Brick red. Aromas of blackcurrant, cigar, pencil shaving, leather, autumn leaf and cinnamon. Medium deep. Delicate chewy tannins. Blackcurrant acids and coffee bitterness. Palate of plum, tobacco, stable, cassis, roasted almond and provencal herbs. A mature, utterly complex, beautiful and typical Medoc with elegant ripe fruit, perfectly balanced acidity and long spicy and herbal finish. Drink within 10-15 years. Tasted 2024. Tasted alongside Ch Leoville Barton 1982 and the matched wine was powerful with livelier acidity but not as elegant as the present wine.

Vintage is so important. This 1982 shined at a Partager tasting at our Commanderie De Bordeaux tasting. Mature, yet fruitful and smooth. A wine worth savoring. Will drink well for several more years if properly cellared.
I have never tasted this before so I was an amazed by its vigor and quality. Very concentrated, very intense and long, very lively. Not extremely complex but the beauty of the red/black berry fruit wins you over.

My last bottle of this, and by far the best, this was outstanding. This was splash decanted, and immediately stoppered to prevent aeration. Fully tertiary, this was text book mature top echelon Bordeaux, with a nose packed with old leather, plum and cedar with hints of orange peel. The palate was seamless and liquid velvet in the mouth. The palate, likewise, is silky smooth, and perfectly balanced. If it had been longer, I would have rated this another point higher. A word of caution; I do think that this is hitting the end of its peak, and does not have the structure for extended aging. 96+
