Surprisingly quality given the vintage. I found this just a touch behind the superb 06 in terms of quality and ahead of the 04/08. 2009 & 2010 ruled the bunch in a 2004-2013 vertical

Condrieus and Côte-Rôties of North London (Must & Lees): Served fully blind. Who knows if that's why, but although a very good wine it didn't wow like a bottle from the same vintage did a couple of years ago. Lots of olive brine and other savoury notes on nicely evolved, smoothly integrated nose. Both red and dark fruit on the palate, which had a sleek texture, some savoury elements and good length. The group voted this the #3 red tonight.

Condrieu and Cote Rotie; 9/28/2023-10/28/2023 (Must and Lees, N1): Incredible nose. Olive and meat, really beautiful. Still quite a lively bottle despite the age, and this kind of elegance is only achievable by the best wine-makers. Really great, however the QPR ship sailed quite a few years ago and I missed it....

Condrieu and Cote Rotie (Must & Lees, N1): A spicy, slightly woody nose with Bovril, green chilli and dark fruit. Really clean on the palate with inner richness and quite incredible length.

Drank alongside the 2007 Clape Cornas. This is quite floral and red fruited compared to the darker fruited Clape. Quite an elegant wine that's both approachable and also structured with fine tannin and youthful enough to age for many years.

A nice dinner with friends: My first Jamet, bought recently at an auction. Opened 30 minutes before serving. Nose dominated by a smell of smoke. The palate was much more complex with olive among others. Long finish. It was delicious to drink and I will try to complete my collection as the prices of recent vintages are still relatively reasonable for this quality.

Pink/orangey rim, dark ruby center. Youthful and concentrated. Olive, pepper. sweaty saddle, blood orange and grape fruit. Very long finish. Only demerit was the texture, which could have been more smooth or silky.

Super tasty and ready to go. Tobacco on the nose and front of the palate, round fruit with a good acidic backbone. Will evolve but nice to get the fruit while it’s so primary.

Drinking very well indeed. Very classic indeed, accents on the olives, smoked meat, black fruit. Certainly on the younger side, but hard to resist. #Ib&Pia#Kandestederne

Quite nice and fragrant nose that definitely leans very much towards the darker fruit notes. Dark olives, dark cherries, savory notes, and meaty flavors on the palate. Good acidity and nice finish. The palate feels quite a bit more backwards than the nose, but overall it's really delicious. Was expecting this to show much riper. Should be better even in 5 years. 94+

3/6. Medium/deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows blackberry fruit, black pepper, bacon - aromatic. Medium bodied, dark fruit, black pepper, black olive, flavoursome, fine tannins, quite fine-boned, touch of bacon but with a juicy fruit core, vibrant acidity, lightly drying good length finish. Excellent.

A wine that is sitting at its top likely. Floral with violets, spices, blackberries and olive tapenade. Very long aftertaste. Had some tertiary notes that just added another level to the enjoyement. Lovely !

This was delightful tonight with lots of deep, penetrating, dark cassis fruit, some herbaceous, brambly notes and perhaps some very subtle violet undertones. The tannins on the longish finish are ripe and very well integrated. To my tastes this is fully mature and in its perfect drinking window, right on the edge of the stewed fruit notes coming to the forefront, which I don’t prefer. Quite nice!

Classic. Tight upon opening(no decant). Darker fruit, olive, and licorice. Day 2 shows more red fruit, florals, and spice. Will drink well and gain more elegance through the decade.

Jamet Day (Ada St.): Next to the 08 this was obviously richer and deeper with more intensity of meaty black fruit and pronounced olive. Palate has great richness, density, and concentration. Deeply flavored but complexity is not yet fully on display -- close to a peak window. Upside from here.

Jamet Day (Chicago, IL): A very befuddling bottle, even though it wasn't bad or off. There's a distinct greenness in the form of pyrazines on the nose and palate here. The intense herbal character is pretty surprising here. It's a bit pedestrian on the palate, but there is a little more weight and fruit than the wispy 2008. It's really the green notes here that confuse me. I'd love to try another bottle of this to see if my experience would be consistent, but it's not so compelling that I want to seek that second bottle out myself.

Blind: guessed northern Rhone syrah. Fired out Jamet for giggles.
Super bottle with all the classic markers of dark fruit, dry brush and a foundation of charcoal. Probably won't get better with more bottle time but quite the treat this evening.

I got a few tastes of this, some of them were blind tastes before the wine was revealed. This reminded me of Syrah, with a blue fruited quality, along with charcoal and garrigue. This seems to be drinking well, in a good place. Was my WOTN too.

Incredible nose of iron, iodine, burnt soil. This is very ’Brune’ in nature, very much on iron notes, blood, burnt soil, cool, dark fruit. Captivating, expressive Côte-Rôtie, STGT wine.

My bottle did not show as well as recent TNs. PnP for an impression, then decanted and enjoyed from the 2-4 hour mark. Finished the last 1/3 of the bottle on night 2. It showed very slight evolution and improvement over this period; the best showing was at the 4 hour mark on night 1.
Very enjoyable complexity on the nose. First whiff on the nose is dusty wood. With a swirl, it becomes floral with pipe smoke, black olive, iron, and after more air, mint chocolate chip (!?) and cigar box.
On the palate its texture is very fine. Notes are more secondary and there is more of that iron and mineral. Some bacon fat on the finish.

Winter is coming... (67 Pall Mall): Not all showy, but quietly assertive, with that lovely combination of lightness of touch and depth of flavour (blackberries, game and the occasional hint of pepper.) For me the stand-out characteristic was the wonderfully integrated acidity, which was reminiscent of Sangiovese and just so refreshing.

Utterly stunning. The nose is so complex. Violets. Perfume. Meat. Game. Blood. Barnyard. Cigars. Blackcurrants. Everything you would wish for in a Northern Rhone. But whilst the nose has the complexity of a 20-30 year old wine, this palate is fresh and vibrant. Spiky acidity, solid tannins, and a long finish. Make no mistake, this is a top, top wine. From SW

A multi-faceted wine that keeps on transforming itself, chameleon-like. An initial enthralling throwback whiff of stale 1970s ashtray, and, at different times, hints of cigar box and piped tobacco; olives, tapenade, Mediterranean scents; iron and minerals; bacon fat, celery, and savoury mid palate aromas; game and hung meat; youthful, tensile, a tad spikey; untamed walk-on-the-wild-side; fine, bracing acidic line; lithe, deft and an exquisite finish. So vigorous and juicy with lively acidity it will mellow with age but I suspect now is the perfect time to drink this.

Drinking quite well now, but will surely hold and possibly improve for 5-10 years nore. Fresh black fruits, hints of bacon, iron and tomato. Good acidity holding things together. Fine grained tannins that stay in the background. Great wine, the effortlessly dances in it´s own glory.

Superb nose, massive projection of black olive and smoked meat. Dense and lush black fruit too. Really impressive. Not briney, more smoky and meaty with a signature sort of ceramic / acrylic. Highly floral, peppery, some coffee detail. Palate is lush and full, still super youthful. Muscular but silky. Perfumed but still a little gritty. Textured with brambly fruit. Distinct and nuanced Jamet. Haven’t had a a proper wine in a while and this is showing so full and complete and wonderful. Very impressed and very happy.

The New Traditional December 22 Tasting (Anders place): Eight years older than the first Jamet and it is a reminder that you better store Jamet for some years. More complex and delicate. Still quite primary. Blueberry, violets, menthol, leather, roasted meat. Very long. Intense and lightweight at the same time. Great balance with excellent acidity, ripe tannins, and dark fruit. Braxton Cellars Cellar Raid (Libertyville, IL): Really enjoyed this Jamet. Pretty red flowers, supple red fruit. Fresh nose of blood orange and cranberry. Awesome nose I couldn't stop taking in. Restraint and feminine styling as a whole. Meaty and lovely palate but less pronounced than the nose. Very nice acidity and still some well integrated structure showing on the back end. Would love to be able to revisit this in 5-7 years.

1/6, vg cork, decanted 1/2 hr. Deep garnet core, slight tough of mahogany, pale garnet rim. Nose is floral, gently spicy, underlying red fruit with bacon emerging as it warms slightly in glass. Beautiful nose right upon opening, very complex fruit profile with both reds and blacks, suave and a very classy bacon touch. Palate is at the same level, impeccable balance, weight but classy and refined, great length. A lot is happening there and the sensations are constantly changing. A wine with a great personality and delivering huge amount of pleasure.

A really seductive nose, in the beginning clearly characterized by flavors of smoked meat and blood, but also with beautiful blackberries, dark plums, red flowers, olives, licorice and some sweet spices. With air the fruit is getting more in the driver's seat. Very concentrated, yet incredibly elegant and velvety. Great balance and very long aftertaste. Fine-grained tannins, but they are still noticeably present. Still quite primary, and probably a lot of upside here for the patient ones. Although this was beautiful now, I think this will be even better with added compexity with 5 more years of cellaring. And it will last another 20.

Blind Syrahs at Chevalier (Chicago, IL): Served blind along side a blind '14 Jamet. A wow nose of smoked meat for days, then bacon for days, then black pepper for days, all interwoven with savory black fruit. the palate is delicious already with rich black fruit and juicy acids. Open and in a way voluptuous and needed 30 minutes of standing in the bottle to balance out across the different notes. Dark and inky but not dense. The nose is full of a smoky bacon/roast meat and a feel of that iron (or blood) that north Rhone syrah delivers. The spice and dark fruits are there too but second fiddle to the smoky side. Quite intense on the flavor at this stage and the wine has a good 10-15yrs of good drinking life with lots of evolution. Very happy to have crossed paths with it now but we will hide our other bottle for a good 5 years and revisit it with a hopefully more evolved side. 93 for now. This is a wine which could breach the gap if one has lovers of Shiraz and Syrah on the same table.

Wow, every time, what a glass of wine. Big perfume of dense currant and black and blue fruits above savoury smoked meats and scorched earth. Interesting indian spice hanging around too. At this age its in a place where you want to leave it to gain even more complexity and nuance but it is just too pleasurable not to open and drink up.

Big brooding nose of smouldering campfire, barbecue smoke pit, cracked black pepper, green bell peppers, and intense currants. Meaty, rare roast beef on the palate with ripe black currant. A touch hot with some glycerine at the moment but already drinking beautifully with tannins totally in check. Was amazed to find this at a local wine shop on a visit home to the Socialist Republic of British Columbia and at $CAD 130 may have to go back for the rest of the case. Awesome wine and really enjoyable right now.

Dark purple. Nose of bloody grilled beef, blackberry, and garrigue. In the mouth this is both savory and sweet, beefy and fruity, the whole package, nicely balanced. The long finish of savory spice stains the palate. Drink over the midterm.

Showed great at first but we made the mistake to decant it, thinking air would help it show more as it was quite tight. Sadly it tightened up even more and was totally closed down by the end. Advice: right now, stick to pop and pour.

Ripe, smooth and supple. Blackberry, smoke, grilled bloody meat and licorice. Attractive smooth texture and very easy to drink though not the most complex or interesting vintage for Jamet. Burgers and wines @ home (Milford, CT): Red wine of the night. This enigmatically had a savage, rustic, untamed character to it, but still refined and svelte. Layers of savory notes, with game, herbs, leather and spice. So complete on the palate, with nothing out of place. The structure is accessible but still has room for further evolution. The first bottle of the night to be emptied.

Burgers and wine at Marco's (Milford, CT): Phenomenal Côte-Rôtie - Jamet delivers yet again. A little tight at first, but this really opened out with some time in the decanter. A stunning fragrance that builds with air, combining bright Syrah fruit with deeper, more savoury earthy and meaty elements, and higher toned floral, herbal, stemmy and spicy notes. The tannin is very fine grained, and it feels incredibly polished and graceful on the palate with a lightness of touch that makes it very easy to drink, and impressive length.

PnP, took 30 or so mins to warm up and pass over the early green stage of primary notes. Once out, there was plenty of blueberry, raspberry, loads of white pepper, very mushroom earthy. The palate is much the same, with a gorgeous white pepper finish.

Guigal Château d'Ampuis - complete vertical tasting of 1995-2009 (Stockholm): Medium red, rather compact colur. Nose with strong green notes of stalks, grass and green pepper, cherries, some flowers; elegant. Palate with blackberries, blueberries, fine acidity, medium tannins, aftertaste with tart berries and mineral. Good balance, can take more cellaring, 90+ p.
Included as a pirate wine in a flight with Guigal wines, this definitely stood out with its strong green and herbaceous notes, and was easy to spot as a non-Guigal.

Decanted and drank some over 4 or 5 hours, rebottled and recorked overnight. TN is on the wine the next morning. Labeled at 13% ABV
Deep red. Hints of flowers, vanilla cream under plums, garrigue, cherry, bloody meat, bacon fat, dust. A bit of pepper in the palate with plums, cherry, meat, crushed rocks, orange peel. Nice pop of acid at the end. Very fine tannins. Very good bottle, with many elements that I really enjoy, but it leaves me wanting something more...
Leave it alone for a while, or give it a longer decant.

Tasted blind. After a sniff of 2 seconds I was ready shout this being a Northern Rhone Syrah, so typical of origin it is. Made in a classic style, that I very much prefer(not a fan of Guigal or Colombo). Nose is charming and stylish, showing mostly dark berries and cherries with black pepper. Also a bit smoky and earthy. Somebody had commented below this being "coffee", and "too oaky", I find it hard to believe he was drinking the same wine. This is actually quite refreshing and very drinkable already, and will age well too. An absolute classic and highly recommendable!

Drinks with Mark Bright (Saison, San Francisco): So young, but surprisingly drinkable and very good indeed. I really like Jamet's classic stylings. Unusually though, this wine had a very expressive nose even at this stage, with plum aromas and violet scents streaked with little notes of earth and spice and garrigue, with just a touch of sweet winter melon at the edges. Very attractive. The palate was still really primary, with lovely flavours of black cherries and blueberries and plums at the fore, and more violet nuances at the rear. However, true to house style, this was never about full-on fruit. In fact, it did not quite have the strength and oomph of greater vintages, yet it was perfectly poised and beautifully balance in its mid-bodied feel, with fine acid lifting and sculpting the wine in delicious fashion. Little dusty earth and mineral notes that emerged past the midpalate and towards the fine finish also added character and interest. A really nice wine, and surprisingly easy-drinking for a young Jamet. Nevertheless, this really does deserve time to flesh up and fan out. Give it 5 years at least, though this probably has the staying power to grow far longer than that.

A very nice nose. Delicate and balanced with some depth. Blackberries, violets, integrated oak hints, herbs, nuts and almost perfume-like. Warm impression. More than one dimension. Well-structured palate with good grip and refreshing acidity. Medium tannins quite harmonius. Very attractive combination of white pepper, tobacco, some gravelly smoke and violets. Dark fruit and simultaneosly warm. Elegant violets added. Seemed Classic and very Cote Rotie to us. In good drinking phase already and damned tasty. The winner in our small Rhone tasting.

From half bottle. Decanted and served. Very little sediment. We always decant but not a must in this case. Cardamon, spice box on the nose. Balanced spice though, well woound with good fruit. On the palate it is smooth and although vibrant the tannins are silky. Nice palate presence and length. Drinks nicely now but has stuffing to last for sure. Solid 92.

Bought in Kuala Lumpur (amazingly) and drunk the same day with Raymond. A surprisingly open Jamet. Quite rich, lacking the astringency which often marks younger Jamets. At its best after 3 hours in the decanter by which time it is more Cote Rotie and less syrah. Extremely good. I will buy the rest of the case tomorrow.

Double decanted for three hours, served at room temperature. Color: Medium to Dark Red with Purple rim. Nose: Black Cherry, Black Pepper, Black Currant, Tobacco, Green Pepper. Palate: see nose. Finish: Medium to Long. Tannins: Medium. Alcohol: 13 % well integrated. Medium bodied mouthfeel with initial attack of dark fruit. Mid-palate transition includes black pepper and finish is quite long with underlying green pepper and tobacco. My first Côte-Rotie and I'd say this is surprisingly modern style of Syrah, of course without the overextracted fruit and jammy qualities. Acidity is higher as well. Probably needs more time for second tier flavors to surface. 90-91 points.

Conclusion : Wow!

Bobby Kacher Tasting and Dinner (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Superb spice on nose, showing black pepper, green bell pepper, with some anise just behind lots of black cherry and cherry liqueur. This has some really exciting smoky, earthy textural components that kept getting more and more interesting in the glass. Not everybody liked this as much as I did, not surprising since this isn't a lush modern Cote-Rotie, but a real traditional, classically styled wine that will age beautifully.

Rhone Tasting with a focus on Jamet Cote Rotie (Clifton, Cape Town): An initial pong blew off to reveal an intriguing mix of dried earth, pottery clay, olive tapenade, roasted herbs and stems. A strident acid on entry accented by the stems gives a crunchy, crisp freshness. The funky notes returned, yet underneath, there were gobs of fruit, almost carbonic maceration, certainly ripe and no green elements anywhere. The finish is long with juicy nettles sap and firm tannins. Certainly different!

Wonderfully made wine. Fruit is front and center on display and the presentation of the wine is admirable. Nothing to hide behind and no tricks played with this syrah. Delicate and elegant quality of the fruit was beautifully balanced against a terrific streak of bright acid. Tannins were present, integrated and not at all obstructing the entirely too early in life enjoyment of the wine. An honest example of fruit. My only comment would be that, while I take my hat off to the wine making, I felt the raw materials were average. Yes it is very nice syrah from Cote Rotie but it the syrah wasn't anything out of the ordinary for fruit from that part of the world. It is good and by most standards of syrah from other areas I find it to be great. No over ripeness. No over-the-top alcohol levels. Excellent preservation of acidity. But no real sense that this fruit was individual and unique. Put in the hands of another wine maker it might not turn out as delightful as Jamet has made it. My criticism probably comes from a bit of frustration for having to pay nearly $100 for a bottle in store or $70 wholesale of well excellently crafted wine from average Cote Rotie fruit.
I would be quick to pay $100 a bottle if Jamet had his hands on fruit from a single parcel...Cote Brune...unfortunate it is such a difficult one to track down.
The wine drinks perfectly well now but the patient will be paid huge dividends if they give the wine 10 - 15 years and let it develop all of those wonderful layers of reduction.

Medium/deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows blackberry fruit, black pepper, bacon - aromatic. Medium bodied, dark fruit, black pepper, black olive, flavoursome, fine tannins, quite fine-boned, touch of bacon but with a juicy fruit core, vibrant acidity, lightly drying good length finish. Excellent.

Quite nice!

(67 Pall Mall): Not all showy, but quietly assertive, with that lovely combination of lightness of touch and depth of flavour (blackberries, game and the occasional hint of pepper.) A multi-faceted wine that keeps on transforming itself, chameleon-like.

Burned rubber, smoked ham, coffee, plums and raspberries. Too oaky? (Short notes from tasting event in Malmö)

Spicy floral smells mix it up with ripe blood plum and blackberry fruits. It has plenty of generosity on the palate and the has just a little oak derived astringency.

91 pts

Very young, yet smooth and Burgundian. Will live on, of course, but the vintage allows early drinking. 92+
