Open for 24 hours. Very intense stone fruit on the nose, notes of melon, honey, pear, peaches, lemon curd, wet stones incredibly long finish with good tension between mouth watering acidity and fruit. This drinks well now, but should develop even further!

Coravin fun - European Riesling (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Custard apple, stone fruit; apricot, smidge of sulphur. Juicy, fleshy, off dry tends to sweet but acid sufficient to offset, borders on the wrong side of sweetness which lends a very slightly cloying note, soe fruit, custard apple, a little texture, fresh, long, nice

Classics (Tøyen, Oslo): A perfect night cap, such an elegant wine, both on the nose and palate. Long finish with great purity, nothing excessive here, though fine complexity.
Lovely.

Weird penicillin smell on the nose that won’t really blow off but a bit of fruit coming through. Palate is so light and elegant though! Sweet, tropical, ripe stonefruits and not much acidity or citrus. Honey, beeswax and slight petroleum.

A classic of its genre: flowers, smokey slate and mint leaves on the nose, peaches, cream and rosemary on the palate, with whipped cream followed by tart, succulent mango on the finish. Acidity was notably soft, but not lacking. A very pretty wine with a lot going on - impossible not to enjoy.

Supps with the girls (E & M's in the rocks, Sydney): From Coravin. Served too cold. showed a bit of stone fruit (peach/nectarine) over green apple, slight sulphur, chalky minerality, fresh acidity, there was a little frizzante note, with time and warmth it started to show custard apple

Brought to drink at Oinoscent The wine shows demiujm intensity in the nose, clear ripe pear, green apple, a few earthy notes, thin oak frame, preserved citrus, lemon, lemon leaves, blossom-like ethereal notes. Its just starting to lose its initial "grapey" coat In the palate, the wine shows llight body, medium intensity, citrus, lemon pie notes, raw almond, beautiful balance of electrifying acidity and sweetness, with silky-like texture and the long finish that only Riesling can give you. Outstanding

Prum keeps doing it. Beautiful notes of appricot, pear and pineapple. Drinks of white peach and pineapple but very soft and delicate. Vicosity is spot on. Just a beautiful wine. Drink with spicy asian or mediterranean food.

Mid-gold, star-bright; delicate bouquet, an intermingling of muted floral/white fruits, spearmint; shows more on the palate, refreshing acidity, expansive; classic dry edge to stiff finish. Another 5 years before peaking. 48 hours later: ginger root, sappy. Clearly will benefit from more time.

Noted this had seeped a little bit as I was doing some cellar organizing; opened it and it was still quite delicious. The nose had hints of petrol, honeyed apple, pear tart, floral notes, some piney hints, and just a hint of crushed stone. The palate is decadent and yet vibrant with great energy. Really super tasty.

Wow this is superbly classic Mosel Auslese from a great producer and a very good vintage. It‘s open, mature and very giving right now. Notes of peach, honey, citrus preserve, quince, some ripe pear, but there is also notes of spices, mint, and a lot of minerality like wet stone, etc. There are tertiary notes showing up too, with notes of petroleum, also some lactic notes, But it‘s still very lively. It has medium+ body, with medium-high aciditiy and overall very good length and complexity. A great Auslese that is providing peak-drinking now and over the next 5-10 years.

Flannery Night (Jordan's, Northbrook IL): Nose: The nose is perfumed, deep, and filled with nectarines, green and red apples, peaches, white flowers, honey, melon tones, apricots, and some mineral tones.
Taste: The feel is Medium/light bodied with crisp, high acidity. The acidity nicely cuts through while there is excellent texture and depth with nectarines, green and red apples, peaches, white flowers, melon tones, apricots, and some mineral tones.
Overall: This is a beautiful Auslese. There is great texture and depth with the tones starting to show something approaching maturity.

First taste of this wine. Lovely yellow peach nectar and maybe ripe melon (but could be honey—I’m resisting that, though). Not hugely sweet, but light and balanced. Paired against sautéed fore gras: magnificent. Later, after dinner on it’s own, continued same, but more complexity. Wishing I had a creme brûlée...

Very pale in the glass with a slight sheen to it. Traces of petrol and wet stone. A bit of a warm underbrush note. Palates shows off creamy lemon, yellow peach, pineapple. Great persistence on the finish. There's not too much going on with the nose here, but the palate is really showing well.

Pre-Unendlich Dinner (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Gabriel Standard Popped and poured. Lovely, classic WeSo Auslese at the very beginning of its development. Juicy and not too sweet. Long finish. Good potential for the next 2 decades. 92-93+

From Coravin. Sulphur with apple, honey, a slight custard apple note and a little mineral underpin. With time a little cream here as well. on the palate it has sweet ripe apple with honey, a little texture on the mid palate but overall this is surprisingly simple though balanced. Travels long. Okay.
Second bottle I've had of this vintage. More prominent petrol note compared to last and a touch of reduction. Some nice ripe tropical fruit notes, subtle green apple and quince, nicely balanced with the acidity.

From .375, light hay, green shades, some spritz in glass when first opened. Palate is modestly sweet, balanced, minerally, even delicate. After sitting in glass overnight, palate is honey, white nectarine, sweetness is amazingly understated and elegant. Light to medium bodied. Long finish. More subtle sweetness than spatlese, which was that much more subtle than kabinett. Each step up is not really sweeter, just more elegant and if you can wait another five or ten years, will be worth the premium.

Cellar stored since acquisition. Bottle decanted for about an hour. Enjoyed over the next couple of hours. I get notes of tropical fruit and sweet botanicals on the nose. There is honey and apple on the palate with a medium finish. I enjoyed the wine more once it warmed up from bottle temperature (about 45F). It still tastes fresh and young to me. My only wonderment is that the wine feels more delicate than I am used to with a Prum. I guess we’ll see how it is in a couple of years.
UPDATE: I’m changing my rating from 91 to 93 and backing away from the delicate comment. Six hours after opening the wine and it is singing now. The finish is much more pronounced and longer. This is going to be an excellent wine with a little more time. I would recommend holding it for a couple more years before drinking or give it a healthy decant.

A Few Days in Seattle; 7/19/2019-7/21/2019: Clear yellow with a touch of green. A bit of spritziness remains. Marvelous combination of apple jelly, lime, and vanilla scents. I don't get much if any botrytis. Medium body, medium level of sweetness for a straight Auslese, not particularly prominent acidity but enough to keep it from feeling soft, and a dash of slate at the end. Certainly close to maturity, but no secondary notes yet. Not the most electric or chiseled wine, but the fruit is so gorgeous and pristine that it beats back any minor criticism.

Prior bottle was nearly a year ago and this wine continues to show superbly. Honey, pineapple, tart peach and white cherry on the very pretty nose. Remains between medium and full bodied with peach and apple upfront, excellent mid-body depth where a mixture of light honey and expressive tropical fruit combine to create a wine of depth and refinement. Floral and mineral notes show up on the finish. But what truly sets this wine apart is the acidity. It's a vibrant presence throughout, providing contrast and complexity. It makes the wine feel youthful and bright and does a spectacular job of framing the richer fruit notes, allowing all the undertones and nuances to be better expressed. This was sadly my last bottle, so I will certainly have to find some more!

From a master winemaker! On nose: lime, kumquat, longan fruit , pinewood honey and a touch of fresh sage. On palate: ALL of the above .....plus brisk , youthful acidity balanced impeccably with creamy texture on palate....as it warms up after a 1 hour decant , flavours of fresh bread , golden apple and a touch of coriander make themselves evident in this head turningly complex wine......at nearly 12 years of age it is entering a long plateau of maturity.....it will likely taste as fresh in 10 years time. Drink by itself or it accompanied a plate of waterbiscuits and emmenthal cheese very well....no food needed really

Prior bottle was almost two years ago and tonight's was a step up from that. Honey, melon and pear notes on the nose with floral qualities and tropical hints behind; more aromatically complex than prior bottle. Remains above medium bodied (7% ABV) with all orchard fruit upfront (peach, apple, pear). Demonstrates wonderful, acidity enhanced intensity that when coupled with the richness of the fruit and the density through the middle, makes for an impressive experience. Blind, I might have guessed 2012 as the fruit/acidity mixture seemed youthful, but balanced. It didn't have the electricity of a truly young Riesling, but I never would've guessed an 11 year old wine. Backside shows a blend of more tart notes in conjunction with hints of tropical qualities. There's so much nuance and depth here that you want to restrain yourself to tiny sips to try it again and again. Should continue to show extremely well for many years. Might try and hold off my next bottle until November 2019 unless I can get some more.

Aromas of petrol, white stone fruits, and floral notes somehow work well here. Pure ripe fruit flavors of apple and pear with spring floral notes with bright clean finish makes for a wonderful drink. Dense and oily in texture with nice kiss of sweetness. Very nice drink.

Tasted at the winery. Compared to the 2009 vintage, this is more concentrated in aromas and flavors and has more tropical notes of ripe mango and passion fruit, in addition to petrol, stone fruits, and candied lemon peel. Creamy mouthfeel, not cloying, and finishes with refreshing acidity.

AP 34 08. Part of Rudi Wiest’s 2017 import although bottled at the estate back and declared to wine regulators in 2008. Perhaps as a result of this impeccable cellaring, this showed MUCH better than the bottles I picked up a few years back sitting on a store shelf. Smooth and well integrated, beautifully ripe, although the acids were a bit lower than we’ve been treated to in recent vintages. Gorgeous stone fruit some developing secondary notes. Burnished and rich. Drink with spicier food or enjoy it on its own just because it’s so wonderful!

Ice princess nose with cider glacé. Persistent and bright with a lushness that unrobes. Sweet butter. Great beats and then full on scratching drops in between on the texture. Amazing. Edgy citrus to finish. Has a real presence and vibrancy. Street.
Coda: I was also served this btg at Clove Club in London 11 days later. Very consistent notes with the creaminess a bit more to the fore, but the same vibrancy and life. Great stuff.

A few with Indian Food (Cafe Tandoor): One of those wines I have been lucky enough to drink multiple times over the years. It really has improved with age. Of course, the last time I tried it was in the dining room at JJ Prum looking out at the vineyard on a sunny day across the Mosel River. For some reason, this bottle was not quite as good as that. ;-) Go figure. In any event, it really is outstanding and just starting to come into its own IMO. Light golden in color. The nose has the slightest bit of petrol on it. Also some wet rocks and slight tropical fruits. A bit sugary. On the palate, this is more elegant than powerful. Slightly viscous. Pineapple, minerals and slight candied citrus note. Worked well with an Indian Rice pudding (not sure the name of the dish). Enough acidity to bring it all together. No hurry, this is not showing much age at this point.

A visit to Joh. Jos. Prum (Weingut Joh. Jos. Prum. - Germany): i like the 07's for a bit early drinking relatively speaking. Light golden in color. The nose has diesel and fruit. Very elegant. On the palate minerals and some lemon comes out. Showing a nice complexity. Great texture. This is starting to show some layering but this wine is about elegance not power. No hurry but getting there and very nice now.

A Rieslingfeier of our Own; 2/13/2017-2/18/2017 (Traben-Trarbach, Germany): #34-08, 7.5% abv. Although this has the immense ripeness of the vintage on full display, there is never a moment when this is too sweet, heavy, or cloying. Although lower in acid too, the minerality here almost makes up for that deficiency. The extra spice elements on the nose also add some interest. A very drinkable and lovely Auslese.

Golden apple, floral and wonderful mineral notes on the nose. Above medium bodied, but carries its weight and sweetness with an almost effortless grace. Almost entirely orchard fruit through the middle (peach, apple pear) with excellent acidity throughout which blends into the more tart notes in the background. Finishes with a burst of floral and minerals which linger. Already fantastic, I get the sense this wine is only getting started. The sweetness is there, but it's so well balanced by the fruit and acidity and there's so much complexity through the middle - that's what really makes this wine special. Looking forward to trying this again in the coming years.

A Bunch of Great Burgs at St. Genevieve (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Light medium gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. I didn't take any notes on this last night, but fortunately there was a little bit left today to revisit. Wow, is this good. Bright fruit on the nose with a chiseled mineral note and bright white flowers and modest fusil. The palate has that silken texture with just a bit of oiliness and the fruit, well the fruit just rocks, great purity, pear, nectarine, apple, so tart and tangy to handle the sweetness, fusil, and brilliant minerality, long and luxurious. A classic JJP WSA! Man I'm glad there's more of these.

Killed before its time but still managed to blow my mind.
At first, just one-dimensional fruit, like a cheap Moscato. I immediately regretted opening this so soon. I thought I had committed a horrible crime of infanticide, putting an early lid on a long, promising career of petrolliness. Or maybe it was just hype. I finished my glass along with my soy sauce and ginger heavy stir fry (a good pairing, despite everything) and went to do other things.
But enter the magic of air time, and the effect it has on a character of the wine but on our perception of it (maybe the wine hasn't opened.. but I have). A couple of hours later I give it another shot and WOW... an explosion of peaches and cream, and just as the body has blown off, a long, crisp, acid, yet sweet finish of green apples. Every sip just keeps evolving, working up to a crescendo, and then fading, leaving an afterglow of faint sweetness. But the cream, the cream is just killing me! You feel it for the first two seconds after you swallow, and you want to hold it forever. A magical wine.

What a treat. This was served to non-wine lovers and they became hooked on it. As others have posted, what's not to like about this wine other than we can't push the clock ahead ten years to experience it then (then again, maybe not). Great balance between the fruit, the minerals, the acids, the sugars, and alcohol (what little there is). It's just another terrific example of Prüm's magic.

This was good but disappointing to my expectations. The nose is clean (no sulfur). The slightest bit of spritz left. Nice nose of pineapple and wet rocks. On the palate, this is is kind of flat. Lacks the acidity I am looking for. Not that sweet. It is ok (I think I got it on close out), but I want more. Perhaps it is in an awkward stage. I will wait a bit for the others I have.

Pale straw robe. Lovely bouquet of red apple, pineapple, apricot, honeysuckle, and petrol. These flavours also flooded the palate, which additionally offered some lemon curd and a light mineral undercarriage. There was some spritz on entry and a beautiful round mouthfeel. Good length and very well balanced. The most impressive feature here, however, is the purity; just so clean. An outstanding wine in the making.

NC Cindy Tasting, Rieslings, et al. (Chateau WineKnurd): No surprise that this is much lighter in color that the two Schloss Schönborns, given that it is a full 17 years younger. The nose on this wine is loaded with J.J. Prüm's signature petrol. No 3-in-1 oil here, this is gasoline all the way, but also with gorgeous white flowers and candied apples. The palate is light, sweet, and very complex for such a young Riesling, with honey, candied ginger, fresh and lively pineapple (no dried aspect here), and light, Golden Delicious apples. This wine doesn't cut your tongue with acid, but still shows a laser-like focus, with a precision that is hard to define. It is like liquid etched glass, delicate and rigid at the same time. I really like this wine and look forward to following the progress of my remaining stock. Make no mistake, though: I'm in no hurry. This wine is still very young. I wish I had a full case of it.

For young riesling, this was really nice. After slow airing out over one day, this had lost the sulfur, yet a bit of the petrol lingered, which was nice. Mixed with a bit of peach, pear and apples, the mineral element was nice. The palate wasn't disappointing. Similar notes to the bouquet with a nice creamy texture and decent acidity with a touch of citrus. Great long finish. Very sweet, glad I didn't pay the extra for the goldkapsul. This one rocked for 1/2 the price. The wine had the nice greenish yellow hue. If this was allowed to age, I'm sure this will be as good as the Markus Molitor

Brian's Housewarming (Moonbeam View): Once again, absolutely top-drawer stuff. This started out with some typical Prum sulphur on the nose that took a bit of time to tone down. Underneath that, there was a lovely melange of vanilla, green apples, peach, some meadow flowers. Good stuff, but as with the last bottle I had, it was really on the palate where this really shone. There was lovely purity here, ringing with pure green apple, lemon and stone fruit flavours that resounded through the mouth beautifully, filling every crevice with a gentle sense of fruitiness wapped in a lightly honeyed layer. There was a nice bit of minerality underneath that all as well which underscored the wine at the midpalate, along with a good bit of acidity running into a long finish. Once more, I was struck by how nicely balanced it was given the vintage. Pure, poised and perfectly elegant in typical Prum fashion, this went down ever so easily. This bottle was not quite as mindblowing as the last one I had - this was popped and poured after an hour or so, while the other bottle had been opened a week in advance and slowly given time to breathe. However, this was still clearly a top-notch wine. With time, it fanned out with some lovely white flower and sweet fruit notes that lingered away in the mouth. Excellent, and especially beautiful when paired with cold crab roe. Still a baby, I have no doubt will be an incredible wine when its time comes.

From a half bottle. Well, I opened one of these babies up just to get a sense of where they were sitting. The plan is to open it and leave it corked in the fridge for at least a day or two before trying it. At the same time, I'm going to be pouring small tastes to follow the evolution. Right after the pop: very pale yellow colour. Extremely sulphured nose, lots of fire and brimstone. Some faint notes of almonds, iodine, honeysuckle, and fuji apples. Quite some effervescence on the palate. Bursting with juicy yellow and white fruit, this is absolutely delicious already. Very fresh and tasty, with lots of balanced acidity. Wow, this can only get better tomorrow. Second day: a bit more honeyed on the nose, but none of the sulphur has yet dissipated. The palate has become far more expressive, with lots of green apple notes. Still unbelievably fresh and vibrant, it's really difficult to resist downing the whole thing at this point. Third day: the nose has yet to appreciably evolve, though a few candied notes have developed. Some of the sulphur has gone, leaving an aroma of a wet gravel bed. On the palate, this has gotten even more expressive, though a lot more of the malic acid/green apple notes are beginning to show through. It's still held in balance by the sugar, and the finish is crisp and refreshing and reminds me of Gerolsteiner. I've bumped the score up a tick from 18.5 to 19. This is just awesome stuff. One week on: no real signs of deterioration, and in fact, this is still getting better. Some notes of lychees and pears, as well as a hint of petrol still. The sulphur has mostly faded away. On the palate, this is still deliciously fresh, with lots of apple notes (both green and fuji). The finish is still long, and I wouldn't be surprised if this kept for another week.

BW/WE Annual Riesling Dinner (Golden Beach Seafood Restaurant, Changi Golf Club): Ridiculously good for such a young Auslese, and quite overwhelmingly voted the WOTN in spite of some very serious competition. This bottle was opened 11 days back and allowed to slowly breathe - probably the right thing to do given the way it showed. Even with all that aeration, there was still a whiff of young Prum sulphur on the nose. Underneath that though, there was a classic middle-Mosel bouquet of of white flower with a touch of herbs, green apples, white fruit and slatey mineral. Very classy stuff. I thought the palate was absolutely gorgeous. Again, classic flavours - green apples, grapefruit, a bit of lemon candy, a nice touch of mineral, but the wine just had such perfect definition and balance that it was almost crystallined. The way the flavours were inetgrated all the way into the super-focused, impressively long finish is imprinted on my memory. This is possibly the best balanced 2007 Riesling of any Pradikat level I have yet tried. I cannot quite describe it - it just had that supremely effortless elegance that the very best of Prum's bottlings have; and to achieve that in 2007, with all the weight of the fruit Pure magic! Still so very, very young - I can only imagine what a cracker of a wine this will be in another 20 years.

– popped and poured – – tasted non-blind over 2 days – – AP #: ... 16 08 –
NOSE: sweet; flowery; moderate sulphur; background hint of sweatsocks or leather mittens; light petrol; confectioner’s sugar; not complex right now. Day 2: sulphur has largely gone away.
BODY: some spritz; tan-yellow color of medium-light to medium depth; medium to medium-full bodied; from a leaky bottle.
TASTE: pear; white sugar; no botrytis; rather lightweight for an Auslese, and excellent acidity, too; comes across as simple right now; 7% alc.; full palate; doesn’t feel heavy, but it’s still a sipper. Day 2: same as yesterday, although a bit more limey today; very easy to drink, although the sugar still makes its presence known; good minerality on the rear palate. Too young to score, but given Prum’s reputation and what I taste here, I have no reason to believe this won’t be excellent 10+ years from now. Hold.

I really need to learn two lessons sooner or later: 1) Don't keep the babies in the fridge, it's too tempting to drink them, and 2) I say it every year, I need to drink more Riesling.
Nose of Peaches, honeysuckle, and lemon curd. Palate a gorgeous balance of candied pineapple, lime, wet stones, with a deft balance between the sweet and the laser sharp acidity. Paired with Spicy Thai food, so love how the palate alternates between the Thai fire, the sweet quench, and the citrus acidity that starts the mouth watering for a repeat of the cycle. I need to eat more Thai and drink more Riesling...

very nice clean golden almost clear liquid with sweet violet and spice on the nose. Sparkling pear mildly sweet with perfect balance of acid that leaves the pallate screamming for something to eat. As nice a young reisling as I have ever had.

Notes from day 2. Pale gold in color. Nose of petrol, funky zest, white flowers, a little bubble gum, On the palate there was lemon, honey, funky zest, and a little more of the bubble gum note in there as well. The finish was long, and nice mouthwatering acidity still noted that balances the weight. Really loved the funky petrol attack on the nose and to a lesser extent palate that day 1 showed. Looks like this will be a good long term investment. Let them sleep. Hold. 50+5+13+18+7

Still an infant of course, but this auslese has surprising delineation and good acidity with delicious fruit. This seems better than the wonderful 2005 at the same stage.

Amazing cut and clarity for such a baby Prum auslese. Impressive in its Riesling-ness, clarity and precision. Showed very well against the fine '05 version. Could the '07 vintage really be this good? I'll have to compare it against that other vintage of the century, 2001, some day.

The wine shows demiujm intensity in the nose, clear ripe pear, green apple, a few earthy notes, thin oak frame, preserved citrus, lemon, lemon leaves, blossom-like ethereal notes. Its just starting to lose its initial "grapey" coat
In the palate, the wine shows llight body, medium intensity, citrus, lemon pie notes, raw almond, beautiful balance of electrifying acidity and sweetness, with silky-like texture and the long finish that only Riesling can give you.

Very pale, dusty tangerine, pears, spicy and salty notes. Light bodied, sweet but extremely well balanced with excellent acidity, ripe pears and peaches, excellent length. For the first-timer, this is an unexpectedly light, elegant, complex, balanced and not over sweet Auslese.

Some different wines with friends (Sharon and Sashi's): In a good place although youthful. Light gold in color. The nose has lemon peel, minerals and slight petrol notes. No sulfur left on this. Slightly sweet and in fact, I liked that it was not as sweet as expected. Nice citrus fruit. Great full texture. Long finish. I would prefer a bit more acidity.
