JD and Glen tasting - aged red, bricking very evident. Reddish with brick tone. Nose is leather, hints of fruit and mustiness, still ok fresh. Opens with a blast of acidity, quite red, tastes very closed and showing its age, very asleep. Not particularly good on opening, but with some air this improves markedly. Age blows off, the acidity drops and decent fruit appears, tannins are very finely laced across the fruit and this becomes pretty good. In fact better than pretty good, it’s very enjoyable. Not as good as previous tastings of the 82, but high quality and the decades fall away.

Top shoulder fill but cork slightly sunk in. Black mold on the cork and a moldy whiff upon opening the bottle made me think this would go down the drain. However the moldy notes blow away with about 30 minutes of air in the open bottle. Good translucent garnet in the glass with little browning. plenty of cedar and some leather and tobacco joining the fruit , fully resolved tannins, short finish. Nice, given the age but not a great 78 Bdx.

Some earthy development on the nose along with briary fruits, sweet tobacco and cedar. It is full in the mouth, with a sweet, vinous core that has a creamy feel. Tannins have all but melted away but the wine has an excellent line of fresh, minerally acidity. It is a mid-weight Bordeaux of good balance and proportion, drinking at the top of its game.
