While I have found the 1961 Lafite a relative disappointment when measured against the stature of the vintage, when assessed by the same metric the 1960 Lafite is a pleasant surprise. A complex bouquet of pencil shavings, red-black fruit and rich soil introduces a medium-bodied, elegant wine with melted tannins, good but not shrill acidity and decent depth and length. Very enjoyable, and I imagine well-stored bottles like this will hold for another handful of years.

Wanted to give this bottle a 100 for just hanging in there. This was a split and unspoiled. Light garnet color. No flaws. No sediment. Lots of rim variation. Old world, earthy nose. No fruit aroma. No tannin. Low alcohol. Amazingly sweet taste, but only with first glass. Second glass lost the sweetness and tasted bland. Short finish. Just amazed it was still drinkable.

Rated this high mostly for the experience. Again the classic light red from Lafite. Musky and full of dirt, leather and dry as a sock. Exceptionally low alcohol, but still 'refreshing'.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasting. Surprisingly there was still a bit of red fruit, although this was dominated by forest floor and cedar aromatics. Bit of sweetness perhaps propped the wine up a bit, this was certainly interesting if not exciting.
