Tasted with NMMNORI. Don’t entirely agree with his assessment. Relatively little fruit remaining, but drinks like it should at 40. Sous bois and tea (Nori is correct from time to time), with the ethereal, intense je ne sais quoi native to this wine and only a handful of others. An absolute delight - the last sip far better than the first.
Tasted in Brooklyn with DJCV; an ex-Jim bottle. The wine was mostly secondary with very little fruit in tact. Tea and sous bois. Not unenjoyable, but rather long in the tooth.

Magnum 000419/13158. Purple ruby with some orange color. Dusty, misty, smoky aroma with green stems, dries rose, purple fruits, purple flower, little bit leather, red bean like oak, mushroom. high acidity. integrated strong tannin.
Next day morning, it has lots of sediment, even darker color. more animal, leather, forest, little bit dried flower and purple. It's more sweeter than last night. Body became heavier.
It doesn't have much Hoisin and ocean flavor like other La tache I had before.

Magnum 000419/13158, served out of glass. Smoky, red fruit, hawthorn, high acidity, soil, very characteristic to the vintage. On the palate it became gradually sweeter, very resolved with good spiciness. 93-94

From magnum. From the second the first pour hit the glass it was obvious this was a home run bottle. Classic DRC Asian spices, red fruits, minerality and that sensual velvet that comes with DRC and especially La Tache. Still so much detail to this wine. On the palate the texture was soft, silky and very pleasing. This wine is well integrated at this point with no rough edges. Becoming more feminine yet retaining plenty of power. Awesome bottle.

(Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche) Light medium brown color with ruby lights and clear meniscus; rich spice box, cigar and mushroom nose; tart cigar box, mushroom and dried cherry palate; medium finish 92+ pts.
(DRC La Tache) A little reticent upon being poured. Nice candied cherry fruit. Soon layer upon layer of aromas start to develop. Earth, huge cherry/raspberry, woodsmoke, soy, bbq sauce, well water. Etheral nose. So Vosne. So La Tache. Beautiful concentration and sweet fruit. Very ripe tannins and lively acidity. Gorgeous ripe red fruits. The tannins seem a little gruff and they might not resolve but this is a beauty right now. It is amazing how distinctive La Tache is from other wines in Vosne. I have had the '01 and the '00 and after around 45 minutes in the glass the '83 had those same aromatic characteristics but in a more mature way. A great wine. Actually a profound wine.
