  • 1998... Ah, love an aged Bordeaux. Aug heat stress and end Sept rains made it a tough vintage for Cabs.

This is a 55% Cab, 35% Merlot, 8% CF and 2% PV blend.

Some faded blackfruit overtaken by leather, earth, truffles and some smoke too.

Acid M+, Med finish. Felt this was lacking somewhat, I have to say I expected more. Perhaps it was just the provenance of this particular bottle, with a little more tertiary development and aging then expected.

My bottle shared with the lads on our 1st and 2nd growth theme night at Cassis.. welcome home again TC!

  • Dense, tight and young! Blackish colour, gorgeous nose of sweet, spicy, herby black fruits, a hint of leather! A bold palate, showcasing those rich, spicy black fruits, very charming and a lengthy finish! Not fully mature yet, however, needs time to develop!

  • Delicious old left bank aromas with blackcurrant, leather and graphite. Smooth and elegant on the palate, and fully mature.

  • Coravin fun - St Estephe and randoms (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Oh yum yum Bordeaux nose; tertiary notes of leather, earth, Autumn leaves join sweet spice, brambles, toasted notes on the nose. Juicy, tertiary and primary flavours vie for attention on the palate; savoury but still fruity, talc textured tannins. Lovely

  • Beginning our tasting with the 1998 Château Calon-Ségur, we had high hopes considering how well the 1998 Château Léoville Barton showed just last week. Immediately greeted by a highly aromatic nose, notes of leather and tobacco were evident. With a lot of fruit intact on the palette, the blackcurrant lasted for two of the three glasses we had, accompanied by pronounced smoke and cedar before licorice came in during the finish. An extremely elegant wine that showed the class of the château for the duration of the bottle.
