner and more citrusy - but not in a biting, acidic way, in a really refreshing mouthwatering way.
Went perfectly with a decadent seafood platter of fresh crab, lobster, baby squid. mackerel, mussels and prawns.
Just to add to the discussion below, I feel this wine is improving over its lifespan and just hitting it's stride, with room yet for further ageing. Vive la difference!

A very nice surprise after a poor showing in November 2013. Bright and lively straw yellow, lively mousse of pin-prick bubbles; intense nose with a lovely complexity (crème patissière, fresh mushroom, magnolia, flat-leaf parsley) and good depth and freshness; the palate is almost sweet on the attack, rounded but lively, quite weighty, seamless, fruit of ripe citrus, hint of acacia, with tertiary flavours starting to emerge (coffee, candied nuts); good length.

This bottle of 2002 Veuve Clicquot is the best it has ever been and finally shows how superbly special the 2002 vintage is in Champagne. This wine is the one that I bought the most from the 2002 vintage, that was the best vintage since 1996. The acidity is bright and less astringent. The bubbles release a host of pleasing aromas of yeast, bread, lemon, and apricot. The sip now has a rounded and soothing texture with rich flavors that coat the mouth and endure through a very long finish. For the next decade, I can enjoy this stashed away wine any time as a special treat.

Impressed yet again. Equal top at the Master Class. Most 2002 are special but this is a level above its pinot dominated power by no means drowning out its complexity. Certainly for lovers or full rather than elegant style. May even improve over the next 3-4 years

Nice nose with toffee, caramel and coffee. The palate is a bit soft for the vintage, and quite low in acidity. This makes me believe that this is nothing to cellar for the long run. Already shows signs of maturity, and my guess is that this will not live for much longer. Quite smooth & soft but perhaps a bit short & thin on the finish. Good now however, went great with tonight’s huge buffet of shellfish.

Académie des Cinquante Champagne Tasting (Villa Oldenhoff, Abcoude, Netherlands): 60% Pinot Noir, 7% Pinot Meunier, 33% Chardonnay, a blend of wines from 20 different Premier and Grand Cru vineyards, disgorged autumn 2008, dosage an estimated 8-10 gr/l. Big and weighty but lacks finesse and energy, ripe fruit, ill-at-ease, seems quite tired five years post disgorgement, caramelly development. Actually quite disappointing, one can see why no La Grande Dame 2002 was produced.
Pulled straight from the (ambient) cellar and served at probably about 15-16 degrees. I'd like to think its a feather in its cap that at that temperature it was perfect, not in any way flabby or alcoholic. Very fresh, fruity, vibrant Champagne, lively mousse, quite dark in colour in my experience of Veuve a departure from the usual house style.
I'd venture at 11 years (and about 5 since purchased) its got a good few years left in it yet.
I also suspect the Arachon oysters and accompanying blood-red sunset probably added a point in their own rights, but what the heck. Thats what its all about, isn't it?

This was served slightly too warm so I'll be generous in my assessment. Very similar to the NV in style, just a little bit more of everything, with great Pinot Noir fruit, brioche, toast. Good depth and length. But... slightly too advanced in its maturity, confirmed by the weak mousse. Maybe provenance issue.

As with most vintage champagnes I have drank lately they need time open to breath and bring out the nuances of the wine. This wine is at best above average for this vintage when compared to Bollinger and others. Nice bubbles, light yellow almost lemon color. Nose of bisquit and yeast. Nice full mouth feel with very nice brioche, lemon and apple dominating with good minerality and acidity. Unsure if the price point is not just a little higher than it should be.

Our friends came over with this one on Wednesday evening and it was a great way to start celebrating the Swedish national day! Nice acids, some breadiness, but there is something that doesn't quite appeal to me in it as it's a bit too flowery in its approach. Still a great champagne, though!

Tasted alongside a '96, this was a much punchier, acidic and fruity beast altogether with a slightly deeper colour. Which is, given their different ages, perhaps, to be expected. In a blind tasting I'd have been tempted to place it more as a Perrier Jouet with its livelier mousse and vibrant bubbles. Fruit forward and more of a crowd pleaser. It was excellent nonetheless, not really sure how long it will live for yet though.

After the regular veuve, this wine certainly garners a higher rating. Still very similar to the standard with slight yeast and dough and a hint of nectarine on the nose. The depth and body of this champagne is why I can easily give this a 91. Actually, I am making it a 92. :-)

Very good indeed. The wine had been opened a few hours earlier, so it had seen some air and was rather open and giving. Very focused entry, slightly coarse due to youth, but direct, with fresh bread, flowers and a very interesting, very clear note of cherry kirsch on the palate which leads me to wonder how much Pinot might be in here. I'm impressed with the focus and the beam of acidity that keeps this going. I had intended on aging this longer, but it's showing very well now.

I was ill when we drank this so I can't be 100% sure but this seemed to stand up well. I bought this bottle over a year ago, so I suspect that it would have been different if I'd taken a bottle straight from the shelf. Seemed to be evolving quite fast which squares with the way the decanter panel found the '02s. I'll probably buy this gain. A bit toasty and tart in a nice way.

Compare the Fizz (London): (Tasted Blind): A mid-straw colour with persistent bubbles and aromas of fine autolytic notes, plenty of fresh, pure fruit and some creamy stone-like qualities (mineral). The entry is rich and mouth-filling with a glut of red fruits and a crisp acidity that pulls on the gums but isn't aggressive. It comes through as dry but with sweeter fruits that broaden and flatten out the mid-palates. It was not the most delicate or lithe wine, but it was delicious and deep but perhaps a little commercial. Still enjoyed it through! Blend: Usually made from 2/3rd red grapes, one-third white grapes.

Lovely yellow colour with fine streams of bubbles rising in the glass showing a very pleasant maturity with cream and some chocolate also showing hints of acacia honey and some biscuits as it opens up in the glass. Smoothing citrus acidity on the palate transforming into a lovely creamy note on the mid with a pleasant lime sweetness on the lengthy finish filled with butter. This is such a delight, and opens up in a lovely way in the glass..

96p!

Cork, 12% alc. Light gold with a reddish hue.

Yellow colour with a stream of fine bubbles that lead way for the maturing nose showing brioche, butter and Brazil nuts. Mature and smoothing palate with hints of toffee caramel and lovely fresh minerals and with a long lasting acidic citrus finish. This was a lovely treat as always! Right now it's perhaps a bit too dominant on the oak inspired vanilla creamy palate. Best 2017-2032.

Fine mousse, nose definitely every-state-of-bread. That citrus kick from the last bottle is there, but a little weaker.

Very nice on the nose with evolving maturity showing bread and minerals and red apples. On the palate there's minerals, lemon and licorice and acidity that leaves a long but vigorous finish.

Next to Dom P '02, this was not as ripe, developed and approachable, however, developing some bottle age and gun powder complexity. Not yet there, but very enjoyable now. Should be at its peak in 3-5 years' time. Cheers!

Nose rather marked by what I would think is oak which gave it more than a touch of rhum & raisin...Some did not like that, but I was pleased.

Some bottle variation, possibly depending on when the bottle was degorged. This sample was feeling less integrated than earlier bottles with much more fruity sweetness combined with hazelnts and minerals on the nose. Still very good.
